ANAHEIM -- An amber alert is being issued for a 5-year-old boy reported missing after two people were shot to death inside an Anaheim apartment, police said.

Police were called to the Mariposa Apartments in the 200 block of South Rio Vista Street around 5:45 a.m. after residents reported hearing gunshots and screaming, said Anaheim police Sgt. Rick Martinez.

Inside an apartment, police found a woman, in her 30s, shot to death, he said.

A man, believed to be the woman's boyfriend, was found shot in the head. He later died at a local hospital, Martinez said.

Police say the female victim lived inside the apartment with her 5-year-old son and a female roommate.

The child, Ometal "Omie" Castillo was allegedly taken by his father, Anthony Castillo, following the shooting, according to Martinez.

The boy was last seen wearing a red shirt, black pants and he has short hair.

Castillo is described as Hispanic, 5 feet 5 inches tall and weighing about 150 pounds.

He's believed to be driving a red Honda Civic with California license plate number: 4JPR120.

A motive in the shooting is under investigation, however, Martinez said it's possible it stemmed from a custody dispute.

Police shoot suspect in double killing

Man is hospitalized but his condition is not disclosed. Police say he kidnapped his son after shooting the boy's mother and another man.

A man suspected of kidnapping his 5-year-old son after fatally shooting the boy's mother and another man was shot Wednesday by Anaheim police, authorities said.

Anthony Castillo, 31, encountered officers at Juno Avenue and Loara Street about 6 p.m. He was armed with a handgun when he was shot by the officers, said Sgt. Rick Martinez of the Anaheim Police Department.

"He refused to comply with commands, and they fired at him," Martinez said.

Castillo was taken to a hospital, police said, but the extent of his injuries was not disclosed.

It was unclear whether Castillo fired his weapon, but police recovered a handgun at the scene, Martinez said.

He said investigators had been pursuing information that led them to Castillo. The fatal shootings were reported about 4:45 a.m. at an apartment in the 200 block of South Rio Vista Street, near Lincoln Avenue, police said. Inside, officers found a woman who appeared to be in her 30s with a gunshot wound.

Paramedics pronounced her dead at the scene. A man who investigators believe was an acquaintance or boyfriend was also shot. He was taken to UCI Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, Martinez said.

An Amber Alert was issued shortly after 8 a.m. when investigators learned that the boy was reported missing from the apartment. But the alert was canceled about 10 a.m. after the boy was found at another relative's home.
