3 Pedestrian Deaths Ruled Murder-Suicide

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - A woman with a history of mental illness purposely walked her young niece and nephew into oncoming interstate traffic to commit a double-murder suicide, a prosecutor said Friday.

Marcelle Thibault, 39, was driving south on Interstate 495 in Lowell last week when she turned the car sharply, drove across the median and northbound lanes and began driving against traffic in the breakdown lane, authorities said.

BOSTON - A woman who killed herself and her sister's two small children by walking into oncoming interstate traffic had a minor car accident and State Police cited her just hours before the double murder-suicide.

Marcelle "Marci" Thibault, 39, showed no signs of impairment when three State Police troopers arrived to the scene of the accident — the same highway where she would later die — around 6:50 p.m. on Jan. 11, State Police Capt. Barry O'Brien told The Associated Press on Friday.

What a horrible tragedy for this entire family.

I can't imagine how the parents are coping with this. These were their only children, she the twin to Marci. How incredibly sad and tragic!

My mother who lives in the Boston area told me about this last week, at the time she said it was the womans' children...just seems worse that it wasn't.

Very sad, of course my mother was very surprised about the story. But, a similiar thing happened on a highway, near where I live a few years ago, at night a father stepped into highway traffic with his son ( I believe it was a boy) and they both were struck and killed. It was deemed also a murder/suicide. Just awful.

Somehow this method of murder/suicide seems worse. These adults are involving innocent drivers in their death. How are the individuals behind the cars supposed to deal with this? This is just sick.
