Is it typical for the FBI to get involved in a search so soon after a teen goes missing?

Not at all. My guess is they have reason to believe she was taken accross state lines and/or abducted which falls under the Lindbergh Law. The FBI utilizes deployment teams (CARD -Child Abduction Rapid Deployment) in the case of suspected non-family child abductions.
I feel for her friends and family and hope she comes home safe.
ETA: Non-Family
