While Tyler Weinman is out on bail - another case of cat torture occurs.

Earlier this year, pet owners - and cat owners in particular - in the Miami-Dade area were on high alert after a string of brutal cat slayings stunned South Florida residents. The Miami cat killer case was closely followed both locally and on a national scale and it ignited strong feelings in animal lovers around the country.

Now, just four months after Tyler Weinman (http://www.examiner.com/x-9534-Miami-Cat-Care-Examiner%7Ey2009m7d30-Update-Miami-area-cat-killer-suspect-wanted-a-deal-prior-to-arrest) was arrested and charged in suspicion of butchering 19 felines in the Miami-Dade area, CBS affiliate WFOR-TV (channel 4) reports (http://cbs4.com/local/cat.torture.pinecrest.2.1283279.html) that a cat has been tortured in the Pinecrest area. (Warning: Above linked story contains graphic information about the abuse inflicted upon a domestic cat.)

The cat's owner, Betsy Fantis said in a CBS4 story, that her cat Frankie survived being shot with a pellet gun and suffered serious bone fractures. The vet who treated the tortured Pinecrest cat said that the Siamese was shot multiple times.

Police continue to investigate the case. It is important to note that while the case is of special interest in light of this year's activities, authorities have not reported a connection between this cat's injuries and the previous Miami cat killer case (http://www.examiner.com/x-9534-Miami-Cat-Care-Examiner%7Ey2009m6d15-Suspect-arrested-in-Miami-cat-killer-case).

As always, this case serves as yet another sad reminder of why domestic cats are much safer when kept inside at all times.

Cat Found Tortured In Pinecrest

PINECREST (CBS4) ―

South Florida animals are coming under attack once again. Just four months ago, a serial cat killer terrorized Palmetto and Cutler Bay. Now, a cat in Pinecrest was found with wounds that left Veterinarian Edwin Derks saying the cat was one of the most shocking patients he's had in his 40-year career.

"He had an entry point here, entry point here, and he had an entry point behind his thigh." said Derks as he pointed at an x-ray. "Somebody didn't like him or what he was doing." The x-rays are of a Siamese cat shot not once, but three times with a pellet gun. The cat's hind leg was snapped in two.

"Somebody threw something, kicked him, did something fairly hard to cause that trauma, to break the leg like that." Derks told CBS4's David Sutta.

Its amazing Frankie is alive. Betsy Fantis found her pet unable to walk Sunday evening. She thought he had fought with another cat. The x-rays told a different story. Someone intentionally hurt Frankie.

"I have to tell you, I was really shocked. I wasn't expecting that news at all. I was very angry. I called the Pinecrest Police." said Fantis.

The case is of interest to police because of what happened in Palmetto and Cutler Bay. A serial cat killer terrorized pet owners, mutilating 19 cats. Police charged 18-year-old Tyler Weinman, who is out on bond right now.

Fantis told CBS4." I don't know if it's related, but I do know it's completely wrong what happened."

Frankie, who still has the pellets inside of him, is expected to recover. Betsy though is warning pet owners in the area to be on the lookout. "I'm concerned about what happened to my pet could happen to someone else's pet."

The poor, sweet baby.

IF this case has to do with the first one, I hope the thug spends the rest of his life under the jail!

Whoever did this needs to be severely punished. I believe part of the problem is the perps don't believe they'll get caught (no human witnesses to identify them) and if they do get caught, they won't be convicted. And even then, the sentences aren't long enough. :madranting94dp: MOO

No cat tortured while this monster was being held on bail. He gets bailed out and more cats are being murdered? :45024:

If they connect him to these cats, he needs to be held in prison forever and a day...sad and senseless to harm an animal that gives so much comfort to someone's family.

Ooooo, I read about this the other day :( The poor sweetie, I'm so glad he survived!

I am so sick of all the animal hate going on lately; I am not sure if animal abuse is more prevalent now or if it is just getting more press. Concerning the perps not believing they'll be caught - I absolutely agree with that. I was reading a post from someone a while back who was having a problem with her neighbor. The neighbor was killing the neighborhood cats and placing the remains near her porch. She installed security cameras and it still took three years to catch him in the act. This kind of thing will just keep happening until the courts start taking it seriously and start giving abusers the kind of sentences they deserve.

As for the case under discussion, I honestly don't think it's related to the Weinman guy. I got the impression that the poor cat just happened to wander into some mean, angry person's yard. Whoever did it still needs to be found and punished. Severely. Grr. JMO.
