Quad City police are searching for a missing elderly woman. 87-year old Alice Rodelius didn't return to her home in East Moline Tuesday night.

Police say she recently moved from a home on 56th Street Place in Moline and was last seen there around 6:30. A neighbor reported seeing Rodelius use a remote to the garage, but she did not go into the home.

Rodelius suffers from early onset dementia and recently moved to Park Vista, a senior housing community in East Moline. Police say Rodelius was driving a 2009 white Toyota Corolla with license plate PSX 124. If you have any information call the East Moline Police Deparment at 797-0402.

A missing East Moline woman with dementia went out for dinner on the wrong night Tuesday and then drove to her former home and appeared confused, neighbors told police.

East Moline police are still searching for Alice M. Rodelius, 87, who recently moved from her Moline home to Park Vista Assisted Living in East Moline.

East Moline Police Sgt. Brian Foltz said Rodelius's children, who live out of town, moved her to the nursing home in July after she started experiencing the early stages of dementia.

Rodelius drove to the Rock Island Arsenal Golf Club restaurant Tuesday evening thinking it was the night she regularly meets her friends for supper, manager Patty Fisher said. Rodelius has been a member there for 30 or 40 years, Fisher said.

The server called one of Rodelius' friends and learned the supper was actually scheduled for tonight. Rodelius then left.

"She didn't seem to be focusing," the server told Fisher. "She repeated herself several times."

Police said she was at the club around 6:30 p.m.

Foltz said neighbors at Rodelius former home, 3563 56th St. Place, Moline, then saw her stop by her former home, which the family still owns. She then left and was driving a white 2009 Toyota Corolla with license plate number PSX124.

"We've had officers checking that area," Foltz said of her former home. "I just hope everything is OK and she's just confused."

Anyone with information about Rodelius' whereabouts can call police at (309) 797-0401.

Missing East Moline woman's family fears the worst
Last Updated: Oct. 14, 2009, 9:28 pm

Julie Mayes is stumped. She does not know where her mother is. Neither do East Moline police nor, apparently, anyone else, and Ms. Mayes is beginning to lose hope.

"We're presuming the worst, I guess," said Ms. Mayes, who lives in New Mexico, although she grew up in the Quad-Cities.

Her mother, Alice Rodelius, 87, was last seen by a neighbor outside her former townhouse on 56th St. Place in Moline at about 7 p.m. Tuesday. She had not been found as of 9:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Ms. Mayes said that, earlier in the evening, her mother had left the Park Vista assisted-living facility in East Moline, which she moved into less than two weeks ago. She was to meet a friend for dinner on Arsenal Island.

But when her mother got to the island, Ms. Mayes said, she did not find her friend and realized she had gotten confused about the date of the dinner. Police also told her, she said, that arsenal staff saw her mother drive off the island.

From Arsenal Island, Ms. Rodelius drove to her old house. Ms. Mayes is not sure why, but said her mother still owned the house, which still had electricity and heat.

"She also had the garage door opener," she said.

East Moline police Sgt. Brian Foltz said he also is unsure why Ms. Rodelius went to the house in Moline, although he said her dementia may have had something to do with it.

"She probably got confused thinking that's where she still lives," he said. "She's not on any medication."
Sgt. Foltz said Ms. Rodelius was driving her white Toyota Corolla with the license plate PSX124. Beyond that, he said, tracking her has proved near impossible.

"She has no cell phone," he said. "She doesn't use ATM cards."

Ms. Mayes said her mother's health had been declining since July, when she began eating less and her weight dropped to about 94 pounds. Despite her health problems, Ms. Mayes said her mother never stopped driving and did not require constant supervision at Park Vista.

"She was mobile there," she said.

Ms. Mayes said that despite her health, her mother's driving skills seemed fine.

"She made it to the Arsenal, and she made it back to the townhouse just fine," she said.

Ms. Mayes said police took her Ms. Rodelius' address book and tried to call her friends to see if they might have seen her, but none had.

"We are just stumped on why she can't be found," Ms. Mayes said.

Anyone with information on Ms. Rodelius is asked to call the East Moline Police Department at (309) 797-0401.

Posted: Thursday, October 15, 2009 1:20 pm

A missing East Moline woman with dementia was found deceased in Bureau County, Ill., after her car became stuck in a rural area near Princeton, Ill.

East Moline police issued a news release this afternoon saying no foul play is suspected in the death of Alice M. Rodelius, 87, who was reported missing Tuesday night after she drove to the Rock Island Arsenal Golf Club restaurant for a supper club on the wrong day.

Rodelius had recently moved from her Moline home to Park Vista Assisted Living in East Moline. After leaving the supper club, neighbors saw her stop by her old home. They told police she looked confused and then she left.

Local police spent the last two days looking for Rodelius, whose children live out of town.

According to East Moline police, Rodelius drove down an ATV trail near Princeton and got stuck. She then appeared to get out of the vehicle, and expired due to the elements.

East Moline police were notified by the Bureau County Sheriff's Department and Bureau County Coroner.
