Missing woman found safe in Lawrence
A 71-year-old Hays native who went missing from Kansas City on Monday was found early Wednesday morning in Lawrence.

Kansas City police have reported Cora Lee Pfannenstiel was found by Lawrence police at about 12:30 a.m. inside an International House of Pancakes restaurant and later reunited with family.

A KCPD spokesperson said this morning she appeared to be alone and in good health.

Pfannenstiel disappeared Monday after leaving for a bank located about a mile from her home.

During the search, family members told investigators she might be suffering from the early stages of Alzheimer's and could have appeared confused.

Pfannenstiel moved to Kansas City about one year ago, her son Matt, Hays, said Tuesday, and had been living there with another son.

From what he had been told, Matt said his mother left to run an errand around 2 p.m. Monday. His brother, who Matt said is the only other member of his immediate family living in Kansas City, also had plans to be away from home that afternoon.

Pfannenstiel's absence was reported about four hours later.

Despite the suspicion of Alzheimer's, Matt said his mother does not have a history of being gone for long periods of time without telling anyone.

She seemed "upbeat and coherent," he said, when he called her last month to wish her a happy Mother's Day.

Still emotionally tense, Matt said this morning he was thankful for the relatively quick resolution to the case.

"It could have been a lot worse," he said.
