It was a murder that had happened some 6 1/2 years earlier.
Through forensic science and old-fashioned police work, that victim has now been identified and investigators say they're onto his killer.
Hamilton Township Police Lieutenant Jeff Braley says 32-year-old Aleksander Alferov ran a successful office cleaning business. He lived in Roselawn, but was originally from Russia.
Lt. Braley doesn't believe Alferov was involved in illegal activity, but he says, his killer was connected with the Russian Mob.
"I believe he [Alferov] was making quite a bit of money and was getting showy with it," said Braley.
Lt. Braley has been with the case from the beginning.
In May of 2007, the remains were found in an old ice house structure in the woods along the roadside.
"It was so well covered in trees that the suspect had to be familiar with this area," said Lt. Braley.
The gold teeth in the jawbone were the work of European dentistry.
Investigators conducted a missing persons search and found that Alferov had been missing.
They were able to make a positive identification after Alferov's family in Russia provided DNA.
"In Russia, when his mom found out, she had a heart attack and spent time in the hospital," said Lt. Braley. "I owe it to her to find the killer, so we can tell his family back in Russia, we've made an arrest in your son's death. So, that's the goal."
Police have identified a person of interest in connection with Alferov's death.
They also believe he had help dumping the body in the woods.
Investigators believe someone out there knows something and they hope that person comes forward to help finally close this case.
