MCCLEARY — Police are asking the public’s assistance in locating a 10-year-old McCleary girl who did not return home Friday night from a visit with a friend.
Lindsey Baum, who was wearing a hooded sweatshirt that was either gray or blue, jeans and black sneakers, was walking from her friend’s house on Maple Street to her own home on Mommsen Road, a four-block distance, and was last seen at about 9:15 p.m., said Sgt. Ed Patrick with the Grays Harbor Sheriffs Office.
Baum’s mother called the McCleary Police Department at 10:50 p.m., having waited in case her daughter had run into friends or otherwise dawdled, Patrick said.
McCleary Police set up the initial search, but called in the Sheriffs Office at 4 a.m., Patrick said. Thurston County sheriffs deputies are assisting.
Baum is four feet, nine inches tall and weighs about 80 pounds. She has brown hair and brown eyes.
Anyone with any information is urged to contact the Grays Harbor Emergency 911 Center at 360-533-8765 or the McCleary Police Department at 360-495-3107.

A search is under way in the town of McCleary for 10-year-old Lindsey Baum.
McCLEARY, Wash. - A search is under way in the small town of McCleary for a 10-year-old girl who didn't make it home Friday night.
Lindsey J. Baum was last seen at roughly 9:15 p.m. on Maple Street. She was walking home from a friend's house, and the distance she had to go was only about four blocks.
Family, friends and police are all aiding in the search.
Family members are concerned because she has never run away from home.
"We're hoping that Lindsey's just somewhere out there and she's afraid she's in trouble, and Lindsey you're not in trouble - come home," said Melissa McCann, a friend."If anybody's seen her, send her home."
Lindsey is described as 4-foot 9-inches tall and 80 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. She was last seen wearing a grey pullover hoodie with blue jeans and black shoes.
McCleary Police say she doesn’t have a history of running away, and since there are less than 2,000 people in town, someone would recognize her if she were walking the streets.
Anyone with information should contact the police.

Small town baffled, alarmed at 10-year-old girl's disappearance

A volunteer goes door to door, passing out fliers about the missing girl
MCCLEARY, Wash. - A wide-ranging search is under way for a 10-year-old girl who vanished Friday evening while walking home from a friend's house in this small town set amid forested hills west of Olympia. And now the entire town is worried.
Lindsey J. Baum was last seen at 9:15 p.m. Friday when she left her friend's home on Maple Street, where she had been visiting, said Dave Pimentel of the Grays Harbor County Sheriff's Office.
Lindsey was going to walk the four blocks to her home on Mommsen Road, which is roughly a 10-minute walk. But something happened in that short distance - Lindsey never arrived home.
"She hasn't been seen or heard from since," Pimentel said.
Her mother reported her missing at 10:50 p.m. And as the hours drag by with no sign of her, the girl's family fears she may have been taken by a stranger.
Search teams have been out looking for the girl, using bloodhounds. Sheriff's deputies, meanwhile, are calling people who live in the neighborhood and also are going door to door to see if anyone heard or saw anything.
Other searchers are combing the nearby woods on ATVs. Everyone is anxious for any sign of the missing girl.
Pimentel said Lindsey has never been a runaway. "We don't suspect that at this time," he said.
The girl's disappearance has shocked many residents of McCleary, population 1,550, where the biggest employer is a lumber mill that manufactures doors and people know their neighbors.
"We don't know what happened to her yet. All we know is she's missing, and we're taking every effort we can to try and locate her," he added.
Police say it appears Lindsey walked at least part of the way with home with friends, who didn't see anything unusual.
Melissa McCann, a family friend, said, "This is a small town. These things don't happen. And yet here they are. She comes from her friend's (house) a lot, so it doesn't make sense that she didn't show up at home. We're just baffled."
Pimentel said it's strange that nobody saw anything unusual.
"Such a small community like this - you can't do much in a town this size without everybody knowing about it," he said. "Everybody in town knows she's unaccounted for."
Lindsey's mother admits the 10-year old had been fighting with her brother in the moments before she was last seen, and that Lindsey is still upset about her parent's recent divorce.
But with every passing hour, there are mounting worries that the friendly girl who will talk with anybody is in serious trouble.
Lindsey was last seen wearing a gray hooded pullover sweatshirt, with blue jeans and black shoes. She stands about 4-feet-10-inches and weighs about 85 pounds.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Grays Harbor 911 Center at (800) 281-6944 or the McCleary Police Department at (360) 495-3107.

Search on for missing McCleary girl

10-year-old Lindsey Baum has been missing since Friday night.
MCCLEARY — Police are asking the public’s assistance in locating a 10-year-old McCleary girl who did not return home Friday night from a visit with a friend.
“I just need my daughter home,” said Melissa Baum, mother of Lindsey Baum. “Lindsey, please come home, you’re not in trouble.”
Lindsey Baum was wearing a hooded sweatshirt that was either gray or blue, jeans and black sneakers, was walking from her friend’s house on Maple Street to her own home on Mommsen Road, a four-block distance, and was last seen at about 9:15 p.m., said Sgt. Ed Patrick with the Grays Harbor Sheriffs Office.
Baum’s mother called the McCleary Police Department at 10:50 p.m., having waited in case her daughter had stopped to talk to her friend or otherwise dawdled, Patrick said.
Melissa Baum said Lindsey wasn’t angry Friday night, and left without money, a change of clothes or her cellphone. Police have searched for the girl in the homes of her friends, in case she had been “hiding out.”
“She wouldn’t have run away,” Baum said, her voice hoarse. “If she had been hiding she would have come out by now. She can’t hide that long, she loves to talk.”
Baum called her daughter a “mama’s girl,” and said the two were re-reading the Harry Potter books aloud to prepare for the upcoming movie. Lindsey wanted to have her friend over to read with them, and left while it was still light out.
Chief George Crumb of the McCleary Police Department said friends and family are assisting the search, and that while his department hopes Baum just ran off on her own, “she’s been gone far too long.”
Melissa Baum said she is afraid someone has taken her daughter, and taken her away from McCleary.
“If anyone does have her, bring her back home or take her to a pay phone where she can call home,” Baum said.
In the five years Crumb has been with McCleary there has not been an abduction. No Amber Alert was initiated because no one had seen anyone take her. Lindsey Baum was simply reported as a missing child.
“It did not meet any of the criteria for an Amber Alert,” Crumb said.
McCleary Police set up the initial search, but called in the Sheriffs Office at 4 a.m., Patrick said. Thurston County sheriffs deputies are also assisting.
“We are keeping our fingers crossed,” Crumb said.
Baum is four feet, nine inches tall and weighs about 80 pounds. She has brown hair and brown eyes.
Anyone with any information is urged to contact the Grays Harbor Emergency 911 Center at 360-533-8765 or the McCleary Police Department at 360-495-3107.

FBI joins search for missing 10-year-old girl
http://media.komonews.com/images/090627_lindsey_baum.jpg
Story Updated: Jun 28, 2009 at 1:00 PM PDT
MCCLEARY, Wash. - The FBI has joined the search for a 10-year-old girl who vanished Friday while walking home from a friend's house in this small mill town.
Officials said the federal crime-busting bureau was brought in because of its expertise and experience in solving missing children cases. The FBI also will be bringing in more law enforcement personnel to assist.
As the search for 10-year-old Lindsey J. Baum stretched into its second day Sunday, police and family - along with the whole town - are baffled and concerned at the girl's disappearance in a town where everyone knows their neighbors.
Lindsey was last seen between 9 and 10 p.m.
A wide-ranging search was launched early Saturday in the town and the surrounding forests. The town was criss-crossed three times, but not a trace of Lindsey has been found. Even bloodhounds failed to pick up her scent.
The search was resumed Sunday at 6 a.m., and has now been expanded. Three times as many people are involved as on Saturday, and searchers are looking at areas that weren't checked earlier. So far, however, their efforts have met with the same futile result as the day before.
Police are hesitant to call the girl's disappearance a case of foul play just yet, but the girl's family fears the worst.
"I've tried to keep the thought of somebody grabbing her out of my mind," says her mother, Melissa Baum.
She says Lindsey argued with her brother on her way to a friend's house Friday night. She talked to her friend for a bit, then started for home as darkness fell.
The friend's father, Scott Williams, said he asked Lindsey to go home before it got too dark.
"She was here 10, 15 minutes, and then, you know, we said, 'You should probably get going before it gets dark,' and that was the last we heard of her," he said.
Witnesses say Lindsey seemed normal as she headed out around 9:15. Another friend even walked her part of the way, but Lindsey never showed up at her home.
"I want to think that everything's OK, but there's a part of me that thinks the worst," Williams says.
Now hope has turned to anxiety and alarm among frustrated search teams - and the whole town, population 1,550.
The mother is also at a loss.
She says her daughter is upset about her recent divorce, but doesn't have money to run away - and has never tried to run away before. Her mom doubts at this point that Lindsey is trying to hide.
"If somebody does have her, I wish they would just drop her off somewhere where she can get to a pay phone and call 911 or call home, so that we can come and get her," she says, sobbing.
Melissa McCann, a family friend, said, "This is a small town. These things don't happen. And yet here they are. She comes from her friend's (house) a lot, so it doesn't make sense that she didn't show up at home. We're just baffled."
Lindsey's father lives in Tennessee. Police have contacted him, and he's not suspected of any involvement in Lindsey's disappearance.
Pimentel said it's strange that nobody saw anything unusual.
"Such a small community like this - you can't do much in a town this size without everybody knowing about it," he said. "Everybody in town knows she's unaccounted for."
Lindsey was last seen wearing a gray or blue hooded pullover sweatshirt, with blue jeans and black shoes. She has brown eyes, brown hair, and stands about 4-feet-9-inches and weighs about 80 pounds.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Grays Harbor 911 Center at (800) 281-6944 or the McCleary Police Department at (360) 495-3107.

Search under way for missing Grays Harbor Co. girl
THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
SEATTLE -- FBI agents have joined the search for a 10-year-old Grays Harbor County girl missing since Friday night.
Lindsey Baum was last seen walking home from a friend's house about six blocks from her own home in the small town of McCleary.
Grays Harbor Undersheriff Rick Scott says law enforcement officers were canvassing the city Sunday. He says search and rescue volunteers and others combed the area Saturday where the girl was last seen but "didn't yield anything."
Scott says there's no evidence of foul play, but his agency is "beginning to investigate with that possibility in mind."
The girl's mother reported her missing at Friday night.
"I just need my daughter home," Melissa Baum, the girl's mother told The Aberdeen Daily World. She said she's afraid someone has taken her daughter and away from McCleary, a town of about 1,500.
McCleary Police Chief George Crumb told the newspaper that while his department hoped she ran off, "she's been gone far too long."
"This is a small town. These things don't happen. And yet here they are," Melissa McCann, a family friend told KOMO-TV. "She comes from her friend's (house) a lot, so it doesn't make sense that she didn't show up at home. We're just baffled."

McCLEARY, Wash. - The FBI is helping in the investigation into the disappearance of 10-year-old Lindsey Baum.
The McCleary girl was last seen Friday on Maple Street.
Michaela Campen is the last person known to have seen Lindsay. The girls were at Michaela's home around 9:30 Friday night, hoping Lindsay could sleep over.
"I told her you need to head home, it's getting dark soon, a half hour of light left. She put on her shoes and headed home," said Kara Campen.
Lindsay was alone for that nearly half-mile walk.
Her mother called police shortly before 11:00 Friday night to report her missing.
"We're starting to think the worst because it has been two days now, with a small town if anybody knew anything they would have said something so there's a lot of despair," said family friend Melissa McCann.
Neither the family nor investigators believe 10-year-old Lindsay ran away. They're checking ditches and byways, wondering if she fell victim to an accident, but ruling nothing out.
"The worst case scenario-she's the victim of foul play or some type of predator behavior," said Grays Harbor Undersheriff Rick Scott
Officers have contacted nearby registered sex offenders, revealing no clues. Although there is no known evidence of a crime, the FBI has now joined multiple other agencies in the investigation.
The family says Lindsay argued with her older brother earlier in the day Friday and her parents recently divorced. But the family firmly believes neither was related to her disappearance.
Anyone with information is asked to call Grays Harbor E911 Center at 360-533-8765 or McCleary Police at 360-495-3107

It just isn't safe for kids to walk 4 blocks alone. Lindsey had possibly walked those 4 blocks many times before, but it only takes one time for a child to be kidnapped.
I never let my kids walk to their friends house alone. I was petrified this would happen.
Prayers for Lindsey to come safely home.
Prayers for her family.

Faith,
That looks like a long way to me. That is 4 longggggg blocks. Look how many houses she walked by, how many streets she had to cross etc. Why are children allowed to walk that distance alone? Then be allowed to walk back home alone at night time no less.:1187603408.CR.Mothe

If the friend walked Lindsay part of the way home, that narrows the place of her vanishing closer to her home, right? Wonder if the friend walked Lindsey to the main road? Wonder if they talked to anyone?
These kind of cases scare me to death.

No it's not which is a shame, I used to do it but you can't do that anymore, just not safe, not even for an adult.
Faith,
Many years ago when I was a child, it was nothing to go outside in the summer as soon as I ate breakfast. I'd run back and forth to my cousins down the street and to a neighbors house. We could even walk to the ice cream store. Many nights after dinner a bunch of us kids would play flashlight tag.
I grew up in a simpler time, a safer time.
My kids are grown, well 2 have just turned 18, but when they were little, I was scared to let them out of my sight and I didn't. They were embarressed that I drove them a few blocks to a friends, but I didn't care.
Faith, you mention it not being safe for adults, you are so right. One of my neighbors, only 42 years old, was robbed in the KMart parking lot, at approximately 8:30 pm 2 weeks ago. People were all around her but it happened and it happened fast. The thief got her purse and a bag she had in her hand.
I only wish there was some way we could tell parents of the real dangers of kids under say 14-15 years old being out alone. It is a chance that no parent should take and so many don't understand. If people dont follow cases like we do, they may not know the risk.
My heart breaks for this child and her parents. Another 10 year old missing. :frown:

This case definitely needs more media attention.

FAITH,

Known Circumstances: Search on for missing McCleary girl
Anyone with any information is urged to contact the Grays Harbor Emergency 911 Center at 360-533-8765 or the McCleary Police Department at 360-495-3107.
If you have any information on Lindsey Baum please contact the official numbers above immediately. Alternatively, you can e-mail us here at Help Find My Child - you can do this in strictest confidence - we will make sure your information is passed on to the relevant places.

I'm sure her family or LE has logged into her myspace.
snip from up article
The friend's father, Scott Williams, said he asked Lindsey to go home before it got too dark.
"She was here 10, 15 minutes, and then, you know, we said, 'You should probably get going before it gets dark,' and that was the last we heard of her," he said.
Witnesses say Lindsey seemed normal as she headed out around 9:15. Another friend even walked her part of the way, but Lindsey never showed up at her home.
It's dark at my house by 8pm, also, in town they have street lights whereas I do not.
Sun sets in the Northwest sometime between 9:05 and 9:15. So that is dusk, and not totally nightime dark. That small town feel can give families a false sense of security, I think. This just so sad to see it happening once again. If nothing else, these young ones have to be paired up. In the daytime or at night. How awful for the whole town, but especially for Lindsey's family and the family of her friend she was visiting. No one needs to tell them that letting Lindsey walk home alone was a mistake. I think they know that.
She never made it home from her friends house.
Her friend walked her part of the way home.
She didn't have her cell phone with her which isnt too odd for a 10 year old, imo.
I don't however think 10 year olds run away. 10 is just so young.
Her father lives in another state but isn't suspected of any wrong doing.
The 2 sex offenders living near by are a great concern to me. Sure hope LE talks to them.
The mood now is adored- before that it was set to wet.

Thats true, the NW does have longer days and more daylight than many of us.
Praying she comes home soon, today.......

10 years olds are kids, little kids. It just slays me that the news reporter says something like, she's never run away before. That should never imo be the first assumption when a child goes missing. I don't think times have changed that much, have they?

Last seen by- Michaela Campen
The girls were at Michaela's home around 9:30 Friday night, hoping Lindsay could sleep over.
"I told her you need to head home, it's getting dark soon, a half hour of light left. She put on her shoes and headed home," said Kara Campen.
A friend (not identified yet) walked with her half way home.
Lindsay was alone for that nearly half-mile walk.
Her mother called police shortly before 11:00 (reported 10:50pm) Friday night to report her missing.
Officers have contacted nearby registered sex offenders, revealing no clues.
The family says Lindsay argued with her older brother earlier in the day Friday and her parents recently divorced. But the family firmly believes neither was related to her disappearance.
“I just need my daughter home,” said Melissa Baum, mother of Lindsey Baum. “Lindsey, please come home, you’re not in trouble.”
Melissa Baum said Lindsey wasn’t angry Friday night, and left without money, a change of clothes or her cellphone. Police have searched for the girl in the homes of her friends, in case she had been “hiding out.”
Baum called her daughter a “mama’s girl,” and said the two were re-reading the Harry Potter books aloud to prepare for the upcoming movie. Lindsey wanted to have her friend over to read with them, and left while it was still light out.
Melissa Baum said she is afraid someone has taken her daughter, and taken her away from McCleary.
The last person to see Lindsey was a resident driving though McCleary who saw her walking on Maple Street between Fifth and Sixth streets about 9:15 p.m. She was about halfway home, near the center of town.
Lindsey's mom and her friends dad passed a poly.

Search intensifies for missing McCleary girl
06:47 AM PDT on Monday, June 29, 2009
By KING Staff Reports
McCLEARY, Wash. - Grays Harbor sheriff's deputies intensify their search for a 10-year-old McCeary girl missing for more than two days.
Ten-year-old Lindsey Baum was last seen 9:15 p.m. Friday when she left her friend's house for a walk on Maple Street.
On Sunday, the FBI joined the search, helping the sheriff's department stop every car driving through the main part of town to see if anyone knows anything.
The sheriff's department says search teams will be back out Monday to search for Lindsey, this time enlisting the use of a helicopter. They will also bring back K-9 units because they know with more than 48 hours since Lindsey disappeared, time is of the essence.
"I just want her back. I just I need her back," said Melissa Baum, Lindsey's mother.
Lindsey's friend, Michaela Campen, is the last person known to have seen her. The girls were at Michaela's home Friday night, hoping Lindsey could sleep over.
"I told her you need to head home, it's getting dark soon, a half hour of light left. She put on her shoes and headed home," said Kara Campen, Michaela's mother.
Lindsey was alone for that nearly half-mile walk.
The family says Lindsey argued with her older brother earlier in the day Friday and her parents recently divorced. But the family firmly believes neither was related to her disappearance.
Anyone with information is asked to call Grays Harbor E911 Center at 360-533-8765 or McCleary Police at 360-495-3107.

I am so worried about this little girl, and praying she is safe. I am haunted by her remarks late in May that she had been having nightmares and feared something bad was going to happen. Perhaps this was just her unhappiness over her parents divorce creeping into her dreams. Her disappearance does not fit the pattern of a runaway (IMO). She did not take her cell phone, money, clothing, etc. Plus, she is a couple years short of the time kids normally start running away. She just disappeared on her walk home. I just hope she is found safe and returned home.

Search for missing McCleary girl gets national attention

Searchers fan out to search for Lindsey Baum, 10.
By KOMO Staff
Watch the story
MCCLEARY, Wash. - Dozens of volunteers are taking back to the streets and woods of this small Grays Harbor County town for a third day in search for a 10-year-old girl who vanished Friday while walking home from a friend's house.
They'll be joined by FBI agents who are lending their expertise and experience in solving missing children cases. The FBI also will be bringing in more law enforcement personnel to assist.
Lindsey J. Baum was last seen between 9 and 10 p.m.
Her mysterious disappearance has left police, family - along with the whole town - affled and concerned at the girl's disappearance in a town of 1,550 where everyone knows their neighbors.
The search is going national online as Lindsey's information is now on the front page of the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children web site.
A wide-ranging search was launched early Saturday in the town and the surrounding forests. The town was criss-crossed three times, but not a trace of Lindsey has been found. Even bloodhounds failed to pick up her scent.
Three times as many people joined the search on Sunday and many more were expected Monday, as they scour areas that weren't checked earlier.
Police are hesitant to call the girl's disappearance a case of foul play just yet, but the girl's family fears the worst.
"I've tried to keep the thought of somebody grabbing her out of my mind," her mother, Melissa Baum, said Sunday.
Now hope has turned to anxiety and alarm among frustrated search teams.

I wonder how far her friend walked with her. Looking at the map, she would have crossed what looks like a main road in the town. Surely someone would have noticed a child crossing that street by herself at dark....surely. I am wondering if her friend turned around before they even got to that road, and if she ever crossed it.

I was wondering about her myspace entries that said she was glad her brother was going to juvie. Was that just wishful thinking because he hit her, or what? Why would he be going to juvenille detention? Girls that age can get very upset over a fight with a sibling....especially if the sibling is older and bigger.

No telling, texanne, do we even know how old the brother is? But I don't think that hitting your little sister warrants juvenile hall, unless it was ocurring right at that moment and the police were called. This sounds more like an adjudication, or sentence kind of thing. Or maybe it is wishfull thinking? During a divorce, the single parent left with the children often times has a rough row to hoe.

Hello everyone. I am glad to have found this website helping to get the word out about Lindsey's disappearance. I wake up every morning hoping to hear she has been found safe and sound.
I live in McCleary too and I just wanted to clear up a few things. I'm not agreeing or disagreeing on what "should" have been done..it's too late for that and doesnt help Lindsey at all. I think the decisions that were made that night were ones that anyone of us could have made. McCleary is a very small town and most people know everyone. There are many families here who have lived here for generations and generations. There are always bunches of kids playing outside, riding bikes, skateboards...etc. It was not dark on Friday night until almost 10pm. The area that Lindsey was walking in was 4 blocks, two of which are commercial on one side. The police station was in sight of the main street (3rd street) that she had to cross to get to Mommsen. Keep in mind, even though it is a "main" road, it is not like the traffic you get in bigger cities like Seattle or even nearby Elma. That corner also has a busy gas station on it. I think that someone that came into the gas station may have grabbed Lindsey as she got to the wooded area to the left side of Mommsen, just past the gas station. There is also a bus station across the street from the Shell gas station. From what I have heard, LE have looked at the security tapes from the gas station. No word on what they found and we may not be told. LE have also questioned the SO's in the area..that is the first place they look and I'm sure they will keep looking.
I may be able to get pictures of the area this weekend.
I think sites like this can be very helpful if we can stay positive and stop pointing blame.:yes2:

It probably says she's 13 because that's the minimum age you have to be to have a myspace. Also, it's very common for a girl to have more than one. So maybe there are more. Or maybe she made a new one since she went missing. You never know. I just hope she's found soon.

I may be able to get pictures of the area this weekend.
I think sites like this can be very helpful if we can stay positive and stop pointing blame.:yes2:
Welcome to the board and thank you for posting.. I'm from a very small town also, about 1000 residents. It's like you are saying, it's common to see kids out everywhere playing without an adult watching them. We have a little country store that would be about 4 blocks from where I live.. it's not unusual to see kids walking or riding their bikes to the store..
Maybe it's a false sense of security because nothing ever happens in these little towns... Like you said, generations of families live there and nothing like this has ever happened.. until one day. I so totally agree with you about not pointing the blame... Thank you for bringing that to our attention.

Search for girl expands
By Rachel Thomson & Steven Friederich - The Daily World

Anice Bommerscheim | For The Daily World Tim and Sonnya Crawford, who own Grays Harbor Veterinary Services in Montesano, used bloodhounds Sunday in the search for Lindsey Baum.
McCLEARY — The search intensified today for 10-year-old Lindsey Baum who has been missing since Friday night when she failed to return home from a friend’s home just four blocks away.
Search dogs were being used this morning in marshy areas surrounding McCleary, and other areas that have been more difficult to traverse during the past two days of intense searching. A National Guard helicopter was to arrive this morning to search the area. And on Sunday, FBI agents were stopping literally every car coming in and out of town, hoping to find a lead.
So far, nothing conclusive has been found.
“It’s really frustrating to have a child disappear from such a tight-knit community but we have no evidence pointing to anything (suspicious),” Undersheriff Rick Scott said this morning. “This may very well be a criminal investigation, but we can’t rule out the possibility she might be injured or missing somewhere.”
“I have hope. As long as I stay busy I can get through it,” her mother, Melissa Baum, said this morning, surrounded by family and friends at the McCleary home.
Scott said more local residents will be interviewed today to help develop a timeline of events as the search expands into the more remote areas, including forests, creeks and drainage ditches. There are 25 law enforcement officers from various agencies who are on foot assisting the search, and 45 volunteers and search and rescue experts.
The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children carried the young girl’s picture and information on its home page for a while Sunday. She was listed in the database this morning, carrying her physical description: 4 foot, nine inches tall, 80 pounds, Caucasian skin, brown hair, brown eyes. Last seen wearing a light blue hooded pullover shirt and blue jeans.
She was walking from her friend’s house on Maple Street to her own home on Mommsen Road, a four-block distance, and was last seen at about 9:15 p.m. She was reported missing by her mother at 10:50 p.m. Scott said Lindsey appeared normal before she left the friend’s house. She had only had a bit of a sibling argument with her brother earlier.
Yesterday evening, FBI agents and local law enforcement officials stopped vehicles coming in and out of McCleary asking if anyone had seen Lindsey. The key hour is 9 p.m. to 10 p.m. Anyone who might have been driving or walking around McCleary at that time is asked to phone in to (360) 533-8765 or the McCleary Police Department at (360) 495-3107.
Police want to talk to anyone going through town at that time. Even people who don’t think they saw anything might know something relevant and it might come out when trained interviewers talk to them, Scott said.
People should not assume their information is unimportant, or that someone else may already have told police the same thing, Scott said.
Earlier Sunday, search and rescue teams went door to door and created maps of areas the 10-year-old girl might have been hiding or somehow found herself injured.
“Every one of these cases are different,” said Eric Rosenberg, spokesman for King County Search & Rescue, which was among the various agencies called in to help.
KOMO reports that searchers criss-crossed the town on Saturday three times and not even bloodhounds could pick up her scent.
No one in this town of 1,550 people is giving up hope that Lindsey will still be found alive.
“I’ve tried to keep the thought of somebody grabbing her out of my mind,” her mother, Melissa Baum told KOMO News Sunday. “If somebody does have her, I wish they would just drop her off somewhere where she can get to a pay phone and call 911 or call home, so that we can come and get her,” she added, sobbing.
“We’re just trying to hang in there and not think about the worst,” Melissa Baum’s cousin Lori Kerr told The Daily World this morning.
Tami Koethe, a cashier at a neighborhood Shell Station, said local law enforcement reviewed video as part of the search.
Koethe has a pile of fliers with the little girl’s picture on it on the counter. She’s insisting anyone who comes in leave with one.
“It’s tense but we’re hopeful we’ll find her,” Koethe said. “She’s a happy little girl. Her family came in a lot.”
Downtown, businesses displayed her picture on their doors.
All day Sunday, just about anybody who could was out in the streets handing out fliers.
Scott said the FBI was called in because the federal agency has experience dealing with missing persons cases.
The girl’s father lives in Tennessee. Scott said law enforcement officials have been in contact with him, but he has had no recent contact with his daughter.
No Amber Alert has been initiated because no one saw anyone take her.

The friends house is about 2-3 blocks from the corner of Maple and 3rd Street. The Shell station is on that corner, on the Mommsen side. If you look on your map, at the point where 3rd and Mommsen join, there is some wooded area on the "left" side of Mommsen.
The wooded area you see on Maple is too far up from the friends house.
I know it's hard to picture it if you haven't seen it. The map is pretty good, but your start point is a bit far up Maple. Hope that helps.
Welcome, Gailrene. Thank you for joining.
So, on Mommsen there is a shell station? Do you know where exactly on Maple was the home of the friend? Was it down by the woods? I am trying to vision in my mind where exactly the Shell station is.

Welcome, Gailrene.
I hope those security tapes show something that may help. Keeping positive thoughts and prayers that she will be found soon.
So do I, Packy. There is a bank across the street from the Police station which is one block north of where Mommsen and 3rd Street join. The ATM there may have a camera too. Even if the security tapes don't show Lindsey, they will show people who were in the area at the time of her disappearance...so hopefully something good will come from them.

Thanks Pauli, that is exactly what it is like here. Everyone is now being more cautious and we've lost some of our innocence.
I wanted to let you all know there will be a candle light prayer vigil for Lindsey at Beerbower Park in McCleary at 9:30pm on Tuesday, June 30th. (tomorrow) I know many of you can't attend, but maybe you could get together with your friends and neighbors at the same time and hold vigils for Lindsey as well.

Police say they need help from anyone who saw anything suspicious in or around McCleary Friday night.
"It's really important that individual realizes that they may be the one person who saw something, that to them was totally worthless, but to us is very important," said Scott.
Police urging someone to come forward is what Lindsey's mother asked for when she spoke with KING 5 News Sunday night.
"What if it was your son, or daughter, or your niece, or your nephew or mother that was missing, and there was no trace of what had happened to them, and what if I knew where there were or what if I knew some information and what if I didn't go forward and say something," she said.

Thanks Gailrene, yes, that helps me visualize better. I also saw there was an assisted living home on Maple. I saw where the police station is too. Do you know if they live in a house or an apt? I see some apts at 401 Maple which is right at 6th street.

Faith, I don't believe either of them live in an apartment. I saw the houses in the news for both Lindsey and her friend when their parents gave interviews and they appeared to be houses or duplexes possibly.
The assisted living center is the Beehive. The 6th street intersection of Maple that you spoke of is about 2 blocks west of where Lindsey would have started walking home from. I know it helps if you can get your bearings.

FBI And The National Center For Missing And Exploited Children Join Search For Missing McCleary Girl
Police Investigators First Suspected Ten-year-old Lindsey Baum Had Run Away, Instead Of Walking Home From A Friend's House Five Blocks Away Friday Evening. But Now Concern Is Growing As The Girl Remains Missing Two Days After Failing To Arrive At Home
Q13 FOX News Online
June 29, 2009
MCCLEARY - It has now been three days since anyone has seen a missing ten year old girl from the small town of Mccleary, 25 miles west of Olympia.
The FBI along with the National Center For Missing And Exploited children has now joined the search.
Lindsey Baum disappeared Friday night as she walked from a friend's house to her own home. Her mom called police when Lindsey failed to show up around 10 pm that night.
Melissa Baum talked with Q13 Fox News Monday night. She says she's hoping against hope that her little girl will be OK.
She says; "I'm trying very hard to avoid thinking about what could be. My heart tells me she's alive. I actually feel like she's alive but every hour that goes by is getting harder and harder and I feel like we're running out of time we've got to find her."
Grays Harbor County Undersheriff Richard Scott said he's not sure what happened to Baum.
"This is a girl with no means, no money, and no true opportunity to leave. We have nothing specifically that is pointing us in any direction that is going to allow us to rule out any scenario.... this may be a worst case scenario criminal investigation involving a predator or predatory behavior," Scott said.
Police officers, Sheriff's deputies and volunteers spent hours passing out fliers and looking for the girl over the weekend.
On Sunday night, the FBI and local law enforcement started stopping every car that passed through McCleary. Agents passed out flyers with the girl's picture and checked to see if the drivers were in the area Friday night and had any information on the case.
The girl's family is extremely worried and said it's hard to even think about what might have happened.
"Everybody's on eggshells and stressed and we just want to know where she is and what's going on," friend Melissa McCann told Q13 Fox News. McCann said the girl's mother has not slept since Lindsey went missing.
Throughout the weekend, searchers combed the small town door by door, leaving a flyer on every business, checking neighborhoods, then checking them again.
"We're with search and rescue and we'd like permission to search your back yard," said one volunteer as she knocked on yet another door in the neighborhood where Lindsey was last seen.
"Everybody knows everybody's business and we'd have expected that if she was still in town. Somebody would have notified us and we haven't had that, unfortunately," says Dave Pimentel, Deputy Chief of the Grays Harbor Sheriff's Office.
Lindsey Baum was visiting her friend Michaela Kampen Friday night. Michaela's mother Kara Kampen says it started getting late and she sent Lindsey home.
"They had asked to spend the night and we had plans and we said 'not tonight' so she headed home," says Kampen. "It's reality check for all parents that this could happen in McCleary of all places."
Lindsey's mother called 911 and searchers hit the streets, combing the five-block walk to Lindsey's home.
The small logging community of McCleary is now united by a single cause: finding a missing child.
"I have children also and if my child came up missing I'd want somebody to help me," said Timothy Day, who came to the McCleary police station and volunteered to help with the search.
It's help McCleary police desperately need.
"They only have three officers in the department, including the chief," said Pimentel.
The Grays Harbor Sheriff's Office is backing up McCleary police and right now they're confident in their efforts.
The McCleary police chief has decided against issuing an Amber Alert for the girl.
"We checked the state criteria and it just didn't meet it," explains George Crumb, McCleary's Chief of Police.
Although investigators are not calling Lindsey a runaway, not even the girl's family has ruled out the possibility.
Lindsey is 4'9" tall and 80 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes. She was last seen wearing a gray sweatshirt with blue jeans and black shoes.
If you can help in this case, call the Grays Harbor 911 center at 1-800-281-6944.

Search ramps up for McCleary girl
08:01 AM PDT on Tuesday, June 30, 2009
McCLEARY, Wash. - Authorities in Grays Harbor county are ramping up efforts to find a 10-year-old Western Washington girl missing since last week.
Washington State Patrol plans to utilize a fixed wing airplane with a camera to aid in the search for Lindsey Baum, last seen 9:15 p.m. Friday when she left her friend's house to walk home in McCleary.
Crews plan to focus their air search on rural areas of McCleary where kids have been known to play. The camera will be able to take live and infrared pictures of the brushy area.
Grays Harbor sheriff's deputies viewed surveillance video from a Shell gas station, where Lindsey would have walked past on her way home, but police found no signs of her.
................
Several agencies have joined the search for Lindsey Baum. Over the weekend, FBI agents stopped every car driving through the main part of town to question people. On Monday, Air National Guard helicopters searched the town and the woods surrounding McCleary, and divers searched creeks and ponds.
On Tuesday, Washington State Patrol crews plan to bring in search dogs and their search and rescue teams.
............
Lindsey's father lives in Tennessee. He's been in touch with police and is not considered a suspect.
Police have ruled out all family members as suspects.
Anyone with information is asked to call the hotline that has been set up. The number is 1-866-915-8299

Mother Believes Missing Daughter Was Abducted
Posted: 7:32 am PDT June 30, 2009
MCCLEARY, Wash. -- The mother of a missing 10-year-old girl said she believes her daughter was abducted when she walked home last Friday night.
A National Guard helicopter joined the search Monday for Lindsey Baum who vanished when she was in downtown McCleary between 8:30 p.m. and 10 p.m. Friday, while walking home from a friend’s house.
“Each hour that goes by, I am starting to get more and more panicky,” said Baum’s mother, Melissa Baum.
Lindsey wanted to spend the night at a friend’s house about six blocks from her own home, but her friend’s mother, Kara Kampen, told her no.
“I told her no you can't spend the night. If I had said yes you can stay the night, she'd be home now,” Kampen said.
Investigators monitored Lindsey Baum’s MySpace page for any clues but said the account has been inactive since she vanished and she left no posts indicating she was planning to leave.
"There was nothing that indicated any preplanned intention for her to run away or go anywhere," said Grays Harbor County Undersheriff Rick Scott.
Searching the Wildcat Creeks on Monday, the Thurston County Sheriff's Office dive team didn’t find any signs of the missing girl. Other officers took the contents out of Dumpsters making sure nothing goes unsearched.
"With the time that's passed now, it doesn't look good," Scott said.
Searchers said the route Lindsey would have taken from her friend's home to her own home is short and direct. Police said the girl was unlikely to get lost.
“We're convinced somebody took her," Melissa Baum said.
Scott said his department is not yet ready to conclude that Lindsey was abducted because there is no evidence to indicate that's what occurred.
On Sunday, police and FBI stopped cars traveling through town hoping to find anyone who may have seen something.
Police said the key to finding the 10-year-old girl may lie with anyone who saw the girl as she walked home in the small town of McCleary.
“I know she's alive. I know some people are thinking I'm crazy, but I feel it in my heart that she is still alive,” Baum said.
Volunteers have been handing out fliers to motorists and circulating them throughout the county. Search and rescue teams will still search throughout Monday night and continue to knock on doors.

Oh, that poor mother. She is dealing with every mom's worst nightmare. On top of that is the guilt she is imposing on herself for not saying yes to her daughter spending the night. I hope someone counsels her so she understands that she has no guilt, but feeling that is normal. I wish they had brought in the tracking dogs immediately, so they could see where her trail stops. I keep wondering how far her friend walked with her. Another thing...the nearby communities should be looking also. The mom has a feeling her daughter is not in McCleary....and a mother just has those feelings sometimes. I pray for the safe return of this child.

I agree with you , Texanne...mothers know things in their heart about their children. I don't think Lindsey is in McCleary either. People often stop here to get gas on their way to Ocean Shores, Forks or even to take 101 south to Oregon and California because it is scenic. I think someone who was at the Shell station to get gas, left by the by the back exit of the station onto Mommsen road and saw Lindsey and grabbed her. That area is sparsley populated compared to the rest of her route and I doubt if the security camera shows the back of the station. I could be wrong but knowing the area and the route she supposedly took, that is the most likely point.
That's why I think it is so important to get her story and picture out as soon as possible.

I guess I read the thread over so many times, that I was confused who made what statement. She should not feel any guilt, either. No matter what happens, it is normal to place blame on yourself when these things happen. It is our mind's way of saying "what could I have done differently to keep this from happening?" The only person who is to blame is the person who took the child. All the rest is second guessing.

Massive search continues for missing McCleary girl
MCCLEARY: No leads days after 10-year-old vanished
Published: 06/30/09 1:09 am
Updated: 06/30/09 7:14 am
MCCLEARY – Police in this community of about 1,500 had no leads Monday on what happened to 10-year-old Lindsey Baum after she left her friend’s house on Maple Street by herself Friday evening to walk about a half-mile to her home on Mommsen Road.
On the third day of a massive search for the girl, a National Guard helicopter and a team of about 20 search-and-rescue officials, including dog teams, scoured the town. Members of the Thurston County Sheriff’s Dive Team also joined the search, looking in creeks and ponds, to no avail.
The mother of Lindsey’s 10-year-old best friend said Lindsey’s disappearance hasn’t really sunk in for her daughter.
“I don’t think she quite understands the seriousness of it,” said Kara Kempen on Monday in front of her home.
The last person to see Lindsey was a resident driving through town who saw her walking on Maple Street between Fifth and Sixth streets around 9:15 p.m. – about the halfway point between the two homes, Scott said. People said light was waning but the sun hadn’t gone down.
Lindsey was wearing a gray or blue hooded pullover shirt and blue jeans. Investigators have reviewed surveillance video from the downtown Shell Station that Lindsey would have walked by on the way to Mommsen Road, but it turned up nothing, Scott said. Detectives are waiting for additional video surveillance from local businesses.
LOOKING BACK
Lindsey left her cell phone at home before leaving to play with friends Friday, said Grays Harbor Undersheriff Rick Scott. Lindsey’s older brother had left the Maple Street residence before his sister after the two had a dispute over the bike Lindsey had borrowed from him that day – a common occurrence between frequently squabbling siblings, Scott added.
Kempen said her daughter Michaela had spent Friday with Lindsey and a group of other girls, swimming at a friend’s pool before they returned to the home on Maple Street. Kempen said her daughter and Lindsey were “almost inseparable” and loved to spend time together talking about “10-year-old girl stuff, boys and music, school occasionally.”
Kempen described Lindsey as a “chatterbox.” “She’s very, very talkative,” Kempen said. “One of those girls who only takes a breath when she absolutely has to.”
Linda Cunningham, owner of McCleary Video, said she remembers Lindsey coming into her store with a group of friends to rent movies around 8:15 Friday night. “They were all laughing and joking and having a good time.”
Cunningham called Lindsey “a smart little girl.”
“I just don’t see her willingly getting in a stranger’s car,” Cunningham said. “She’s too smart for that.”
WHAT’S NEXT
Sgt. Jim Dunn of the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office said Monday afternoon that there are still bodies of water that the dive team has not checked, including swamps southwest of town.
Scott said 25 law enforcement officers, including the agents from Seattle, were participating in the investigation.
Scott said investigators can’t rule out the possibility that Baum was abducted, or that she may have simply run off. He said investigators are desperately trying to find information that can narrow their search. “We don’t have a most-likely scenario at this point,” he said.
SEARCH SO FAR
At the command center Monday at the McCleary Police Department, a binder of mugshots belonging to Grays Harbor sex offenders was earmarked with pieces of paper to show offenders with a registered address in McCleary. A sheet of citizen interviews from a neighborhood canvass was stacked on the counter.
Scott said investigators are still following up by interviewing not only sex offenders who live in town, but transient sex offenders and offenders who have connections to McCleary. So far none of those interviews has yielded any concrete leads, he said.
Investigators have taken Lindsey’s computer into evidence, Scott added. Police have checked her MySpace page and the phone numbers she dialed and received on her cell phone without finding any new leads, he said.
A search of Lindsey’s MySpace page showed only the typical postings of a 10-year-old girl, things that showed her affinity for the movie “Twilight,” Scott said.
“Lindsey’s a very outgoing, very independent girl,” Scott said. “She’s socially active in her peer group.”
Scott said detectives have contacted Lindsey’s father in Tennesee, and there are no custodial issues between him and Lindsey’s mother, Melissa Baum. There is no reason to believe he had anything to do with Lindsey’s disappearance, Scott said.
Lindsey turns 11 on July 7, Scott said.
Police did not issue an Amber Alert for Lindsey after her mother reported her missing at 10:50 p.m. Friday, Scott said. Scott said an Amber Alert wasn’t issued because police had – and still have – no evidence that she was abducted.
The search for Lindsey continues today, Scott said. “We’ve been working everybody until the early evenings to the point of exhaustion,” Scott added.
Scott said “there hasn’t been a case like this for years anywhere in the county.”
Melissa Fulton, a McCleary hair stylist, said many local residents feel comfortable letting their children play outside or ride bikes around town until dark.
Said Cunningham at the DVD rental store, “I think that’s changed today. As of now I just think everybody’s had the biggest rude awakening of their lives.”

MCCLEARY, Wash. -- The search effort to find a 10-year-old girl in the South Sound town of McCleary is doubling Tuesday.
Lindsey Baum disappeared Friday night while walking home at about 9 p.m.
A field operations vehicle arrived at the McCleary Police Department in Grays Harbor County Tuesday morning as crews prepared to resume the search.
Undersheriff Rick Scott said ground search crews will focus on specific areas on the outskirts of town, such as brushy areas that children are known to frequent. It's possible a child could become tangled in heavy brush, he said.
In addition, the number of people searching Tuesday will double and a Washington State Patrol fixed-wing aircraft equipped with a FLIR will assist in the effort.
Since Friday, police and FBI agents have been stopping cars, volunteers handed out fliers and Thurston County dive teams have searched local creeks. Other officers took the contents out Dumpsters looking for clues.
On Monday, K-9 units, search volunteers, police and a helicopter looked all day for the girl but found no sign of her.
Dive teams will continue to search small ponds and lakes Tuesday.
On Monday, Lindsey's mother, Melissa Baum, said she believes her daughter was abducted as she walked home.
“Each hour that goes by, I am starting to get more and more panicky,” said Baum. She said Lindsey wanted to spend the night at a friend’s house about six blocks from her own home, but her friend’s mother, Kara Kampen, told her no.
“We're convinced somebody took her," Baum said.
Scott said his department is not yet ready to conclude that Lindsey was abducted because there is no evidence to indicate that's what occurred.
Meanwhile, candlelight prayer vigils will be held Tuesday night in both McCleary and a neighboring town, Elma.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Grays Harbor Sheriff’s Office at 1-866-915-8299 or send an e-mail to: soadmin@co.grays-harbor.wa.us.

Intensive search for missing McCleary girl
The Associated Press
McCLEARY, Wash. An intensive search continues in the Grays Harbor County town of McCleary for a 10-year-old girl who disappeared Friday night while walking home from a friend's house.
The mother of Lindsey Baum, Melissa Baum, fears her daughter was abducted.
The sheriff's office says it has no evidence of a crime or that the girl ran away. Undersheriff Rick Scott says it's frustrating to have no clues.
Dozens of searchers have been combing the area with the help of dogs and a helicopter.
Lindsey is 4 foot-9, 80 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes, last seen wearing a light blue hooded pullover shirt and blue jeans.
The girl’s father lives in Tennessee but he has had no recent contact with his daughter.

MCCLEARY, Wash. -- As the search for a missing 10-year-old girl stretched into its fourth day Tuesday, more reinforcements were being brought in to assist.
The State Patrol will be flying a search pattern over the general McCleary area, scanning the ground with a heat-sensing camera. The video will be fed live back to the ground where officials can see the results in real-time.
Cadets from the Civil Air Patrol are also joining the growing search party for Lindsey Baum, who disappeared while walking home on Friday.
Lindsey Baum was last seen between 9 and 10 p.m.
Her mysterious disappearance has left police, family - along with the whole town - baffled and concerned at the girl's disappearance in a town of 1,550 where everyone knows their neighbors.
Deputies say for those outside the area wanting to help, it's difficult to find things for them to do, but police do have this message for those who live in the area:
"The biggest thing to get the message to check their areas around their home get their neighbors involved in checking the areas around the houses," said Lt. David Porter with the Grays Harbor Sheriff's department.
He added that if anyone saw anything around that area Friday evening -- even something that might seem trivial -- to go ahead and give deputies a call. A tip line has been set up at 1-866-915-8299.
Meanwhile, friends and family members have planned a prayer vigil for Tuesday at 9:30 p.m. at Beerbauer Park.

I've tried to remember what Clint Van Zant (sp?) says about how far/close they are usually found. If it is 300 yards, 3 miles? I was thinking 300 yards. That is not everytime, I know.

Where is Lindsey Baum? Police, FBI Search for 10-Year-Old
Girl's Mother Frantic After Lindsey Never Made it Home From a Friend's House
By SARAH NETTER
June 30, 2009
It was a route Lindsey Baum had taken many times -- a 10-minute walk down a densely populated suburban street between her house and a friend's.
Police and FBI have been searching for 10-year-old Lindsey Baum who disappeared Friday night while walking home in McCreary, Wash.
(ABC News)But on Friday evening, the McCleary, Wash., 10-year-old left her friend's house for home and disappeared somewhere along the way.
"I think somebody took her," Melissa Baum said of her daughter, who was ready to enter the sixth grade in the fall. "I'm trying to constantly push away the bad thoughts."
Grays Harbor County Undersheriff Rick Scott said search efforts have escalated in the days since Lindsey's been missing from volunteers on foot -- still the most common tactic used -- to scent dogs, horses, all-terrain vehicles and helicopters.
"We're not ready to give up hope," Scott told ABCNews.com.
Baum said she last saw her daughter when Lindsey, along with her 12-year-old brother, Josh, headed out to Lindsey's friend's house in hopes she could get permission to spend the night at the Baum's house.
Baum said her children began squabbling over the use of Josh's bike on the way there and were stopped by a family friend who sent Josh home to end the argument. Lindsey continued on to her friend's house. When Lindsey's friend found out she couldn't stay the night, Lindsey headed for home around 9:30 p.m.
"When she wasn't home by 10, I started to get nervous," Baum said, adding that 10 p.m. is the curfew for her children.
She began calling Lindsey's cell phone, only to find that her daughter had left it plugged into the charger. Initially thinking that her daughter must have met up with friends in the neighborhood, Baum set out on foot to find her daughter.
But there was no sign of her. Eventually, her friend's parents joined the search by car. Baum even let her daughter's beloved German shepherd Kadence off its leash in hopes the dog would help find her. Finally, around 10:45 p.m., Baum said she called the police.
Baum described her daughter as outgoing, talkative and mature for her age. She loved to read and write and had big plans for her future.
"She insisted when she grows up she's going to be an author and an illustrator and a veterinarian," Baum said.
Police Search With Dogs, Check In on Sex Offenders
Scott said that, with the FBI's expertise with missing children, authorities have been conducting a simultaneous search and rescue operation with a criminal investigation, hoping to find leads.
The latter includes checking up on the resident and transient sex offenders in McCleary and neighboring communities and reviewing surveillance videos.
Scott said that there were a few businesses located just off the street Lindsey would have used to get home, and while the little girl did not appear in any of the videos, police have received clues about who was in the area at the time she disappeared.
Scott said witnesses were able to put Lindsey within a couple of blocks of her house just after 9:30 p.m. The last person reported to have seen her, he said, was a neighbor on her way to work.
Authorities had initially looked at the case as a possible runaway, but Scott admitted that "it's becoming less likely as time goes on."
Baum said she knows her daughter would not run away. She had been upset about her parents finalizing their divorce in April but had known it was coming, Baum said.
And Lindsey knew better than to go somewhere with a stranger -- it was something they had talked about previously.
"I think she's alive," Baum said. "I really and truly feel that strongly in my heart."
Baum said she and Lindsey had been planning to celebrate her upcoming July 7 birthday by going with a group of friends to the new "Harry Potter" movie a few days later.
Instead, the family is now trying to cope with a life without Lindsey. Baum said her son Josh is racked by guilt that he argued with his sister and left her to visit her friend on her own. And even Kadence is suffering the loss of a friend, refusing to eat normally.
Baum said she's baffled that no one has reported seeing anything the night Lindsey disappeared, unusual, since the street she took home is lined with homes.
"If we can find her," she said, "we can work through anything."

I wonder if they brought in bloodhounds. They can pick up a cold trail better than other dogs. I know they said K-9 units are being used....but was not sure what type dogs. Surely someone has some bloodhounds they can bring in.

Mother of Missing Washington Girl Begs Those With Information to Come Forward
The mother of a 10-year-old Washington state girl who vanished over the weekend pleaded for those who might have seen anything out of the ordinary to come forward.
Meanwhile, the search for Lindsey Baum, last seen walking from a friend's house six blocks away from her home in McCleary Friday night, expanded on Tuesday.
Her mother, Melissa Baum, said on FOX News that "if anyone has seen or heard anything — any little thing that they saw and thought, hmm, that's kind of odd," they should call police immediately.
Baum said she's worried her daughter was kidnapped.
"They have informed me that they are expanding the search," she told FOX. "At this point, it's being treated as an abduction."
FBI agents have joined the hunt for Lindsey. Grays Harbor County Undersheriff Rick Scott confirmed Tuesday that the search for the missing girl is widening.
Scott told KXRO that several tips have been received and investigators would like to talk to anyone who may have seen anything suspicious in McCleary, a tiny town of only about 1,500, between the hours of 8:30 p.m. and 10 p.m. Friday when Lindsey failed to return home.
Lindsey has been upset over her parents' ongoing divorce and may have run away.
Baum said the child's father was 3,000 miles away when she disappeared.
Authorities canvassed the city Saturday and Sunday but didn't find any clues, according to Scott.
He said there is no evidence of foul play, but his agency is "beginning to investigate with that possibility in mind."
McCleary Police Chief George Crumb told The Aberdeen Daily World that while his department hoped Lindsey ran off, "she's been gone far too long."
Baum reported her daughter missing about 10 p.m. Friday.
Neighbors and friends say the whole town is on edge.
"I'm starting to think the worst because it has been two days now and it is a small town and somebody would have said something," family friend Melissa McCann said earlier this week.
Dozens of searchers have been combing the area with the help of dogs and a helicopter.
Lindsey is 4 feet 9 inches tall, weighs 80 pounds and has brown hair and brown eyes. She was last seen wearing a light blue hooded pullover shirt and blue jeans.
Anyone with any information is asked to call the Grays Harbor Emergency 911 Center at (360) 533-8765.

Oh my, I didn't realize Lindsey's home was surrounded by hills and rolling and mountainous terraine. That made my heart sink. I pray this child is found safe and brought home today.
Anyone heard if the friend Lindsey was visiting, mentioned Lindsey's mood that night?
Was she upset, depressed? Did she mention talking to people on the internet via facebook, im ing etc.
( Only my 2 cents but I just don't understand 10 year old kids having facebooks. Pedophiles watch for exactly that type thing.)

Texanne, I believe bloodhounds were the first dogs brought in. I remember seeing a news article that said a local vet brought them in.
I wanted to update you all on a few things that should help answer some of your questions. I spoke with the clerk at the Shell station and she verified the security cameras do not point at the back of the station. They are mainly pointed at an angle to get license numbers in case someone drives off without paying. That should still be helpful to LE in getting information on who was in the area Lindsey disappeared from. Through eye witnesses, it has been narrowed down to that last 2 blocks between the Shell station and her home.
I spoke with a friend who sees Lindsey's brother Josh (12 yrs old) at her home frequently and she verified that he does have some emotional issues, but he's basically a good kid and she firmly believes he isn't responsible for his sister's disappearance. This friend is no bleeding heart either, she's worked in the industry with SO's and she's very savy to the behavior. She would not have Josh around her own children if she thought for one second that he might hurt one of them. You can all make your own opinions of that, just giving you all the information.
There was also a report that someone may have spotted her on Sunday up in Capital Forest, which is a few miles East of McCleary on Highway 8. There is a big ORV park there and miles and miles of roads and trails frequented by dirtbikes, four wheelers and quads. Search and Rescue is going to start searching that area.

Naia, McCleary is a logging community built primarily to provide housing for people working at the Simpson Mill. It is mostly populated by people who's families have lived here for generations or commuters who work in Olympia or other larger cities.
About Lindsey's mood, it was reported in many news articles that she seemed "normal" the last time anyone saw her and did not seem upset.
There are quite a few people in town who think she may have been abducted or left willingly with someone she met on Myspace. The Twilght themed Myspace was mentioned in one article and it said LE found nothing out of the ordinary on it. They may be aware that she had more than one, but are not releasing that to the news.

I recall that article about the bloodhounds, Gailrene.
I find it very odd for Lindsey to wonder off especially that late at night. I believe she was walking home and "something happened", kidnapped is my guess.
If it's been narrowed to the shell station and her home which is a very short distance, something is strange then. Likely she was snatched at the Shell station.
Thank you hun for updating us. My prayers are with Lindsey's safe return and her mom, family and all of the community.

Thanks Gailrene for all your info.
I would think LE has examined her computer forensically.
And the Myspace idea does not add up for me at all.
Her intentions were to spend the night with her friend - not meet up with someone. Besides she had nothing with her. So, IMO that theory hold alot of weight.
Praying for Lindsey and her family!

Naia,
>>snip from up article<<
Investigators have taken Lindsey’s computer into evidence, Scott added. Police have checked her MySpace page and the phone numbers she dialed and received on her cell phone without finding any new leads, he said.
A search of Lindsey’s MySpace page showed only the typical postings of a 10-year-old girl, things that showed her affinity for the movie “Twilight,” Scott said.
“Lindsey’s a very outgoing, very independent girl,” Scott said. “She’s socially active in her peer group.”

I agree, this is every mother's worst nightmare. As if i wasn't protective enough of my kids...now I'm even more so.
I too believe that she was grabbed by someone who just happened to see her at the wrong place at the wrong time and I think it happened between the Shell station and her home and I feel (no proof) that it was someone in an Rv type vehicle. We see those coming and going all the time because campers on their way to the beach stop in to get gas, so not much attention is paid to them. We all assume they are driven by older retired couples or families.
I am glad that you guys are out here helping to spread the word. I think it's important to try and help answer your questions because I believe that the more minds we have working on finding Lindsey, the better. Any one of you could think of something that no one else thought of and that could be helpful.
I sure hope she is found before her birthday. It'll be not only awful for Lindsey, but for her family. I work at a hotel and I am always on the look out for the missing kds/people. This site is so wonderful. I hope it helps in this case. My mom also has a condy machine business and we put up missing children pictures and donate to the cause. So this and many others are circulating around maryland.
--Btw, thanks for welcoming me, Faith.
Looks like the Shell station is the only business on that stretch of road, right?
Are there any 7/11s, fast food places near by? I'm wondering if an abductor sat in a car somewhere, a place where he/she wouldn't look out of place.

From my post #96
The last person to see Lindsey was a resident driving through town who saw her walking on Maple Street between Fifth and Sixth streets around 9:15 p.m. – about the halfway point between the two homes, Scott said. People said light was waning but the sun hadn’t gone down.

If you are referring to the stretch of road past 3rd and where Mommsen begins, then yes, that is the only business on that stretch of road.
That area is kind of weird in the way the streets run and the different directions the buildings and homes face. The town is very small. There are no 7-11's, McDonalds, etc. There is a Subway a block away on Simpson Avenue, but it and almost everything else was closed at that time except the two gas stations and the local bar which is in the same area as the Subway. The town has no stop lights, to give you an idea of how small it is.
I could be wrong, but I think whoever took Lindsey just happened to see her walking behind the gas station on Mommsen as they were pulling out. Most predators get their victims by chance, crimes of opportunity. Wrong place at the wrong time.

That is what keeps confusing me. If the area between 5th and 6th street is "halfway" between both houses, that would put the distance Lindsey walked at well over 6 blocks- closer to 8 blocks, if you look at the map posted on this site. 5th and 6th streets are west of where Lindsey's friends house would be if she lived 4 blocks away.:0009:

No, just that from Grande's post #101 we know it was a woman.
Scott said witnesses were able to put Lindsey within a couple of blocks of her house just after 9:30 p.m. The last person reported to have seen her, he said, was a neighbor on her way to work.

There is a nursing home on the corner of , IIRC, 6th st called the Beehive.
I'm not 100% sure but it may be a business on W Maple, down by 3rd, searching businesses last night showed me there were some.

Anna, the problem is, I do not have the address where the friend lives or I could make an accurate map.
Also, I cannot get a Birds Eye view and I can't see very well and, no telling how old the map is.

I hope they are running down every license plate that was at the service station. Someone could have seen her crossing the road as they were stopped for gas. All they had to do was pull to the back of the service station and grab her as she started up her own street. The camera would probably show them leaving the pump, but not which way they turned. Since it was an unplanned walk, she was spotted by someone who had not planned ahead.

Thanks Amanda, I have made so many maps. I do not know the address of the friends house. However, tonight on NG the lady was talking and she said, I am between where she was at and where she was going. Her address was 647 Maple. That would put the friends house closer to the wooded area.
I'm sure LE has searched the wooded area.

texanne, me too, and in addition checking sales if anyone used a credit card.
Gailrene,
Thank you! That is exactly the stretch of road I was referring too. I keep going back and forth between her being abducted like you described or by someone who may have watched Lindsey and ehr girlfriend walk back and forth between each others house.
Gailrene, have you heard how Lindsay's mom is doing? I can't imagine the pain and worry that must be surrounding her. This IS truly every mother's nightmare.
Thank you for being the hometown reporter so to speak. Under terrible circumstances, I've enjoyed reading your informative post.

From my post #96
The last person to see Lindsey was a resident driving through town who saw her walking on Maple Street between Fifth and Sixth streets around 9:15 p.m. – about the halfway point between the two homes, Scott said. People said light was waning but the sun hadn’t gone down.
I wonder about the person that supposedly walked her half way?
I wonder about the person that supposedly walked her half way?
Glad you said that because I was afraid too.
Also, if Lindsey was abducted across the street from the nursing home, does the nursing home have cameras in the parking lot?

I don't think they ever made it clear exactly who that friend was. Was it her bff that she wanted to stay the night with or someone else?

Thanks Naia...I'm just hoping that maybe one of you will think of something that hasn't been considered yet. I will try and get pictures of that area this weekend so you can see the layout of the street and blocks she was on.
The differing reports on where she was last seen and how far she was from home are confusing as heck.
I'm off to the candle light vigil now...keep Lindsey and her family in your prayers.

State Patrol plane helps search McCleary for missing girl
A Washington State Patrol airplane was used Tuesday in the search for 10-year-old Lindsey Baum, who disappeared Friday night, said Grays Harbor County Undersheriff Rick Scott.
Baum disappeared after she embarked alone on a half-mile walk from a friend’s home on Maple Street to her home on Mommsen Road.
Scott said investigators don’t have concrete evidence that she was abducted.
About 30 ground searchers and 30 law enforcement officials were involved in the search Tuesday, he said.
Anyone with information about Baum’s disappearance is asked to call the Grays Harbor County 9-1-1 center at 360-533-8765.

McCleary’s still searching
By Steven Friederich - The Daily World
Tuesday, June 30, 2009 11:49 AM PDT
http://i42.tinypic.com/24b3jwo.jpg
STEVEN FRIEDERICH | THE DAILY WORLD Melissa Baum talks to a television reporter in front of her home while waiting for news on her 10-year-old daughter Lindsey, who disappeared Friday and has yet to be found despite a massive search. Next to her is Lindsey’s 9-year-old cousin Kimberly Taylor. “I know she’s alive,” Kimberly said. “I just know it.” Below, Undersheriff Rick Scott gives an afternoon update on the search Monday.
The mother of a 10-year-old who has been missing since Friday night says she believes her daughter is alive, but she has come to believe that someone took the girl and that she is no longer in the McCleary area.
“I don’t think she’s in McCleary. I don’t,” said Melissa Baum, mother of 10-year-old Lindsey Baum. “Why would they keep her in McCleary? Whoever took her, went on the freeway. There are three ways to get out of McCleary and all three ways there are freeways within five or 10 minutes.”
But Melissa Baum’s hope remains strong. “I think she’s still alive. I feel it in my heart that she’s alive,” the mother said. “I’m just trying really hard not to focus on the other things so I don’t fall apart. Because I know in my heart she’s still alive. But every hour that goes by, I just keep getting more and more anxious because how much time do we have left? …
“And I just wish, I’m begging whoever had her will take her to a gas station or a grocery store or a restaurant where she can go to a pay phone and call 911 and say ‘I’m Lindsey Baum’ so we can trace her and find her. Just let her go. Give her a chance. Let her come home.”
As the intense search for the girl entered its fourth day this morning, Grays Harbor County Undersheriff Rick Scott says the evidence is pointing more and more to an abduction scenario, but he has no proof one way or another and will not call off the continuing search of hard-to-get-to brush and waterways.
“The search continues this morning,” he said.
A Thurston County dive team was called in yesterday to search creeks and swamps. They’ll be back this morning. A National Guard helicopter took high-resolution aerial photos, which were being examined in great detail this morning. A State Patrol airplane was to begin helping this morning.
More FBI agents also arrived Thursday to help with the search.
Tonight, two candlelight vigils are scheduled. At 9 p.m., a vigil will be held at the 10th Street Ballpark in Elma. A second “candlelight community prayer gathering” will be at 9:30 p.m. tonight at Beerbower Park in McCleary.
Family friend Melissa McCann said those who have wanted to volunteer but have not been used should show their support by attending either vigil. The family has also set up an account at Timberland Bank to help cover its expenses. The account is in Lindsey’s name. Letters or cards to the family can be sent to Box 1124, Elma, WA 98541.
Scott said detectives have received one key tip. Shortly before the girl disappeared, there was a sighting of her by a neighbor who was heading to work.
Lindsey was leaving a friend’s house about four blocks away between 9 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. Friday, traveling from Maple Street to Mommsen Road. Scott said a neighbor spotted her “two-thirds of the way home,” still on Maple Street.
“We have her coming back from the residence alone consistent with the friend and friend’s family,” Scott said. “We cannot put her to the main street here or to the street in front of her house. This wasn’t somebody who said she saw someone who looks like (Lindsey) or might have been; she was very confident it was Lindsey because she knew her and was on her way to work.”
The “main street” is South 3rd Street and it is a busy thoroughfare near City Hall, connecting to freeways in multiple directions. The police station is within sight of the intersection. The street requires a crosswalk and pedestrian control walking signals. On Friday, the streets were lighted. The sun was still out.
There is a Shell gas station at the intersection and a bus station with a bench that looked like it was in regular use at least on Monday. Scott said video surveillance at the Shell station are being reviewed.
If anyone was waiting to board a bus between 9 p.m. and 10 p.m., buying something at a local business or driving through the City of McCleary at that time, they should call the tip line immediately. Someone might have seen a car of interest and not even known what they saw until asked questions by investigators, Scott said.
The free tip line is 866-915-8299 or e-mail soadmin@co.grays-harbor.wa.us.
“She wasn’t intentionally supposed to be alone,” Melissa Baum said. “She was with a friend and was supposed to come back together. And it was a fluke because normally she would have her cell phone with her. She takes her cell phone everywhere.”
But the cell phone battery was dead and she plugged it in five minutes before leaving.
Scott said investigators have gone door to door and are looking for everyone who may have been home along Maple Street and Mommsen Road. Even if neighbors weren’t home, Scott said he wants to know where they were.
Scott said investigators have touched base or are touching base with the half dozen or so registered sex offenders in the McCleary area.
“We’re not just looking for the sex offenders who live in the City of McCleary but those sex offenders considered transient and have not provided a permanent address and those who have ties to east Grays Harbor,” he said.
Investigators have searched Lindsey’s computer, her e-mail and MySpace pages but have found nothing suspicious and no messages that she intended to run away.
Investigators combed cell phone records and have found nothing.
“We’re ready and waiting,” Scott said. “We just need that specific information that will point us in the right direction. Absent that evidence we’re just having to be comprehensive throughout. We’re having to look at it as a missing, lost or runaway child. But we’re also having to now focus that this may be a worst case scenario with a predator or someone with a predatory motive.”
Just about everyone who could was out on the streets of McCleary or in the hills calling Lindsey’s name.
Stephanie Ross of Aberdeen plastered a poster with Lindsey’s face on the back of her black shirt and spelled out her name in giant letters on the front.
“I have a 13 year old daughter and if this happened with her I would hope the community would come out and do what they could to find her,” Ross said.
Julie Culbert, of Aberdeen, said she had wanted to volunteer to help find Lindsey. When she wasn’t needed, she went “out into the boonies” on her own.
“We’ve been out through all of the hills, the logging roads, we’ve been out, way out there,” Culbert said.
Just about any tip was being accepted. A bus driver with Grays Harbor Transit stopped by the operations center to mention a suspicious vehicle he had seen.
Dan Simmons of Elma stopped by to give a tip that he saw a girl who looked like Lindsey in Costco. He wasn’t sure exactly.
“But it’s been on my mind ever since,” Simmons said.
Scott said he’s not sure how many unofficial searchers there are, but he’s sure there are plenty.
In Aberdeen, at the new Backstage Espresso store on I Street, signs of Lindsey are on the door. At the historic Courthouse in Montesano, there are signs with her photo. All over McCleary, the signs dominate, with volunteers stopped people in traffic handing out fliers.
Scott said his official search team consists of 25 to 30 law enforcement officers and 45 search and rescue experts with German shepherds, blood hounds, dive tanks and special gear.
At this point, Melissa Baum said she’s so desperate for information that she’s turning to a psychic for answers.
“The psychic knows my aunt and wanted to help,” Baum said.
Lindsey turns 11 years old on July 7. The whole family wants her home for her birthday.
“This isn’t supposed to happen to me,” Baum said. “This doesn’t happen. I know it’s not my fault. But I feel guilty. Why didn’t I automatically go with her? My 12-year-old son thinks it’s his fault because they had a minor argument. But it all falls on the person who took her.”

I am familiar with logging areas. There are what we refer to as logging roads leading into the forests. I hope they are forming teams to go along the logging roads, one by one to search the areas near them. I realize this is a massive undertaking. I just feel that if there was an unplanned abduction, the predator would have turned onto a logging road. Of course if this is just a mill area, and logging does not take place in the vacinity then my theory blows up.

You are correct, Texanne, this is a logging area and the Capital Forest I mentioned before is criss crossed with logging roads as well as ORV trails. I had heard from a friend who works at the ORV park that someone thinks they saw Lindsey on one of the trails in Capital Forest on Saturday wearing a pink floral bathing suit and with a man on a quad or 3 wheeler. My friend said they've been doing searches in that area and checking every vehicle coming in and out as best they can.

There have been several articles in the news quoting LE with having checked with the RSO's registered as living in the area as well as transients in the outlying area. From what I understand, this "checking" may be ongoing..as in more than one visit. That's nearly always the first thing LE look at, that is why we have the law requiring them to register. It would be wonderful if they all had GPS anklets, but I don't think that is the case here.
I should also add, that search and rescue did a door to door search of the homes in the area Lindsey disappeared at least once and possibly twice. They were shown on the news asking to check people's back yards, sheds, etc..any place a child could hide.

I just wanted to thank you all for staying focused on helping to find Lindsey. Alot of the other boards are rife with negativity and finger pointing. We all know none of that will help bring Lindsey home. I appreciate your integrity in looking at all the facts and asking questions that are actually relevant, rather than speculating on every facial expression or word said by anyone representing Lindsey on the news. None of us can judge another person based on what we ourselves would do, we are all different and make our own choices based on our past experiences. While some of it may be relevant, most of it just distracts from the real issue, which is finding Lindsey safe and sound.

Expert: Missing girl likely went with someone she knew
12:22 PM PDT on Wednesday, July 1, 2009
By DREW MIKKELSEN / KING 5 News
McCLEARY, Wash. -- A national expert helping in the search for 10-year-old Lindsey Baum says someone Lindsey knew might be responsible for her disappearance.
Baum vanished while walking home from a friend’s house Friday around 9 p.m.
"Based on the information I have, it’s someone she possibly knows or is in the area, not outside the area," said Henry Schmidt, with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
Schmidt, a retired sheriff from Wyoming, arrived in McCleary to assist with the search Sunday.
Volunteers and police have been going door-to-door to talk to every person in McCleary.
Officially, search coordinators with the Grays Harbor County Sheriff’s Office said they are not leaning any direction yet as to what happened to Lindsey.
Investigators have not found any evidence to suggest she was kidnapped, got lost or just ran away.
Schmidt said the majority of abducted children are taken by people they know.
Schmidt said statistically, most abducted children are murdered within 24 hours. But, he said, that doesn’t make searchers give up hope.
“I’ve seen positive results," Schmidt said. "There’s proven cases out there of kids being found a couple of years later."
A spokesperson for Lindsey's mother says the family is holding out hope and trying to stay positive, but as time passes they say that's harder to do.
Late Tuesday night, residents of McCleary gathered in the city park to hold a vigil for a Lindsey, a familiar bright face to many of them.
"Honestly, I know she's alive," Melissa Baum, the missing girl's mother told KING 5. "And I just wanted everybody watching for her."
Melissa Baum says she's thankful for all that people have done for her family. Lindsey's father, who lives in Tennessee, is expected to arrive in town on Friday.
Lindsey is 4-foot-9, 80 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes, last seen wearing a light blue hooded pullover shirt and blue jeans.
Anyone with information is asked to call the hotline that has been set up. The number is 1-866-915-8299 or e-mail detectives at: soadmin@co.grays-harbor.wa.us .

A door to door check is excellent imo.
I however have a feeling Lindsey didn't run away. This is just my gut feeling but I think someone abducted her. And the longer she's missing the futher away she could be.

Just a thought..........
Grande's above article made me think..........
What if she did "run away"? IMO, opinion very unlikely.
However, say someone (local?) did help her run away and she is trying to make her way to see her father in TN? (It's a long trip!) If that was the case, what if she didn't make it to TN before he left for WA? How ironic would that be? Anything is possible! Since there is no Amber Alert and no national attention in this case, she could cruise under the radar.
Perhaps it is just wishful thinking on my part because I want a happy ending in this case. :shrug1:
Praying Lindsey comes home safe and SOON!
nomadpatti,
I was convinced that a 10 year old child would never run away but this article is going beyond guessing with this information.

If that's true and Lindsay left with someone she knows, somebody knows something. The person that picked her up and their family, co/workers, etc, know something. This goes back to what I said about someone besides Lindsey being away from work, school or whatever their regular schedule is.

Lindsey would have had to make a sudden decision to run away, since she expected to spend the night with her friend. This case does not fit the profile of a runaway. She is also a little young for that. I feel like she was indeed abducted. The person who took her could not have planned it out because (once again) she was not expecting to be making that walk home. Someone would have needed prior knowledge that she was walking alone in fading light. That is what is so frustrating about the whole thing. It seems to be a spur of the moment thing by a predator who was always on the lookout for an opportunity.
One more thing...remember she did not have her cell phone with her to contact other friends to make plans.

Texanne, the reasons you gave are the same reasons I don't think she ran away or that her abduction was pre-planned. According to reports, she had plans to read the Harry Potter series with her mom, rented videos to watch that night with her friends and was trying to stay the night at her friend's house.
One thing that does come to mind though. I thought I read on a board where Michaela's mom Kara said that Lindsey did not take the standard route home, that she went via 6th street, which from all other accounts, puts her West of where Kara's home is. Kara even posted that "the dogs picked up her scent" going that route. I kept focusing on the account of the neighbor seeing Lindsey between 5th and 6th street. I thought that was WEST of Kara's house, which didn't make sense if Lindsey had to walk EAST to get home. (I am going to find out exactly where Kara's house is so I can at least put that doubt to rest) What if she had made plans to meet a "friend" later that night that lived around 6th street and she had wanted to stay at Michaela's house because it was closer? Then when it didn't pan out, she decided to walk by the "friends" house on the way home to let them know she wouldnt be able to make it later?
Once I find out where Kara's house is in relation to where Lindsey was last seen, maybe I won't be confused and my little thought on the "meeting" will be put to rest.:0009:

I am curious to know if Lindsey normally stayed out after dark, and so was not afraid of walking in the dark. Then it might make sense that she would take a little detour.
I'm watching HLN and they did a segment on Lindsey.

Emotional vigil held for missing Washington girl, Lindsey Baum
July 1, 6:09 PM
Tuesday night, the town of McCleary, Wash. held an emotional vigil at Beerbower Park for 10-year-old Lindsey Baum, who disappeared Friday night. The attendees held candles, cried, and prayed for the girl’s safe return.
A makeshift memorial of stuffed animals, flowers, and balloons was placed on one of the park’s fences.
A large piece of paper where supporters could leave messages for the family, was also erected at the memorial, with notes saying, “I hope you come back Lindsey you where [sic] my best friend I want you back I want you back home safe” and “May God bless you and may you be safe.”
A neighbor of Lindsey’s, Jennifer Estes told The Daily World, “They live right behind us. Michaela [Jennifer’s daughter] rides her bike and walks by herself all the time.
Lindsey’s Girl Scout troop leader, Becky Spalding said, “I had to tell her to be quiet because she was laughing all the time. It’s very unbelievable. You see this on the news, but you never know anyone who it’s happened to.”
Wayne Watne, minister at Evergreen Christian Community Church said prayers for Lindsey’s return.
Friday night, Lindsey had gone to a friend’s house to spend the night, but the girl’s mother said no. The friend spoke to the crowd, saying, “I saw her at the end of Maple [Street]. I always think if my mom and me would’ve done something different this wouldn’t have happened.”
Watne encouraged the crowd to applaud the friend and said, “Nobody blames you.”
Lindsey’s brother, Josh Baum stood and said, “I’m very sad. I want you guys to find my sister. Amen!”
The crowd ended the vigil by walking to Lindsey’s home and presenting a sign to her brother that simply said, “Hope.”
If you have information regarding Lindsey, call the Grays Harbor Sheriff Office at 1-866-915-8299 or send an email to soadmin@co.grays-harbor.wa.us.

I agree, I think she was abducted from the Shell station.
I'm glad it's getting coverage now.
So we're pretty sure she was abducted now?

Well, that is my opinion. Nowhere else IMO for a 10 year old to go suddenly.

Officer: Unlikely missing McCleary girl ran away
MCCLEARY, Wash. – Investigators looking for a missing girl in the small Western Washington community of McCleary say it's unlikely the 10-year-old ran away or is playing a prank on her family.
Grays Harbor County Undersheriff Rick Scott says investigators continue to scour the small town for clues to Lindsey Baum's whereabouts.
Scott is also urging people to report any unusual behavior by anyone in the town, saying a McCleary resident may unknowingly be a neighbor, friend or family member of someone who is involved in Baum's disappearance.
Baum has been missing since Friday night, when she failed to return home from a friend's house.
Melissa Baum fears her daughter was abducted.
Lindsey is 4 foot-9, 80 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes, last seen wearing a light blue hooded pullover shirt and blue jeans.

Missing Girl's Father: 'I Just Want My Daughter'
Posted: 5:33 pm PDT July 1, 2009Updated: 6:28 pm PDT July 1, 2009
MCCLEARY, Wash. -- Five days after a Grays Harbor County girl vanished, police are now searching through a landfill for any sign of Lindsey Baum.
Baum, 10, disappeared Friday night while walking home at about 9 p.m.
Lindsey’s father, Greg Baum, lives in Tennessee and has been trying to come to McCleary, but is getting ready to deploy to Iraq. He said he feel helpless, but knows the police are doing all they can.
"Right now I'm just praying that she's found and she's found safe," Lindsey’s father said.
Two Grays Harbor Sheriff’s Officials worked endlessly Wednesday sorting through one-third of McCleary’s garbage, hoping to find a clue that could lead to Lindsey.
“We're looking for any signs of evidence of the missing girl. We're looking for clothing Lindsey may have been wearing," said Chief Deputy Dave Pimentel. “And of course the un-talkable."
Baum believes his daughter has been abducted, but is holding on to hope.
“We're gonna bring Lindsey home. We're gonna find her and if I have to knock on every door in Grays Harbor County to do that we will," said Rick Scott of the Grays Harbor County Sheriff's Office.
The search at the landfill and additional ground searches Wednesday have continued to come up empty.
Investigators are now asking people in town to report any odd behavior by their friends or family since Lindsey vanished. Something as slight as an unexplained scratch on the arm could be important.
Lindsey's father said if someone has his little girl they need to let her go.
"I just want my daughter home safe. Just give her back to us," Baum said. On Monday, Lindsey's mother, Melissa Baum, also said she believes her daughter was abducted.

Scott said his department is not yet ready to conclude that Lindsey was abducted because there is no evidence to indicate that's what occurred. Since Friday, police and FBI agents have been stopping cars, volunteers handed out fliers and Thurston County dive teams have searched local creeks. Other officers took the contents out Dumpsters looking for clues. A candlelight prayer vigil was also held Tuesday in McCleary. Anyone with information is asked to call the Grays Harbor Sheriff’s Office at 1-866-915-8299 or send an e-mail to: soadmin@co.grays-harbor.wa.us.

Hundreds gather for Baum vigil
McCLEARY — It seemed as if everyone in McCleary came out to Beerbower Park Tuesday night to hold a vigil for Lindsey Baum, the 10-year-old girl who vanished almost into thin air Friday night. Faces lit by candles, they prayed together, cried together and held each other.
“Normally, it feels very safe,” said Tanya Lyon of McCleary. She said Baum’s disappearance was shocking, and as the mother of two children about Lindsey’s age, she felt she needed to be out to show her support, even though she didn’t really know the family.
“They live right behind us,” said Jennifer Estes of the Baum family, stunned that an apparent kidnapping took place paces from her home. “Michaela (her daughter) rides her bike and walks by herself all the time.”
Although law enforcement agencies are keeping their options open, most of the people at the candlelight vigil believe Lindsey Baum was abducted. As unlikely as such a crime would be in McCleary, the thought of the girl running away seemed even less possible to those who know her.
Becky Spalding of Elma, who is Lindsey’s Girl Scout troop leader, couldn’t stop the tears. Lindsey was so full of energy, bursting with happiness, she said.
“I had to tell her to be quiet because she was laughing all the time,” Spalding said. “It’s very unbelievable. You see this on the news, but you never know anyone who it’s happened to.”
Kaylee Bodine, 12, of Elma, knows Lindsey from school and Girl Scouts. She said she’s been crying off and on, missing her good friend.
“I just hope she’s found and comes home safe,” Bodine said.
A makeshift memorial of flowers, a stuffed animal and balloons went up on one of the park’s chain link fences around its baseball field. A large piece of paper was tacked to the side of the dugout, and messages were left on it for Lindsey and the Baum family.
“I hope you come back Lindsey you where (sic) my best friend I want you back I want you back home safe,” said one message. “May God bless you and may you be safe,” read another.
Wayne Watne of Evergreen Christian Community in Olympia and two other local ministers said prayers for Lindsey’s return. Watne took speakers from the assembled crowd. Friends of the family stepped up, taking turns expressing their hope and their pain.
“I really, really miss her,” said one little girl.
“She was special to me, special to everyone,” said another. “She was someone I could care about, and you could trust and count on. It really, really hurts.”
The friend who last saw Lindsey also addressed the crowd. She said the girls asked if Lindsey could spend the night at her house, but when her parents said no, the girls parted.
“I saw her at the end of Maple (Street),” the girl said. “I always think if my mom and me would’ve done something different this wouldn’t have happened.”
As she wept, Watne encouraged the crowd to applaud her to show support.
“Nobody blames you,” Watne said.
Josh Baum, Lindsey’s brother, also stood up.
“I’m very sad,” he said. “I want you guys to find my sister, Amen!”
To finish the vigil, the crowd walked barely a block to the Baum house, lining the street practically all the way down to the park. There, Watne presented a sign saying “Hope” to Josh Baum and a family friend. Mother Melissa Baum did not feel up to greeting her neighbors, who instead left cards and gifts on the chairs in front of the house and shouted messages like, “I love you!”
“We’re doing this because we love you,” Watne said.
A second vigil was also planned Tuesday night for Elma. Kyla Ostenson, 19, and cousin Josh Ostenson, 10, organized the event. The two said they didn’t know the family, but just wanted to do something to help.
“Since there’s one in McCleary and one here it’s like two communities uniting together,” Kyla said in an interview Monday night.

Hi all. I've just read all your posts and I thought I might mention another possibility. I know many have focused on the Shell station but what struck me as another potential red flag is GailRene's mention of a local bar being what appears to be about a block away from LB's homeward route. A little girl walking at dusk might be hard to see especially if a driver had a few drinks in them.

That is a good point depending on what Karak meant by Lindsey going up the hill on 6th street. If "up the hill" means she went north, that would take her on the block that Simpson street is on, she would of been across the street from Gordon's market and the bar which is the next building to the east of Gordon's. (I hope that made sense) If Lindsey took that route, making a circle, she would be on the Subway and Mike's gas station side of the street, directly across from the bar. I would think someone would have seen her though, because there are almost always smokers out front sitting on a bench. That also doesnt fit with her BF saying she saw her at the end of Maple street. I heard those words out of her mouth myself at the vigil on Tuesday. It gets so confusing trying to piece it all together when the pieces don't match.
I do think all the different theories you guys come up with are great. It gets us all thinking and if LE goes through any of these forums, we might have said something that will spark a thought process for them based on clues they have that we don't know.
For those of you asking, my daughter showed me a news video on kcpq13 news, which clearly showed the address of the BF as 647 Maple.

Help me out here. Maybe he was drinking a bit? I don't know what to think, but I know I don't want to think about it alone.

FBI: Stranger not likely behind girl's disappearance
Story Published: Jul 1, 2009 at 7:35 PM PDT
Story Updated: Jul 1, 2009 at 10:25 PM PDT
By KOMO Staff & News Services
MCCLEARY, Wash. -- The massive ground search for the missing 10-year-old girl was scaled back on Wednesday as investigators turned the focus of their work from searching to following up on tips they've received.
On Wednesday a second person came forward to report having seen Lindsey Baum on Friday night as she walked home along Maple Street from a friend's house.
Experts with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children say if the girl was abducted, it most likely wasn't by a stranger who was hiding in the bushes.
"From what knowledge we have and the information that I have that it's someone that she possibly knows, somebody that is in the area," said Henry Schmidt with the organization.
The FBI now wants neighbors to think about anyone who may have been in the area Friday night. They also want to hear about anyone suddenly engaging in strange behavior, such as not showing up for work, selling their car for no reason or changing their appearance.
"We're certainly not looking for a witch hunt or anything of that sort, but the bottom line is we have a missing girl. And so anyone who is in this area is going to be someone we want to talk to," said Ron Twersky, FBI assistant special agent in charge.
The missing girl's mother, who wanted avoid becoming the center of the investigation, voluntarily took a polygraph test. The father of the girl's best friend, Scott Williams, also volunteered to take the test.
"At their requests polygraphs were given to them. They passed those polygraphs. We're comfortable with the information they've shared with us and comfortable with the timeline they've explained," said Grays Harbor County Undersheriff Rick Scott.
Lindsey Baum is 4 foot-9, 80 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes, last seen wearing a light blue hooded pullover shirt and blue jeans.

Police list signs of possible abduction suspects
10-year-old missing: McCleary ‘pretty much searched’ since Friday
JEREMY PAWLOSKI; The Olympian
Published: 07/02/09 12:00 am | Updated: 07/02/09 3:24 am
As the days pass and searchers in McCleary find no sign of missing 10-year-old Lindsey Baum, investigators have to consider it likely that the child was taken from the street against her will, Grays Harbor County Undersheriff Rick Scott said Wednesday.
Lindsey disappeared Friday night after leaving a friend’s house to walk alone about a half-mile to her home on Mommsen Road.
The last person to see Lindsey was a resident driving though McCleary who saw her walking on Maple Street between Fifth and Sixth streets about 9:15 p.m. She was about halfway home, near the center of town.
For five days, a massive search undertaken by law enforcement has yielded no clues about what might have happened to Lindsey, Scott said.
Scott said it is unlikely that Lindsey would have been able to run away from home and remain hidden, given the media attention generated by her disappearance.
If someone is responsible for Linsdey’s disappearance, he or she might be exhibiting odd behavior or showing warning signs, Scott said. People should be on the lookout for these signs among friends, co-workers and even loved ones, he said.
Scott suggested that one or more of the following warning signs might raise a red flag and should result in a call to police:
• Someone suddenly changing his or her physical appearance, such as cutting or dyeing hair or shaving a mustache or beard.
• Someone suddenly getting rid of a car.
• An unexplained or out-of-character absence from work.
• Unexplained cuts or bruises to the face or arms.
• Someone picking up or resuming bad habits such as smoking or drinking, or changes in mood, such as being depressed or irritable for no apparent reason.
Wednesday’s search for Lindsey focused on areas 3 to 4 miles outside McCleary and included about 20 people and search dogs, Scott said. The search included logging roads and private roads that were accessible when Lindsey went missing, he said.
The landfill in McCleary also was searched for clues Wednesday.
“We’ve pretty much searched the city of McCleary and the immediate area surrounding that,” Scott said.
No planes or helicopters were used in Wednesday’s search, but there might be another air search later, he added.
Anyone with information about Lindsey’s disappearance is asked to call the Grays Harbor County 9-1-1 center at 360-533-8765 or 866-915-8299.

I wanted to update you all on the security cameras at the Shell station. I may have told you before that the clerk said they only point at the gas pumps, not at the street behind the station, which is the intersection of 3rd & Mommsen and 3rd and Maple that Lindsey would have had to cross IF she took her normal route home. I stopped in to the Shell station today and looked at the security cameras and they do indeed point only to the North...looking from the front of the Shell station to the pumps and the police station.

Search for missing McCleary girl tapering off
Associated Press - July 2, 2009 12:55 PM ET
McCLEARY, Wash. (AP) - After nearly a week the search for a missing McCleary girl is tapering off.
Grays Harbor County Undersheriff Rick Scott say investigators are reviewing the case. They still would like to talk to anyone who may have seen anything unusual in McCleary between 9 p.m. and 10 p.m. Friday when Lindsey Baum was walking home from a friend's house.
Scott also is urging people to report any unusual behavior that might point to an abductor, such as suddenly cutting or dyeing hair, an unexplained absence from work or cuts or bruises on the arms and face.
Lindsey is 4 foot-9, 80 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes, last seen wearing a light blue hooded pullover shirt and blue jeans.

I doubt that the people in that area will stop searching, even if they have to continue on their own. Sometimes it is necessary to step back for a moment and look at where they have searched to plan continued searches. They need to urge people in surrounding areas to search every square foot of their properties. It is the forests in the area that worries me. Searching areas near the logging roads will be a huge undertaking.

Search Suspended For Missing McCleary Girl
10-year-old Lindsey Baum Remains Missing
Q13 FOX News Online
July 2, 2009
MCCLEARY - The town of McCleary in Grays Harbor County isn't giving up hope, but law enforcement officials have suspended their search and rescue efforts for 10-year-old Lindsey Baum.
While the investigation continues, crews have stopped combing the area for the girl. Search dogs, ATVs, helicopters and planes will no longer be utilized.
Grays Harbor County Undersheriff Rick Scott told Q13 FOX News that crews have thoroughly searched the area around McCleary. Now, this case is shifting into more of an investigation, with 30 officers trying to develop new leads.
Authorities say, by now, it's very unlikely that Baum has run away from home and it's possible that someone has kidnapped her.
Scott spoke about his department has uncovered so far, and what it means about the future of the investigation.
"It suggests that she's been removed from this immediate environment," Scott said. "But we don't have the evidence to support that theory, so we have to continue to be as comprehensive as we were from day one."
Baum vanished Friday night while walking home from her friend's house.
On Wednesday, volunteers continued to hand-out flyers to people driving through town, while search crews went door to door looking for clues with their dogs and several police agencies including the FBI checked on sex offenders and followed-up on tips from the community.
Ronald Twersky, the Assistant Special Agent in Charge of FBI Seattle says, "Obviously we're concerned with the time that's passed, but we're looking at this to locate Lindsey and that's the approach we have going forward."
Twersky says they have more than a dozen agents working on the case in rotating shifts, including agents with their child abduction response team. They're talking to neighbors, relatives and anyone who was in the area when Lindsey disappeared.
Investigators say if you saw anything unusual Friday night in McCleary, or have noticed a change in someone's behavior, contact the police.
Meanwhile, parents in the area are keeping a close eye on their kids.
McCleary parent Charlie Packard says Lindsey's disappearance is scary for parents. He's lived here his whole life and has never heard of anything like this happening before.
Packard has two young sons and is keeping them at his side. One of their 7-year-old friends says she's staying safe by not running around the neighborhood anymore. She's also keeping an eye on her friends.

I don't think they are saying that the searching will stop. McCleary is a very small town. They have have saturated the area with 100's of searchers.. from FBI.. local LE, Sheriffs office and the locals. They have searched back yards.. creeks.. had helicopters taking photos of the area and woods to analyze... etc etc.
At the briefing yesterday.. the agent with the FBI said that they still had 12 of their agents in McCleary.. rotating shifts.. plus the county and local LE.
I think what they are saying is that they are taking a new approach since they feel confident that she is not anywhere that they have been allowed to search.
The mother of the friend.. where Lindsey left from that night said that not everyone would allow searches of their places tho. Perhaps they are there focusing on that and trying to go through all of the leads they have and see where it leads them too.
I hope! This little girl needs to be found.

"Baum said she last saw her daughter when Lindsey, along with her 12-year-old brother, Josh, headed out to Lindsey's friend's house in hopes she could get permission to spend the night at the Baum's house.
Baum said her children began squabbling over the use of Josh's bike on the way there and were stopped by a family friend who sent Josh home to end the argument. Lindsey continued on to her friend's house. When Lindsey's friend found out she couldn't stay the night, Lindsey headed for home around 9:30 p.m."
I have been following this story on the news and read through the discussion posts. The only "lead" I haven't seen mentioned is the family friend who sent Josh home. It sounds to me like Lindsey was supposed to be walking with her brother to her friend's house and with her friend home if her friend was allowed to spend the night. The family friend sent Josh home and therefore knew that Lindsey was walking alone at least to the friend's house. Is it possible that the "family friend" is somehow involved? It just struck me as odd that no one has questioned that yet.
I pray that Lindsey is returned safely to her family.

Hello MP, good to see you again!! It's nice to have another person from that area posting here.
Hi Miss Pauli! =) I am not super close.. probably 1 1/2 - 2 hours from me but have been following it through the local media. I have a 10 year old.. and this is a little too close for comfort.
She is a little cutie. And.. I think she.. like most girls her age.. felt like she was much older than she actually was. Her mom even said that she was 10 going on 16.
It seems that the family felt completely safe in that town.. as well as.. all the others towns people. I don't think that they ever thought something like this would happen there. How sad to learn this way.
I just have a real fear that someone that she was familiar with took her.. which is just soo scary to me. We teach our children the dangers of strangers coming up and asking them to help them find their lost animal or if they want candy.. etc.. but how do we protect them from those that act like they are our friends?.. which seems to be the case more and more.

On her myspace she says that he was going to juvi and how happy she was about it. Don't think that has been confirmed.
One woman was on the king5.com website.. claiming that Lindsey came running to her and begged her to call 911 because her brother choked her.. to the point where she almost passed out. That she did call and that authorities put her back in the home with her "abuser". None of that has been confirmed IMO and could be anyone saying anything.
There was the arguement between them over her using his bike or something like that.. that a neighbor supposedly broke up.. the night she went missing. I don't know if this has been confirmed either. But.. does make sense.
I think that they had a violent relationship. I don't know if this was a normal.. brother/sister sibling rivalry or if it was something more. I wonder tho.
The mother said in a recent news article that she would not have gone with someone willingly. That she had long nails and that the marks on her brothers body were proof of that.
I have a feeling it went both ways.. to some extent!

I'm hesitant to talk about Lindsey's brother because of the way people have been tearing him up on the news web pages and some of the other bulletin boards. All of you here have been more objective about the different aspects of the circumstances surrounding Lindsey's disappearance...so I'm going to go out on a limb and pray you will remember that Lindsey and her brother are both victims here.
I have it from a VERY reliable source that Josh is a good kid. He does have some emotional/mental issues. From how she described his behavior, he may be slightly autistic. He sometimes does things on impulse or doesn't display the appropriate emotions to any given situation. People saw him carrying a fishing pole and smiling slightly in one news video and suddenly he is a sociopathic killer because he is not broken down in tears in front of the camera. This friend of mine is VERY protective of her children and yet she lets Josh play with her kids quite often...something she would NEVER do if she thought he was a danger to them. Like MP said, it probably went both ways when it came to the arguments between Josh and his sister. My own kids did things to each other that if taken out of context would have surely labeled them pyschopaths. My son hit his younger sister over the head with a rake and locked her in a tool chest once. He has not grown up to be a killer or a pyschopath. He just graduated high school with honors and was voted "nicest boy". So I don't put alot of weight to the stories of Josh and her brother fighting...but that's just me.
I do not know if the things the mlanchester person said were accurate or not and her reputation seems to be questionable.

I am going to through this one out there.................
The possibility of Josh having ANYTHING to do with his sisters disappearance is ludicous, IMO!
Keep in mind, he is a 12yo boy with what has been suggested as emotional issues. Do we really think he could have played a role in this situation to the point of out-foxing LE, FBI, or even better....the bloodhounds? Logic tells me absolutely not. Of course I think we need to explore all avenues, but I personally do not think this would be a road to go down. Imagine what this child is going through with his sister missing AND he was the last one to see her and squabbled with her. If he did not have emotional issues prior, I can only imagine how this is going to affect him, no matter the outcome.

I agree, nomadpatti. If he had done something on impulse....how would he of hidden her body and done so in a short amount of time and in a place that even highly trained search and rescue people could not find her? It just doesnt even make sense. I agree, it's important to explore every avenue, but I believe we can be sensible about it and not waste time on avenues that clearly aren't even physically possible.
Yes she does. :cray:
I wish I didn't live so far away or I would be there searching for her.
Me too Faith. The town and LE cannot give up on a child that's only been missing a few days.

Mysteryphobia,
Thanks for the explaination.
It still amazes me that people won't allow LE to search their homes, yards, etc when a child or anyone else is missing?
Remember in Jessica Lunsford's case, she was abducted and held captive across the street. :1187603408.CR.Mothe

Lindsey’s mother also said her daughter is too smart to be tricked by a stranger to get in their car.
She has very long fingernails,” said Melissa Baum. “Her brother is proof enough of that.”

Missing girl's mother: 'Let her go'http://www.king5.com/images/icon_video.gif
July 2, 2009
McCLEARY, Wash. - If a stranger kidnapped 10-year-old Lindsey Baum, her mother says the girl would have put up a fight.
“She has very long fingernails,” said Melissa Baum. “Her brother is proof enough of that.”
Melissa Baum’s daughter vanished while walking home from a friend’s house in McCleary last Friday night.
Detectives said it’s possible the girl ran away, but after almost six days, they said it’s more likely she was abducted, perhaps by someone she knew.
Melissa Baum said she’s confident her daughter did not run away.
“She’s a mommy’s girl, she couldn’t be away from me that long,” said Melissa Baum.
Lindsey’s mother also said her daughter is too smart to be tricked by a stranger to get in their car.
“I joke that she’s 10 going on 16,” said Melissa Baum.
Melissa Baum said her daughter loves to read and write. She was working on a play.
Lindsey also loved animals. Melissa said Lindsey’s pet German Shepherd Cadence has been acting depressed since Lindsey vanished.
“That dog was her pillow,” said Melissa Baum.
Grays Harbor County scaled back volunteer search and rescue efforts Thursday.
“We’re not ending it, we’re just temporarily suspending it,” said Undersheriff Rick Scott.
Scott said most of Thursday’s work was conducted by detectives following up on tips and interviewing potential witnesses.
Melissa Baum said all she can do is wait by the phone for a call from police or Lindsey.
Lindsey’s mother believes her daughter is still alive, but said that is getting harder to do.
"I don't know if they're taking care of her or if they have her locked up somewhere," said Melissa Baum."They just need to let her go, let her come home."
Scott also is urging people to report any unusual behavior that might point to an abductor, such as suddenly cutting or dyeing hair, an unexplained absence from work or cuts or bruises on the arms and face.
Lindsey is 4-foot-9, 80 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes, last seen wearing a light blue hooded pullover shirt and blue jeans.
Investigators say both Lindsey's mom and the father of the friend at the home where Lindsey had just left have both voluntarily taken - and passed - polygraph tests, and they are not considered suspects.

Yikes!!!
But I bet it made you one tough cookie Anna! Your avatar alone speaks for itself!
So, Lindsay has one brother whom she perhaps was not fond of, but come on they are 10 & 12. However, if push came to shove they would totally defend and fight FOR each other - that is called love.
My daughter will call her brother a jerk, but by golly no one else better call him a jerk or she would be all over them (and she is only 6).
That brother and sister bond (in a healthy family) is amazing.
And I strongly feel that is what we have here.
A very confused boy who misses his sister and does not what emotion to express because he is in shock!

I whole heartedly agree Gailrene! I have 4 boys and you would not believe the fights and stuff that has ensued in my house... at times. (my 5 year old got a tooth knocked out the other day when him, his older brother and a friend were jumping on MY bed while I took a shower)You add in a child that may have some behavior issues.. ADD, ADHD, autism.. stuff like that.. then that just adds to the sibling rivalry within a family.
I could tell you stories that have happened within my own family with a niece that is bipolar. And.. she is a very loving, caring child but if something like this happened and a acquantance that may have seen one of her "episodes" came and told people about it.. they would believe the worse about her. It definately would not be an accurate depiction of her.. by any means.
I.. honestly do not believe that the brother had the resources nor mental capacity to have harmed Lindsey and hidden her body.. where all of those searching didn't find it immediately. I will be shocked if he had anything to do with it.
Great pictures.
What stands out to me are the woods. The area looks beautiful, but how in the world did LE and searchers comb all that area?
Also, in my opinion, that is way to far for a child to walk alone, 1/2 way or not.
