BILLIE and all,
Glad you all like the stained glass masterpieces; it is stunning what artists like Alibar, Nanabillie and Tam and others here have created and I thank them and all the artists and artisans of the World for giving us such pleasure.

The artist often is joined by the equally skilled glass-maker or manufacturer who puts it all together for our use. It is such fun for me to scout out the riches....

Someone here was talking about "frying" bacon in the microwave... maybe it was Ali. I never had all that much luck at it, but KC had a girlfriend who was a MASTER at it. It came out nice and crisp. I've just never gotten the knack of the timing down.

I even bought one of those thingys with the T's standing in the drip tray so you can drap the slices of bacon over them. I do better with that.

ETA: Rita was certainly short sighted to turn you down for Glen Ford!

If was fun hearing Michael Caine talk about how star-struck he was when he first met Cary Grant.

He saw him entering a hotel and he ran up to Grant and said, "You're Cary Grant!!"
Grant said, "Why yes, you are right. And you are Michael Caine"
=he dang near fainted=
Grant went on to say he liked Caine's hit film Alfie.

Beat you to it, Grins. We bought some kits at Hobby Lobby a couple of years ago. The boys decorated a window with a "stained glass" Boston Terrier & Chihuahua. Then when my mom brought her doxie here, they added a doxie. I would not remove them for anything. They are rather hilarious on a floor to ceiling window in a formal dining room.

I tried staying up to watch an old movie the other night...so many commercials. I could not hang, and fell asleep. I have some old movies on VCR tapes that I watch sometimes when everyone is away on trips. I can make popcorn and sit back undisturbed (a luxury around here) and watch for hours.

I guess I missed y'all this morning anyway. My son had called last night and asked if we'd watch GS overnight so they could have a night out.... haven't had one in months... so we said "Fine". They brought him by on their way out around 7:30PM and DS picked him up onj the way home from work today ~3PM.

I think I'm unwound now.

I enjoyed the Grant/Caine story too. KC met Caine once when he was down in Florida working. Apparently the company had booked KC in the same hotel where Caine was staying and they met in the bar there. KC said he came over and joined them at their table and he was a treat to "hang" with. He was interested in what they were doing down there... mapping the ocean floor from a blimp. :s1gyahoo:

Not too hot here today... it's been raining off and on all day.

Cute Vet. stories too. I've never really had a problem with my dogs, but my BIL has to literally pick up his yellow lab to get her in the vet. office. :0t31:

AmyE... getting excited about the vacation, huh? I don't blame you. I can't remember when our last vacation was... unless you count the time we were up in Minden, LA evacuated for Hurricane Katrina. How is your leg? I hope your burn is healed enough you can really enjoy yourself with no pain.

Cute Michael Caine story too~he is fun on a TV interview=very witty and relaxed so I can just see him hitting it off with KC & gang. I would have loved to have been there too.

When he teamed with Laurence Olivier it was magic! Was it Sleuth?

Did he get MC's autograph? I am a big fan of his & LO too.

IMO the new actors are just not the same breed as the old time ones. I remember one story where Olivier was doing a scene and cut his hand. They gave him the wrong glass, and when he slammed it down it cut his hand. He never missed a beat, and closed his hand to stop the blood flow. I wish I could remember the movie, because he did not flinch when it cut his hand. Now an ambulance would be called, and every channel would be making a big deal of it. I just remember I had already watched the movie, but watched it again to see that scene. Oh, my memory is failing me...

Hey gang! :happy0207: I know no one else is prolly here but....you'll be back.
Oh, loved the Betty Davis day. The Letter is still on. The first Cary Grant moving will be at 6 AM and I don't remember ever seeing it. Cary and Ted Donaldson. It says Donaldson has a dancing Caterpillar, I think. One upon a Time, I think is the name. comedy...I'm sure I will have to catch it another time.

No, we don't have a VCR right now, not one that works. We've had at least one for years but they all quit on us and everything is on DVD now. Every room has a DVD player but that doesn't help. I want one that records but I also want something that will convert my old VHS to DVD, so I've tried to wait and get the whole thing.

Everyone says we should have Tivo, or equivalent but I don't have the nerve to add anything else. We go round and round about the bill every month as it is. I should have HBO, Show time, etc removed because it is not often we watch them. Only when I don't like what is on TCM. I stopped watching AMC because they started having commercials. I hate commercials.
It's hard to watch most of the new movies because of the language. I just don't know why they think it is necessary to have that.

About the channels, maybe you just need a converter box. With the digital we have to pay to have a converter in each room. The kitchen is the only room without it so it only goes to 74.

Texanne=good for you! The 'stained glass art' is new to me but I am glad you found it and had such fun. I am sure the kids were very proud to see their doggie art on windows and casting warm colors inside. Better than on the fridge.
TCM is so great for old movies b/c of selection and no commercials! They have a schedule showing all films for the month at web site

Amazing==right after the above, I found this:
"In the 1973 movie Sleuth, Laurence Olivier plays a mystery writer who coerces a rival, played by Michael Caine, to ransack his house and rob him. In the scene, Olivier sweeps a collection of figurines off a mantelpiece with his hand while describing the carnage. As it turned out, he cut his hand while doing the scene. Rather than stop filming, Olivier blotted the blood on the back of an upholstered chair, hid his bloody hand in his pocket and calmly finished the scene. As soon as the director yelled “Cut!”, Olivier promptly asked to be taken to the hospital. The shot remained in the film and Olivier can be seen grimacing as he cut his hand."

Yes, that is the movie. Grins, you are wonderful at research. I remembered it differently (duh...memory and all), but that was the scene. It is fun to watch that scene when you know the full story. He was a trooper of the old school.

Good morning all. As usual, I had to cut and run yesterday because I was emergency transportation for the boys. They were due at a local fireman festival to earn community service time for a scout badge, and my daughter was late returning from the grocery store. The devil is whipping his wife here today....rain and sunshine at the same time.

They had to help set up and run some of the game booths. They are still striving for an eventual Eagle rank.

I think I could be a writer. Lets see....I need to write in lots of "f bombs", a car chase that knocks over a fruit cart, then crashes and explodes like an atomic bomb, then guys who jump out...run to a warehouse and climb up high on something, then the bad guy falls off after nearly beating the good guy to death. And then the hero comes down to walk off with a half nude bimbo with a brain the size of a peanut shell....who is a trial lawyer. Sound like a winner?

I just came back from having another cuppa on the deck with my mother. We are having the nicest day in a while because it is raining off and on. Things were so dry, and the rain cooled things off. I am actually thinking about digging out my rod & reel and fishing for flounder later. When the boys got one in the cast net the other day, it just made me want to sit on the dock at high tide and try my luck. High tides bring in more of the salt water fish.

Was that With Six You Get Eggroll? Interesting trivia on that movie.

# This was Doris Day's final big screen appearance, following a 20 year career in the movies.

# The final scenes of this film feature Doris Day teary-eyed, wearing a housecoat and slippers. When her husband of 17 years Martin Melcher died suddenly just after production was completed, gossip magazines at the time used stills of Day from this movie, looking distraught and out-of-sorts, to accompany their articles about Melcher's death.

# George Carlin's first feature film.

# On the cover of the teen magazine we see Stacy (Barbara Hershey) reading is a picture of the 60s rock group The Monkees.

# Jamie Farr and William Christopher play supporting roles in this film as two hippie bikers. Five years before the two would co-star as Cpl. Max Klinger and Father John Mulcahey on "M*A*S*H" (1972).

Please Don't Eat The Daisies with David Niven. The kid's name was Adam and he could pick a lock. My favorite scene is when she finally picked out the fabric to reupholster the furniture and the housekeeper pointed out it was the same fabric that was already ON the furniture. Talking about John List back in the thread....I remember reading some things that made me wonder more about him. If I understood it right I believe that when he was younger he worked and gave service to the church/community where he lived at a time with him mom. When someone went back there to get some input on how they remembered him, no one remembered him much at all. Something like that. Kind of sad that someone did a lot and no one even remembers the person. Seemed to fit with how he seemed to diligently give his all on the job only to be bypassed for promotions by those that fit better with the times. No excuses for what he did but it seemed kind of a sad past for him.

Loners=never quite belong or feel popular or appreciated=buried rage building and accumulating over time=to an explosion point~added to a fantasy life very strongly planning revenge someday for all the hurts he suffered=real or imagined=
[they are takling and laughing at me behind my back=they will be sorry]
=fantasy planning scenarios of hurt infliction pain and terror=sweet revenge=different and added to each day giving satisfaction=for a time=then a real-life plan forms=
BUT
the question for me is:
=what is on their Belief Window=thru which they see themselves, others and the World?

Perhaps with List and Sodini the Pittsburgh area killer of women:
=no matter how I try, knocking myself out, no one wants or appreciates me
=all women ignore me and find me repulsive and that hurts and I will hurt back...
------this is a common 'All or Nothing' defect in
thinking linked to a Belief formed early in life.

You have hit on it Packy=we need to treat others with awareness of what they do and thank them for a job well done.
In many recovery sessions I heard time after time:
"I was never good enough for my parents. Nothing I ever did was up to par."
"No one ever said to me, 'I am proud of you' or 'You did a good job' or 'When you did that kind thing, I noticed' or 'I appreciate you'."

We need to learn from that and say those things when appropriate=design things so that you can!

Teach kids from birth and in school all the way to adulthood, how we develop healthy and unhealthy Beliefs which for our whole lives, drive and influence
>Thinking>Feelings>and Behavior for all our lives.
I am recovering from alcoholism and depression doing that same thing =looking at my past behavior and asking
ok
where did that anger=drinking come from in me=what is on my Belief Window?
hmmm
aha==criticism made me mad=way out of proportion=sooo my Belief that I must be perfect and over-achieve to get parents love makes me over-sensitive to criticism and my revenge is
hmmmmm couldn't hit my parents so I used the only weapon I had as a kid
~~~ I will not love you any more! I will run away into sports and fun to ease my pain=
[I will run away into a bar to ease my pain...
=see? A Belief formed as a child of 5 still drove my Thinking, Feelings and Behavior 51 years later!
it works
it can work to save lives in future
we must teach these things
```````
I saw it in each of the over 100 murder cases I prosecuted over seven years.
Pride, anger, rage, explosion, death

~~~ I will not love you any more! I will run away into sports and fun to ease my pain=
[I will run away into a bar to ease my pain...
=see? A Belief formed as a child of 5 still drove my Thinking, Feelings and Behavior 51 years later!
it works
it can work to save lives in future
we must teach these things
```````
I saw it in each of the over 100 murder cases I prosecuted over seven years.
Pride, anger, rage, explosion, death
all starts in the
mind.

So true, Grins, and to find and appreciate what's good and worthy in someone and acknowledge it is the way to go. In John List's case I wonder if he didn't project the idea of "failure" onto his family, and decided it was best to do what he did more out of a sense of futility rather than a feeling of rage.

It sure appears in his writings so you are right Packy. He wrote a lot, as Sodini did in his blog.
It is all there so often; many killers wrote before and after~
What have we learned? How can we use the info to catch these malfunctioning people with sad and dangerous Belief Windows and help them change what is untrue and unhealthy.
This is not an excuse but a reason for the history of experiences, external and internal, which result in the sudden explosions shocking us.

==Hi Ali =List also shows classic digns of depression. The illness lies to you and I recall sincerely believing that killing myself would be the best thing for me and my family. I continued to interpret every event that occurred [even those I caused] as signs from God confirming my plot was right.
My eviction, homelessness, car towed away, addiction = all hopeless, so I planned it over a long time. Even to go to a hotel so that my body would be discovered next day and it would not be so hard on my sister who would have to identify me.
Madness? Insanity. No.
Depression. It causes the same functioning problems as madness and insanity.

List went through the same methodical steps in killing his family; including spiritualizing it by stating they would be better off out of this evil world where their salvation was in jeopardy and would be safe in heaven.
A distortion in thinking can be changed.

Cognitive behavioral treatment has proved it over many years.

I agree.... BUT...

Did anyone besides him say he "...gave great service to the church/community..." or on the job? Could it have been a case of perception being skewed?

Perhaps he did, but I'm just saying it could have been a case of his being "...a legend in his own mind."

My favorite scene is when she finally picked out the fabric to reupholster the furniture and the housekeeper pointed out it was the same fabric that was already ON the furniture. :022:

From wikipedia:

A psychiatrist who interviewed List testified that he saw only two solutions to his family's financial and health problems – either go on welfare, or kill his family and send their souls to heaven. Welfare would expose them to ridicule, show that List did not love them, and violate his own authoritarian father's teachings to always care for and protect the family.[6]

In a 2002 interview with Connie Chung, when asked why he had not taken his own life, he said he believed that suicide would have barred him from Heaven, where he hoped to be reunited with his familyIn a 2002 interview with Connie Chung, when asked why he had not taken his own life, he said he believed that suicide would have barred him from Heaven, where he hoped to be reunited with his family

IMO he failed in church and community! Remember his family,also members of the church and the community were the ones he killed. I am apt to think his mind was totally skewed. He was worried if he committed suicide, he would be barred from Heaven where he hoped to be reunited with them, but did he actually think if he killed his family he would go to Heaven? Here we have one very egotistical, self-centered, sociopath!

Interesting trivia about the Brothers Four
a favorite group

From Wikipedia:

Bob Flick, John Paine, Mike Kirkland and Dick Foley met at the University of Washington, where they were members of the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity in 1956 (hence the 'Brothers' appellation).
Their first professional performances were the result of a prank played on them in 1958 by a rival fraternity, who had arranged for someone to call them, pretend to be from Seattle's Colony Club, and invite them to come down to audition for a concert.
Even though they were not expected at the club, they were allowed to sing a few songs and were subsequently hired. Flick recalls them being paid 'mostly in beer'..

It seemed though as more relief that I had not disgraced the family. Everything was directed at bringing credit on the family.

Perhaps they did as their parents did. For good or ill.
Some think to praise will discourage working harder. They see 'ok but you can do better' as urging you on to better grades for your benefit; I see it as failing to give credit for jobs well done.

Yes, as far as we, the public, knows, he was a very meek and mild kind of guy.

Good grief! I had no idea my answering a simple question would lead into this. He was a devout church member and felt that by killing his family he would give them entry into the kingdom of Heaven. He believed that their life at the time was bad... full of sin and with financial problems. To him, he had to kill them to save them.

Interesting though that he didn't kill himself. He went off and made another life for himself. And that life was founded by the church too. I myself believe in God.. but this kind of thing tells me how religion can screw things up. Religion is man made, spirituality is another. It's from OUT THERE

I grew up in a family that was extremely secretive. Why? I do not know. My father did not appreciate a college education and made that clear. He basically told me that he had no respect for college or those that went to one. When I was ready to graduate from high school, my counselors told me I was between a rock and a hard place. My parents had no money to send me and my parents made too much for me to get assistance.

I was/am the black sheep of my family. They never understood me. I was not the daughter they wanted. I guess I was, "different" than they were.

The older I got, the more I was like my father. He saw the world in black and white and I had a lot of gray areas. Grins, OMG, you became what my family could never have dismissed! I wish I had persevered and become SOMETHING!

Well, whatever. I am who I am that's all that I am.

Thank you, daddy Grins! God knows, I love my father beyond belief but I have always felt I was a disappointment to my parents. But yes, my parents liked that I had artistic talent.

What my parents taught me was that I needed to be responsible for everything I did. They loved me, but if I did something wrong, I had to take the punishment. That actually came in handy as an adult. I was able to pass that on to my daughter, and she was awesome and still is!

My daddy taught me many things in life, and yes, he said the same as yours did. He was beloved by the community because he was a really good guy. I was the most like my father of all three of us, but he often struggled to understand me.

A rockin' place this morning! WOW! I've read a lot of it and there's more to go... the only realio rock concert I went to was Peter Frampton, who I'd barely heard of, but, a fellow in a Methodist singles group in OKCity had tickets and invited me. He came to the bridge games occasionally so I sorta knew him. Concert was at Ok U., 20 miles away. All was great until we started home on the expressway... he ran out of gas. WHAT? He ran out of gas. Cars whizzing by and we sat on the side of the highway... turns out he had a can of gasoline in the trunk, so, he added some. It happened again before getting to where my car was pariked. Turns out he sold cars and didn't keep full tanks in cars he hoped to sell, but, when reaching my car, I had to fight for my life to be allowed to get out. It was an ordeal. But, I then knew who Peter Frampton was... )))))))

Alibar: I would bet you a dollar to a donut that I know who got upset in the MJ thread. I have been needling them a little over there too. I guess I need to cease and desist.

The mention of the guy running out of gas reminded me of when I was a teenager and the cutest guy in town asked me to take a ride with him on his new motorcycle. He suddenly sputtered to a stop in an area called "lovers leap". I got off, looked him square in the face and said "just switch on the reserve tank, and let's go!". Little did he know that my favorite beau also had a Harley Davidson that I had taken many a spin on. Ah, the memories.

You know Ali all I did was send you a PM asking you to please not chastise another poster on the board for their opinions... there was nothing bad about the pm and that's all there was to it.. other posters have received the same one when they have done the same thing.. but you are the only one that makes a big deal out of being asked to follow the rules.. We try very hard to keep all the snarky/rude posts from this site to keep it a more enjoyable place to post/read for everyone. I would not have said another word, you could have sent me a PM and discussed this with me.. but you decided to call me out on the board and make it 'appear' to everyone that I was the bad guy here. That is fine, I totally understand.

Oh, my... Pauli, I'm so sorry. At no time did I make you appear the bad guy. I know the people here in the koffee klatch are my friends and that I will feel better talking with them. I went to bed last night so worried over what the PM said, then when I read it I was relieved and made it clear to those in the klatch. It has often seemed that I am the one who causes problems and I often don't know what is permitted and what isn't. Unfortunately, I very much doubt that you totally understand. if you understood, you would have know my post in the klatch meant nothing. All those in the klatch know it. )))))))

And I need to start getting ready for my ordeal. My mother has a late afternoon dr. appt. This means that she will remember something she "needs" that can only be found at Walmart. Then she will be hungry, and will not want to wait till we get home where I can cook dinner. There is a bright spot....the oldest boy's mom is spending a few days with us and will be here with the boys. It is like leading stubborn donkeys to get them into the car to go with me on these errands. Have I mentioned that someone is watching the three next door now (not that they will stay over there much)? One of my daughter's old school pals was out of work, so it was a perfect solution for everyone. She even does all the laundry and puts it up.....a dream of mine. This woman worked for a newspaper for years, and got caught in a cutback. What is wrong when a woman in her 60's get exhausted just thinking about Walmart....and a woman who is 90 is all excited over the prospect?

Amy, when do you go home? I have been trying to get some more hats mailed. After I talked to the Lady for the postal service, she contacted my local post office. A very nice man called and said since it wasn't insured or had to be signed for, there was no way to track it. He said, "For seventy cents you can have a form that has to be signed and that way it can be tracked. " I didn't know that. He said to check your post office and I told him you did.
I asked him if I could turn a flat rate box inside out and use it, he said sure. Today I was reading their site, NO you can't. Jamie is getting me a small box tonight so I can finish it up. I never had such a hard time trying to give someone something. LOL
It is only supposed to take 2-3 business days to arrive. That will surprise me, but maybe she will get the hat before snow.

I was going to gripe at you for asking....but since you are so nice, and have been ill...okay...just this once. Walmart is nearly through with the remodeling job. I think they paid for it by firing 3/4 of the checkers. Why do they have so many registers, and so few clerks? I was already out of sorts because the doctor left us waiting for one hour, took her to the exam room...and we waited there another 20 minutes. THEN...he says he needs to send her to another doctor to do the minor surgery (another skin cancer).

HEY....it was your friend that was sick...and Lass. Oh well, you are still nice...so I will do a Walmart errand for you...NEXT TIME.

texanne, so sorry to hear about your Mom's skin cancer. The waiting these docs make us do is infuriating. Once a dentist made my brother wait quite awhile, he finally told the receptionist, he was leaving as his time was also important to his profession and he had to leave. When he had the next appmt, the dentist didn't charge him!

About WM, not the one near me, but near my dear dear mil, is just what you described. Lots of registers and no clerks. A clerk was telling us, it is because they don't have a lot of business, and if you stop there at night the lines are 20 people long and longer.

You're so sweet, I have a book to return at WM, bought the wrong one. :tongue: I don't know why I hate there so much. I think because it is so big.... maybe. It is right where our old mall use be, and I never hated going there. I think it might be the lighting there. Ever notice the sky lights? It can be dark when the sun isn't shining. Plays havoc on my eyes. Once I thought I was losing my sight until I found out about the skylights LOL

"I think I could be a writer. And then the hero comes down to walk off with a half nude bimbo with a brain the size of a peanut shell....who is a trial lawyer. Sound like a winner?

I used to have major ulcer problems, etc. The inside will heal...just give it time....and take your meds. Listen to me with all the advice. The truth is that I took my meds this a.m. for the first time in nearly two weeks. I kept forgetting to order refills, and then I kept putting off picking them up. My blood pressure was actually lower than normal the whole time, and I quit having the dizzy spell every time I bent over to pick something up. Goodness, that's a great idea. So many these days never find out their parents were really honest to goodness people BEFORE they became parents.

My older son was curious and listened to my, "...when I was a girl..." stories, but my younger son couldn't care less. I guess part of the problem is that their family had no real depth. Both their grandmothers were long gone and the one remaining grandfather was very distant... I doubt if they saw him half a dozen times in the rest of his life.

Is this a pre-printed book or something your daughter created? Tell us about it.

BL PRESENT AND READY FOR BREAKFAST, THANKS PAT AND GOOD MORNING MY FRIENDS!!! Let me tell you now that I am totally sick of this digestive thingy that I have and want SOME REAL FOOD!!! Bland dieting does not work for me, the queen of creole cuisine who likes her spicy and rich food. Even with the bland diet everytime I ingest something my stomach starts doing the watusi, the boney maroney, the twist, and just about every idiot dance that I can think of.....oh yes, the alligator!:67302::67302: Oh well, I guess these things come with the aging process.:groan:

Hmmm, didn't know you were that much older than I am.

texanne... I'm afraid I do the same as you... forget to take pills. I guess I'm spoiled in that I've always been so healthy and it just slips my mind.

OC-- now that you said it I'm pretty sure you're right about our gad-about Klatchers, but I'd forgotten.

FL in October? Hmmmm, that IS "Hurricane Season" but they just recently lowered the number of storms predicted for this year.

Lowered the # of hurricanes? That is good news! Usuallly it isn't safe until November. I like safe! My daugher and her hubby are going to vaca at some island, their rates are very cheap, and that is because of the chance of hurricanes.

I did hear the water temps were lower, which does help in regard to the chance of hurricanes. There is one tropical depression out there now, and they think it is going north. If it makes the H status it will be called Anna!

Thank You Pauli, I appreciate that, I'm just so darn excited right now. I get to see my son (which I haven't seen in 6yrs) he's been in prison every time I've gone out there :104511: Also will get plenty of play time with my grandson :tender:

Pat: the book is called "Mom tell me your story..a guided journal" By New Seasons, a division of Publications International. Starts at the beginning with when & where you were born to elementary, high school, & adulthood...What TV shows you just had to watch, Popular songs, teenage heart-throbs, what's different electronically today (haaaa) What the "big" news stories were in your teenage years....I told her there are things I can't fill out, I have no brothers or sisters, I've never been married.....questions like "how did you know my dad was the one"......on & on & on. It's pretty interesting actually.

Suburban: Did I mention how jealous I am of your trip?

My mom and dad always told us stories of when they were children. I remember a lot about my mother's family because they trace their roots back so far. My dad never mentioned his grandparents on either side. I just know that everyone in town called my grandfather "the professor" and that he was a very stern person. My dad would try to teach us Latin because he was made to learn it at such a young age. I remember VERY little. I recently reconnected to my great neice that was brought up away from us. I brought down pictures and told her..."this is your great, great grandmother, this is your great, great, great grandmother......' She was fascinated to learn things about her dad's side of the family. Maybe we should jot down a few things for future generations.

Subby, also wishing you a great trip and how wonderful for you to be visiting with your daughter and son. ENJOY! We'll be looking forward to hearing about all.

The book sounds really interesting, maybe I will look for it. My daughters would love something along that line. Last year I made them each an album using their very best pictures, from birth to marriage. They loved it! Then I was able to downsize all my albums.

Bon Voyage and be Safe! :tender:

Afternoon, all y'all... just retured from having fish tacos at Long John Silver, then shopping at Walmart. Checked mail and only a LEAFLET from Publisher's Clearig House. What's the deal with that, I wonder? Only one thin piece of paper.

Subbie, do have a great time. I'm going back to see what book is being talked about.

You know tex, My mom & dad never talked about their family life, my dad had 7 other siblings & I only got to see a few of them twice, my mom was an only child like I am. I have an uncommon last name (Hungarian) most of them are back East, Ohio, Pennsylvania area.....With all the Myspace, Facebook technology of today, I just have to get up the courage to send a message to someone with my last name. My daughter got a message last year from someone, but no names rang a bell with her. Now as an adult, I often wonder why my dad at least didn't talk much about his family. And unfortunately with all the moving I've done, I've lost everything....no pictures, just the memories. :girl_sad:

Hey there! Pat, it's not Anna is it? The next hurricane?

I'm back, safe and sound. No Ali, just your garden variety thunderstorm. It was more sound and fury out here but DH says it really came a frog strangler in town where he was working. Lightening got close enough there to leave two vehicles disabled in their parking lot.

One guy had to go out and disconnect a battery cable to get his truck to quit starting and stopping!!!

Neither could get their owners home from work.

"Old" get's younger with every birthday I have.

I remember smugly saying (back in the day) how silly it was to say anyone over 35 was old and out of touch, why that didn't happen till around 60.

Ode to PatC :yes2:

Oh ain't she sweet,
Well see her walking down that street.
Yes I ask you very confidentially:
Ain't she sweet?

Oh ain't she nice,
Well look her over once or twice.
Yes I ask you very confidentially:
Ain't she nice?

Just cast an eye
In her direction.
Oh me oh my,
Ain't that perfection?

Oh I repeat
Well don't you think that's kind of neat?
Yes I ask you very confidentially:
Ain't she sweet?

Oh ain't she sweet,
Well see her walking down that street.
Well I ask you very confidentially:
Ain't she sweet?

Oh ain't that nice,
Well look it over once or twice.
Yes I ask you very confidentially:
Ain't she nice?

Just cast an eye
In her direction.
Oh me oh my,
Ain't that perfection?

Oh I repeat
Well don't you think that's kind of neat?
Yes I ask you very confidentially:
Ain't she sweet?

Oh ain't she sweet,
Well see her walking down that street.
Well I ask you very confidentially:
Ain't she sweet?
Well I ask you very confidentially:
Ain't she sweet?

Back a couple of pages y'all were talking about filling out a book for your children. My next door neighbor's Mother bought a book that was pre-printed with so many ideas and/or questions.
After she had passed away I was house sitting for the funeral and it was on the table. What a treasure!! From things she did as a child, growing up, favorite song, etc. Dating, their favorite song, their favorite place. Years and years on paper.
I would have loved to have my family member do that.
She made one for both grand children. All in her beautiful cursive penmanship practiced for years as a third grade school teacher. ( I liked her as an adult but as a child I was so afraid I would be in her class. I wasn't)
I really need to find out where the book was bought and do the same thing.

I shocked my grandsons by telling them about having a dime and going to the Saturday matinee. It cost 9 cents for a ticket...then you stand at the counter making sure you get just the right 2 for a penny candy with the "change". You had to be rich and have a quarter to get into the new movies.

I once had a nickel and 5 pennies for the movie and lost one of the pennies. The lady let me in anyway. Whew! What a relief. Our class from school was going as a group to see a movie about a former president, I think.

The saturday matinee was always old cowboy movies or serials (Flash Gordon, etc). We always had to show up the next saturday morning to see what happened after the cliff hanger. It was noisy...ever kid in town there. Sometimes there was a yo-yo contest by the Duncan people...which I never won.

Alibar

Generally, I wasn't allowed to go to movies. The one attended which was a matinee arranged by the school was readily permitted, though. When I was older, my girlfriend's parents would help me sneak and go to movies, then at a certain point, I was allowed to go by my parents. Few years later, my younger brother could go whenever the doors opened. :0t31: The inconsistency in my religious upbringing was always consistent. haha.

I can remember when going on Sunday was a sin. My grandfather was a Baptist minister, and my dad was a deacon. Going on saturday was allowed. Come to think of it, only one mom & pop grocery was open on Sunday...and it was owned by Muslims. A popular thing to do was to sneak over there (across from our church) and spend part of our offering money on candy when the parents were not looking. Oh, the sin, the sin. No wonder I sometimes had a guilt complex.

Mornin' Klatchers... :grin:

Subby I wanted to stop in and tell you I hope you have a WONDERFUL time :love0085:Hi Pauli! :love0085:
So good to welcome you again ~ the person who made the Koffee Klatch possible.
As you have seen it is and has been a great success in accomplishing its purpose: a place to welcome in all who are families and loved ones of the missing and all others who care and are of good will.
Here is a place of rest and refreshment.

Over time we have developed as an oasis to have some creative fun and recharge our energies, so depleted in caring for others. We need to take care of ourselves to be able and fit to care for others.
We have laughter here and fellowship; you are enjoyed, respected and loved just as you are; we embrace you in times of worry and sadness; we care about you; if you are away, you are missed.
You are listened to and heard with respect when you speak.
Join right in any conversation or start a new one. There are no cliques here.

Most important of all as we say in our greeting to all new persons:
"We have good manners and conduct ourselves so that the entire family may come and enjoy themselves. Family activities are described and we all get new ideas for family fun together.
Children are welcome! Pets too! ~
We love to tell and hear funny and cute kid and pet stories.

It is right and proper that we have a Safe Harbor~so sail in and anchor down

Our best gift
to you and each other
is unconditional
Love~"

~~~~all thanks to you and our beloved Roamer and the Admins~~~~
Receive now, dear Pauli and Roamer, from all of us, these
Koffee Klatch Roses
as a fragrant reminder of our appreciation
and enduring love.
