An Auburn University student disappeared in Asia while on a study abroad program, and his family is pleading with the public to help find him.
Michael Griffin Harrie, 29, a second year veterinary medicine student who was studying for a month at Iwate University in Morioka, Japan, was last seen July 14 in Thailand while on a sightseeing trip.
He started the trip to Bangkok on July 7 and was supposed to meet his parents in Tokyo on July 16, for a family vacation.
Harrie never arrived.
The College of Veterinary Medicine student, originally from California, was reported missing two days after the last reported sighting.
Security cameras at the airport in Bangkok shows Harrie by himself and heading toward the airport's exit, Mike Clardy, the director of communications at Auburn University told FOXNews.com.
Clardy said authorities do not suspect foul play and are treating it as a missing person case.
The trip to Bangkok was not affiliated with either university and authorities believe Harrie was traveling alone.
"He was planning to use his study abroad experience to help prepare him for his next year of veterinary school," his father, Paul Harrie, said in a statement released by Auburn University.
While in Japan, Harrie was studying pathobiology as part of a program that ran from late June through late July.
Two representatives from the university traveled to Tokyo to assist Harrie's family and are working with law enforcement in Thailand.
They have also been in contact with the consul general in Japan and the American Embassy in Thailand, the university said.
Anyone with information should call the university's security office at 334-844-8888.

Michael's father was on the news today. Sending my prayers for them to find him safe.
US Student Disappears in Thailand
(July 29) - An international search is under way for a 29-year-old Auburn University veterinary student who vanished under what appears to be unusual circumstances in Thailand.
The family of Michael Griffin Harrie is pleading for help in locating him. "We just don't know what happened to him," Paul Harrie told CNN about his missing son. "I now know the meaning of living a nightmare."
In a media release, Alabama's Auburn University said Harrie, a second-year student at the veterinary school, was attending a summer study abroad program in Morioka, Japan. He informed a professor he was going to take a one-week vacation with friends to Bangkok, Thailand, that would begin on July 7.
"He said he would be back on the 14th," his father explained. But Harrie never returned to his studies. And when he failed to meet up with his parents in Tokyo on July 16, they reported him missing.
The investigation into Harrie's disappearance is being led by Bangkok police. The American Embassy in Thailand has also been notified, and Auburn University has dispatched two representatives to Japan.
"The role there is to provide assistance to the family," Auburn University communication director Michael Clardy told CNN.
The best clues to finding Harrie appear on video.
Harrie's father, who hired a private detective agency to assist in the search, said surveillance tape from Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi airport on July 14 shows his son entering the airport but then exiting the terminal before checking in for his flight. Why would he suddenly turn around and leave remains a mystery.
Efforts to track him through automated bank transactions also add to the complexity.
His father said his son stopped withdrawing money out of ATM machines a day earlier, on July 13.
While his family calls Harrie an avid traveler, Paul Harrie said his son's behavior is out of character.
"The idea of picking up and not telling anyone is very unlike him. He likes to explore areas but always under some sort of controlled circumstances so we know where he is going. The concern is he didn't tell anybody where he was going," he said.
The worry was heightened on Tuesday because Harrie was not on his scheduled flight home to the United States where his veterinary school training was to resume in the fall. His family, desperate for answers, has a message they hope will reach their missing loved one.
"If anybody sees him, please ask him to contact us," Paul Harrie said. "We love him, and we are worried sick about him."
Michael Harrie is from the San Francisco, California, area. He has blue eyes and brown hair, wears eyeglasses and is 5 feet 11 inches tall and weighs 175 pounds. The Auburn University Department of Public Safety and Security is asking for anyone with any information on his whereabouts to call at 334-844-8888.

Auburn - There's some positive news to report about the search for a missing Auburn University student who disappeared overseas.
It appears 29-year-old Michael Harrie is not in any danger, though the search for him is not yet over. On Thursday, investigators in Thailand told Auburn University officials that Harrie left their country on Wednesday. Immigration officials say he seemed to be safe and traveling under his own free will.
University spokesman, Mike Clardy, told WHNT NEWS 19 that Harrie has not been reunited with his family. Clardy said to his knowledge has not yet spoken with his family either.
Harrie is a graduate student in Auburn's College of Veterinary Medicine. He was taking part in an overseas study program in Japan. Harrie's dad says his son traveled to Thailand for a sight-seeing trip. His parents became concerned when he didn't meet them in Japan on July 16th as scheduled.
Meanwhile a support group has now been set up in Harrie's name on Facebook. The group is called "Help find Michael Harrie. It already has more than 8,000 members. One person wrote: "My prayers are to have him home safe and sound soon." And, another posted this comment: "I was in Thailand the same time as him. My prayers and heart go out to him and his family."
