We think we know poor.....
It was lunchtime in one of Haiti's worst slums, and Charlene Dumas was eating mud. With food prices rising, Haiti's poorest can't afford even a daily plate of rice, and some take desperate measures to fill their bellies. Charlene, 16 with a 1-month-old son, has come to rely on a traditional Haitian remedy for hunger pangs: cookies made of dried yellow dirt from the country's central plateau.

I just have one question for our government: For folks that escape from Cuba, the law is "if the foot hits dry land they stay-no deportation". Our government will let illegals from all of the countries south of the border come in, they give lip service and nothing is done. But when these people try to escape to the U.S. (because they have conditions worse then most of the countries south of our border), they are automatically deported, no questions ask. So why special treatment for some countries, but not these people? Haitians need help. But the United States turns our head.
I remember about 10 yrs ago, many Haitians made it to Florida on a rickety boat. Many had died before they could get here. They were put in a detention pending deportation, worse than Gitmo, and then deported asap. So why special treatment for Mexico and Cuba, but not these people?
If this offends some folks, too bad. But it's true.

Yes it is true. And to deport Haitians can mean a death sentence for them. Those people are actually fleeing for their lives and we offer them no shelter.
