Deputies Dig On Property Of Haleigh's Mom
5-Year-Old Haleigh Cummings Disappeared In February
UPDATED: 12:30 pm EDT June 26, 2009
GLEN ST. MARY, Fla. -- Investigators with the Putnam County Sheriff's Office and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement were searching property around the Baker County home of the mother of a 5-year-old girl missing since February.
Haleigh Cummings disappeared from her father's home in Putnam County on Feb. 10 and an Amber Alert was issued. More than 4,000 tips have come in, but there have been no confirmed sightings.
Haleigh's parents were never married and have lived apart for several years.
Putnam County officials said a tip prompted several law enforcement agencies to mount a search of the property where Crystal Sheffield lives with her grandmother. Channel 4 confirmed that investigators are digging on the property, cadaver dogs are on site and a pond is being searched by diver.
Investigators told Channel 4 that the family recently said some horses were buried on the 30-acre property Sheffield shares with her mother a couple of months ago. Investigators said they have already uncovered one dead horse and they have no expectation that Haleigh's body is there but they are conducting a search out of "due diligence."
A Jacksonville Sheriff's Office dive team and Baker County deputies were assisting in the search.
Earlier this month, several agencies involved in the investigation met to review evidence and found some leads still needed to be followed and some evidence needed to be analyzed.
Sheffield recently closed an information center she had maintained near the home where Haleigh disappeared, saying she needed to stay closer to her Baker County home for medical reasons.

<Snipped>
Haleigh's grandmother, Marie Griffis, is back on her school bus route and tends to their farm in Glen St. Mary.
It's a hundred miles away from where Haleigh disappeared from her father's Putnam County home in February.
Griffis said, "There's not a waking moment that we're not wondering where is Haleigh and who has her. It's awful. It's just awful."
On the edge of the Griffis property is a large sign with Haleigh's picture on it, asking if you've seen her.

Dive Team Searching Haleigh Cummings' Grandmother's Property
Created: 6/26/2009 11:32:18 AM Updated: 6/26/2009 12:31:53 PM
GLEN ST. MARY, FL -- Search teams and divers are actively investigating an area on property belonging to Haleigh Cummings' maternal grandmother.
About 40 investigators, including the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office dive team and cadaver dogs, are searching a small pond on Marie Griffis' 30-acre property in Baker County and digging up several areas with a bulldozer.
They're also looking under trailers and videotaping several areas.
Police tell First Coast News that during recent conversations with family members, they learned the family has many animals buried on the property, including horses and goats.
Investigators say they are just being thorough, and that they would be remiss if they didn't check the burials to confirm they are animals.
They stress they have no reason to doubt the family's claim that only animals are buried there, but feel they need to be thorough.
This area was checked already, but it was during the first week of the investigation, and it wasn't a very thorough search at that time, according to investigators.
Haleigh's mother, Crystal Sheffield, also lives on that property in Baker County.
This is the first major search effort since police gathered all the search teams together to redefine their focus in the search for Haleigh.

I hate to think they're going through all this and expending all this manpower because someone wanted to cause trouble for the grandparents rather than having any REAL knowledge about Haleigh.
This seems really unlikely, but I guess stranger things have happened.

I called Crystal Sheffield’s attorney Kim Picazio for a statement. Picazio would only say that search was conducted at the request of Crystal’s family members.
WSKY has confirmed that investigators are digging on the property, cadaver dogs are on site and a pond is being searched by diver.
So far, the only thing searches have uncovered is the decomposing body of a dead horse.

Search for Haleigh: Family's property searched
Last Update: 2:52 pm
BAKER CO., Fla. – As investigators continue to search for Haleigh Cummings, they’ve turned their attention to the property belonging to her maternal grandparents.
The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office wants to stress that the search was not prompted by tips. Captain Dominic Piscotello tells Action News the Griffis family told detectives when Haleigh first disappeared that they’d buried animal bones on the property in Glen St. Mary. Investigators wanted to verify those claims. So far, they’ve verified that all of the bones they’ve examined belong to animals.
Action News spoke to Crystal Sheffield and Marie Griffis, Haleigh’s mother and grandmother. They say they welcome the search and they’re glad to have the investigators on the property, so they can be excluded. Sheffield and Griffis also say they’re helping investigators and answering their questions.
Forensic investigators, a dive team from the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, and deputies from Baker and Putnam Counties are all on the scene. They’ve checked out all structures there, as well as a pond.
This isn’t the first time they’ve examined the 15-20 acre property. Investigators also searched it the day Haleigh disappeared. They searched inside the family’s home, as well as underneath it.
After they’re done with this property, search teams will head a few miles up the road, to another piece of property that’s also owned by the Griffis family.

Hello everyone,
I sure don't know what to think of this search. I'm relieved to hear from LE that the search isn't based on a tip....in IMO the outlook would seem more grim if a tip had been credible enough for the expenditure of manpower and money.
Once again though....why have they waited so long to do this search if the only reason is to be sure the animal bones are the only thing that was buried on the property. Why not from the get go? Frankly now I'm more confused...the last word from LE (that I know of) was that Haleigh wasn't abducted by a stranger (that fits with this search) but they think (or thought) she is (or was) still alive.
As far as Kim P. telling T.J. Hart the family (Crystal's) requested the search.....that just doesn't make sense unless LE had stepped up their investigation of Crystal. yep.....I'm confused....
Still praying for a safe recovery of Haleigh!

Investigators search property of Haleigh Cummings’ mother
June 26, 7:33 PM
On Friday, Putnam County officials searched the 30-acre Baker County farm of missing Haleigh Cumming’s mother, Crystal Sheffield, and her grandmother, Marie Griffis.
Law enforcement used cadaver dogs in the search after they learned the family had buried horses on the property a few months ago. By midday, they had uncovered one dead horse.
Five-year-old Haleigh disappeared from her home in Feb. while her father, Ronald Cummings, was at work and his girlfriend, now wife, Misty, was taking care of Haleigh and her younger brother.
According to officials, they did not expect to find Haleigh’s body during the search, but told News 4 Jax.com they were conducting Friday’s exploration out of “due diligence.”
Haleigh has blond hair and brown eyes and is 3 feet tall. Please call the Putnam County Sheriff's Office at 386-329-0800 if you have any information regarding Haleigh Cummings.

I don't think they requested it but welcomed it to clear up any suspicions.
Yes Anna you are right; however, Kim P. did tell T.J. Hart of skynews that the family requested the search.
IMO that has been clarified by the police....the family didn't request the search and there weren't any tips that prompted LE to do so. It was done by LE to tie up any loose ends of the investigation and rightly so. Evidently LE gave the land a cursory search when Haleigh went missing and at that time were informed by the family that they had recently buried horses on the land.
When the agencies involved in the investigation met 3 weeks ago to re-focus the search. They wanted to be sure they had followed up on every possibility. They didn't expect to find Haleigh but it needed to be done to be thorough.
Crystal Sheffield told the local news the family didn't expect Haleigh to be found on the land either but welcomed any search done anywhere for Haleigh.
Prayers for Haleigh and all of her family, and for Le in their efforts to find this little girl.

Animals unearthed at grandmother's house in search for Haleigh
Authorities were "covering their bases" in searching for the child.

Authorities on Friday dug up the remains of a horse and other animals at the Baker County home of one of Haleigh Cummings' grandmothers to ensure that the missing Putnam County girl's body is not among the remains.
The search took place at the 25-acre tract belonging to Marie Griffis, Haleigh's maternal grandmother.
Putnam County sheriff's Lt. Johnny Greenwood said authorities had earlier conducted a ground search of the home. They were told by a family member that a horse and other farm animals were buried on the land.
"We are going back over our notes and conducting secondary searches. There has not been any new information leading us that way. We are pretty much going to dig up the horse," Greenwood said. "There is no information that she is buried there at all. We just want to cover our bases to make sure we don't leave any stone unturned."
Several agencies were assisting in the search, including Baker and Duval County sheriff's offices.

I don't know LLL, the statement didn't strike me as strange, maybe because I have a strong suspicion of any statement that does contain claims of absolutes. For example, I'd be more suspicious if she had said, "Haleigh is NOT on this land." I would immediately jump to the conclusion that the only way she could know she's "...NOT on this land" is because she knows where she IS.

Hi Katfish,
I think your idea about the hair styles is a good idea. In fact, I think that when a kid goes missing, that is one of the things that should be done. I would like to see six to seven version of what some one would do to disguise a child. It should be a strip of altered photos on the news or a bill board or on posters at varies stores or where ever it is posted. Photo shop would make this easy for a forensic artist.

Hi Katfish,
I think your idea about the hair styles is a good idea.
I wish I had photoshop! I think that will be on my Birthday/Christmas list for this year! These webites to try on hairstyles are a pain!

I also remember a childs appearance being changed before leaving a store. IIRC Code Adam started at Sears as that is the store Adam Walsh was taken from.
The relative that Ron supposedly had the argument with (he says no his but Mom says yes) was investigated by the police....While they won't rule anyone out they did say they didn't think he was involved. The relative is a cousin of Misty's from TN. Early on there was a reported sighting of Haleigh at a restaurant in TN but police couldn't confirm it. Keep your eyes peeled there in TN....ya never know.

Crystal Sheffield Holds Junior
By Art Harris, The Bald Truth, © www.artharris.com, all rights reserved
Two months before Friday’s police search, a grieving mother hunting answers requested a parent update from frustrated Putnam County detectives working the Haleigh Cummings mystery, only to learn investigators had no break, but were working hard to follow up some 4,000 tips they’d run down, and remained committed to finding her daughter, and analyzing more forensic evidence.
While sources close to the case told me police did not consider Haleigh a stranger abduction, then or now, theorizing it more likely a child snatch by someone with ties to, or familiar with, the Cummings family, they couldn’t tell Crystal much, says her attorney, Kim Picazio. She joined Crystal for the sheriff’s department briefing in Satsuma that also included Sheffield’s mother, Marie Griffis.
Officially, no one had been ruled out, but sources told me investigators were focused on plugging holes in conflicting stories given by a 17 year old babysitter, Misty (then Croslin), who after several days of hard partying, reported Haleigh missing early Feb. 10 from the trailer where she was living with father, Ronald Cummings, Haleigh and little brother, Junior.
All the more reason why Marie Griffis made her unusual request – for police to search their 40 acre farm in Baker County for little Haleigh, dead or alive, to clear up suspicions, gossip or innuendo that the Sheffield side of the family had anything to do with the child gone missing. The search had nothing to do with any so called “tip,” as some have misreported.
“We wanted them to formally clear Crystal,” said Kim Picazio, her attorney in an interview with The Bald Truth. “They’d never searched the property, and we felt it important so people could read between the lines and understand she’s not on their radar as a suspect and never was.”
That request initially set plans into motion for Friday’s intense search in Baker County, sources tell me, and more than three dozen sheriff’s deputies from three counties, along with state police from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) descended on Griffis’s hay farm where Sheffield lives in a trailer with boyfriend, Chad, and daughter, Chloe, just behind Marie and Bruce Griffis’s doublewide.
As reported by local media and confirmed by law enforcement, police also brought along divers to check two nearby lakes, cadaver dogs to search for human remains (they found none), used backhoes to dig up animals –horses, cows, goats–the family alerted police before the search they’d buried on the property, according to Captain Dominic Piscitello, of the Putnam County Sheriff’s Department who supervised the effort.
“We searched just about everything and came up empty,” Piscitello told reporters, declaring there was no evidence of any human remains, or Haleigh.
Since the property belonged to Griffis’ husband, Bruce, he had to sign consent forms in advance to allow police on his property. Sources close to the case say Griffis made clear to law enforcement they would only allow police to conduct the search, not controversial private investigator William Staubs, aka Cobra, who represents Marie’s ex mother in law, and has been highly critical of Crystal and her attorney.
Out on bond for allegedly arresting an accused sex offender without authorization—something he vehemently denies—Cobra faces a third degree felony charge for false imprisonment.
While Cobra claims the family was tipped in advance of the search, Kim Picazio insists her clients requested the search, but didn’t know the exact date it would happen—an account law enforcement confirms—until searchers showed up. In fact, she seemed surprised when Crystal called her Friday morning, followed by a local reporter telling her a search was underway. Sources close to the case tell me law enforcement is keeping insider details about the investigation from Picazio.
In our interview, Picazio told me Crystal relayed that Marie was out on the property leading searchers around, and they were “digging,” something the family did not know would happen, according to sources close to the investigation. But when police showed up with back hoes, Griffis showed officers where to dig for the farm animals they’d buried.
Not only did police unearth the carcasses to confirm the claims, but used dogs to search inside and under all trailers and structures, witnesses told me. Piscatello told reporters the search turned up no clues to indicate Haleigh had been there, and called it all part of “due diligence,” just another effort to rule out potential suspects and check off extraneous issues that would allow investigators to narrow the focus of the Haleigh probe.
No search warrants were necessary, and none had to be requested, sources tell me, because the family asked for police to search. Nor would a judge likely have issued one so easily since there was no probable cause a crime had occurred there.
The only wrinkle: police searching an empty truck on the property discovered an undisclosed amount of crack and crack pipes. When I spoke with Major Gerald Gonzalez of the Baker County Sheriff’s department Monday morning, he said the truck was not registered to anyone in the Sheffield or Griffis families, but to a man described as a friend, Jesse Watkins.
“The Putnam County folks discovered the crack and crack pipes and turned it over to us,” said Gonzalez, “but we were not able to make contact with Mr. Watkins to get his take on what was located.”
According to Maj. Gonzalez, the ‘91 green and white Ford truck was parked near a trailer on the property. “Nobody was willing to stake claim to it. Basically we were told it was a friend.”
He said the Griffis are well regarded, and that there was alot of sympathy for the plight of Haleigh’s mother, Crystal Sheffield, in Baker County, where her mother, Marie, is a longtime school bus driver.
“It’s my understanding they were very cooperative, and wanted this search done to make sure everyone knew from their perspective everything that could be investigated was investigated,” said Gonzalez.
While the crack seizure remains under investigation, Maj. Gonzalez doubts there will be any arrests, or charges. “You’d never be able to prosecute something like this unless he or anyone was foolish enough to say, ‘Yeah, that’s mine.’”
Calls to Crystal, Chad, and Marie Griffis were not returned.
——————
PHOTO NOTE:
Asked about the blurry background in the photo, Kim Picazio tells The Bald Truth she snapped the shot of Crystal holding Ronald, Jr. in April with her cell phone camera. She says Haleigh’s baby brother was suffering from a terrible cold, and they’d stopped at a drug store near Satsuma for over the counter meds.
Picazio says Chloe was in a car seat next to Crystal, who had taken a sleepy Jr. from his toddler seat in the back of her green Hummer. In the far back was Sarah, Crystal’s sister; Jeremiah Regan, Haleighbug Center organizer, was driving. She says both children had car seats they used when on the move, she says.
CLARIFICATION:
Initally we quoted a law enforcement source as saying crack pipes and a small amount of crack cocaine found in the truck on the Griffis property was believed to belong to Chad. However, we wanted to make sure that was accurate and learned it was not, following up Monday morning with a call to Baker County Sheriff’s Department which confiscated the drug paraphernalia and wrote a report that found the truck belonged to a man named Jesse Watkins, NOT Chad Griffis. Officers told me they believed Watkins to be a friend of the family. No call backs from Crystal, Chad and Marie, or Watkins Monday.
Thanks, Luv. From your article:

I wonder if Misty would consent to being hypnotized? I really think it is unreliable, but maybe she is one of the people who could go under and answer questions she is unable to answer normally.....remember something...or realize she heard something in her sleep. If she really is innocent, then surely she would do anything to find Haleigh.
I definitely think Misty holds the key.
Good idea about hypnotizing.
Pretty little Haleigh should have been home tonight, eating hotdogs, ice cream and watching fireworks. How do 5 year old little girls just disappear?

I still remember that in the first days after she disappeared, the cadaver dogs hit on the dumpster near the trailer, but nothing was discovered. I have always suspected that she could have been there for a short time, then moved. I also think more than one person knows where this child is.

Haleigh's Great Grandmother Speaks Out
Posted: Sunday, 28 June 2009 7:03PM
<snipped>
In the wake of the fruitless search Friday for a missing Putnam County girl on a farm owned by her mother's family in Baker County, Florida at the family's request, another relative of Haleigh Cummings has decided to speak out.
Ruby Kanger, a great grandmother of missing Haleigh Cummings who was taken from her father's home in Satsuma on February 10, tells The Sky in this exclusive interview her thoughts about the recent search and who she thinks is involved in the girl's abduction.
Kanger said, "The search was just insult to injury and a waste of time. They don't have a shred of evidence against anybody--not anybody! If they had any evidence against somebody, why would they have gone there and did what they did?"
Kanger added, "The search in Baker County was a low point for me. I felt the lowest since the first days of Haleigh's disappearance. I realized then that, no, they weren't building a case against anyone. They don't have anything."
Nearly 40 law enforcement officers conducted that search Friday at the Baker County home of Marie Griffis, a grandmother of Haleigh Cummings. The property is owned by the family of Crystal Sheffield, Haleigh's mother, and was requested by the family, according to Kim Picazio, who is Sheffield's lawyer.
"We requested that they came out and search thoroughly," Picazio said. "It's very important to this family to clear their name and to make sure their name and to make sure their property was free of suspicion."
After criticizing law enforcement for the search, calling it "a tremendous waste of time and money," Kanger was quick to say the focus of the investigation needs to return to Putnam County and more pressure needs to be applied to Haleigh's new stepmother Misty Cummings. Misty was the last person to see Haleigh the night she vanished. As you will hear in the raw audio podcast, Kanger points out that neither Haleigh's father, Ronald Cummings Sr., nor her mother, Crystal Sheffield, had great parenting skills noting that each had come from broken homes. Beyond that, she faults Ronald for making a bad choice in deciding who was going to care for five-year-old Haleigh and her younger brother, Ronald Jr., while he was away working nights building girders for bridges.
Kanger says she believes that Misty (at that time, Ron's 17-year-old girlfriend) holds the key to everything in Haleigh's disappearance. She questions why Misty can't come up with an accurate timeline saying it suggest that she has not been completely truthful with investigators.
The questions of drugs, possible drug usage and those who provide illegal drugs also has Kanger wondering just what actually went on in the house where Haleigh lived up to the time she was abducted.
Haleigh's great grandmother did not shy away from the fact that Misty had a fight with Ron days before the little girl was taken from the home and that she had been on a sex a drug binge with Greg Page a.k.a. "White Boy Greg." She insists that further attention needs to be paid to that scenario and the people who were involved in the partying in which Misty participated just days prior to the abduction.
Kanger believes her great granddaughter's abduction was "an inside job." She notes that the back door showed no visible signs of forced entry and no signs of an intruder having been there.
Kanger is pleading with Misty to just tell the truth so. In her closing statement to The Sky Saturday Kanger said, "If can't never get your story straight, then who would you be protecting except your self? The truth has one face. The truth has one voice.....and it doesn't change.

Exclusive: Haleigh Mom Mystery Donor Records
The Bald Truth ....
<snipped>
Haleigh Cummings vanished early Feb. 10, when her father’s live-in babysitter-girlfriend, 17 year old Misty Croslin (they married shortly after Haleigh went missing) called 911 to report the child had vanished from their trailer in Satsuma, Fla., while she slept, and Ronald was at work.
Police sources tell me she remains the “key” to solving the tragic disappearance, but is no longer speaking with investigators. Her husband, Ronald, agreed two months ago to set up a meeting with investigators to answer a few more questions, with his attorney, but sources close to the investigation tell me that no date has been set for that sitdown.

Hi Jane, and everyone here!
I am praying Haleigh is alive and someone took her. My head tells me she is no longer with us. However, I was meditating about Haleigh one day and began sketching w/o my glasses on. Anyway the end product was a smiling Haleigh with short, curly, sandy hair, carrying an Easter basket and a dark haired woman walking on a sidewalk beside a diner. IDK where this came from! Maybe just my hope that she is alive and being taken care of by someone nice. It hurts my heart that this lil angel hasn't been found yet. Prayers for Haleigh and her family.

FWIW, I think Misty is the key to solving this case. There sure are alot of discrepancies in her story starting with the 911 call. Our Ms. Bond pointed out to me one day that it sounds like Misty is describing the front door instead of the back door in the 911 call. Comparing pics of the front and back doors of the MH and listening to the 911 call, her description does match the front door moreso than the back. Oh course I'm sure she was a wreck with RH thowing a huge fit while she was talking on the phone. It would be hard for me to concentrate on details accurately with all that going on in the background.
I just keep going back to Misty.

This little girl was ’snatched’ from the same room that her baby sitter, now step mom, Misty Croslin was sleeping in! I have to admit that this idea makes my mind boggle!
We have now crossed the 5 month mark in this case. Little has been resolved, and Law Enforcement are less than forthcoming with information. For the first three weeks they held daily Press Conferences, those have evaporated into a complete void.
Even respected journalists are starting to grumble at the lack of information. Inquiries are conveniently lost or forgotten, phone calls are not returned. This vacuum of information has created a very unhealthy environment. Speculation runs rampant, and is fueled by this lack of information.
The small group of journalists still covering the story are facing an increasing barrage of nonsense. Rather than being able to move the case forward we find ourselves more in a janitorial mode, cleaning up the absurdity being dished out.
As always, our panel is a bit of an unknown till the show happens. I am hoping that most of the regulars will be around, TJ Hart, Art Harris, Cobra Staubs, Ms. Pickles, Denny Griffin, and Jan and Simon Barrett.
As always we will be welcoming our listeners questions and comments. The link to show is here, or you can just go to www.blogtalkradio.com a few minutes before 3pm on Sunday July/12 3pm Central and click on the front page link.
Much of this weeks action has been behind the scenes. For a variety of reasons, not least sanity, most of us have opted to take a ‘hands off’ approach. It will be interesting to see what happens ‘on air’.
There is one thing that our small group can agree on (and trust me, there are few things), we are dedicated to bringing Haleigh Cummings home. One of those few things we do agree on is that there is someone who knows what happened 5 months ago. Why not come forward? Talk to one of us, call anonymously, but call.
Someone holds the key to the story. That key may not be held by Ron, Misty or Crystal, but someone has it. The ’stranger abduction’ holds about as much water as a leaky roof. The answer is out there, we just have to find it.

My latest thoughts on this are that Misty put the kids down to bed; Jr was in Misty's and Ron's bed and Haleigh was in the bed on the floor. I think Haleigh wet the bed, and Misty had to wash the blanket and she put Haleigh's shirt in the dirty cloths pile. At some point she decided to go to Tommy's and Lindsey's on Tyler. She was picked up by someone using the blue van; they picked up the sleeping kids, put the missing blanket in the back and went over to party. At around 2am or 2:30 am it's time to go home, they picked up the sleeping kids and put them in Tommy's vehicle (not the blue van, it was on it's way to Cresent City with Chelsea) and took the kids back to the MH. Misty forgot the blanket. At that point the kids were put in the big bed this time. Misty drove Tommy's vehicle back to Tyler and walked home, to find Haleigh gone. Why do I say this? Because the radio transmission has a statement about them (LE) being there at that address and verifying she was last seen at her residence 1 to 1 1/2 ago. This would explain how the blanket, got into the blue van and forgotten, why Misty couldn't remember where or what bed the kids were in and she forgot she had changed the shirt. this would also account for JR'S remark that a man dressed in black took his Sissy, he may have remembered seeing her being picked up on one of the trips from MH to Tyler to MH again. Misty wouldn't be able to say she left the kids alone or that she had been out with them and someone may have known she was returning the van and walking home. Just my theory today...

Requests Made for a 2nd Search Near Haleigh's Home
TJ Hart Reporting
tjhart@entercom.com
Over the course of the investigation, several psychics and some family members of Haleigh Cummings have asked the Putnam County Sheriff's Office to search a nearby property one more time for clues in the disappearance five-year-old Haleigh Cummings.
Haleigh Cummings was last seen between 8pm and 10pm February 10, 2009 in her father's Hermit's Cove home in Putnam County near Satsuma, Florida.
The girl was in the care of Haleigh's father's 17-year-old girlfriend--now teen bride-- Misty Croslin-Cummings. Misty was the last person to see Haleigh and her inconsistent timelines given to police have been frustrating for investigators in this case.
The property in question is just through the wooded area behind the former home of Ronald Cummings and has a green trailer on in it. The man who lives in the trailer is reported to be a rent-free tennent of a landlord who has granted him permission to reside there.
It is this trailer that has psychics and some members of Haleigh's family convinced that the child's body might be buried there.
Previous comments made by the Putnam County Sheriff's Office and by Major Gary Bowling state that every square inch of the wooded area has been searched and so has the property in question.
I was filing live reports from Hermit's Cove for 97.3 The Sky and for several CNN Headline News programs (Nancy Grace, ISSUES with Jane Velez-Mitchell and PRIME NEWS with Mike Galanos) the day the cadaver dogs were there and hit upon the dumpsters. I saw the dogs roaming through that wooded area, but not on the property where the green trailer sits.
These requests have come in to law enforcement ever since Haleigh vanished. One woman told me she was ordered not to contact the sheriff's office anymore with her claims regarding the trailer.
I wrote to the Putnam County Sheriff's Office Saturday asking if another search of the property could be conducted. It wasn't because I believe in psychics--It's only because history shows there might be a good reason to look again.
The body of 9-year-old Jessica Lundsford might not have ever been found had it not been for the people in that Homasassa, Florida neighborhood who insisted the property where John Evander Couey had been staying be searched again.
In that case, Couey--a repeat sex offender--took the girl from her unlocked home and held her captive at the trailer where he was staying with a relative. Over several days, Couey sexually battered the girl and fed her pizza while hinding her from his relatives. Couey panicked after police came by the trailer but didn't bother to go inside. He dug a hole on the property, bound and gagged the girl and gave her a stuffed dolphin to hold (so she wouldn't be afraid) as he placed her in a plastic bag and buried her alive.
Maybe this property is worth another look?
So far, over 4000 leads have come into the Putnam County Sheriff's Office.
Putnam County Sheriff's officials have stated repeatedly that no one has been cleared in the investigation.
I spoke recently with several of Haleigh's family members and each of them is expressing frustration at the slow movement in the case. One relative who has been virtually silent for months told me Friday night that if some level of satisfaction is not met in the next couple of days, that silence will likely be broken.
Haleigh is described as a 5 year old white female. She is approximately 3'0, 39 lbs, blonde hair & brown eyes with light peanut-shaped birth mark on her left cheek. Unknown clothing description.
Haleigh was last seen at her residence in the Hermit's Cove area of Putnam County on February 9, 2009 between the hours of 8-10pm.
A statewide Amber Alert has been issued. An additional $35,000 in rewards have been posted.

One woman told me she was ordered not to contact the sheriff's office anymore with her claims regarding the trailer.
I have to wonder if there is anything to this.
Why would LE tell her not to call them about it anymore?
When a child is missing they should take every single call seriously.
Actually, I doubt that LE searched every day. They have nothing to lose imo.
I agree. That is suspicious

Cobra said this theory is flying around. What he says is different is Misty took Jr in first and came back to get Haleigh and she was gone from the van.

Why drag the kids along if she could just leave them in bed sleeping?
I'm going to stick with my original theory. She put the kids to bed and then snuck out awhile. When she got back Haleigh was gone. Or am I missing something about this van? I didn't understand that post by MsBond. Who is who and where is where. I'm lost.

Wasn't this the van with the scratch mark? Didn't the authorites already check into that van?
I still cannot believe Haleigh is still out there somewhere...How do you keep this so quiet?

MsBond, wouldn't you think Jr would wake up during the moves? He's old enough to talk and could tell someone where he's been. Wouldn't you think?
I'm confused on this, can you clarify? Because the radio transmission has a statement about them (LE) being there at that address and verifying she was last seen at her residence 1 to 1 1/2 ago.
Sorry so late in responding:
No I don't think he would wake up fully, I say this because in the 911 call we do not hear this little guy or mention of him with all the yelling and racket going on in that small MH. It is possible that he would sleep through someone picking him up and moving him.
Regarding the radio transmission;
It is still on the internet, just look for the 911 calls and you will find the radio transmission call. I am referring to the part that says,

Radio Transmissions on the Night Haleigh Vanished
SATSUMA, FL -- Newly released radio transmissions shed more light on the night Haleigh Cummings vanished from her bedroom.
A 'signal 8,' which is police chatter for a missing person, alerted deputies to 202 Green Lane, Haleigh's home.
"I got the age on this kid," said one deputy. "Is it a boy or a girl?"
"Whiskey Foxtrot," said dispatch. It's code for white female. "Last seen wearing her PJs."
Deputies swarm her neighborhood and take note of the railroad tracks. Dispatch informs them a train just passed through.
More deputies respond, some need directions from dispatchers. And the sheriff's office works to get dogs and helicopters to the scene.
"Stay at the residence," said one deputy to a colleague. "Maintain that point of access in reference to the canine and do another thorough search from inside the house."

Haleigh Cummings - Family Members Getting Restless?

Our friend TJ Hart from The Sky 97.3 is without doubt the journalist on the ground when it comes to coverage of the Haleigh Cummings story. There were some rumblings over the weekend that at least one family member was ready to speak out. Even though I class TJ as a great friend, he did not reveal to me, nor anyone else, who his source was, nor the direction that this source was likely to take. It is my opinion that any movement in this case is a good thing, up, down, left, right. Anything that gets this case back in focus is the right thing to do. Simon
TJ Hart Reporting
The search for Haleigh Cummings has taken some frustrating turns since she was abducted from her home in Satsuma, Florida, February 10, 2009. Now, some members of the missing girl’s family are getting even more restless with length of time the investigation has taken.
I have promised my sources anonymity — It will be respected.
These family members have spoken individually and collectively with law enforcement officials almost regularly since Haleigh disappeared. They said they have been told by one of the principal officers in the case that the investigation is starting over again from square one.
Law enforcement officials tell me the investigation continues.
In the meantime, some family members have indicated to me that another physical search for Haleigh on the property where a green trailer sits beyond a wooded area behind the Hermit’s Cove home where Haleigh was taken might be take place. An officer told one family member that an attempt to contact the resident of the green trailer was in the process of being made when that officer was called into a meeting.
The other family members told me that after meeting with some investigators recently and talking later with each other that they have elected to wait an additional ten days or more before decide whether or not they will be making any public statements about the case.
Whatever investigators told them must have given them a good reason to support law enforcement’s efforts. No details from those meetings were disclosed and I doubt they will for some time.
The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office told me Friday that no one wants a resolution to this case any quicker than they do. And I believe them.

5 Months Later, No Sign Of Little Haleigh Cummings
For Haleigh Cummings' grandmother, it's not knowing what happened to the 5-year-old girl that tears her apart.
Is Haleigh alive or dead? Did someone take her from her father's doublewide mobile home early Feb. 10 or did she wander away in the middle of the night?
"If she is alive, are they taking care of her, feeding her? We wonder if we are going to ever see her again," Marie Griffis said.
Since Day One, the Putnam County Sheriff's Office said it believes the girl was abducted from the home hidden beneath towering trees near the end of a sparsely populated rural dirt street.
Ironically, Haleigh was reported missing just hours before a memorial service was held in Orlando for 2-year-old Caylee Anthony, whose body had been found after months of searching. The victim's mother, Casey Anthony, has been charged with first-degree murder. That case has somewhat overshadowed Haleigh's disappearance because of the heavy news media coverage in the Orlando area.
After searching thousands of acres on foot, on horseback and from the air and following hundreds of leads, digging through trash bins and interviewing dozens of people, the sheriff's office still doesn't have a suspect in Haleigh disappearance. A reward of $35,000 has not broken the case.
"We have to operate on several theories. Stranger abduction is one of them," Maj. Gary Bowling said. "We are investigating every possibility. There any number of things that could have happened."
Investigators quickly contacted all the sexual predators living in the area, about 60 miles southwest of Jacksonville, to eliminate them as possible suspects.
"We are working on it every day," Bowling said. "There has been a high level of frustration from the beginning of not being able to get to the logical conclusion, solve the case and return Haleigh to her family."
Authorities first learned of Haleigh's disappearance in a 911 call from Misty Croslin, the 17-year-old live-in girlfriend of Ronald Cummings, the girl's father. She told investigators Haleigh was missing when she awoke at about 3 a.m. and noticed the back door was propped open with a brick. Cummings, who worked a night shift at a bridge manufacturing company, arrived home about that time.
Investigators sealed off the area, searching it on foot with dogs and later horses. Airplanes and helicopters looked from the air, while boats plied the nearby St. Johns River.
After a round-table discussion in early June with the sheriff's office, Florida Department of Law Enforcement, the FBI and the State Attorney's Office, it was announced that there were still more than 4,000 leads being followed.
"We are not ruling out any possibility," Bowling said. Another meeting is expected soon.
While the search continued, a soap opera developed. Haleigh's parents never married, and bad blood developed after they split. Cummings, who had a job, was given custody of Haleigh and her brother.
Cummings' family was barred from the mobile home for several weeks, so they set up a camp down the street, sleeping on cots, watching a big-screen television. About a half-mile away, Haleigh's mother, Crystal Sheffield, and Griffis erected a large tent. Both camps catered to the growing media crowd.
The Sheffield-Griffis family believe Cummings and Croslin have been inconsistent in their stories to authorities. In a TV interview Sheffield also accused Cummings of physically and verbally abusing her while she was pregnant with Haleigh and of hitting the girl. But in another TV interview, she said Cummings is a good father who would not hurt the girl.
About a month after the little girl disappeared, Cummings and Croslin married and then appeared on NBC's "Today" show while on their honeymoon.
After questions developed over the care of Haleigh and her little brother, both Sheffield and Cummings obtained free legal counsel.
A call to Gregory Kimball, an attorney representing Haleigh's father, was not returned and a woman who answered the telephone at the office said Cummings was no longer doing interviews.
Deputies recently searched the property near Glen St. Mary in north Florida where Griffis and Sheffield live. They found nothing.
Griffis believes the case will eventually be solved.
"I still think the police have something. They just haven't put it all together yet. When they get all this evidence in and they can put all this stuff in one big pile, they will tell the people what they have and make an arrest," she said.
Ernie Allen, president and CEO of The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, said while speed is important, someone knows what happened to Haleigh and law enforcement just needs their information to solve the case.
"There is hope that Haleigh Cummings is alive and she is recoverable," Allen said, adding that only a third of stranger abductions result in death.

Investigators "don't leave any stone unturned" in Haleigh case

Putnam County investigators continue to wait for the right tip that could lead them to Haleigh Cummings, who disappeared from her Satsuma home in February.
Last month, officers searched the grounds at the Baker County home of the child's maternal grandmother. They located animal remains, confirming information that animals had been buried on the land and ensuring that "we don't leave any stone unturned" in the ongoing search for the child, according to the Sheriff's Office.
No suspects have been named in Haleigh's disappearance and no motive has been advanced by the Sheriff's Office as to what could have happened to the child.
Sheriff's Office spokesman Lt. Johnny Greenwood said this week there currently are no plans for additional searches without credible information calling for one. And, absent new developments, a second meeting gathering investigators from different agencies working on the case also has not been scheduled.
The Sheriff's Office does not consider the case cold, he said.

DCF: No Findings of Child Abuse Against Father of Haleigh Cummings

JACKSONVILLE, FL -- The attorney representing Ronald Cummings says there have been no findings of child abuse against the father of the missing girl.
Ronald Cummings is the father of Haleigh Cummings, the 5-year-old girl who disappeared the night of February 9 when she went to bed at her home in Satsuma.
Kimball & Snider, P.A., the firm which is handling legal matters for Ronald Cummings, released a statement saying DCF's "investigation is closed with no factual finding of abuse against Ronald Cummings."
The firm says Haleigh's brother, Ronald Cummings Jr., will continue to live with his father, and that Mr. Cummings will take parenting classes with Misty Croslin Cummings, the woman who put Haleigh to bed the night the she vanished.
The couple married about a month after Haleigh disappeared.

It's sad to know the girl is still missing and regardless of what type of parents they may or may not be to the media I know she would prefer to be home with them then where ever she is now. (Well I would like to think a child would prefer their parent) so I pray that she is found I even pray for the family and parents. Haleigh Cummings – How You Can Help!

You have made a difference, suddenly little Haleigh is back in the spotlight and our goal is to keep her there until she is brought home. One of our bloggers, iowamom, kindly forwarded us a list of contact information. Take a moment and write a letter.
Will we succeed in bringing Haleigh home? We don’t know! But we are not going to give up until we have exhausted every avenue. Even then we won’t give up!

Just a guess, but I would say it may hurt her reputation for the false charges she slung at Ron Cummings.. she was pretty adamant that he had abused Haleigh and they would prove it. Then DCF said there was no abuse found.... People need to watch what they say on TV in front of viewers, it sometimes comes back to bite them in the behind.

Both Attorneys Out in Haleigh Case
Posted: Thursday, 16 July 2009 8:48PM
97.3 The Sky learned Thursday afternoon that the attorneys for the biological parents of missing 5-year-old Haleigh Cummings of Satsuma may have been released.
Kim Picazio, the attorney representing Haleigh's mother, Crystal Sheffield, on a pro-bono basis confirmed by telephone to 97.3 The Sky Thursday at 6:31 p.m. ET that she had filed the paperwork in court earlier that day for termination of representation.
Picazio chose not to go on the record when asked how this decision came about. However, Crystal Sheffield's mother, Marie Griffis, claims Picazio was fired over alleged inside leaks in the investigation.
Apparently Ronald Cummings has released his attorneys as well as indicated in this written statement from the Law Office of Kimball and Snider:
“This office has been successful in handling the DCF investigation and resolving family law issues between Ronald Cummings and Crystal Sheffield. We undertook this representation pro bono as a public service to not only Ronald Cummings, but to the citizens of Putnam County in the interest of clearing up these controversies. There are no pending legal matters involving Ronald Cummings. We are ending today our representation of Ronald Cummings on good terms. Our website, findhaleighnow.com will remain online but will not be updated.”
It appears to be as much strange as it is ironic that both lawyers are out at the same time.

Haleigh Cummings Update: Frustration In the Investigation Posted on July 21st, 2009 by Simon Barrett in Society and Culture, crimeRead 638 times.
I just received this update from TJ Hart of The Sky 97.3 and wanted to pass it on to our readers. I think that one thing is becoming abundantly clear, it can be summed up in one word ‘frustration’. Simon
“We are working on it every day,” are the words of detectives and officers at the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office in Palatka, Florida tasked to solve the case of missing five-year-old Haleigh Cummings who was last seen February 10, 2009 in her father’s Satsuma home.
Lt. Johnny Greenwood said, “There has been a high level of frustration from the beginning of not being able to get to the logical conclusion, solve the case and return Haleigh to her family.”
Frustration is the word that describes the feelings of Haleigh’s family members, law enforcement, local officials and those who simply follow the case.
One person contacted me Monday nervously asking why the electronic sign in front of the Putnam County Emergency Operations Center no longer displayed Haleigh’s Amber Alert message and the picture of the little girl.
Thinking something had broken in the case, I called Putnam County authorities who told me “Unfortunately, the only thing that has broken was the sign.” They said they hoped to get it fixed soon with the Amber Alert displayed once again.
The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office first learned of Haleigh’s disappearance in a 911 call from Misty Croslin, the 17-year-old live-in girlfriend of Ronald Cummings, the girl’s father. Misty told investigators Haleigh was missing when she awoke at about 3 a.m. and saw the back door was propped open with a brick. Cumming ,arrived home about that time from his job on the night shift at a bridge company, .
Police sealed off the area, searching it on foot with dogs and later horses. Airplanes and helicopters looked from the air, while investigators and divers searched with the use of boats on the nearby St. Johns River.
The investigation has gone non-stop since day one.
After a round-table discussion in early June with the sheriff’s office, Florida Department of Law Enforcement, the FBI and the State Attorney’s Office, it was announced that there were still more than 4,000 leads being followed.
A second meeting was intended, but never convened.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement has also assisted in the case. But just what is FDLE’s role in these situations?
The FDLE employs analysts and forensic experts it can deploy to assist local departments. FDLE supervisors also can take over an investigation that might grow beyond the capabilities of a smaller force.
“The extent of our involvement is going to vary from case to case and agency to agency,” FDLE spokeswoman Kristen Perezluha said.
Generally, FDLE takes the lead in multi-jurisdictional crimes and assists with local cases, she said.
“Definitely our role is not to step on anyone’s toes but to offer assistance,” Perezluha said.
When help is needed, local law enforcement knows whom to contact. FDLE’s seven regional offices have long-established relationships with local departments and sheriff’s offices, she said.
FDLE has a Child Abduction Response Team, which pools resources from several agencies to help with searches. CART members go door-to-door and ask specific questions, allowing investigators to cover ground that would otherwise take officers days.
Another notable FDLE program is the Regional Domestic Security Task Force. Created after 9-11, it operates much like CART, pooling resources and preparing to handle a domestic-security issue.
Many concerned citizens have been applying pressure to local and state office holders, law makers and commissioners with emails demanding prompt and responsible action in solving the case.
Law enforcement has its hands full as they are now plowing through over 5,000 leads.
Lt. Johnny Greenwood with the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office has told me over and over again, “No one wants a resolution to this case faster than they do.”

Small towns not too proud to ask for help with high-profile crime cases
By Anthony Colarossi
SENTINEL STAFF WRITER
July 21, 2009
A missing-child poster and picture of Trenton Duckett still hang on the main entrance of Leesburg police headquarters — almost three years after the 2-year-old boy disappeared and a major crime story enveloped the small town's department.
Early in the investigation, Melinda Duckett pointed to her son's father as the likely abductor. But after he performed well on a voice-stress test and showed detectives he was not being deceptive, the case entered another realm.
Quickly, investigators went from questioning a potential prime suspect to having little more to go on than a slit made in the window screen above Trenton's bed.
"That's when we all knew this was very big," said Maj. Steve Rockefeller with Leesburg police. "Within the first day, we had FBI and FDLE working with us."
Rockefeller's experiences — and those of his investigators — during the next few months offer a case study in how a relatively small police agency can manage a big-crime investigation. The progression of any large case varies, but at some point it becomes clear to local law enforcement that it will need help tracking down leads. Most agencies realize they need outside expertise.
Since the Duckett case captured national attention in early fall of 2006, at least two other missing-person cases have tapped the resources of smaller departments around Central Florida while generating significant media attention.
The case of 5-year-old Haleigh Cummings, who disappeared in February from her home in tiny Satsuma east of Gainesville, has consumed the Putnam County Sheriff's Office.
And the May disappearance of Tracy Ocasio, 27, has kept Ocoee police focused on finding her.
All three cases share several elements: Each involves smaller departments with limited resources and well-publicized searches for people who remain missing.
Based simply on the amount of resources — or all "the hands in the pot" — devoted to determining what happened to Ocasio, Ocoee Detective Sgt. Mike Bryant said the case of her disappearance is probably the largest his department has handled in recent years. Orlando and Apopka police, the Orange County Sheriff's Office, FDLE and the Seminole County Sheriff's Office all have helped.
Bryant compared a major investigation of his type to building a home: You have plumbers, carpenters, electricians, roofers — all experts in individual disciplines.
"No matter how big things get, it is manageable," Bryant said. "You just have to have the right people in the right places."
Looking for Trenton
Leesburg considers itself a midsized police force. Regardless, the Duckett case is not the type any agency looks forward to, Leesburg's Rockefeller said.
This case included Melinda Duckett's suicide, national media glare from Nancy Grace's television show and, at one point, a separate investigation by the Marion County Sheriff's Office.
"Going through something like this is a learning experience I wouldn't wish on anybody," Rockefeller said.
It's also an episode that is impossible to prepare for fully. The cooperation and expertise of state and federal agencies were more valuable than any class or training his officers could take, he said.
"We had air support. We had electronics that you would not believe. It was amazing the stuff that we had at our disposal," he said.
Rockefeller's three key pieces of advice when local law enforcement must rely on outside agencies for help:
•Check the egos at the door.
•Never turn down an offer of help from an agency with expertise that can aid in the investigation.
•Don't assume that when departments such as FDLE or FBI enter a case that they will take it over.
Rockefeller said he learned how to delegate assignments and manage the various resources suddenly at his disposal.
When Marion County investigators later started theorizing that Trenton might have been handed off to someone, Rockefeller said, he and his investigators had to learn not "to be closed-minded."
"The focus was always finding Trenton and bringing him home," Rockefeller said. "The worst thing is we haven't found him. That's the ultimate letdown."
Rockefeller said he thinks Trenton is dead. But he added, "If Trenton was to come home and it proved me 100 percent wrong, I would be perfectly content."
FDLE offers resources
Florida Department of Law Enforcement has had some involvement in each of the three cases. The state agency employs analysts and forensic experts it can deploy to assist local departments. FDLE supervisors also can take over an investigation that might grow beyond the capabilities of a smaller force.
"The extent of our involvement is going to vary from case to case and agency to agency," FDLE spokeswoman Kristen Perezluha said.
Generally, FDLE takes the lead in multi-jurisdictional crimes and assists with local cases, she said.
"Definitely our role is not to step on anyone's toes but to offer assistance," Perezluha said.
When help is needed, local law enforcement knows whom to contact. FDLE's seven regional offices have long-established relationships with local departments and sheriff's offices, she said.
The Duckett investigation, in fact, benefited from the FDLE's Child Abduction Response Team, which pools resources from several agencies to help with searches, Rockefeller said. CART members go door-to-door and ask specific questions, allowing investigators to cover ground that would otherwise take officers days, he said.
"Before Trenton, we were unaware of that CART availability," he said.
Another notable FDLE program is the Regional Domestic Security Task Force. Created after 9-11, it operates much like CART, pooling resources and preparing to handle a domestic-security issue.
Each of FDLE's regions includes a task-force branch.
Handling high-profile cases
University of Central Florida sociology professor Jay Corzine, who studies crime and police issues, said it's not clear whether larger departments are better suited to handle high-profile missing-person cases. Orlando police, for instance, have yet to close the case of Jennifer Kesse, who vanished from her condo near the Mall at Millenia on Jan. 24, 2006.
Larger departments, however, might be better prepared to handle those rare cases that grab national media attention and require someone trained to handle the media onslaught that accompanies, such as Trenton Duckett's disappearance.
"The larger departments all have PIOs [public-information officers], and they're set up to handle the media blitz," Corzine said.

Haleigh's Parents' Attorneys Withdraw From Case
Posted By: Jessica Clark Posted By: Dave Wax 1 day ago
PUTNAM COUNTY, FL -- The attorneys for Haleigh Cummings' parents have pulled out of the case.
Five-year-old Haleigh Cummings disappeared from her Putnam County home in February and has not been seen since.
Kim Picazio represented Haleigh's mother, Crystal Sheffield, who lives in Baker County. Picazio told First Coast News she withdrew her name as Sheffield's attorney. Picazio said she could not comment about withdrawing representation.
In addition, attorneys Greg Kimball and Terry Snider of Palatka had represented Haleigh's father, Ronald Cummings.
In an e-mail, Kimball and Snider announced they are no longer Cummings' attorneys.
The email said, "There are no pending legal matters involving Ronald Cummings. We are ending today (July 16th) our representation of Ronald Cummings on good terms. Our website, findhaleighnow.com, will remain online but will not be updated."
Picazio said both sides had worked on an agreed order to resolve some ongoing conflict between the parties. The order includes issues such as visitation and taking children to doctors' appointments.
Kimball and Snider sent their email after the Department of Children and Families concluded its investigation into allegations that Ronald Cummings had abused his children. Kimball said the DCF investigation found no factual finding of abuse against Ronald Cummings.
Months ago, Picazio requested DCF to investigate Ronald Cummings after she had received information from various sources who said Cummings abused Haleigh and her younger brother.
This week, Picazio told First Coast News she is satisfied with the DCF investigation at the Putnam County level. However, she is not satisfied with the outcome.
Picazio said she feels the case workers and investigators did everything they should have and did "an outstanding job." However, she feels DCF executives chose to dismiss the investigation's findings.
Picazio told First Coast News, "The fact they didn't take action was ridiculous."
If you know any information that could help investigators find Haleigh, call 1-888-277-8477.

FDLE on the Case
It was discovered recently that the Florida Department of Law Enforcement has assigned Agent Jason Jolicoeur to investigate the Haleigh Cummings case on a full time basis. Because there are so many concerns about local law enforcement and the quality and depth of their investigation thus far, I thought an investigation into Agent Jolicoeur would be prudent.
Jolicoeur, according to his Zoominfo profile worked for the Flagler County Florida Sheriff’s office prior to his tenure with the FDLE. The most recent information found on Agent Jolicoeur was a letter of commendation from Florida’s Office of the Attorney General written in March of this year for his outstanding performance during the investigation, arrest and convictions of several Bloods Gang members in Flagler County over a period of four years. This Agent is credited with making a “profound impression” on the author, is called “qualified and exceptional,” as well as “one of the best.” This Rico investigation was called “extremely complex and complicated” and Jolicoeur was complimented in this letter on his “thoroughness, organization and preparation.”
According to this letter, this investigation culminated in the arrests of thirteen gang members in 2008 and has resulted in a total crime decrease of 27% including a 20% decrease in aggravated assaults and a 60% decrease in burglaries. Agent Jolicoeur was credited with the success of this particular endeavor.
This letter in its entirety can be viewed as images at these links
http://i636.photobucket.com/albums/uu84/justiceforhaleigh/jolicoeur1.jpg
http://i636.photobucket.com/albums/uu84/justiceforhaleigh/jolicoeur2.jpg
Jolicoeur’s zoominfo profile details many other cases he has worked on as a Flagler County Detective. Of particular interest is his role in solving a spree of home robberies in Flagler County in 2005. Nineteen homes were robbed of almost $80,000 worth of materials around the Christmas holidays and a high school was robbed o f $15,000 worth of video equipment at the same time. Four teenaged wrestlers who happened to be students at that high school were arrested within days. Ten months later all of them entered pleas of no contest and were sentenced for their crimes. Once again, Jolicoeur’s outstanding investigation skills and tenacity were credited with resolution in this case.
It appears that Agent Jolicoeur’s promotion from local law enforcement to working for the FDLE was well deserved. Considering Agent Jolicoeur’s past successes on an investigative level, and his clear ability to compile a case loaded with evidence that leads to successful convictions, it is evident that this particular agent may be the right person for the task at hand. I am pleased to find that Agent Jolicoeur has what appears to be an outstanding working relationship with the State Attorney’s office in North Central Florida and am enthusiastic that his work on the Haleigh Cummings case may lead to not only the answers we all seek, but also to the charges and convictions necessary to serve JUSTICE FOR HALEIGH CUMMINGS.

The Families of Missing HaLeigh Cummings to Hold Events in Honor of Her Birthday
Posted on August 4th, 2009
This just in from TJ Hart. We are also working on another story, however we are awaiting some conformations before rolling with it - Simon
Balloon Release
HaLeigh Cummings has been missing since she was taken from her Satsuma, Florida home on February 10, 2009. In a few days, this five-year-old girl will have been missing for six months. In a few more days, she will have her 6th birthday. Her family prays and hopes she will be returned home safely in time to celebrate that birthday.
HaLeigh’s biological parents are holding two separate events in mid-August to raise help raise awareness nationwide that this child is still missing.
The paternal family of HaLeigh Cummings is inviting people across the United States to join them in a balloon release on August 17th to honor HaLeigh’s 6th birthday. The balloons will each contain a flier with HaLeigh’s information from the FDLE Missing Child website.
HaLeigh’s father, Ronald Cummings, stated, “I want to take this opportunity to thank everyone that is helping with HaLeigh’s birthday balloon release. Please bring my baby home. I love her and I miss her with all of my heart.”
HaLeigh’s family is very thankful to all those that are joining the family in honoring HaLeigh on her birthday, as well as in helping to keep HaLeigh’s picture out in the public eye.
Ms. Teresa Neves, HaLeigh’s paternal grandmother said, “I hope that somebody will see HaLeigh’s flier and it will help bring my baby home to the family who loves her and misses her dearly.”
Here is how you can participate:
1) print out a HaLeigh’s flier from the FDLE Missing Child website link below.
2) You can then take the flier to any location where a helium balloon can be purchased – purchase either a red or a purple balloon, which are HaLeigh’s two favorite colors – roll up the flier, insert it into the balloon, and have the balloon inflated.
3) The family is asking everyone to release the balloons on August 17th at exactly 2:16 p.m. EDT in honor of HaLeigh’s 2:16 a.m. birth time.
The family feels that the 2:16 p.m. release time is a perfect time to honor HaLeigh’s birth. “We would be in the middle of HaLeigh’s birthday party if HaLeigh was home with us, so that is the perfect time to release the balloons,” said Ms. Neves.
Please join Ronald Cummings and all of HaLeigh’s family and friends in releasing a balloon on August 17th at 2:16 p.m. EDT, in honor of HaLeigh’s birthday and to help HaLeigh find her way home.
Fliers can be easily printed from the listed website:
http://www.fdle.state.fl.us
(Please remove excess paper on the printed flier so your balloon will fly)

HaLeigh’s Closet
The maternal family of young HaLeigh is also holding a community public awareness event on Saturday, August 15, 2009 at River Front Park in Palatka from 10am to 5pm. referred to as HaLeigh’s Closet.
According to the website:https://sites.google.com/site/haleighscloset, HaLeigh frequently told her schoolmates: “Caring is sharing.”
The website instructs you to check the student supply list and teacher’s wish list at left to see what items 1st graders need and then visit your favorite online retailer to order (links provided).
The site indicates that most online retailers will deliver the items to their local stores free of charge and the site suggest you check the links on the site for details.
Those who live in the Putnam County Area are invited to join HaLeigh’s family and friends at River Front Park in Palatka on August 15, 2009 from 10am to 5pm to drop off your donated supplies and celebrate Haleigh’s birthday.
Her family is also asking you to please consider donating your priceless time and talents at your local elementary school in honor of HaLeigh.
You may also send your donated supplies to HaLeigh’s grandmother:

Ronald Cummings arrested for burglary, battery involving brother-in-law
Father of missing Haleigh Cummings booked about 1 a.m. Thursday
* By Dana Treen, Amanda Winkle

Ronald Cummings, the father of missing Satsuma 5-year-old Haleigh Cummings, was booked into the Putnam County jail at 1 a.m. on a felony charge of burglary with battery.
Cummings is charged with fighting with a brother-in-law late Wednesday.
According to the Putnam County jail's booking desk, Cummings was being in lieu of $12,004 in bail set at a first appearance this morning.
Cummings was arrested about midnight.
Cummings' grandmother said the arrest came following a fight between Cummings and his wife's brother at her house.
Annette Sykes said Tommy Croslin, his father and mother came to her mobile home in Welaka at 10:45 p.m. and were trying to get Misty Cummings into their van but she refused. Sykes said Croslin hit Cummings and started a fight.
Croslin could not be reached this morning.
During the fight, Croslin went into the van and Cummings swung at him in the vehicle, Sykes said.
Croslin and his parents left and deputies arrived at Sykes' later in the night and made the arrest.
Sgt. Stacey Dowling of the Putnam County Sheriff's Office said Cummings was charged with burglary because he went into the vehicle without permission.
Cummings' daughter has been the focus of a missing child investigation since she disappeared from his residence in Satsuma Feb. 10. Investigators have nearly 5,000 leads they continue to follow in the case.
No arrests have been made in that case.

Annette Sykes said Tommy Croslin, his father and mother came to her mobile home in Welaka at 10:45 p.m. and were trying to get Misty Cummings into their van but she refused. Sykes said Croslin hit Cummings and started a fight.
It looks like RC & MC have their own home. I wonder where JR was? And, what were the burglary charges?

According to the Putnam County jail's booking desk, Cummings was being in lieu of $12,004 in bail set at a first appearance this morning.
Cummings was arrested about midnight.
Cummings' grandmother said the arrest came following a fight between Cummings and his wife's brother at her house.

Croslin could not be reached this morning.
During the fight, Croslin went into the van and Cummings swung at him in the vehicle, Sykes said.
I wonder why Misty's brother and parents were trying to get her in the van to leave? Did she leave?
If Croslin hit first and Ronald was defending himself and his wife, why wasn't there two arrests?
This is just odd...in the middle of his child missing, he goes and gets himself arrested. :thud2:

Lots more details...
Ronald Cummings, the father of missing Satsuma 5-year-old Haleigh Cummings, was booked into the Putnam County jail at 1 a.m. on a felony charge of burglary with battery.
Cummings is charged with fighting with a brother-in-law late Wednesday.
According to the Putnam County jail's booking desk, Cummings was being held in lieu of $12,004 in bail set at a first appearance this morning.
Cummings was arrested about midnight.
Reports from the Putnam County Sheriff's Office and Cummings' family say the arrest came following a fight between Cummings and his wife's brother at her house.
According to both sources, Misty Cummings' father, mother and brother Hank Croslin Jr. came to the mobile home of Annette Sykes, who is Ronald Cummings' grandmother, about 10:45 p.m. Wednesday.
Sykes said the Croslins were trying to get Misty Cummings into their van to come with them but she refused. Sykes said Croslin hit Cummings and started a fight.
The Croslins could not be reached this morning but told deputies after the fight that Misty Cummings had called them and said she wanted to leave Ronald, according to a police report by Deputy Nicole Quintiere of the Putnam County Sheriff's Office.
The Croslins went to Sykes' home, where Ronald Cummings started the fight, according to an interview with Hank Croslin Jr. in the report.
During the fight, Croslin went into the van and Cummings swung at him in the vehicle, according to Sykes and the Croslin's account to Quintiere.
Croslin and his parents left and deputies arrived at Sykes' later in the night and made the arrest after interviewing the Croslins. Hank Croslin Jr. was taken to Putnam Community Medical Center complaining of head and neck injuries.
In a statement to investigators, Ronald Cummings said his in-laws came to his grandmother's residence after being told not to by his wife. Cummings requested charges against Hank Croslin Jr. and Hank Croslin Sr. Those affidavits will be sent to the State Attorney's Office for review, according to the report.
This morning, Sgt.
Following is the report by Deputy Nicole Quintiere:
On August 5th, 2009 I was dispatched to the parking lot of the Welaka Kangaroo in reference to the report of a battery. When I arrived on scene, I met with Hank Croslin Jr and Hank Croslin Sr and also Lisa Croslin. Upon initial assessment of the situation I gathered that Hank Croslin Jr had been battered by Ronald Cummings.
Upon further investigation into the incident, I spoke with Hank Croslin Jr on his own. Hank stated that he, Lisa and Hank Sr had gotten a phone call from Misty who was crying and yelling. He said that Misty asked for them to come to her residence and pick her up because she no longer wanted to be at the residence with Ronald. In an attempt to obtain his sister, he, Lisa and Hank Sr drove to her residence on 4th Avenue. He stated that when he arrived at the residence on 4th Avenue Ronald came out and was acting crazy. He said that Ronald came out and began "swinging on him". He said that he was hit in the head and neck several times. He said that after they got in their physical altercation, he entered his vehicle in an attempt to drive away and Ronald entered the vehicle on the passenger side and began striking him again. He said that at that time, he drove away and went to the Kangaroo in Welaka to call 911. Hank Jr completed a written statement in reference to the incident. He also signed a charging affidavit against Ronald Cummings for Burglary with Battery. Hank Jr was transported to Putnam Community Medical Center complaining of injury to his neck and head.
After speaking with Hank Jr, I spoke with Lisa Croslin. Lisa stated that she was not sure what Ronald was on but he was not in the right state of mind. She said that up until now she never knew him as being violent. She said that they had received a phone call from her daughter Misty screaming and crying. She said that she was worried about her daughter and went to the residence to check on her. She said that when they arrived on scene Ronald went crazy. She said that when they were in the driveway of the residence Ronald came to the vehicle and hit her son. Lisa completed a written sworn statement in reference to the incident.
It should be noted that Hank Sr was at the scene as well. He stated that he did not wish to complete a written or recorded statement. He said that he did not want his daughter to be mad at him so he did not want to take any action. He did state though that he was at the residence when the fight occurred. He said that Ronald went crazy on his son. He said that they arrived and Ronald came out irate. He said that Ronald hit his son several times and then was forced back into the residence. He stated that after a few more minutes Ronald came back out and initiated another fight. He said that they got into three separate physical altercations before leaving the residence to call 911. No written or recorded statement was provided. He stated that he would be willing to speak in court if a subpoena was issued for him.
After speaking with all three of those subjects, I located Ronald Cummings at 216 4th Avenue. Upon initial contact, I detained Ronald Cummings for my safety and the safety of all others at the scene. It should be noted that Ronald Cummings is usually in possession of some sort of hand gun and it was mentioned that he may have been in possession of it at the current time. Ronald was taken outside of the residence by me and Deputy Nelson. Sgt Cecil Manning stayed in the residence with Misty Croslin and Ronald's grandmother Annette Sykes. Ronald was asked to explain what happened with Hank Croslin Jr. He stated to me that he did not wish to speak that it was his right to remain silent. At that time, I asked Deputy Nelson to stay with Ronald while I spoke with Misty and Annette.
Upon speaking with Misty she stated that she had talked to her brother on the telephone. She said that she asked him why he had been calling her residence all day. She said that he asked her if he could come over and she said no because it was too late. She said that he then made a big ordeal about not being able to see her and said he was coming over anyway. She said that when he arrived at the residence, he began a verbal altercation with Ronald. She then said that Hank Jr came at Ronald and a physical altercation began. She said that Ronald went into the residence as instructed by his grandmother. When Hank did not leave the residence Ronald came back out and another physical altercation began. Misty said that she was trying to break up the fight and got hit in the face two times by Hank Jr and her dad Hank Sr because she was in the middle of the fight. She said that they fought for a little while longer and then her brother and mom and dad left. Misty completed a sworn written statement in reference to the incident.
After speaking with Misty I spoke with Ronald's grandmother Annette Sykes. Annette stated that she was in bed and heard a racket outside of her house. She said she got up and opened the door. She said she saw a group of people outside in her front yard. She said she saw three men in a crowd screaming and yelling. She realized that the men were Ronald Cummings, Hank Croslin Jr and Hank Croslin Sr. She said that they were fighting and Misty and her mother were trying to get them to stop. Misty told them to leave the residence. She said that she attempted to break up the fight and told Ronald to go into the residence and everyone else to leave. She said that she separated Ronald and Hank Jr and sent Ronald in the house. She said she pushed Hank Jr, Sr and Lisa into their van and told them to leave. She said that Hank Jr continued to yell at Ronald. She said that Ronald came back out and they went to fighting again. She said that Hank Jr was in the van and Ronald reached in again after him to continue the altercation. She said that again she sent Ronald into the residence and slammed the van door shut so that Hank, Hank and Lisa would leave. She said that Hank Jr was going to the handy way to call the sheriffs office. Annette completed a sworn written statement in reference to the incident.
It should be noted that Ronald Cummings made it very clear at the scene that he had a right to remain silent and did not wish to speak about the incident without a lawyer. Ronald was placed in the rear seating area of my patrol vehicle. He was advised that he was being charged with Burglary with battery. Ronald was transported to the jail without incident. When we arrived at the jail he advised that he wished to "fill out a statement just like everyone else did against him". He stated also that he wanted to sign charging affidavits in reference to battery against Hank Croslin Jr and Hank Croslin Sr.
In Ronald's statement he stated that three people Hank Croslin Jr, Sr and Lisa Croslin showed up at his grandma's house after they were told not to come there by his wife Misty Cummings. He said that Hank Jr and Sr got out of the van and approached in an "aggressive" manner. He said that he asked Hank Jr to get out of his face and he then came closer. He thought he was going to hit him so he pushed him out of the way. He said that Hank Jr then hit him after Ronald pushed him and the physical altercation began. He said that Hank Sr then entered the fight and held him while Hank Jr hit him. Ronald completed a sworn written statement in reference to the incident and also signed charging affidavits against Hank Croslin Jr and Sr for battery.
Ronald was booked without incident on the charge of Burglary with Battery. His bond is set at $12,504.00. Photographs were taken of Ronald Cummings and Hank Croslin Jr's injuries. The photographs have been uploaded onto the PCSO website for further review. At this time, the charging affidavits against Hank Croslin Jr and Sr will be forwarded to the State Attorney's Office for further review. Any further reports or supplements will be completed and submitted in a timely manner.

I don't know how it is in other places, but here in the south it doesn't matter who started what. If you are the first one to the police station to swear out a warrant on someone the other person gets arrested and it is all sorted out in court... I know this from experience, it happened with my son... three guys jumped him and he was the one arrested.. he had to go to court, there were witnesses that saw exactly what happened and all came out ok.. it cost him a night in jail, bond money and lawyer money.

(CNN) -- The father of a Florida girl who has been missing for nearly six months was charged Thursday with burglary with assault, police told CNN.
http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2009/CRIME/08/06/missing.girl.father/art.cummings.pcj.jpg Ronald Cummings was arrested on felony charges of burglary with assault, officials said.
http://i.cdn.turner.com/cnn/.element/img/2.0/mosaic/base_skins/baseplate/corner_wire_BL.gif
Ronald Cummings is being held on $12,500 bond for the felony charges, the Florida Putnam County Sheriff's Office said.
There were no other details on his arrest available.
Cummings' daughter, Haleigh Cummings, went missing from his home in Satsuma, Florida, on February 9.
Cummings has made several public pleas for information about his daughter's disappearance, even begging whoever might be holding her to just return her home.
Police have said they think Haleigh was abducted (http://topics.cnn.com/topics/crime) but have provided few details.
In March, Cummings married his then-girlfriend Misty Croslin, who was the last person known to have seen the 5-year-old child alive, saying it was what Haleigh would have wanted.
Croslin, 17, said she tucked Haleigh and her 4-year-old brother into bed about 8 p.m. the night Haleigh disappeared. Croslin said she went to sleep herself at about 10 p.m. but awoke at 3 a.m. to find Haleigh missing and a back door propped open by bricks.
Ronald Cummings called police and reported his daughter missing when he returned from work at dawn.

There should be a record of the phone call if Misty called them...and records of they had been calling her over and over. So this is the environment little Haleigh was living in. You would think they would all be concentrating on finding the child instead of fighting. Has anyone there ever heard of just talking things out?

Haleigh Cummings' Father Bonds Out Of Jail
http://www.wesh.com/news/20300975/detail.html
This all is just odd. No indication whatsoever of what happened to precious Haleigh.
Misty, was never with Haleigh when she went missing. Yet Misty was not charged with anything relating to Haleigh. Misty marries Haleigh's dad.
Now he's arrested for fighting with Misty's family because she supposedly wants to leave.
Sadly, that's NORMAL behavior for many abusive men. They will fight till the end to keep their gf or wife, in the home, under their control.
Where was little Jr???

I don't think it has ever been proved that Misty was not with Haleigh the night she went missing.. why would she be arrested and charged.. I don't think it has been proved she had anything to do with Haleigh's disappearance.. some may not care for her or her actions, or lack of, but that does not mean she is guilty of something.
We do not have the facts of what happened last night.. so I think it's premature to label someone as abusive. Misty said in her statement to police that she told her family not to come over.. they did so any way.. We weren't there, we don't know who threw the first punch... This is just like the charges that DCF had to investigate.. so many thought the worst.. come to find out the investigation proved the allegations to be false.
I can say that with your child missing 6 months your emotions and stress levels are more than likely at the breaking point and it wouldn't take much to push you over the edge...

Based on Deputy Quintiere's report, I assume that if Ronald had a gun, it was concealed. Concealed carry laws are strict, I think that it is unlikely that Ronald has a CC permit. JMO

If you are at your home you can carry without a permit.

Just catching up here, and I've (admittedly) been skimming but do I understand it right that Misty called her family for help in leaving Ronald, they came over, a fight resulted and Ronald was jailed then MISTY BAILED RONALD OUT???
Do bail bondsmen in FL charge a non-refundable 10% of the bail?
An expensive tiff.

And yet another inconsistent story surrounding Misty (Croslin) Cummings?????
There is most likely some truth to all of their stories.
I agree with Paulie that with your child missing 6 months your emotions and stress levels are more than likely at the breaking point and it wouldn't take much to push you over the edge...
and then on the other edge of the sword, the Croslins have lived the last six months with their daughter and her husband under a cloud of suspicion, whether founded or not that has to be nerve racking.
Sounds like everyone needs to take a few steps back before they all end up in jail or with someone truely hurt. Really sad. I'm glad Annette Sykes was home, sounds like she prevented a bad situation from turning really bad.
Misty, if you are reading this, a lesson I learned long ago....unless you are in physical danger, don't pull your family into every squabble you have with your husband....if you love him it's most likely you'll forgive him...your family may not love him and might find it harder to forget the things you might tell them in anger..... just saying.

I agree about Misty; it's easy to jump to conclusions or make accusations when we want this little girl found so desperately, but nothing that we know points to Misty.
More from the article:
On Friday, the day Haleigh Cummings' mother announced an event to mark her missing daughter's sixth birthday in hopes of keeping the brown-eyed blonde in the news, police in Putnam County released a statement to quell a rumor that the girl's body had been found.
Lt. Johnny Greenwood, a spokesman for the Putnam County Sheriff's Office, said the department fielded three calls Friday from reporters who said they heard Haleigh was found dead, either in Putnam County or Jacksonville.
"We just want to get (the rumor) stopped before it gets to out of control," Greenwood said after sending an e-mail to media outlets stating the "rumor is false."
The reporters -- two from local outlets and the other from NBC -- did not say where they heard the rumor, he said.
Greenwood said the department reacted so quickly to the rumor because detectives did not want anyone thinking the case was closed.
"We don't want people to think this is over. They still need to look," he said. "Somebody out there knows something. Somebody out there has the one piece of information that we need to break this open."
We're praying for you little Haleigh. We all want you to come home safely. :innocent0001:

On Monday, it will be six months since the disappearance of 5-year-old HaLeigh Cummings from her Satsuma, Fla. home. Her mother, Crystal Sheffield continues to search for her daughter, and in a press release emailed to the Crime Examiner, said,
Although it has almost been six months since HaLeigh's disappearance, I still have hope that my daughter will come home. I will continue to do whatever it takes to keep her face out in the public for everyone to see. I ask if anyone out there knows anything to please call Crime Stoppers or your local police… I am begging once again from the bottom of my heart for whoever has my sweet daughter to let her go. Please, she needs to be home with her family, she does not belong with anyone else. This is tearing my heart out of my chest, a part of me is missing and that is HaLeigh… HaLeigh, mommy and daddy love you more than anything in this world, we will never give up on you. Someone out there knows something. Please just let someone know if you do. I will not mention your name, all I want is my daughter home safe and sound. I LOVE YOU ALWAYS HALEIGH.”
School supplies can be donated in HaLeigh's honor on Aug. 15 at Riverfront park in Palatka, FShortly after the six-month anniversary of the little girl’s disappearance will be her sixth birthday on Aug. 17. All school supplies will be immediately delivered to HaLeigh’s school for later distribution by the faculty. Only school supplies will be allowed as donations—no monetary donations will be accepted.
Griffis also released a statement about her granddaughter saying,
It's been an agonizing six months since my granddaughter’s disappearance and it is pure torture waking up each morning wondering where she may be… I never imagined ever having to go through such pain, but we will get up and continue in our daily task of finding HaLeigh… This is just the beginning of our efforts to find HaLeigh. We will never stop looking for HaLeigh and never give up even when the road gets rough… Please, if anyone has information pertaining to HaLeigh's disappearance… call and report it to the authorities listed. I beg that if you have HaLeigh please just drop her off somewhere; in a hospital, fire department, local supermarket or shopping mall. Someone out there has her or knows what happened! Six months into the unsolved disappearance of Haleigh Cummings, those who deeply love her believe she is still alive.
It’s about the only thing the two families closest to the investigation of her disappearance agree on.
With Monday marking the six-month anniversary of her case and next week’s arrival of her sixth birthday, her divided family has even scheduled separate events in Putnam County.
“It doesn’t matter what anybody says, we just want the safe return of Haleigh,” said Annette Sykes, whose grandson Ronald Cummings is Haleigh’s father. “Nothing else matters.”
Cummings and Crystal Sheffield, the long-estranged parents of Haleigh and her 4-year-old brother Ronald Jr., see each other only to exchange the boy at a pre-arranged stop in Florahome, about midway between Cummings’ home in southern Putnam County and Sheffield’s in western Baker County.
Tension between Cummings, Sheffield and their families has hummed like high-voltage background noise since the beginning of the case.
Sheffield’s mother, Marie Griffis, said law enforcement authorities have asked the two families not to have contact beyond the exchanges of Ronald Jr.
“I feel like that maybe if the families could speak with each other and put differences aside that maybe it would help the case, but there is too much going on down there and it is being pushed our way to blame us for what happened in Putnam County,” Griffis said from her home outside Sanderson where Sheffield also lives.
She said her family has been accused of abducting Haleigh and hiding her with family out of state.
She said she has no idea how her granddaughter vanished but said the kindergartner was living with Cummings and his 17-year-old girlfriend when she was reported missing.
“I don’t know what, I don’t know how but they were the last people to see my granddaughter,” Griffis said. “They’re the last two people to see her. They’re accountable for her whereabouts.”
Cummings said he and former girlfriend Misty Croslin — who he has since married and is now Misty Cummings — have been unfairly targeted.
“There should have been more attention to Crystal’s family,” he said. “I think they should have paid more attention to everyone rather than just me and Misty.”
He said questioning should have been broader.
“They didn’t have the big picture,” he said. “Why do they not question everybody?”
Cummings: It went ‘personal’
In recent interviews at Sykes’ Welaka home where Ronald Cummings, 25, and his wife live, he told the Times-Union the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office focus was shortsighted.
Standing outside wearing T-shirts with Haleigh’s likeness, Ronald and Misty Cummings said they gave dozens of hours of interviews in February and March, including her longest, which she said occurred just before the couple were married.
“I think the longest time I was in there was eight hours,” she said.
Ronald Cummings said the investigation went in the wrong direction.
“They took a child-abduction investigation and made it a personal investigation,” he said. “Instead of keeping the focus on finding Haleigh, they made the focus on Misty and what she was doing one weekend and what happened six months ago and what happened seven years ago. It was tunnel vision.”
Cummings has cut off interviews with investigators
“Besides ‘No I didn’t have nothing to do with my child being missing,’ what do you say?” he asked.
Maj. Gary Bowling, director of law enforcement for the department, said detectives would like to interview Cummings again but have been resisted.
The interviews with Misty Cummings have produced different pictures, he said. She was alone with Cummings’ children the night Haleigh disappeared. She has told authorities she woke up about 3 a.m. and found the 5-year-old missing.
“We’ve said from day one Misty’s story is absolutely filled with inconsistencies,” Bowling said.
Cummings was at work the night his daughter vanished and came home as the 911 call to authorities was being made.
He has not worked since that last night shift, then lost his job because he did not stay in contact, according to the company. Cummings said he has not been able to find another job and does not know if he can go back to work.
“Each day gets harder and harder,” he said.
He moved from the mobile home where Haleigh vanished and said he still cannot go there.
“We don’t even want to be in that area,” he said.
Cummings, who has a minor criminal background, was arrested early Thursday after an altercation with a brother of his wife and her parents.
Sykes, who saw part of the fight, said Cummings’ arrest was another difficult turn, a distraction from an attempt to heighten awareness of Haleigh’s disappearance.
“We’re trying to do something positive for Haleigh and then something like this happens,” she said Thursday.
Theories abound
Pressures have come from all sides and been kept alive on the Web where bloggers argue and speculate, said family members and others in the case.
Griffis said she has become accustomed to accusations.
“If there is inconsistencies that the police know about on our side of the family, they need to come question us,” she said. “I want them to question us.”
Mainstream media attention has waned, she said.
“All the interest is just that, it is in the blogs,” she said.
She has been accused of masterminding an abduction, that Haleigh is somewhere with other family members, she said.
She has asked to take a lie detector test and was given a voice stress analysis.
The next step should be for detectives to name those who are no longer suspects, she said.
“You need to start excluding the people that you know do not have this information,” she said.
Bowling said it takes rock-solid alibis before detectives can eliminate anyone and those have not been established. He said the best that can be done is assign degrees of suspicion to people.
“Where is the responsibility in saying somebody is not a suspect?” he said.
Sheffield, 24, is more blunt about Cummings.
“I really do feel like he is covering for Misty and she is covering for him,” she said.
In the early months of the case, a small, vacant building in Satsuma was painted purple and opened as an information center and informal listening post near the Satsuma neighborhood where Haleigh disappeared.
The Haleighbug Center was closed after Sheffield had medical problems that included seizures. Shirts and posters, donated toys and other items were brought to Baker County where Sheffield lives on family property with her fiance, their toddler daughter and his two children.
“I searched all I could down there,” she said. “My body couldn’t take it.
“Sometimes I sit and I think and I think and I think about where she could be and it drives me crazy.”
Griffis said the sense of loss deepens every day.
“It is just a lot of not knowing,” she said. “We are constantly questioning why this happened.”
Not giving up
Posters with Haleigh’s face that were once pasted to storefronts and car windows are fewer and fewer.
At Ronies Food in Glen St. Mary, a laminated poster still stands beneath a window sign advertising a lunch menu.
Jamie Taylor, whose family owns the restaurant, said taking it down would be like giving up. She said it seemed as if detectives never had much to go on.
“It’s kind of hard to take it down,” she said. “I know if it was my daughter I wouldn’t take it down until she was found.”
Both families hold on to the belief that Haleigh is alive and have organized reminders of her upcoming birthday and that it’s been six months since she’s been seen.
“I believe she is still alive,” Griffis said. “And that Ronald and Misty they are the key to it.”
Among the events will be a school supply drop-off and a prayer vigil the families have organized independently. A balloon release is scheduled to increase awareness that she remains gone.
“We don’t want World War III,” Sykes said. “It doesn’t matter what anybody says we just want the safe return of Haleigh.”

This is the problem. If the authorities know how inconsistent Misty's "stories' have been, where can they go from there?
I don't understand why Cummings has cut off all interviews with the authorities. If it's both Misty and Ronald who refuse to speak with the investigators, how do they intend for the police to find Haleigh? That doesn't make either one of them look good not to do all they can to help find Haleigh!
:madranting94dp:
Haleigh needs to come home, she needs her family. :1222423:
Her health is at risk and I do hope if she is with someone, they are taking care of her...:frown:
Hummmm the above article made me scratch my head alittle. :0doh:
Since Misty's statements are inconsistant, why hasn't she been questioned again by different LE, FBI, or by other interrogators?
She's not talking to LE and now Ronald isn't either? :girl_sad:
Any father who really loved and cared about his innocent, 5 year old child would not IMO stop talking to the cops. :duh:
I think LE in that town needs to bring in some fresh eyes and start a new investigation. SOMEONE in that tiny little town knows where Haleigh is. They know what happened to her that night.:nocomment: It makes me sick to think that kids can disappear into thin air. Especially when they were last seen in their bed. :z0tdntknw:
Someone needs to start talking. Haleigh needs to be brought home!!!!!
How can Ron not talk to LE when Haleigh's vanished? I can't get over that.

I don't understand this, either. Doesn't LE in this town have the power to force Misty and Ron to be interviewed? Or the FBI? Inconsistencies in Misty's story are acknowledged; I just don't get it.
Haleigh's grandmother said that "something" that Haleigh would/should never be without was missing from the trailer. Some have speculated that it was her inhaler. She does need an inhaler, I would think that if someone has her and is getting the medication, it would be traceable - even if it's a new prescription under someone else's name. I say this because I believe that whoever took Haleigh knew her and about her medical condition. JMO

It made me cry, then it made me mad. Mad because a five year old vanished and the town is back to normal. Where are the missing person posters? Why isn't someone carrying on the search for this child????
SOMEBODY knows something.

Whoever took her knew the exact layout of the trailer home, where the light switch was, how to get the door open and find something to prop it with, where Haleigh was....EVERYTHING. I do not feel that this was some random abduction. I also do not feel that the child's mother or her family had one single thing to do with it. How can anyone watch everyone suffer day in and day out and not at least drop an anonymous note telling where Haleigh is. How can anyone be that mean and cruel?

When you stop talking to the very people who are in charge of investigating wth happened to your child... you don't stop cooperating.
There are still a handful of supporters. But fewer and fewer the more that happens.
Ron and Misty hold the key to what's behind the door marked 'true story', imo.

ITA, Amanda. If Ronald and Misty refuse to cooperate, I would think that supporters would say "why should we help;" and then there are those who will become skeptical because of the refusals. JMO

The comment sections of all the articles are not favorable. No relevance except it shows there is not much community support left.
Today I was able to get the 6-mo anniv vids and a few good pics for the photobucket.
Including obvious grief from some of the family--

Just a little reminder, I haven't made on in here for quite a while, we are not here to criticize family members.... We are not in their shoes, we do not know all that is/has gone on. We only get what the media feeds us.. and we don't know if it is old info being re-written..
Remember the Ramseys and how they were vilified, and years later were cleared of any wrong doing...
Thank you...

Family Members Hold Out Hope for Haleigh's Return

PUTNAM COUNTY, FL -- In Haleigh Cummings' home is a present and many stuffed animals. The gifts are sitting by the front door waiting for the five-year-old.
Nearby there is a candle which the family lights every night. They say the candle will burn until Haleigh comes home.
"It's waiting, everyday waiting for somebody to say we found Haleigh," says Annette Sykes, Haleigh's great-grandmother.
It's been six months since the little girl just vanished from her Satsuma home. Ronald Cummings, Haleigh's dad, moved out after the disappearance. Someone else lives in the home now.
"If anything it's gotten worse for Ron," says Sykes. She says he rarely sleeps anymore.
They say it's as if life is standing still and it was just yesterday that panic had set in.
Next week, Haleigh will turn six-years-old. The family still holds out hope that she is still alive.
But everyday there are fewer tips that come in to police. "Somebody knows what happened to Haleigh Cummings. We are just waiting for that one piece of information to break the case wideopen," says Lt. Johnny Greenwood, of the Putnam County Sheriff's Office.
Greenwood says a FDLE agent is now combing through all leads to make sure nothing is missed. "We are gonna find her and bring her home," says Greenwood.
Six months after she disappeared, Haleigh's family has a message for the person who took her. It is the same one they pleaded before. "Just bring her home."
Police say they have no suspects in this case.

Ronadl Cummings, hugging his wife, Misty. (AP)
Last week, the father of missing 6-year-old HaLeigh Cummings was arrested for burglary with battery (http://www.examiner.com/x-1168-Crime-Examiner%7Ey2009m8d6-Haleigh-Cummings-father-arrested) in an altercation with his bride’s family. He has now been implicated in another act with the in-laws involving a dead rat and a mailbox.
Ronald Cummings and his wife Misty have been the subject of media attention since the disappearance of his daughter in Feb. Haleigh went missing on Feb. 9, while her father was at work and his then girlfriend, now wife, Misty, 17, was at home with the little girl and her younger brother.
Misty, whose maiden name is Croslin, claims she went to sleep and later got up to use the bathroom. At that time, she saw the kitchen light on, the back door propped open with a brick, and discovered Haleigh was gone.
Last Saturday, Hank Croslin Jr., Misty’s brother, filed a report with the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office regarding a dead rat in his mailbox. He said he saw Cummings put something in his mailbox at around midnight.
The police report regarding Cummings’ Thursday arrest indicates that there was a physical altercation between Hank Croslin Jr. after the family tried to come to Misty’s aid, who called them for help.
Read the police report by clicking here (http://www.examiner.com/x-1168-Crime-Examiner%7Ey2009m8d6-Police-report-detailing-arrest-of-Haleigh-Cummings-father-Ronald).
Haleigh has now been missing for six months. She has blond hair and brown eyes and is 3 feet tall. Please call the Putnam County Sheriff's Office at 386-329-0800 if you have any information regarding Haleigh Cummings.

The Police Report:-
The official police report is below:
Deputy Nicole Quintiere made the following report concerning an incident that took place 8/5/09 at about 11:30 pm
Scene: 216 4th Avenue Welaka, Florida 32193
Driving directions: Highway 17 south, Left on CR 308B, right on 4th Avenue. Residence: DWMH white in color with add on porch.

Sarah, this is another example of the many things that I don't understand. Because Ronald has not been convicted, I will say that the allegation is unbelievable. Exactly how will putting a rat's head in a mailbox help bring Haleigh home? :45024:
JMO
So what happens now then, because I am slowly learning about your penal system, am I right in thinking that RC has been charged with this offence, will go to court and have a trial? Could they still charge him even if LE didn't think their was enough evidence to convict him, does he get charged on Misty's father and brother's words of the event? Is this something he could likely get jail time for?
I agree that this is just an allegation against him, it's just things seem to keep on happening to the Cummings family. I would like to see them all united in this mission to find their beautiful and missing daughter Haleigh.

In-Laws Say Haleigh's Dad Put Dead Rat In Mailbox
Hank Croslin Says Neighbor Saw Cummings Do It
POSTED: 4:03 pm EDT August 12, 2009
UPDATED: 4:36 pm EDT August 12, 2009
SATSUMA, Fla. -- The father of a missing Putnam County girl is having more trouble with his in-laws.Ronald Cummings, father of 5-year-old Haleigh Cummings, stuffed a dead rat into his new father-in-law's mailbox, Hank Croslin told the Putnam County Sheriff's Office.Croslin filed the report Wednesday, saying that a neighbor saw Cummings put the rodent in his mailbox at about midnight Tuesday. The Putnam County Sheriff's Office is investigating the claim. This latest scuffle comes just days after Cummings was booked into the Putnam County Jail on charges that he beat up Hank Croslin and his wife Misty Croslin's brother at the couple's home.During that incident, the Croslins said Misty called them in the middle of the night asking them to pick her up because she didn't want to live with Cummings anymore -- so they went to get their daughter. The family was finally able to drive away and dialed 911 for help. Deputies eventually spoke with Cummings.Haleigh Cummings, 5, was reported missing from her home in Satsuma in February, and no trace of the girl has been found. A $35,000 reward remains available for her return. The Department of Children and Families closed an abuse investigation into Ronald Cummings last month and found no evidence against him in his daughter's disappearance.Cummings proposed to Croslin in a Palatka Chili's on March 8 and the two wed shortly after.

New Accusation In Putnam Family Feud
Legal Accusations Continue As 5-Year-Old Remains Missing

SATSUMA, Fla. -- The dispute between the families involved in the life of a 5-year-old girl who disappeared six months ago continues to grow. The latest accusation involves a headless rat left in a mailbox.Haleigh Cummings disappeared Feb. 10 from her father's home where his 17-year-old girlfriend, Misty Croslin, also lived. They have since married.Last Thursday, the father, Ronald Cummings, was arrested after a fight with his new wife's relatives. He posted bond and was released later that day.Cummings claimed his in-laws started the fight and he signed an affidavit against his brother-in-law, Hank Croslin Jr., and his father, Hank Sr.On Saturday afternoon, the Putnam County Sheriff's Office was called to the Croslin's home again, this time over a dead rat found in their mailbox. Deputies were told that a neighbor witnessed Ronald Cummings' truck slow down just after midnight and the driver placed something in Croslin's mailbox.Video: http://www.news4jax.com/sh/images/ibs_icon/post/video.gifBeheaded Rat Found In Mailbox (http://www.news4jax.com/video/20375786/index.html)
"One of my neighbors seen him drive by in his truck and put the rat in our mailbox, so we know they did it," Croslin Jr. said. "It kind of scares me because I always heard that was like a death threat, a threat against someone's life, when you cut a rat's head off and stick it in someone's mailbox."The deputy who investigated the complaint wrote that Hank Croslin Jr. and his parents told him they felt threatened by Ronald Cummings. From the incident report:
"Hank stated that he knew Ronald owned several guns, and was afraid Ronald was going to show up and cause problems at the residence. Hank also said that he believed the headless rat found in the mail box was a sign from Ronald that he was going to kill him."

Deputies contacted Cummings, but the sheriff's office would not discuss the case. Lt. Johnny Greenwood did issue this statement on Wednesday:
"This incident is not related to the investigation of missing five year-old Haleigh Cummings; therefore, we will not be participating in interviews or providing statements regarding this incident. Our only objective is, and always has been, finding Haleigh Cummings and returning her home to her family."
Cummings also did not want to talk about the incident, saying only "authorities will work things out."Cummings never married Haleigh's mother, Crystal Sheffield, who now lives in Baker County and has been openly suspicious of Ronald Cummings' involvement in the girl's disappearance. The Sheffield family is planning a balloon release for Monday, which would be Haleigh's sixth birthday.Since the day Haleigh went missing, the Putnam County Sheriff's Office said it believes the girl was abducted from her home in Satsuma. After searching thousands of acres on foot, on horseback and from the air, following thousands of leads and interviewing dozens of people, the sheriff's office still doesn't have a suspect in Haleigh's disappearance. A reward of $35,000 has not broken the case.Anyone with any information about Haleigh's disappearance is asked to call Crimestoppers at 888-277-TIPS.

The Gainesville Sun
Ronald Cummings was not charged but was questioned by Putnam County sheriff's deputies about the Aug. 8 rat incident, which was reported two days after Cummings was arrested in connection with another alleged incident involving his wife's family.
Deputies arrested Ronald Cummings Aug. 6 on a charge of burglary with assault or battery after he was accused of hitting his brother-in-law.
Deputies said Cummings and Hank Croslin Jr., the brother of Cummings' wife, Misty, got into a fight on Aug. 6 after Misty contacted her family and said she didn't want to stay at a home with her husband any longer.
When her brother and parents arrived, Hank Croslin said Ronald Cummings was "acting crazy" and swung at him. Croslin said that, as he tried to drive away, Cummings got into the vehicle and started hitting him again. Cummings, meanwhile, signed affidavits saying his brother-in-law and father-in-law were the aggressors, the Sheriff's Office reported. Deputies forwarded those affidavits to prosecutors for review, and Ronald Cummings was booked and later released on bond from the jail. The matter remains under investigation by the State Attorney's Office.
On Saturday, deputies were dispatched to Hank Croslin's home to investigate a claim that Ronald Cummings may have put a headless rat in Croslin's mailbox. Cummings told deputies he was not responsible for the incident.
Croslin told a deputy that he found the mutilated rodent in his mailbox and suspected Cummings put it there because, during the dispute a week earlier, Cummings allegedly told Croslin he would get back at him.
Croslin also told deputies that he knew Cummings owned several guns and he was afraid the headless rat was a sign Cummings was going to kill him. Croslin told deputies he wanted charges filed against Cummings.
A witness who lives nearby gave deputies a written statement about what she saw the previous night. The woman said she had been watching television and heard a truck coming up the road in front of her house. In her statement, the woman wrote that she saw Cummings driving his truck and saw him slow down in front of Croslin's house. Then, she said, he appeared to put something into the mailbox.
Cummings denied the allegation, deputies said, and also voluntarily agreed to be questioned about the incident and to provide a written statement.
Ronald Cummings is the father of Haleigh Cummings, who disappeared from the home she shared with him, her younger brother and her father's then-girlfriend Misty Croslin in February. Cummings and Croslin have since married.
Investigators continue to search for the 5-year-old girl, who has not been seen or heard from since. Haleigh, who has blond hair and brown eyes, weighed 39 pounds and was 3 feet tall when she was last seen.

Sarah, I really don't have enough legal knowledge to answer your questions, but I will offer my thoughts. I would assume that putting a rat in someone's mailbox would be a misdemeanor (see below;) I have no idea what the charge would be - possibly harassment of some sort.
If the DA does not feel there are grounds to charge a person, they will not do so. I'm hoping that in this case, because the alleged incident occurred only 2 days after the altercation between Misty's father & brother, and Ron, that LE will investigate this to whatever degree they can. If it's true, it could lead to escalating problems if not addressed now.
What distinguishes a misdemeanor from a felony?
Each state has a body of criminal law that categorizes certain offenses as felonies and others as misdemeanors. These offenses generally appear in the state's "penal code," the vehicle code, or the health and safety code (for drug offenses).
Felonies are more serious crimes than misdemeanors. Robbery, kidnapping, rape, and murder are examples of felonies. Public drunkenness, resisting arrest, and simple battery are misdemeanors. However, the same offense might be either a misdemeanor or a felony, depending on its degree. Petty larceny (stealing an item worth less than a certain dollar amount) is a misdemeanor. Over that amount, the offense is grand theft (a felony). Similarly, the first offense of driving while intoxicated may be a misdemeanor. After a certain number of convictions for that same offense, the state may prosecute the next violation as felony drunk driving.
The federal government and most states classify felonies as all crimes that carry a maximum sentence of more than one year. Misdemeanors are offenses punishable by a sentence of one year or less. Some states, however, draw the line based on the place of possible confinement. If incarceration is in the state prison, the offense is a felony. If the offense is punishable by a term in jail (usually a county facility), it is a misdemeanor.

I wish the acts and/or allegations would stop; Haleigh is still missing and this behavior is distracting from her. :madranting94dp:

Thanks for explaining Jute.
If they all see sense and realise that none of this is helping to find Haleigh, they can put it all behind them and focus on finding her together. If Ron goes to jail I don't see how that can be productive or helpful at all, especially not to Ronald Jr who needs him more than ever now.
My heart truly goes out to Ronald, stress can make you do odd things, and he certainly has had alot of stress, anxiety and pain these last 6 months, I cannot imagine how he is feeling and how it has affected him. MOO

Ronald needs to watch his steps, if he keeps on this road he will be a good candidate for loosing custody of Ronald Jr...this is not a good envirornment for that child...
I don't understand why he would place himself in the position of being arrested while his daughter is out there somewhere missing...how does that help his cause?
IMO, Ronald and Misty are just going on with their lives w/o Haleigh, makes me wonder...:cray:
The significance of that rats head in the Croslin's mailbox has an underlying threat attached to it..why would he add more fuel to that fire? Ronald needs to grow up and stop acting like a child who throws a tantrum...he needs to refocus on Haleigh and her being missing for 6 months...August 17the will be Haleigh's birthday, he needs to stay focused or he will loose his freedom and that will hurt more than he knows...

I'm going to Florida at the end of August. I will be very close to Satsuma. I don't know if the friend I'm visiting will want to go over there, but I will try to see if that is a possibility. Maybe I can rent a car for just that one day and drive over there. I don't know that there is anything I can do, but maybe I could take some photos.

Ron can alleviate a lot of his stress if he would just take himself and his bride down to LE like they have been asking for months to clear up Misty's inconsistences, then LE can move forward with a more definitive time line and find where and what happened to his daughter. I have never seen a parent of a missing child avoid talking to the police as Ron as done. Its pathetic.
moo
If LE have been asking for months to question him why not just arrest him and question him. I cannot imagine his stress levels going down until his daughter is found, and from what we know there is no evidence that Ron or Misty did anything to Haleigh or had any hand in her disappearance.
I wasn't aware that Ron is avoiding talking to LE, he has certainly been in their police station a couple of times recently, if he was avoiding LE then why do something that would put him in LE's direct line of fire??

To me it looks like the LE did not find anything to the 'Rat' story.. if they had they would have charged someone.. but they did not. It's very possible it was not true to begin with.. or was put there by someone wanting to cause problems..
What bothers me more than the sick headless rat incident, is Ronald being accused of attacking his teen wife's family member after she called them to come get her. http://www.shortnews.com/start.cfm?id=80119
That imo showed some type of violent tendencies. His daughter, his 5 year old little innocent child is missing.............6 months missing.

In other articles it reports that Misty told her family not to come over there and they did anyway.. So who do you believe... did Misty's brother shove or take a swing first, if he did.. did Ronald push/swing back? If you have a child that was missing 6 months, had been through all the 'specualtion' and talk there has been, through the LE interrogations, thinking it's all going nowhere.. I know my emotions would be on the verge of erupting at any given moment if pushed.. I guess I have a violent side also because I would fight back if that was the case.
All we get is what the media feeds us, how much of that is true and how much is sensationalized... My feelings, let these families have their own private fueds and the LE continue to look for and find Haliegh.

The Families of Missing HaLeigh Cummings to Hold Events in Honor of Her Birthday
J Hart
HaLeigh Cummings has been missing since she was taken from her Satsuma, Florida home on February 10, 2009. This five-year-old girl has been missing for over six months. She will turn 6 on Monday. Her family prays she will be returned home safely in time to celebrate that birthday.
HaLeigh's biological parents are holding two separate events in mid-August to raise help raise awareness nationwide that this child is still missing.
HaLeigh's Closet
The maternal family of young HaLeigh is also holding a community public awareness event on Saturday, August 15, 2009 at River Front Park in Palatka from 10am to 5pm. referred to as HaLeigh's Closet.
According to the website:https://sites.google.com/site/haleighscloset, HaLeigh frequently told her schoolmates: "Caring is sharing."
The website instructs you to check the student supply list and teacher's wish list at left to see what items 1st graders need and then visit your favorite online retailer to order (links provided).
The site indicates that most online retailers will deliver the items to their local stores free of charge and the site suggest you check the links on the site for details.
Those who live in the Putnam County Area are invited to join HaLeigh's family and friends at River Front Park in Palatka on August 15, 2009 from 10am to 5pm to drop off your donated supplies and celebrate Haleigh's birthday.
Her family is also asking you to please consider donating your priceless time and talents at your local elementary school in honor of HaLeigh.
You may also send your donated supplies to HaLeigh's grandmother:
Marie Griffis. at

Glen St Mary, Fl. 32040
Special Church Service
A special church service and vigil will be held Sunday, August 16, 2009 at 3pm at the Baptist Church in Wellaka, Florida with the family of Ronald Cummings Sr.
Balloon Release
The paternal family of HaLeigh Cummings is inviting people across the United States to join them in a balloon release on August 17th to honor HaLeigh’s 6th birthday. The balloons will each contain a flier with HaLeigh's information from the FDLE Missing Child website.
HaLeigh's father, Ronald Cummings, stated, “I want to take this opportunity to thank everyone that is helping with HaLeigh’s birthday balloon release.
Fliers can be easily printed from the listed website:
http://www.fdle.state.fl.us/mcicsearch/FlyerNewPerson.asp?Case_Id=28474&case_nbr=
(Please remove excess paper on the printed flier so your balloon will fly)
