She looks so familiar. Huntington Ridge, the brand on her shirt, is one of the private labels that Walmart acquired according to the discount store news in 1993.

The woman remains nameless. But county deputies are hopeful they'll solve this case. Most of Jane Doe's skeleton was found in a cornfield near Thomasboro fourteen years ago this month. A man spraying ditches for farmers spotted the first bone. Within a day, red flags would dot the landscape where more bones were found. Captain Tim Voges with the Champaign County Sheriff's Office says, tips came from as far away as Arkansas and as close to home as Macon County. But none lead to answers. And efforts to link this case to a missing person also failed. Other leads would come in over the years, but all would lead to dead ends. Voges says, "At this time, it's been fruitless. We haven't come up with anything that's close." But while this case is cold, investigators still work on new leads. The latest was last fall. Investigators also hope one day a match will be found for her DNA. Two rings found among the bones and the woman's unique white blouse may also one day provide some clues.

Update: Vanished Jane Doe

New developments could help investigators in the case of a woman found dead in Champaign County. Most of her skeleton was found near Thomasboro in May 1995. The sheriff's office has been checking on leads since. But hasn't been able to find Jane Doe's real name. We featured this cold case back in May and tonight have an update. Champaign County investigators are now using a new tool in their investigation. A new nationwide database. It links missing persons to cases involving unidentified victims. Authorities believe Jane Doe was murdered and have now entered her information on the NamUs.gov website. It's already found more than 100 potential matches. Champaign County Investigator Dwayne Roelfs says it's helpful. He adds, "You take what limited information we have, which is really not a whole lot of information to go on and try to find a piece for the puzzle." Some of the potential matches have been ruled out. But a few new names have shown up. Nothing concrete yet. But as more cases are added to the system, there is a better chance of finding something. Meanwhile, the coroner is updating Jane Doe's dental records, which will be added to the NamUs website. And investigators will also re-test her bones for DNA. Testing has changed since 1995 and they can now learn more from a smaller sample. And while the sheriff's office looks for clues, you too can help. If you know anything about Jane Doe, call The Champaign County Sheriff at 217/384-1204. Or Champaign County Crimestoppers at 373-TIPS.
