From fighters to friends, Vick's pit bulls learn new life
AP) -- His back resting comfortably against her chest, Hector nestles his massive canine head into Leslie Nuccio's shoulder, high-fiving pit bull paws against human hands.
The big dog -- 52 pounds -- is social, people-focused, happy now, it seems, wearing a rhinestone collar in his new home in sunny California.

Aw, thanks, rem. I read the whole article, even about how they transported them. I'm so glad most were saved, and many now have new, loving homes.
Best Friends has a new show on National Geographic called Dogtown. I've only seen it a couple of times, but I really liked it.
Shy dogs on one street, agressive dogs on another, etc. And they work to find them all homes.

If Vick has ever done one good thing in his life, it's bringing attention to the horrors of dogfighting, and breeding these animals for a life of pain.
By rehabbing so many, I think we're finally proving that all pits are not aggressive monsters, but loving, loyal pets when they're given a chance and a responsible owner.

KANAB, Utah — A quick survey of Georgia, a caramel-colored pit bull mix with cropped ears and soulful brown eyes, offers a road map to a difficult life. Her tongue juts from the left side of her mouth because her jaw, once broken, healed at an awkward angle. Her tail zigzags.
Scars from puncture wounds on her face, legs and torso reveal that she was a fighter. Her misshapen, dangling teats show that she might have been such a successful, vicious competitor that she was forcibly bred, her new handlers suspect, again and again.

To anyone afraid to open this link ~~ don't be!! It has an excellent slide show of how well these dogs are doing and the new human friends they've made.
But Dear Lord - the abuse these animals endured. :1187603408.CR.Mothe
