I posted this at the site formerly known as ctv also, but I know many of us have moved on from there and only post here now, so that's why I've crossposted.

It's cold in Delaware. Too cold for a hose bath by far, and actually I don't even have a hose!! I loved my big huge deck in NC and how the weather was warm enough for hose baths. I bathe my dogs in the shower now and I get filth and hair all over me and the shower in the process. Thankfully they don't freak out in the shower or I'd never be able to keep them in it! Anyway I was just thinking about it... how do you guys deal with critter baths?

I have 10 cats. So twice a year we give them some catnip, put on gloves, coats and long pants, and give them a bath in the bathroom tub. I know my vet has said I could get medicine to help make them a little more relaxed, but I just don't feel right giving them medication unless they need it. Instead we put on enough gear so they can't scratch us to death and just deal with it. I also use those bath cloths they make for cats. That helps.

I posted this on the other board, so sorry if it sounds like a repeat - cuz it is! :basic45:

In the summer we use a kiddy pool and hose. They love it.

In the winter we use our shower. I get in the shower, the dog gets in the shower, I close the sliding door so nobody can escape, and then Mr. Noah is waiting with a massive towel when they're clean.

Repeat x 6 and then I wash all the gunk and hair off of me.

Can't tell ya how much fun it is. :francis:

I have 10 cats. *snip*

We have 10 cats, too. Twice a year they go right into the shower with me - the one with the glass doors, so nobody can escape. I don't use medicine to relax them, either.

Also, when I brush & comb them, I "dip" them in the kitchen sink. I put some of that "allergy relief" in the sink water and it helps cut down on the dander and helps get rid of excess hair that I didn't get with the brush.

I'm lucky that I have 2 dogs that love a good warm bath in the bath tub. They will get in together and push and shove to be the first to be lathered down.

I'm VERY lucky that my cat doesn't seem to mind a bath either. He's not as crazy about it as my dogs are, but he just stands there knowing he's going to get a good massage while getting bathed, so he really goes for that!

I do like Noah, and get nekky with the cats in the shower. I've never had to do it without a glass stall though except once, and it didn't work out, the cat pulled down the curtain and there was no getting him back in the tub LOL I don't get too ripped up though, thankfully!

That is too cool! I need you to capture this event with the dogs pushing eachother out of the way and post it... that sounds so precious!

How funny does your cat look wet? I love it! :girl_haha: My girl is a Maine Coon and when she's wet she looks much less diva-ish and she looks smaller too... she complains LOUDLY throughout the shower but once I get her drying and start grooming her she just purrs and purrs and purrs. And I just sneeze and sneeze and sneeze lol

It's so much easier when I get a kitty rescue, cuz I get them into the shower with me right away and they get used to it. The older cat rescues...:faintTHUD:

I have 1 cat that races to the bathroom when he hears the shower. Can't figure out why he likes the shower so much. If I don't let him in there with me, he sits outside the shower and cries like a little girl. :71541:

My DH calls the cat a "drowned rat" when he gets out of the bath.

Kitty doesn't make a sound until I wrap him in a towel, then he growls like he's gonna eat me up. He also loves for me to use the blow dryer to speed up his drying time.

As far as the dogs, one's a huge male basset hound and the other is a little female rat terrier. She always seems to get lathered first, she's got her bluff in on him. :)

Drown Rat is right!! How do you hold him and blow dry? My ferrets usedto love the blow dryer too, but after I drained the tub they were stuck there so I could just hold the dryer over the tub and blow em out that way... does your cat just sit in your lap for the blowdrying portion?

It took me like 2 horus to dry taz once just brushing and blotting with a towel I bet she'd let me blowdry her!

You gotta get someone to film it... I'd love to see it.. especially if it involves a happy basset!! It's hard for me to see them as happy even when they are LOL they're sooo sad lookin! I'd have a fat spoiled basset if I had one because I'd always think it needed something LOL

Oh Noah, you get lucky sometimes with an adult rescue, but boy do I not envy you when you have to bathe an adult with unknown history!!

Some breeds of cats are water lovers. My taz though, just likes to play iwt the water as it goes down the glass door. She used to watch my mom shower and sing to her and then chase the squeegee when she was a kitten and we lived at home with my parents :girl_haha:

Johnny, my cat, just sits up on the bathroom counter and lets me blow dry him. As long as I run the dryer on low and don't blow his face, he's perfectly content.

Strange cat!

Usually the adult rescues with an unknown history get their 1st bath at the vets office. :girl_haha:

When I met my friend Casper several years ago I took him into my aunts stall shower that had been modified for my uncle who had Lou Gheric's and I aws able to hold the cat and shower with him without him escaping! It was amazing since it was like a parking space more than a shower and I didn't know this cat. I loved Cas, and I had him neutered and vaccinated, but when I moved to NC I had to leave him because I had never successfully made him a house cat. he always would escape. He used to come home clean white and fat though so I knew others were caring for my friend also... I knew if he came to Raliegh he was more likely to be killed than if he stayed behind in PoDUNK> the people that bought my house called me for vet records on him soon after I moved too, so I think he's in great hands. It was hard to leave him though.
