Marquette Police and the Marquette County Sheriffs Department are searching the area near his home.

Chaplin Cinelli was last seen wearing blue jeans and a tan hooded jacket. He has dark hair and a beard, and also wears glasses.

He was last heard from Saturday in the early morning hours. When his parents returned home, Cinelli was not there and he had left behind his wallet and cell phone.

"We are aware that his dog, the family dog, ended up at a neighbors house off leash," says Captain Gordon Warchock of the Marquette City Police. "It's possible that he went looking for the dog in the woods and became disoriented and that's why were searching the wooded areas around Shiras Hills."

Missing man found safe

By CHRISTOPHER DIEM Journal Staff Writer POSTED: October 1, 2009

MARQUETTE - Police officials credited telephone tipsters for the successful rescue of Chaplin Cinelli.

Cinelli, 30, disappeared from his home in Marquette last weekend, and was found by police at about noon Wednesday near K.I. Sawyer. After asking the public for help in locating Cinelli, the Marquette City Police Department received numerous phone calls from people who saw Cinelli walking along M-553. Based on those tips, police were able to locate him 150 yards off M-553 in the woods with help from a Michigan State Police helicopter.

"Without those phone calls we would have had nowhere to go to continue the search," Detective Capt. Gordie Warchock said.

Warchock also expressed gratitude to the state police and the Marquette County Sheriff's Office for assisting in the search and the media for providing crucial information to the public.

Warchock said he did not know why Cinelli suddenly and unexpectedly left home.

"We might never know why he went for a 20 mile walk from home, why he went into the woods and stayed there for three nights." he said. "That's the story, really, that he survived without anything for three nights in the woods the last three days in September."

Police said Cinelli was dehydrated and suffering from hypothermia. He was conscious when found and transported to Marquette General Hospital by EMS for treatment.
