Another figure skater is facing legal trouble.

Former U.S. figure skating champion Nicole Bobek has been charged with conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine in Hudson County, New Jersey.

Bobek, who won the women’s U.S. figure skating title in 1995, was arrested last week in Florida and brought to New Jersey to appear in Central Judicial Processing Court via videolink Monday from the Hudson County Jail in Kearny, N.Y.

The 31-year-old, who has homes in New York and Jupiter, Fla., is accused of being involved in a northern New Jersey drug ring.

Hudson County Prosecutor Edward DeFazio told the Jersey Journal, “She played a significant role in this operation. She was actively involved in the upper echelon of this ring."

DeFazio added that the crimes of which Bobek is accused took place in New York and that twenty other individuals were arrested in connection to the drug ring.

Bobek’s attorney, Sam DeLuca, entered a not guilty plea for the former skater, and she was held on $200,000 bail.

Bobek faces up to 10 years in jail if she is convicted.

God how I hate this drug. Just goes to show that anyone can get caught up in it. So very sad how many lives are ruined by meth.

I agree, meth is everywhere now and getting easier to cook
according to the media, they risk their lives and those around
them, and for Bobek to be involved in a ring, I assume that
might mean selling it,and maybe making it is just awful.

Oh gosh! That looks nothing like her! Meth will ruin a person.

I was a big figure skating fan back when Nicole was hot on the ice. She was one of the skaters that kinda stayed in trouble. Hung out with the wrong crowd, etc. I remember something about Nicole and a friend breaking into someone's house way back then.

With her skating, when she was on.. she was on.. she could skate very elegantly.. but when she was off.. she was horrible.

I guess I'm trying to say she was never consistent.

Thanks, Savannah Star for the pictures. As F~M has pointed out, Nicole was a welcome figure at important ice-skating events. Her best skating was very good, and she was nice to look at. But she was very inconsistent, and there were stories about her and her sugar daddy.

Lots of skaters of her generation are still making news, sometimes good news. This is not good news.

It is sad. The number of lives that are ruined by this drug is astounding. To just look at pictures of the faces of people before and after would be enough to keep me from trying it.
