(WHITTIER, Calif.) - The State of California issued an Amber Alert today after a girl was abducted late Friday, July 31 2009, in Whittier. The suspect is considered to be armed and dangerous.

13-year old Cynthia Irene Hernandez is a Hispanic female who stands five feet 11 inches tall. She weighs 240 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes.

She was last seen wearing a seen wearing a pink shirt, blue jean skirt, white tennis shoes, and brown prescription glasses. The suspect is 45-year old Juan Cuella Hernandez, a Hispanic male, five foot eight inches tall, weighing 245 pounds with black hair and brown eyes.

He was last seen wearing seen wearing gray slacks and a long sleeve dress shirt.

The suspect vehicle is a black Chevrolet Silverado with a California license plate number 8N84118. Anyone with information is asked to call the Whittier Police Department at 562-945-8249 or dial 911.

Whittier police are looking for a 13-year-old girl allegedly abducted by her uncle, who is wanted on a parole violation and is possibly armed with a gun, police said.

Cynthia Irene Hernandez is described as 5 feet 11 inches and weighs 240 pounds. She has black hair and brown eyes. She was last seen wearing a pink T-shirt, blue jean shorts, white shoes and brown frame glasses.

She suffers from asthma and is without her medication, authorities said.

The alleged kidnapping occurred around 7 p.m. Friday outside the girl’s home in the 6300 block of Pickering Avenue, police said. The girl's uncle, Juan Cuella Hernandez, and her mother were involved in an argument outside over child care, the Whittier Police Department said in their blog.

When the argument escalated, Juan Hernandez allegedly grabbed his teenage niece and pushed her inside his two-door black 1994 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck with a California license plate 8N84118. Hernandez then drove off in an unknown direction, police said.

Hernandez, 45, is 5 feet 10 inches and weighs 240 pounds. He was last seen wearing gray slacks and a green long sleeve button-up shirt. Hernandez has the letter “B” tattooed on his left upper chest and a tower on his upper left arm. The girl’s uncle is also wanted for a parole violation.

Family members told police officers that Hernandez owns a .38-caliber semi-automatic handgun and may be armed.

WHITTIER -- An Amber Alert was issued Saturday for a 13 year old Whittier girl who was taken from her home by her uncle, according to police.

Cynthia Irene Hernandez was abducted Friday night, according to police. She is believed to be with her uncle, 45 year old Juan Cuella Hernandez, who police say could be armed.

Cynthia, her mother and Juan Hernandez were apparently involved in an argument over child care at the mother's home on Pickering Avenue in Whittier.

The argument continued outside the house, according to police. When Cynthia's mother tried to take her back inside the home, Juan Hernandez allegedly grabbed her and pushed her into his truck.

The suspect then drove away with Cynthia in an unspecified direction, authorities said.

Juan Hernandez is wanted for the abduction of Cynthia as well as a parole violation. He has told family members in the past that he carries a handgun, possibly a .380 caliber semi automatic.

He is believed to be driving a black 1994 Chevrolet Silverado two door pickup, with California license plate number 8N84118. The vehicle's hood is a faded gray.

Juan Hernandez is about 5 feet 10 inches tall and 240 lbs., with black hair and brown eyes. He has the letter "B" tattooed on his left and right upper chest, and has a tower tattooed on his left upper arm. He was last seen wearing gray slacks and a green long sleeve button up shirt.

Cynthia Hernandez is about 5 feet 11 inches tall, with brown hair and brown eyes. She was last seen wearing a pink shirt, denim skirt and white shoes. She's an asthmatic and is without her medication.

Abduction Followed an Argument at the Girl's Home


WHITTIER (KNX 1070 NEWSRADIO) -- The Whittier Police Department is asking for the public’s help in locating a 13-year-old girl who was reported kidnapped from her home by her uncle... who may be armed.

Police say the victim, Cynthia Irene Hernandez, her mother, and the suspect, Juan Cuella Hernandez were all at the home at 6300 Pickering Avenue around 7:00 Friday evening, when they got involved in an argument over child care. They then all went outside, where the arugment continued... and as the girl's mother tried to take her back inside, the suspect allegedly grabbed Cynthia and pushed her into his pickup truck and drove away with her in an unknown direction.

There's special concern, because Cynthia is asthmatic and did not have any medication with her.

Juan Hernandez, who is also wanted for a parole violation, has told family members in the past that he carries a handgun.

Cynthia is described as a 13-year-old Hispanic, about five-foot-11 and weighing about 240 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. She was last seen wearing a pink T-shirt, blue denim shorts and white shoes. And she wears brown, plastic rimmed eyeglasses.

Juan Hernandez is a 45-year-old Hispanic standing about five-foot-10 and weighing 240 pounds. He has black hair and brown eyes, and two prominent tattoos -- one of the letter "B" on his upper chest, and one of a tower on his upper left arm. He was last seen wearing gray slacks, and a green long-sleeved buttoned shirt.

He was driving a 1994 black Chevrolet Silverado 2-door pickup, with a faded-gray hood and the California license plate 8N84118.

WHITTIER, Calif.—A 13-year-old Southern California girl who police say was abducted by her uncle has been returned safely to her family and her uncle is under arrest.
Officer Jason Zuhlke of the Whittier Police Department says Cynthia Hernandez was found Saturday night at about 9 p.m. in San Dimas, about 25 miles from where she went missing Friday night.

An Amber Alert had been issued for Hernandez, who police said was taken by 45-year-old Juan Hernandez after an argument with the girl's mother Friday night.

Police say authorities found Juan Hernandez and the girl when he stopped to get gas Saturday night. They took Juan Hernandez into custody and returned Cynthia Hernandez to her family.
