JAILED music legend Phil Spector has told of his terror at being held in a "snake pit" prison with crazed killers.
The record producer, 69, is banged up in the same nick as cult massacre maniac Charles Manson.
Other inmates include Sirhan Sirhan, who shot US politician Bobby Kennedy.
In rambling letters to a pal, Spector, serving life for murdering a B-list actress, moaned: "Imagine sending me to the same prison - shows how low they can go.
"They'd kill you in here for a 39-cent bag of soup!"
The twisted Wall of Sound genius said he was terrified of being done in by other lags and that being kept locked in his 3ft by 7ft cell was better than having to mix with them at mealtimes.
Spector also described the "Darwinian blessing" of a visit by his ex-Playboy model wife Rachelle, 29, to the jail in Corcoran, California.
But he whinged that a "mean and nasty" guard made her change her clothes to conform to the dress code.
Spector, famed for his work with stars like The Beatles and The Righteous Brothers, was jailed earlier this year over the death of Lana Clarkson, shot in the mouth at his mansion.

Charles Manson Invites Jail Buddy Phil Spector to Cell

Crazed cult leader Charles Manson wants some music advice -- and he's turning to new jail mate Phil Spector for some help.
Manson welcomed the legendary music producer to California's Corcoran State Prison where he's serving a 19-year sentence after being convicted in the murder of actress Lara Clarkson by requesting he stop by his pen for a chat, the music man's wife told The New York Post .
"It was creepy," Phil's wife, Rachelle Spector told The Post. "Phillip didn't respond."
Shortly after Spector arrived at his new home, a guard delivered a note penned by Manson, that said "he considers Philip the greatest producer who ever lived," according to Rachelle.
Both have a common interest in music. Spector earned a spot in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for a lifetime of churning out top albums such as the Beatles' "Let it Be" and hits like the Ronettes' "Be My Baby."
Manson, who tried to befriend famous musicians during his stint in a band, put out a handful of songs, like "Cease to Exist," that picked up some traction after he rose to fame as a crazed killer.
Spector's publicist thinks the aging Manson -- whose been serving out a life sentence for orchestrating the 1969 murder of Actress Sharon Tate and three others -- wants to talk business.
"I think Manson wants to glean some musical advice from Phil, who was a '60s music god with his 'Wall of Sound,' " he said. "But Phil's like, 'I used to pick up the phone and it was John Lennon or Celine Dion or Tina Turner, and now Charles Manson is trying to get a hold of me!' "

Life's a bitch sometimes, huh Phillip?
So he's scared. Guess he knows now how Lana felt when he shoved that gun in her mouth.

Phil Spector To Share Jail With Eric Menendez

LOS ANGELES -- Music legend and convicted murderer Phil Spector, who complained recently about his prison quarters but later said he wanted to stay put, is being moved to make room for inmates requiring outpatient mental health treatment, a corrections spokeswoman said Tuesday.
"It's not about Spector. It's about getting services to other inmates," said California Department of Corrections spokeswoman Terry Thornton.
Spector and other prisoners will be going to Pleasant Valley State Prison in Coalinga, where the other most notorious prisoner is Erik Menendez, convicted with his brother Lyle of murdering their millionaire parents in 1993. Spector's transfer will occur this week.
Spector, 69, has been at the California Substance Abuse Treatment Facility and State Prison at Corcoran.
Thornton said Spector will be in a "sensitive needs yard" comparable to the one where he has been in Corcoran due to his notoriety.
Spector had complained about being in a prison that houses "gangsters and Manson types" and said he was trying to get to a better prison.
But when authorities questioned him about his complaints, they said he had decided he wanted to stay at the institution.
