Police are looking for a 24-year-old Prior Lake man last seen leaving a home in Helena Township at approximately 4 a.m. Jan. 18. A missing persons report was filed Monday.

Ryan Sauer left the home in Helena Township alone, driving a red 1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee with the license plate number RXX-896, said Prior Lake Police Lt. Randy Hofstad.

Sauer is 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighs 180 pounds. He has blue eyes and brown hair.

His vehicle is still missing. Police do not suspect foul play, Hofstad said.

Sauer works for a cement company in Savage. His mother is Marilyn and his stepfather is Michael Sauer.

“He’s never done this,” said Wanda Carpenter, a family friend whose daughter was once engaged to Sauer and is still a friend. “He has [plane] tickets to go visit his father in Pennsylvania. He has a lot going on. He has a big dog at home that he would never leave.”

Carpenter said family and friends are gathering in the Prior Lake area to help look for Sauer.

“Everybody’s doing everything they can do to find him,” Carpenter said.

Police are following any leads as to where Sauer may be located.

If anyone has any information, call police dispatch at (952) 445-1411.

Police are looking for a 24-year-old Prior Lake man last seen leaving a home in Helena Township near Jordan at approximately 4 a.m. Friday. A missing persons report was filed Monday.

Ryan Sauer left the home alone, driving a red 1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee with the license plate number RXX-896, said Prior Lake police Lt. Randy Hofstad.

Sauer is 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighs 180 pounds. He has blue eyes and brown hair.

His vehicle is still missing. Police do not suspect foul play, Hofstad said.

Sauer works for Twin Cities Business Interiors, said his mother, Marilyn. She, along with Ryan’s dad, Michael Sauer, and family and friends continue to search for him. They continue to call his cell phone, but the phone is either turned off or dead, she said.

“We’ve been out driving the 5-mile radius of where the police heard a ping off a cell phone tower in Jordan,” she said.

“He’s never done this,” said Wanda Carpenter, a family friend. “He has a lot going on. He has a big dog at home that he would never leave.”

“It’s not like Ryan not to let us know where he is and what’s going on,” his mother added.

Family and friends have gathered in the Prior Lake area this week to help look for Sauer. On Tuesday, police helicopters searched the area where he was last seen.

“Everybody’s doing everything they can do to find him,” Carpenter said.

Police are following any leads as to where Sauer may be located.

If anyone has any information, call police dispatch at (952) 445-1411.

If you google map Jordan, MN there is a body of water called Mill Pond. Maybe LE should look there just to see if he might have ran off the road and landed in the pond. It's happened before.

Since they haven't found his vehicle, either, it makes total sense to search that pond.

Search on for south metro man, 24, missing since he split with his girlfriend
By Paul Walsh,
Star Tribune Last update: January 25, 2008 - 1:25 PM
Police are looking for a 24-year-old southwest metro man who has been missing all week, after he and his girlfriend broke up.

Ryan Sauer, of Prior Lake, was last seen or heard from about 4:30 a.m. Sunday at the home where the mother of his former girlfriend lived, said Marilyn Sauer, Ryan's mother. It was shortly before that when Sauer and his girlfriend of a few months split up.

Later that morning, Marilyn Sauer said, Ryan called the girlfriend's brother and said, "See you in the next life."

"That didn't make me feel good about that," Marilyn Sauer said today. "His frame of mind wasn't good at the time. He had been out drinking earlier. So I don't think he was completely sober."

On Thursday night, Ryan Sauer was supposed to fly out to see his father in Pennsylvania, but that ticket went unused, Marilyn Sauer said.

She said her son has been clean from drug addiction since 2003 and has never been missing before.

There has been no credit card or bank account activity connected to Sauer, his mother said, and his cell phone signal hasn't been detected since Tuesday.

He has worked for the past two months installing business interiors.
Ryan Sauer is 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighs 180 pounds, with blue eyes and brown hair. He was last seen driving a 1993 red Jeep Cherokee with license plates RXX896.

He has a tattoo where his neck and back meet. It's of a rose with an arrow through it.

Anyone with information about Ryan Sauer's whereabouts is asked to call Prior Lake police at 952-445-1411.

Ryan hunny call us!

A new message on Ryan's myspace. I really have my doubts that this guy is alive. It sounds like he might've been suicidal. I hope LE has tried to trace his cell.

There has been no credit card or bank account activity connected to Sauer, his mother said, and his cell phone signal hasn't been detected since Tuesday.

Just realized the cell info was there...wonder where it was pinging on Tuesday?

Missing Prior Lake man may be crash victim
Missing Prior Lake man found dead in his car; no foul play suspected.
Last update: January 29, 2008 - 9:18 PM

The search for a missing Prior Lake man appears to be over after his vehicle and a body were found off a steep embankment near Jordan, Minn., police said.

Ryan Sauer, 24, was last seen early on Jan. 20, shortly after he and his girlfriend split up, his mother, Marilyn Sauer, told the Star Tribune on Friday.

"His frame of mind wasn't good at the time. He had been out drinking earlier. So I don't think he was completely sober," she said at the time.

A passing motorist spotted his vehicle about 10 a.m. Tuesday in a gravel pit near County Road 66 west of Jordan, police said. A body was found near the Jeep. Sauer's family was notified, although police are awaiting official identification by the medical examiner.

Authorities are investigating the incident, but said preliminary reports show that death was the result of injuries suffered in a one-vehicle accident. No foul play is suspected.

Body of missing Prior Lake man is positively ID'd
By Paul Walsh, Star Tribune
Last update: January 30, 2008 - 9:52 AM

A positive identification has been made on the body of a Prior Lake man who had been missing since Jan. 20, police said today.

Ryan Sauer, 24, and his vehicle were found Tuesday in a gravel pit near Jordan, Minn., Prior Lake police detective Chris Olson said.

The coroner's office made the identification based on clothing and documents on Sauer at the time, Olson said.

Sauer had not been seen since he and his girlfriend broke up, said his mother, Marilyn Sauer.

Ryan Sauer's vehicle "catapulted" into the air, hit some tree branches and landed in the pit in what Olson called a "violent accident." Olson said the accident likely occurred before dawn on Jan. 20.

The body and vehicle were spotted by the property owner.

UPDATE: Missing area man accident victim
Submitted by Lori Carlson on January 31, 2008 - 1:29pm.
Nine days after Ryan Sauer went missing, a landowner found Sauer lying dead near his crashed Jeep Grand Cherokee. He was 24.

More than a week after Ryan Sauer went missing, the 24-year-old’s body was found lying next to his vehicle at the bottom of a gravel pit at 10:04 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 29 near County Road 66 and Beaumont Boulevard in St. Lawrence Township, police said.

“It appears from preliminary observation that the victim succumbed to injuries resulting from a one-vehicle accident at that location,” Prior Lake Police Detective Chris Olson said.

Sauer was last seen at about 4:30 a.m. Jan. 20 leaving a friend’s house in Helena Township, Olson said. The accident probably occurred shortly after Sauer left the house, he said.

On Tuesday, the Scott County Sheriff’s Office and Jordan police and firefighters responded to a call of a vehicle found in the ditch with a body lying next to it.

Positive identification of the body was made, according to the Scott County Sheriff’s Office.

Police said Sauer was traveling west on County Road 66 when his vehicle left the paved portion of the road, went into the ditch, which was 2 feet below road level, and “catapulted” off the lip of Beaumont Boulevard, Olson said.

The Jeep Grand Cherokee clipped the top part of a 20-foot tree, landed on the ridge of the gravel pit and rolled down the pit in a “violent collision” until the vehicle and the body came to rest at the bottom of the gravel pit, Olson said.

Discovery of the vehicle and the body was reported by a landowner who periodically checks on the 136 acres of sand pit, Olson said. The gravel pit is owned by Susan Seifert.

At this point, police don’t know the cause or the exact time of the accident, but Olson said police believe the accident probably occurred sometime after 4:30 a.m. and before dawn on Jan. 20.

The result of a blood-alcohol test also is unknown pending further investigation.

Witnesses have said Sauer was drinking alcohol before the crash, Olson said.

“But beyond the witness’ statements, we don’t know to what degree until the tests are done by the coroner,” he said.

Sauer also left a voice message on a friend’s phone, saying, ‘See you in the next life,’ Olson said.

Following that message, there was no phone contact or bank or credit card activity from Sauer.

Friends, family and police gathered in the Prior Lake area last week to look for Sauer.

On Jan. 22, the State Patrol searched a 5-mile area near Jordan by helicopter where police last heard a ping off a cell-phone tower.

The vehicle was found about 3 miles from the cell-phone tower but in the opposite direction that police were told the signal came from, Olson said.

Sauer’s vehicle couldn’t be seen from the road along County Road 66 due to large pine trees that line the road along the gravel pit, Olson said.

Sauer graduated from Prior Lake High School in 2001. He was born in Farmington on Feb. 17, 1983. His parents are Mike and Marilyn Sauer of Prior Lake and Bruce Darling of Pennsylvania. He was a member of Harbor Community church and played guitar in the church band. He enjoyed going to the beach with his dog, Gibson.

Jake Anderson, an acquaintance of both Ryan Sauer and his brother, Chris, said he had just seen the brothers at a bar in Savage on Jan. 16. He said Ryan seemed to be in good spirits and that things appeared to be going well for him.

Sauer’s mother, Marilyn, has continued posting updates on a Caring Bridge Web site she started for her son in the days after his disappearance.

“Even though our hearts ache with the loss of our son and brother, we are able to go forward each day because of your love and support and the fact in knowing that Ryan is with God,” she wrote on Wednesday.

Marilyn Sauer’s employer also is starting a memorial fund for Ryan; details will be posted when they become available at www.caringbridge.org/visit/ryansauer.

Visitation will be Sunday, Feb. 3 from 2 to 6 p.m. at Ballard-Sunder Funeral Home, Prior Lake, and also one hour prior to the service at church on Monday. The Celebration of Life service is planned for 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 4at Harbor Community Church in Prior Lake. Interment will be at St. Michael’s Cemetery.
