Timmonsville family pleads for information about missing man
Published: June 3, 2009
TIMMONSVILLE — The family of a missing Timmonsville man said they’re becoming increasingly concerned about his welfare.
Thirty-three-year-old Recarlo Demaine Dukes was last seen May 26 when he left work at Ruby Tuesday at U.S. 52 and Interstate 95 in Florence.
He hasn’t been seen or heard from since that night.
Family members said Dukes last spoke with fellow employees at the restaurant that night. Those employees said Dukes told them he was leaving the restaurant and heading home.
Dukes’ mother, Barbara Ann Dukes Jones, said she spoke with her son the afternoon of May 26. He also told her he would soon be heading home.
“The last time he called me, he called me at 2:52 (p.m.) and he told me he said, “Momma, I’m finishing up at work, I’m gonna get everything straight and I’m on my way home ... and he never came home,” she said.
Jones said she found it very difficult to cope as the days passed, not only because her son was missing, but also because she couldn’t understand why anything might have happened to him.
“He’s just the sweetest person you’d ever want to meet. He’d do anything for you,” she said. “He never bothers anybody. He’s always helpful.”
Dukes’ family members said he has never gone missing on any occasions before, and it’s very out of character for him to let any days pass by without a phone call to check in.
“Whatever is wrong, if he’s out there, I want him to just come home, you know, if he’s able to ... I want him to come home,” Jones said.
Now Jones is turning to the only thing she feels she has left at this point: the chance that someone, somewhere knows something about what happened to her son.
“If someone knows something, I would wish they would tell somebody because this hurts too much,” she said. “It is the cruelest thing anybody can do if they know and don’t try to help.”
Jones said she’s pleading with the public for any information that might bring her son home and bring her family’s nightmare to an end.
Dukes is described as a black man about 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighing about 180 pounds. He was last seen driving a Green 1997 Ford Taurus with S.C. license tag 651-7BJ
Anyone with information on Dukes’ whereabouts is asked to call the sheriff’s office at (843) 665-2121 or the state Crime Stoppers hotline at (888) CRIME SC (274-6372). Callers need not reveal their identities.
