A body found alongside Interstate 540 Wednesday morning is that of a North Carolina Central University student whose husband had reported her missing when she did not come home from a Tuesday night class, Wake County sheriff's deputies said.
About a quarter-mile away on the same side of the interstate, investigators also found a white Nissan Sentra registered to Curtis. Crime scene tape surrounded the vehicle as investigators searched it.
Curtis' husband was also at the scene Wednesday to speak with investigators, and authorities got a warrant to search his car and the couple's apartment.
"Anybody that saw something near Exit 18, please call us," Harrison said. "Anything that looked suspicious, an abandoned car – we'll take anything, any information we can to follow up on."
I wonder if she had car trouble and tried to walk and got struck.

A North Carolina Central University student found dead along Interstate 540 had called her husband to tell him she was on her way home from class Tuesday night and said she was going to stop to get something to eat, he said in a 911 call WRAL obtained Thursday.
Crime scene investigators spent Wednesday combing the embankment and surrounding areas where they found the body. Also searched about a quarter-mile away on the same side of the interstate, was Curtis' Nissan Sentra, which her husband said she was driving.
Authorities also executed search warrants on Curtis's husband's car and the couple's home on Wednesday and talked with family members through the night looking for answers, family members said.
A sheriff's deputy remained stationed outside the home Thursday.

Raleigh — Durham police have joined Wake County investigators in the murder probe of a Raleigh woman whose body was found along westbound Interstate 540 Wednesday morning.
Latrese Matral Curtis, 21, was last seen Tuesday night leaving class at North Carolina Central University. Her husband, Darin Curtis, told authorities in call to Durham 911 she had called him Tuesday at about 10 p.m. to tell him she was on her way home.
Motorists driving along I-540 discovered her body about 7:30 a.m. near Louisburg Road. Darin Curtis reported his wife missing to Durham police at 8:25 a.m. Wednesday.
Wake County sheriff's investigators have not named a suspect or offered a motive for Curtis' death. They said Thursday she died of wounds apparently caused by a sharp object.
Authorities found Curtis' white Nissan Sentra about a quarter-mile away on the same side of the interstate. That was the car her husband said she had driven to class.
Investigators want anyone who drove on I-540 late Tuesday night or early Wednesday and might have seen something related to the case to contact the sheriff's office at 919-856-6900.

By Ken WardRALEIGH -- Friends say NCCU student, Latrese Curtis, who was found dead Wednesday morning was looking forward to life with her new husband.
Motorists discovered the 21-year-old's body on the side of I-540 -- just as hour before her husband, Darin Curtis, reported her missing.
The Curtis' were in their first year of marriage. They married last spring and shared a Raleigh apartment.
Story continues belowAdvertisementDays after Latrese's body was found, the Wake County Sheriff's Office continues to guard their home even though her body was not found there. Now neighbors are starting to wonder.
"There's a good amount of rumors and chatter floating around, um, so it's been pretty interesting," neighbor Matt Peach said.
At the Triangle Town Center Sears, where Latrese worked in the cashier's office, she's being remembered as a well-liked person who greeted everyone with a smile and talked about starting a family.
Her parents and siblings in Raleigh haven't spoken out since the crime. The only relative who has been heard from is her husband, Darin, and his 911 call to police. The call was made about an hour after she was found Wednesday morning.
As police continue to stake out the couple's apartment, neighbors are getting anxious for answers.
"I'd definitely like to see this brought to a close fairly soon," Peach said.
Investigators have not named any suspects and no arrests have been made. If you have any information, you're asked to call the Wake County Sheriff's Office.

Raleigh — The man arrested in the slaying of a North Carolina University student had been a pastor for more than 20 years and faced criminal sexual charges.
At 1:15 a.m. Saturday, Robert Lee Adams Reaves, 43, of 19 Birchcrest Court, was arrested and charged with first-degree murder in the death of Latrese Matral Curtis, 21.
Curtis' body was found Wednesday morning along westbound Interstate 540. An autopsy showed she died from puncture wounds caused by a sharp object.
WRAL spoke Saturday afternoon with Reaves' cousin from Bennettsville, S.C.
“He [Reaves] was energetic. He was a go -getter. Like I said, he was just, just not a murder,” Levon Evans said.
The arrest was also surprising to Reaves' neighbors.
"It is very unusual for policeman to even drive down our street or make a circle through the cul-de-sac. For so many policeman to be here yesterday and all through the night, last night, it is very unusual,” neighbor Scott Nash said.
Reaves has a criminal past. In Durham, Reaves pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of obtaining property by false pretenses in September 2005, according to court records. He was ordered to pay $500 in restitution and given community service and 12-months probation.
Wake County Sheriff Donnie Harrison said Reaves and the victim did know one another. He said more information about their connection would be forthcoming.
"Through the investigation, we have found out they had met each other, and we are still looking into that," Harrison said.
Reaves began his career as a preacher at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church near Bennettsville, S.C., in the mid 1980s.
He left the church in 1987 after being accused of criminal sexual conduct involving a boy under age 17, said Pastor Earl Platt, the church's current pastor who succeeded Reaves.
Reaves was charged with criminal sexual conduct Sept. 3, 1987, in Marlboro County, S.C., according to court records. He was convicted of third-degree sex charges on Jan. 1, 1988. Platt said Reaves served time in jail for that conviction.
Reaves was also charged with simple assault and battery in 1982 in South Carolina.
Platt described Reaves as a "gifted preacher" who had a true talent for communicating with people. Platt said he hoped Reaves would start "doing the right thing" and move past the sexual accusations.
According to published reports, Reaves next surfaced in New York City, where he served as pastor at Cedar of Lebanon Baptist Church and studied at Elim International Fellowship. He resigned in January 2002 to establish Cedar International Fellowship in Brooklyn.
Platt said sexual allegations involving Reaves and a male minor also surfaced in New York.
Court records show that Reaves was charged again with first-degree criminal sexual conduct on July 13, 2002. That charge led to what court records described as a "non-conviction."
“That was his past. I thought, you know, he rose above that,” Evans said.
His cousin also said Reaves is a bishop at a church in Durham, but WRAL was unable Saturday to confirm the name of church.
New York state Rep. Edolphus Towns entered statements honoring Reaves in the state Congressional Record in March 1997 and June 2002.
"The Reverend is a visionary who is continually developing," a March 1997 tribute by Towns reads. "As a man of faith, Reverend Reaves is giving birth to a vision whose time has come."
Reaves' first court appearance in Wake County was scheduled for Monday.

I read "puncture wounds" in that one link. Maybe stabbed with an ice pick, screwdriver. Anyway, it's terrible. So sad. God bless her husband and family.

Raleigh — A Durham man charged with first-degree murder in the death of a North Carolina Central University student is scheduled to make his first court appearance Monday afternoon.
Robert Lee Adams Reaves, 43, was arrested Saturday morning in connection with the slaying of Latrese Matral Curtis.

See, he was convicted of a sexual attack on a boy under age 17. They never get better or over their sickness. Too bad this man was out on the street to get another victim. Once convicted, these perverts need to be locked up for life! JMO

Robert Lee Adams Reaves, 43, of 19 Birchcrest Court in Durham, was charged Saturday with first-degree murder in Latrese Matral Curtis' death. Motorists found her body near Louisburg Road about an hour before her husband, Darin Curtis, reported her missing on Jan. 30.
During Reaves' first court appearance, in which the judge also appointed an attorney to represent him, more than a half-dozen religious leaders from the community were in court to show their support.
The leaders admitted to knowing little about the case, saying they were there to offer their prayers.
"He's innocent until proven guilty, so, we're here to support him and his family," said Bishop William Spain, of The Glorious Church in Raleigh.
Harrison said the investigation is ongoing and that he has not ruled out the possibility of more arrests.
"At this time, I'm not going to say," he said. "But I can say this: We're still actively working this case."
How about showing a little support for the murdered girl and her family??? :rolleye0001:
Jones said he was unsure of how his daughter knew Reaves. Her husband said he did not know Reaves either.
"(I) never heard of him, never seen him before," Darin Curtis said. "It's a mystery why."
According to court records, Reaves worked at Okham Development Group Inc. in Cary as a clinical research associate from July 2006 to January 2007. That's when he was terminated for allegedly making $6,412.95 in unauthorized purchases on his company credit card, according to court records.
The company filed a lawsuit against Reaves in August 2007, and in November, Superior Court Judge Donald Stephens ordered Reaves to pay his former employer $19,069.24 for the charges, plus interest, attorneys fees and $10,000 in punitive damages.
He left the church in 1987 after being accused of criminal sexual conduct with a boy, said Pastor Earl Platt, who succeeded Reeves at the church.
Court records also show Reaves was charged with criminal sexual conduct in 1987, in Marlboro County, S.C., and was convicted of third-degree sex charges in 1988.
Reaves served time in jail for that conviction, Platt said.
I'll bet people start coming forward with stories about what this murder was involved in.

Durham, N.C. — An autopsy report released Friday showed that a condom was found with the body of a North Carolina Central University student who was stabbed nearly 40 times and found dead along Interstate 540 in Raleigh earlier this year.
Medical examiners also said Latrese Matral Curtis' hands were covered with brown paper bags that were taped at her wrists. They did not speculate on who had put the bags on her hands.
Her jeans also were unbuttoned and the fly was unzipped, the report said.
Motorists found Curtis' body near Louisburg Road about an hour before her husband, Darin Curtis, reported her missing on Jan. 30.
Robert Lee Adams Reaves, 43, of 19 Birchcrest Court in Durham, was charged with first-degree murder in her death.
The autopsy report also describes in more detail where Curtis was stabbed, including her head, neck, chest and stomach.
Toxicology results showed there was no evidence of alcohol in her system. The medical examiner listed the cause of death as “multiple sharp force injuries.”
Curtis, 21, an administration and management major at NCCU, was last seen leaving a class on Jan. 29. According to her husband in a 911 call, she called him about 10 p.m. that night to tell him she was on her way home.
According to search warrants police obtained, Latrese Curtis had been visiting Reaves' roommate, Steven L. Randolph, at his home on Birchcrest Court. But Reaves was not home at the time.
At 1:36 a.m. on Jan. 30, a North Carolina state trooper found Reaves' 2004 Chrysler Pacifica parked on the side of I-540 near the location where motorists spotted Curtis' body at about 7:30 a.m. There was no one in the vehicle, but according to the warrant, the trooper spotted a woman's sweater inside.
Reaves went to his church ministry after the slaying to wash the blood off his clothes and body, prosecutors said.
"Mr. Reaves may have been back to this location after this homicide to clean up and possibly destroy evidence that he may have been wearing during this incident," investigators said in a Feb. 2 search warrant for Cedar International Fellowship in Durham.
They seized two large metal trash dumpsters from the business complex, according to the warrants.
Another warrant showed that Curtis' cellular phone was used to call Randolph in the hours before her body was found.
Nothing in the warrants suggests a motive for the killing, however.
Reaves was a pastor for more than 20 years and faced criminal sexual charges in South Carolina and New York.
In Durham, Reaves pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of obtaining property by false pretenses in September 2005, according to court records. He was ordered to pay $500 in restitution and given community service and 12 months' probation.

RALEIGH, N.C. — Authorities say autopsy findings in the death of a college student has them investigating if she may have been raped before she was killed and dumped on the side of Interstate 540.
Medical examiners say they found evidence someone had sex with 21-year-old Latrese Curtis before she was stabbed to death in January.
Wake County deputies charged 43-year-old Robert Lee Adams Reaves with first-degree murder several days after the body of the N.C. Central University student was found. He has not been charged with any sex offense in the case.
Before he was arrested, Reaves served as a bishop with the Living In Favor Global Network Churches in Goldsboro.

Jury selection to begin in I-540 slayingSunday, September 20, 2009
RALEIGH (WTVD) -- Jury selection is scheduled to begin Monday in the murder trial against former Durham Pentecostal Bishop Robert Reaves.
Reaves is accused of killing North Carolina Central University student Latrese Curtis.
Curtis' body was found January 30, 2008 in the grass near the Highway 401 exit on Interstate 540. The 21-year-old's body was spotted by a passing driver about an hour before Curtis' husband, Darin Cutris, reported her missing.
According to an autopsy report released by the Medical Examiner's Office, Curtis died from, "multiple sharp force injuries." The report also revealed Curtis was beaten and stabbed more than 20 times.
Story continues belowAdvertisementRead full autopsy report [Graphic content]
Reaves was arrested and charged with Curtis' murder just days after her death.
In December 2008, prosecutors revealed Curtis was romantically involved with Reaves' roommate.
Prosecutors said Reaves was jealous, because he wanted to have a homosexual relationship with the roommate.
Other evidence brought out that month showed a car that Reaves and his roommate shared was on I-540 around the time the body was dumped. In addition, Reaves' own pastor and video disputed his alibi that he was at a church service the night the murder was committed.
Reaves has been in jail since a judge set his bond at $2 million almost a year ago.
Eyewitness News has also learned that Reaves had a prior criminal record that included an arrest on sex charges while he was the pastor of a church in South Carolina.
