Bed Bribe

Daughter two years old
Bed I say
she is working at her little table
No bed, I am told
at length I explain obedience consequences
No bed

Genius me says
how about I tell you a new story
one I make up
while we cuddle
OK!

Thus begins the clever bed-ruse tale
the opening of which
always required, no switch
is
"Well kids!
Time now for the fur-raising adventures of
Mumbly Tumbly Mouse
but you may call me Mumbly T. Mouse
T. for Tumbly."

Bed? No problem
from then on
it will pass I thought
no
foolish me no
new chapter if I go

dragging home from work not a brain cell
still working bones tired pains in head
she smiles
BED?
another chapter
I pray
help me

Finally daughter is glad to retire
without a story from sire
when I smile at my two year old son
Bed, I say
he smiles back and says

Mumbly~

still

I grieve with you
it helps me to express my
thoughts and wishes this way~

Beloved Sandy:
How I Miss You

Every day
you
were by my side
in my lap under my feet too
you little sweetheart
so happy to see me
follow everywhere I go
never grouchy
you
made my grouchies go away
just by sighing in my lap
content

Every day we would play and say
I love
you
in so many ways

So these days without you
hurt
every minute deep hurt
loss inside outside
I look for you
expecting then remembering
how angry I am empty
sad angry
tired

Yet
something about love
never dying going on forever
yes I do believe
someday we will once again play
in a forever garden and have a place
just for us not so far above
a place made for you and me and
love and
Love~

and me too,
Grins

Thanks very much Roamy. It does hurt a lot but I will be okay. It's just going to take a bit of time to deal with. She was a special little dog but you are right in saying she is at peace now and that does help somewhat.

For now it's better, thanks and I'm sorry. I don't mean to worry anyone just needed extra prayer. Everyone has gone to bed.

I, for one, am glad that you said it, Billie. That's part of what the KK is about - being able to blurt out the truth, good or bad.

I'm praying for you as I visualize the arms of God tenderly wrapped around you, giving you gentle comfort, and a sense of peace and safety.

Those phones were heavy too. We had a black one and when the company switched to requiring a 1- before the number, my Gram rebelled.
Each time she called=which was a lot=she waa told to hang up and redial with a 1- and then the number.

Gram: Now listen dearie, I've been doin' this callin' since before you were born and sure I nivver had trouble before so you just tell those high muckety mucks that we old ones can't be bothered with all these changes.

Silence...

Dials again,
Gram: Are you the same lass I just talked to or not or what? Did you hear a word I said?
Did yer mother teach ye no manners? I'll talk to your supervisor is what so if you want to avoid trouble just be a darlin' and you go get me number what I dialed for me will ya do that for an old lady?

Silence...

Gram: "........... [Gaelic] .........."
*slam!

The puppies are so cute.

Re: the phone... you can imagine that it was a source of wonder to 7-8 year old me on visits.... frankly I was still fascinated by it as a 17 year old visitor.

I'd try to think up excuses to call someone.... anyone.... while I spent my week or so with them every summer. Of course I didn't know anybody in Parsons except the friend of my grandmothers who ran the beauty shop down town where we walked almost every day. Arabella would let me call her though, to "let her know we're on our way".... like she needed warning. :girl_haha:

Hello friends, the ones that are still speaking to me. I didn't mean to upset you. Just remember,, I guess, if I don't mention pain, you will know it is an "enviornmental problem". Evenin' Klatchers. I have been moving some miscellaneous tables, etc into the other house today. Good thing I took my tape measure with me. A lot of the stuff I wanted to take will have to stay here. The rooms here are super large, and the ones there are not. It will take some time to get used to smaller quarters.

Louise, thanks for the pics of Sandy. I can see she was a perky little beauty. So sorry you are having to struggle with losing her. You did the right thing when you ended her suffering. My BIL paid me a visit today. He just had to let one of his furbabies go. He was struggling to tell me about it. My sister has been gone for 18 yrs now, and those doggies were his constant companions. Hugs for you and hubby.

Thanks for the sweet comments about my Bayley girl. She used to say her name was Baygirl. That's what her big brothers called her.

I still every now and then feel Dixie, Scout and Ike bump my bed. Buddy and Mister never do that, I think it might have been the old bed was a little wider, but they were forever bumping my bed and Dixie would crawl under it. I still feel that occasionaly. Never has bothered me, I knew what it was right off.
It is like when I feel someone site down on the foot of the bed. I heard that was an angel. I guess mine gets real tired trying to take care of me.
She's probably already asked God what she did to deserve this. Or He as the case may be.

GOOD MORNING, KLATCHERS!

A little something beautiful to start your day:

http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g258/PatC_pics/Cooking%20pictures/Fudge.jpg

You will notice it is NOT floating in hot mushy ground stewed corn cereal.

Although, I have to admit that I might be willing to sit and suffer a bowl of that paste long enough to at least eat the fudge out of it.... I'm sure I could carefully wipe the other sh.... uhhh.... errrr.... stuff off of it.

The Last Battle
If it should be that I grow frail and weak
And pain should keep me from my sleep
Then will you do what must be done
For this---the last battle---can't be won.
You will be sad I understand
But don't let grief then stay your hand
For on this day more than the rest
Your love and friendship must stand the test.
We have had so many happy years
You wouldn't want me to suffer so
When the time comes, please...let me go.
Take me to where my needs they'll tend
Only, stay with me until the end
And hold me firm and speak to me
Until my eyes no longer see.
I know in time you will agree
It is a kindness you do to me
Although my tail its last has waived
From pain and suffering I have been saved.
Don't grieve that it must be you
Who has to decide this thing to do
We've been so close---we two---these years
Don't let your heart hold any tears.

All my love,
Sandy

Thousands send early Christmas cards to dying 5-year-old Noah Biorkman

By Jessica Nunez | MLive.com (http://connect.mlive.com/user/jnunez/index.html)

November 06, 2009, 4:11PM

http://media.mlive.com/news/detroit_impact/photo/091105-noah-biorkmanjpg-232b7b66056d44d9_medium.jpgWDIVNoah Biorkman, 5, of South Lyon, smiles as he opens a Christmas gift. Noah is dying of cancer and his parents don't think he'll make it until the end of December.Five-year-old Noah Biorkman of South Lyon will celebrate Christmas early this year.

His parents, Diana and Scott, wanted to make sure he would see the holiday one last time before cancer claims his life. They'll have their own Christmas this weekend. (http://www.clickondetroit.com/news/21522646/detail.html)

Noah was diagnosed with neuroblastoma in 2007, when he was 3 years old.

He went into remission, but then relapsed in September 2008. His family is not expecting him to make it to Christmas Day.

The media caught wind of the story and now thousands of people from across the country and around the world have sent Noah gifts and cards.

An entry on the Web site Reddit (http://www.reddit.com/r/AskReddit/comments/a1gcc/hey_reddit_noah_biorkman_is_a_5_yo_boy_who_is/) asking for people to send cards is at the top of the list on AskReddit (http://www.reddit.com/r/AskReddit/) today, with 1,723 votes and 840 comments.

The movement also has a Facebook invitation page (http://www.facebook.com/home.php?ref=home#/event.php?eid=177509260842&ref=nf) with more than 10,000 confirmed guests and wall posts from people in Finland, Sweden, England and Canada.

You can send cards or gifts directly to the family's home at 1141 Fountain View Circle, South Lyon, MI 48178.

You can also send them through Metro Detroit country radio station WYCD (http://wycd.com/Send-Christmas-cards-to-Noah--a-very-special-littl/5588415).

The family is asking people not to stop by their home.

Local NBC news station WDIV did a video report on Noah's Christmas, which you can watch here: WDIV video (http://www.clickondetroit.com/video/21525126/index.html).

When Noah opens an angel Christmas tree ornament, the reporter asks him what it means to him.

"I'm going to heaven," Noah responds. "I'm going to be an angel."

https://www.carepages.com/assets-8.6.0/images/carepages/0008/8082/96208_Maria_and_Noah_display.JPG

Noah met Maria at the golf outing. She asked him if he would take a picture and he said later he would. At dinner, Maria and Brad nicely asked again and he said sure. Maria said he put on the smile switch, grabbed her by the neck, and was ready for the picture. I call it, Noah's smile on demand.

We have had so many happy years
You wouldn't want me to suffer so
When the time comes, please...let me go.
Take me to where my needs they'll tend
Only, stay with me until the end
And hold me firm and speak to me
Until my eyes no longer see.
I know in time you will agree
It is a kindness you do to me
Although my tail its last has waived
From pain and suffering I have been saved.
Don't grieve that it must be you
Who has to decide this thing to do
We've been so close---we two---these years
Don't let your heart hold any tears.

All my love,
Sandy

Steve always has my favorites posted. Funny, they are ALL my favorites. My Anchor Holds has been a favorite for a long time. Watching a local church service one Sunday I saw Colonel Andrews that taught my older son math in junior high, singing in the choir of First Baptist North Spartanburg. It showed me why he was such a good teacher, having so much patience with Jamie and me. I sat as he graded his final exam to see if he would have to go to summer school.
Thanks Steve!

Yes, I've been watching that and will be outside here in a few minutes as soon as I finish my coffee to police the area for stuff that might blow away and take the table and chairs (and umbrella) off the pool deck. It's time to do that anyway.

Yeah - how 'bout them Saints?? Was really worried during the 1st half but they pulled out another win. My poor LSU team was defeated by Alabama but I believe the loss was due to a few bad calls from the officials. Get those things policed and put away and I will be sending good thoughts your way that you only get rain. Looks like Alabama and Florida will get the worst of it. According to the weather this morning she's losing strength and could hit land as just a weak tropical storm. Let hope that is the case.

Morning, all! I'll take a piece with pecans, Pat. How are you doing? I hope you have been taking advantage and taking it easy. I am using a sore knee as an excuse to take a day off from recovering dining chairs, etc. I say if we are going to be sick or sore, we need to take advantage of it....right?Hiya Texanne=I have been thinking about you and how frustrating it is to move; emotional time too.
On top of it all it is darn hard work and I sympathize about your pains and aches.

Pat, glad you will not get much of the storm. The tides are very high here. I walked out early this morning and was shocked to see most of the docks are under water...the lower parts anyway. I am just wondering now if the boys took my warning to pull all cast nets, rods, etc off the dock areas. Glad to see everyone is happy with the football results. My daughter is bummed because the Texans lost. She bought season tickets and has become quite the fan this year.

I hope the rain is over here. It rained all night, and I am worried about the guys who are cutting down a HUGE oak tree in front of the house I am moving to. I noticed it was looking very bad with several dead limbs looming over the house. I always hated that the tree was so close to the house, but sad to see such a majestic tree coming down. Now maybe something will flourish in that spot since there will be more sun.

send me
when a job needs done
one which seems odd I will trod
wherever you lead I will heed
the still small voice you placed
within me

go up a different street for lunch
I hear I go
toward me comes a man I know
only slightly
he stops me we talk he grieves
his wife with cancer failing now
we pray right there on the sidewalk
you showed to me

weeks later up the same way I go
here he comes smiling waving
she is better in remission is healed is home!
we embrace

in that place on that sidewalk
I learned what may come to be
if I say to you from my heart
Here I am

For my Father and all who go off to war;

There's a Long, Long Trail A-Winding

Nights are growing very lonely,
Days are very long;
I'm a-growing weary only
List'ning for your song.
Old remembrances are thronging
Thro' my memory.
Till it seems the world is full of dreams
Just to call you back to me.

Chorus:
There's a long, long trail a-winding
Into the land of my dreams,
Where the nightingales are singing
And a white moon beams:
There's a long, long night of waiting
Until my dreams all come true;
Till the day when I'll be going down
That long, long trail with you.

All night long I hear you calling,
Calling sweet and low;
Seem to hear your footsteps falling,
Ev'ry where I go.
Tho' the road between us stretches
Many a weary mile.
I forget that you're not with me yet,
When I think I see you smile.

Reproduced above are the lyrics to the popular sentimental anthem, There's A Long, Long Trail A-Winding.

Written in 1915, its words were penned by Stoddard King and its music by Alonzo "Zo" Elliott; the song proved popular among America's newly-departed Doughboys.

Use the player above to listen to a version of the song recorded by John McCormack on 7 June 1917, coincidentally the opening day of the Battle of Messines.

Dad At War

Daddy, I hardly knew ye
seeing you work in the yard
so long on hot Saturdays
digging planting a special place
flowers around the border
blooms and colors all around
leading the eye to the
Honored Flower
Our Flag

Sunset and your chair set
to look at this place
you tell me is a
memorial to your comrades
who, like you, left their
blood
on the soil of France
I see a tear

Your arm around me
still bearing marks of bullets
I saw the wound of flesh
but
not the wounds of
spirit and heart
you carried

In my time I am honored
to wear the uniform you wore
different yet the same
flag the same
as I look at my comrades
I remember
you
and them
I salute and on my hand
I see a tear~

Love,
from your Son

Hi! I made it back before the rain. :s1gyahoo:

It's official I guess, Ida has been downgraded, but we're still gonna get pretty damp in the next few hours/days.

Can someone.... anyone.... tell me on what planet in which universe a young man doing a spradle-legged duck walk to keep his britches from falling down is considered manly or sexy or in any way, shape or form attractive?????

When I was coming out of Walmart toward my car I looked up and saw this guy... I'm guessing he was early 20's... "walking" ahead of me. It caught me by surprise and I'm afraid I laughed out loud... to the point he turned around and looked at me. I smiled at him and wiggled my fingers in a wave.

I just don't "get it". IMO the only time it's appropriate for a guy to wear pants that much too big for him is if he's a Rodeo Clown in the bull ring.... and they have sense enough to wear suspenders!

"The Green Mile" is playing on AMC!!!!

Pat, all we can hope is that there are photos of them taken from behind that they can look at with shame if they ever grow up. The real shame is that there are kids young enough that you know their parents are buying their clothes wearing that junk. In that case, I blame the parents. Thankfully, my grandsons attend a school with a very strict dress code, so they are not subjected to peer pressure that wearing over sized clothing is "cool' (or whatever the term is for it now). Their wildest clothing are what we call their "mall rat" t-shirts they they are allowed to wear on weekend trips to the mall. They try to look like rock stars because they aspire to be one (sigh).

Good Post-storm Ida Day, Klatchers.

Pat, all we can hope is that there are photos of them taken from behind that they can look at with shame if they ever grow up. The real shame is that there are kids young enough that you know their parents are buying their clothes wearing that junk. In that case, I blame the parents. Their wildest clothing are what we call their "mall rat" t-shirts they they are allowed to wear on weekend trips to the mall. They try to look like rock stars because they aspire to be one (sigh).

I have left my cell phone home or I'd have taken a short movie clip of this kid walking. I still chuckle thinking about him. Right after I retired I worked part time managing a little neighborhood bar while the owner recuperated from an illness. I bought a ball of twine and kept it behind the bar. The few youngsters who dressed like that and came in I would call back in the kitchen and make them a "belt" out of that twine.

There weren't many because the place was more popular with a much older crowd and only one gave me a hard time and wanted to know what business it was of mine how he dressed. I told him that aside from finding that manner of dress personally offensive it was a distraction because every time he leaned over the pool table I was afraid his pants would fall off but the main reason was it was a safety issue.

Him: "Safety issue!?"

Me: "Yes, if this place were to catch on fire you could trip trying to run for the door while holding up your britches and block the exit for the older people. You have three options: Put on this or some other belt; go home and put on clothes that fit you and come back; go find someplace else to shoot pool."

He used my twine for a belt. :girl_haha:

Good to see you, DRJAN. You're back on full work schedule now, huh?

Good morning! :11_2_104:

I guess everyone knows the storm, Ida, calmed down before it got here.... we were on the left side of the brunt of it anyway. All I got was a night of gentle rain... good sleeping weather.

I just love rainy nights, don't you?

One of my favorite poets wrote this:

Come Walk In The Rain With Me

See how I did know you
from afar?
shy for a guy like me I know
stealing
glances your way
oh may I have this dance
what chance do I have with
a dream like you

Raining
looking out the window I thought
a walk with you would be...

Something came over me
madness!
I had your number all along
humming a song I was dialing
smiling dialing
do not think just dial!
I'll worry later
she won't be there

she is there
you are there do I dare?

We go where we both dreamed
isn't it magical isn't it wonderful
am I still holding my breath?
looking at you
I see mystery
calm frenzy
listen

Today
the Earth is ours
every moment
flowers
to be pressed in my
memory book~

It is a great idea! You can choose a specialty if you wish.
I valued my paralegal's research and writing skills.
She loved a problem, clearly stated, and going to the cases and other sources for the answer; then writing a logical, persuasive brief.

Best sources of info are:
=your local county paralegal association
=national paralegal associations
look in the phone book for local.

Call county bar association for advice.
Then contact & join the local ass'n and talk to as many paralegals as possible.
You will get good advice on schooling and the job situation and shhhhhh what lawyers to aviod==

National Paralegal Association
http://www.nationalparalegal.org/

"Membership categories include:

* Pre-student
* Student
* Regular
* Associate and paralegal school membership.

Members are employed by:

* Law firms
* Government agencies
* Corporate legal departments
* Trade associations
* Armed forces
* Educational institutions
* Self employed as independents. "

So you can choose to work for a law firm or seek government employment through civil service which has some job security benefits but may be boring.

I don't really know enough about you, Claudia, to say. It would be right down MY alley that's for sure. In fact, I think I WAS a paralegal.... many a long year ago before the term was even formed. I worked as a Legal Secretary back in Oklahoma in the early 60's, but both attorneys that I worked for turned more and more work over to me to perform.

I looked up laws and past cases in books ---this was the pre-computer days. I wrote reports and notes for them to use in their cases. I kept track of the documents related to a case. I drafted contracts, wills and trust documents as well as pleadings and motions for trials. I LOVED it!!!!

If you enjoy research and following a trail through a jungle of documents, you'll be right at home. Today, I guess good computer skills are required and definitely a good command of language and writing skills are a must.

I haven't looked at any stats but I'd think this might well be a growing field given our litigious society but also, keep in mind that paralegals are not only employed by law firms but by many corporations. I know some colleges and universities are offering degrees in paralegal studies, but as yet, a degree is not a requirement (as far as I know). There ARE certification programs too.

Also, from my experience with Lockheed Martin, the pay for being a paralegal is pretty darn good.

I hope this helps a little. Maybe someone with more (and more current) first hand knowledge will chime in and add (or correct) what I've said.

As you see. lots of info available before you start. You are wise to do your homework now; especially on the subject of which paralegal studies to pursue.
The offerings vary as to time and content and you need to choose the one best suited for you.

"Mystery Of SeaTac Man's Disappearance Solved

Posted: 1:41 pm PST November 9, 2009Updated: 3:15 pm PST November 9, 2009
SEATTLE -- Nicholas Francisco, a SeaTac man who was the subject of an intense search after he disappeared in 2008, has been found living in another state, the sheriff's office says.

Francisco never made it home after leaving work on Feb. 13, 2008. His car was found a few days later in Federal Way.

The sheriff's office said investigators did an extensive investigation to learn if Francisco had been a victim of foul play and that nothing turned up.

Last week, detectives developed information that he was is alive. He had changed his name and was living outside of Washington. KIRO 7 Eyewitness News reported he was found in California.

Francisco's wife filed for divorce in May, citing "willful abandonment."

Pat: Loved the video. Yes, that was this gang a few years ago. Two of the boys that live next door are the biggest hams. The two here are a little more serious with their music. They actually got to perform some beautiful strumming on their acoustics for their great uncle last week end. I knew better than to let them bring out the electric guitars....they scare the wildlife with those...LOL Wasn't that just the cutest kid in that video? He would fit right in.

Grins: No, the guy I walked in the snow with was not a stranger.....just strange. He was one of those people with a serious look as if something was on his mind...but never came out and said much.

I did read that. Unless failure to support your family is a crime, I don't think so. It says that he LEGALLY had his name changed. No indication that he falsified any insurance claim or took any specific actions to obstruct the police investigation so......

Did he commit a crime? If so, what crime?

ETA: I go make balogna sammich while you answer.

If he legally changed his name he had to include
his true name in the petition. Guess it was missed~a wonder someone in the court personnel didn't catch it.

If he made a false affidavit he has committed a crime.

Here is one of our "Grins'" poems I like. Well, I like them all.

Music Sublime: May be mine

Andrea Bocelli sings and so much more
my heart takes wings to soar to heights
never before reached
do I get a taste of Heaven?
yes
music is all through God's word
David talks about music plays music
to honor God so just
imagine

all the times music moved your heart
do you want to be a part of even more
sublime music
then consider eternity
and how to prepare
ask God

He knows

Thank you Lord
for
Andrea Bocelli
and all your gifts
showing us
asking us
pleading with us

Do not miss it!

Life here is an inch of eternity
imagine
no more pain no more aging
no more sorrow
only love
surprises galore
and music
eternally~

Imagining the special places you
prepared for each of us
I am filled with
Love, Grins

Nanabillie!!
How kind of you to have saved my poem and posted it. I knew there was a reason to drop in = you are always surprising me=happily~
Every time I imagine the music in heaven I think of the many times the music here moves me to tears it is so glorious=and this is only a weak sample of what is in store for us=
plus
it is only the beginning=no bodily restraints=we can soar out into space and see it all!
God promised: if we take our delight in him he will give us the desires of OUR HEARTS!
Custom-made...so
I wlll pitch in a Pittsburgh Pirate uniform in old Forbes Field
and may throw a no hitter...plus hit a homer=grand slam
why not?

Why not write a short story about your Rain Date? You are a gifted writer.

My Daddy made fudge, I probably have told you. Never tasted any like it. No recipe, I've recently discovered he probably could not read enough to have even read a recipe. His army papers said he only went through 2nd grade. I never knew that.
He died two months before his 47th birthday in 1974. New Years Day.
Back to fudge, It always had nuts, very chocolate and when ready he poured it onto a buttered platter. Not a pan, and it never ran over the edge, that I know of. ( I have the platter he used, along with my Grandmother's cup and saucer that match it. Just plain white, sorta cream colored now, with age. I wish I knew what it is called. No pattern, no markings.) You could always taste butter with every bite of fudge.

This is one of my very favorite words. I would love for you to write a poem for me.:) Please.

Serendipity....Love it!:love0085:

Serendipity is the effect by which one accidentally discovers something fortunate, especially while looking for something entirely unrelated.

Gee, I missed the news at 11. Let me know how my date turned out. Might know I would miss it.

nope, no marking on cup or saucer, either.

Time Stands Still

Serendipity
was a word I never heard or understood
until one day I lived it on the main floor of
a large department store at noon on a work day

walking across the floor the crowd thinned out
toward me rushed a woman clutching
a fine leather briefcase hair flying eyes flashing
she stopped almost touching me and gasped,
Do you know what time it is?

Whipping up my left arm I looked at my watch
and answered
Yes.
.
..
...
time stands still
until

she visibly relaxes shoulders droop smile
a mile wide chuckles sighs
Thank you, I needed that
Now
would you care to share with me
the information which you gleaned from
the consultation with your watch
I did

off she went never to know who she was
never to see her again it is
rightly so

as she turned to go
her look told me
we had just experienced
a treasured moment of
serendipity~

wondering if she has told that story
as often as,
Grins

Silence of the Lambs
``
# Anthony Hopkins described his voice for Hannibal Lecter as, "a combination of Truman Capote and Katharine Hepburn."

#The inspiration for the Silence of the Lambs was the real life relationship between University of Washington criminology professor and profiler Robert Keppel and real life serial killer Ted Bundy. Bundy helped Keppel in his investigation of the Green River Serial Killings in Washington. While Bundy was executed 24 January 1989, the Green River Killings went unsolved until 2001 when Gary Ridgway was arrested. On 5 November 2003, Ridgway pleaded guilty to 48 counts of aggravated first degree murder in a King County, Washington (Seattle) courtroom.

#Jodie Foster claims that during the first meeting between Lecter and Starling, Anthony Hopkins's mocking of her southern accent was not rehearsed and that Hopkins improvised it on the spot. Foster's reaction of horror was totally genuine, as she felt personally attacked, though she later thanked Hopkins for generating such an honest reaction.

# Jodie Foster spent a great deal of time with FBI agent Mary Ann Krause prior to filming and it was Krause who gave Foster the idea of Starling standing by her car crying. Krause told Foster that at times, the work just became so overbearing that this was a good way to get an emotional release.

I ain't skeert.... I just don't like fava beans. :71526:"Note Lecter's mention of having consumed a victim's liver with "some fava beans and nice chianti".

Liver, fava beans, and red wine all contain a substance called tyramine, which can actually kill you if you're also taking a certain class of antidepressant drugs known as MAO inhibitors. MAO inhibitors were the first antidepressant drugs developed, and were used primarily on patients in mental institutions. Lecter both worked in, and was committed to, a mental institution..."

PS
Leslie Dresbold is really good!
Watch tonight @ 10
"History Channel premieres "MysteryQuest -- Jack the Ripper."

Appearing in the 10 p.m. broadcast is Pittsburgh handwriting expert Michelle Dresbold, who concludes Jack the Ripper was Francis Tumblety, an "Indian herb doctor," and abortionist from Rochester, N.Y., who once lived in Pittsburgh among other American cities before moving to England.

"If my theory is right, Jack the Ripper definitely lived here," Ms. Dresbold said. "I guess that's one person we're glad left the city."

Another theory the show explores is that Jack the Ripper was actually a woman.

Dr. Tumblety long has been included in a group of men suspected of being the serial killer who brutally murdered and mutilated five prostitutes in the Whitechapel district of London in 1888.

In her 2006 book, "Sex, Lies and Handwriting," Ms. Dresbold wrote she found a match between Dr. Tumblety's handwriting samples from years before and after the killings with that of the famous "Letter From Hell" many believe to have been written by Jack the Ripper.

Since then, she's even more certain after examining additional samples of Dr. Tumblety's handwriting that the History Channel procured for her from a London museum. The samples were of more value for comparison with the "Letter From Hell" because they were written around the same time.

"A person's handwriting can change over a period of time," said Ms. Dresbold, a nationally known handwriting expert whose local clients have included Pittsburgh police and the Allegheny County district attorney's office. "I found a few letters much closer to 1888 and I could see his handwriting changing, getting crazier and crazier.

"The ones closer to the dates of the crimes in the fall of 1888 were most like the Letter From Hell."

So named because "From Hell" was written at the top, the letter was sent to the chairman of the Whitechapel Vigilance Committee with a piece of a human kidney. The writer said he ate the rest of the kidney and signed it "Catch me when you can."

A pathologist said the kidney came from a person who was about 45 who had advanced Bright's Disease. One of the mutilated victims, Kate Eddowes, was 43, had advanced Bright's Disease and her uterus and left kidney were missing.
Michael A. Fuoco can be reached at mfuoco@post-gazette.com or 412-263-1968."

Thanks for the pics, Grins. My mom was the same way, always making crafts of some sort, and my stepfather was a carpenter and built all kinds of things. I have many, many of mom and dad's crafts including homemade dolls and crocheted Barbie dresses, quilts and Christmas items, etc. and a beautiful cabinet he built especially to hold mom's dolls, a hutch, chests, etc. They also made most of their crafts over the years to give friends and family.

Didn't see a thread for Veteran's Day. I just had the most spectacular awesome sight. Every year an Army helicopter flys low over our Veteran's Day ceremony at the City Park a block away from me. This time it had a huge American flag attached and flying over and around above me. It was truly touching and as usual I cried for all of our veterans who gave their lives for our country.

I found this on her website....

In Portrait of a Killer: Jack the Ripper, Case Closed, Cornwell combines the rigorous discipline of twenty-first century police investigation with forensic techniques undreamed of during the late Victorian era to solve one of the most infamous and difficult serial murder cases in history. Drawing on unparalleled access to original Ripper evidence, documents, and records, as well as archival, academic, and law-enforcement resources, FBI profilers, and top forensic scientists, Cornwell reveals that Jack the Ripper was none other than a respected painter of his day, an artist now collected by some of the world’s finest museums: Walter Richard Sickert.

Yeah, I have that book and I'm not buying it. (the story I mean) :girl_haha: She makes too many leaps in logic. But hey, I love Patricia Cornwell, her Scarpetta books rock! I am behind a few right now though.

I'm fascinated with the Jack The Ripper case. It's maddening, we'll never know for sure! I feel the same about Lizzie Borden, and I tend to lean towards her being innocent. John Douglas says she's guilty, but I've always had trouble with the time line and how she could appear so quickly after Andrew's death not looking disheveled or bloody in any way.

But then, I LOVE Hannibal Lector. I know, right? It shouldn't happen. But I was always rooting for him. He loved Clarice, no doubt about it. When I went to see Hannibal in the theater, there were people just grossing out when he fed that guys brains to him. Me? I was LMAO! Go figure, I'm a little twisted. :0t31:

"Note Lecter's mention of having consumed a victim's liver with "some fava beans and nice chianti".

I never knew that! That is so interesting. I loved the movie. Well, liked watching it. What's a fava bean? LOL

PAT! I'm sorry... I forgot to answer your question from earlier. My picture is a drawing my Morgan Harrington, the 20 yr old missing from VA.

The bottom says:

I love you too much
Forever
And once more
Okay

It was a "thing" between her & her parents.

For my stepfather Gene and all of our veterans

Your Mom & Dad made heirlooms Anna=to be enjoyed and handed down over the years. How well they used their time and talents.

My Dad built a permanent memorial flower bed honoring all veterans and all who served with him in France.
A life-long member of the Disabled American Veterans as was my Mom, who ran their tag days for many years and was honored for over 10,000 volunteer hours at VA hospitals.

Thank you to Dad, Gene and all who serve and have served; as well as those who also sacrifice and support from home.

Last time I heard from OC, they were back from Florida, she'd had a flu (regular type) shot and both she and her 'puter were not feeling well.

What a cool birthday poem Grins. You are just amazzzzing. You know that! Oh, I have lots of stories where I have made a, well , don't like to call myself names but;

One night I heard something outside while home alone. I got the pistol and tiptoed around until DH and DS came to the back door. I opened the door and shoved the gun toward hubby and told him to look around outside, I was sure I heard something.
He said, "Well, do you want them to laugh themself to death or what?" He had taken the revolver apart to clean and there was not even the what'ch'ma'call'it you put the bullets in. Glad I didn't have to use it.:0t31:

Ya know I did store my ammo in a sock in my sock drawer with the gun. But after having a hard time finding which white sock in a drawer full of white socks had the bullets and was really frightened, I stopped doing that.

One more gun story.
I didn't know where DH was one evening, I guess I thought he was working. This was probably 20 years ago. He came to the back door, opened it just barely and said, "Hand me my pistol". Well, I grabbed it right quick and handed it to him, without paying any attention to what he looked like. He opened the door wider and said,
"If you laugh I will kill you". Or maybe, and I think it was, "blow your head off". Hate to admit that. He had gotten a curly perm. He never had much hair and you should have seen him. Even if I had thought he meant it, it wouldn't have made any difference. I laughed so hard tears ran down my face!:0t31:
I had my share of funny perms including curly ones but nothing to compare to his.

Can you hear Buddy snoring?? You should be able to.:0t31:

Good morning, Klatchers. I hope you all had a good Veteran's Day. I always take a little trip to lay a few flowers and flags. It was a beautiful drive. The rolling hills and towering pines always revive me and kind of see me through the sad part of the day. Lots of reading to catch up on. Funny gun stories. You guys are a hoot.

GOOD MORNING KLATCHERS.

It's a cool, crisp, sunny day here in south Mississippi. I hope it's nice wherever you guys are too.

Grins=="Ripper letter on now Discovery channel"

Isn't that a coinkydink that they'd show that while we're talking about Jack the Ripper? Do ya think they were listening? :s1gyahoo:

nanabillie==Funny gun stories. Didn't that pistol with the missing cylinder feel a wee bit light? :0t31: I know I'll bring down the ire of many, but I just never keep my gun unloaded. That's just the way I was raised. We always had guns in the house and they were always loaded. Besides, I just can't think of an emergency situation that I would need the gun for in which I'd have enough time to load the gun... I saw this in a movie on TV just the other night. A woman and child at home when someone is trying to break in, the security alarm is screaming and this poor woman is fumbling with the key to the gun lock box then going to another drawer to get the bullets and answering the phone call from the security company... http://i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy350/Capri305/pullhair.gif

I'm afraid I'd have been just like you and not been able to keep from laughing at the perm. :s1gyahoo: Did you ever find out why he did it? I bet there's a story there!

I got a smile from the perm story, too. A friend tells the high school horror story about the time his mom convinced him to get a perm just before his senior prom. He spent the three days till the prom trying to wash it out, LOL. I got such a kick from imiganing this huge, blonde football hero showing up at the prom with newly kinked hair. Poor guy!

It was 1962, so there was a mix of the crew cuts and "in the eyes" styles. We were laughing yesterday over my daughter's memory of my son (in the late 70's) hanging his head out the car window on the way to school to get the nice "blown back" look to his hair when he did not have time to dry it after getting out of the shower in the morning (I always had to work to get him out of bed in the morning). I don't care what anybody says, I think the boys are much more narcissic than the girls. A bad hair day just destryos them, LOL. What brought the memory on was the way my 12 yr. old grandson was nearly in tears when his mom would not blow dry his hair yesterday because he backtalked her. I had no idea he even cared what his hair looked like, because it always looks a little wild to me. He has curly hair if it is not straightened out a little by a dryer.
