I heard a rep from Cole's garlic bread on the radio today. They're having a breast cancer promotion this month with proceeds going to help breast cancer patients.
One of the hosts on the show has written several cook books. Like me, he loves Cole's products. He said that the reason he uses Cole's is that it never breaks apart when you're making a sandwich. I've only ever used it as anything besides garlic bread!
I went to the site to see their recipes. WOW!!!!! Imagine using garlic toast instead of regular bread for a grilled cheese or ham and cheese. Bake it hard and crumble it to use in meatloaf! Bake it hard and use it instead of croutons for salads or soups. Meatball and mozzarella sub on garlic bread. The possibilities are endlessssssss.....
They make it in Muskegon MI which isn't far from me. It's kind of a cool story and I didn't know it until today. Before 1972 Cole's was a smallish bakery that made donuts and wedding cakes. A salesman hit upon the idea to make garlic bread and freeze it. Until then...it was never frozen. :groan:
It's hard to believe that I lived in a world without frozen garlic bread. It was a huge hit and Cole's started making garlic bread products only. It was a huge success story.
I am so into making homemade comfort foods lately. I am guessing I will have garlic breath all winter...
