VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - Virginia Beach police searched Monday for a missing Richmond teenager. 16-year-old Marcus Olson disappeared from his family while vacationing in Sandbridge on Friday night. Police say he suffers from a mental disorder and needs medication.

"It's making you wonder," said Stuart Hastings. "It's making you wonder what's he doing or what's going on?"

Virginia Beach police say Olson was with his family staying at this Ocean Resorts RV Park in the 3600 block of Sandpiper Road in Sandbridge. Friday night his parents noticed he was gone. They searched for a couple hours on their own before calling for help.

"It doesn't seem real that somebody you've seen around is missing," added Hastings.

Hastings, a Montreal resident, visits the resort every year with his family. He says Marcus is a good kid and he just hopes everything is okay.

"It is saddening, because you wonder about your own children," said Hastings. "You wonder if there was any foul play involved."

Sunday night, search dogs started combing the area. Crews say they picked up the teens scent and followed it through the back bay wildlife refuge and miles south crossing into North Carolina.

"The dogs actually tracked all the way to Corolla, North Carolina," said Virginia Beach Master Police Officer Adam Bernstein. "We were getting active hits all day long at different vacation homes. We think he might have been trying to get into different houses looking for food and drink."

Police tell WAVY.com Olson suffers from a medical condition though they won't say what exactly that is. They fear he needs to get his medication.

His mother was too upset to talk with WAVY.com. She is still in Sandbrige while her husband has gone back to Richmond to see if Marcus tried to get home.

"I wouldn't be able to sit still myself," said Hastings. "I'm sure that's what they are telling them to do; sit still and hang back, but I wouldn't be able to do that personally."

Police are asking for you're help. If you have seen 16-year-old Marcus Olson give the Virginia Beach Police Communications Center a call at 385-5000.
