Lacerations on his face and forehead? From what? Did they find a weapon, or did someone decide to move up his execution date?

Might have tried to write something with his own blood? That's curious.

He also had lacerations on his throat. They said it looked as if he were trying to write a message with his blood on the wall....

I don't know how I feel about this. I have family in LE and usually I scream to back them...but so young...just 19 when he committed the murder. I would have preferred to see life in prison...without parole.

Yes, packy, it is. If he was going to commit suicide, why not write a note first?

In his own blood. Maybe his killer's name?

This one just doesn't sound quite right to me.

Here is a page that Jesus Flores wrote...

About the officer he killed

I feel God put me here for a reason, and yes I killed the officer, but was God calling him.

About his appeal and begging for money for the appeal...

I can only get 40 years if I get my death sentence taken away. Do you think 40 years is a long time? I am 20 now. I would have to do at least 40 years, but I would be set free. How old are you? Has your life seemed a long time?

Sounds like a manipulator to me...

Oh, I do agree. I think it does, too. I think also had he not been given DP, he still deserved life without parole.

I think they do need to investiage...sounds like a murder to me, too.

Using a religious belief to soften the nature of his crime? Maybe God was calling the man he shot home.

Dont take much of a cut to bleed out.I must have seen at least a 1/2 dz. ways that inmates kill themselves. The most popular ,just tie a cord, belt, around your neck attach to bars & go limp. The ugly ones are cuting straight down the arm,or across the neck, very messy.

I know it's taken out of context, but he sounds like a lunatic.

Dang! I read the link... Thank you Sum.

What he wrote sure didn't sound like he was taking REAL responsibility for what he did (needlessly).
Strange he had a change of heart or mind and decided to end it himself after his pleading for funds to fight.

Gosh, this cop didn't do a thing wrong except not to pat him down good enough to find that gun in his back pocket.

My Uncle just told me yesterday that my Cousin has a good chance at making Lieutenant, he is a Sargent now. I remind him of this kind of stuff every time I read it even though I know he knows and is careful but it does give me a extra hug.

Gotta say, I am feeling deep sympathy for this cop & his family all over again and not on his/this killer.

"At approximately 6:40 a.m. on Tuesday, May 22, 2001, Harris County Sheriff's Deputy Joseph N. Dennis assigned to Patrol District I, responded to a Family Disturbance call at 9530 Maple Leaf in northern Harris County. Upon arriving he found the call was related to an Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle. The reportee was the sister of the suspect. While Deputy Dennis was writing the offense report the suspect drove past the residence. The reportee pointed at the suspect and alerted Deputy Dennis that he had just driven by. Deputy Dennis immediately pursued the suspect for approximately one-mile and stopped him at the dead end of the 9900 block of Oakland Circle. While attempting to handcuff the suspect, the suspect shot Deputy Dennis in the head. The suspect was apprehended approximately eight hours later. At the time of his arrest the suspect was wearing Deputy Dennis' handcuffs on his left hand and he had Deputy Dennis' duty weapon. The suspect was also in possession of the 25-caliber handgun that he used to shoot and kill Deputy Dennis. The suspect was subsequently found guilty of Capital Murder of a Peace Officer and is currently on death row.

Deputy Dennis was a 10-year patrol deputy and a 14- year veteran of the Department. At the time of his death he was survived by his wife, Rene' Dennis, also a Harris County Sheriff's Deputy, and his two children, Brandon Joseph age 9 and Chelsea Rene' age 5. Rene's father, Roy McDonald, was also a deputy with the Harris County Sheriff's Department."

NJ_Nurse Opinion:

Jesus Flores, who killed Deputy Dennis in cold blood (the 4th Deputy to be killed in the line of duty that year,) was an adult who freely applied the death penalty to the father of two small children, for no reason at all. Now at age 25, Flores couldn't handle someday receiving the state's death penalty as a punishment for his brutally taking an innocent human life, so he killed himself instead.

The Houston Chronicle has reported that wife of the murdered deputy, Renee Dennis, commented that she felt bad for the Flores family, "because it must be hard losing a son", and that Flores death didn't bring her any comfort.

As far as I am concerned, this convicted cop-killer knew right from wrong. My heart goes out to all the victims of this senseless tragedy, especially the policeman's now-fatherless two children.
