Hi all you excellent moderators. We are blessed to have you. Question: Is there a way to tell what threads I've been on? I'm getting confused with the "N"s that I believe mean that there was a New post since I was last signed on; but is there a symbol that shows that its a thread I've visited like they had the small circle inside the open envelope on CTV boards? TIA.

Thank you & Good Morning. Is the Hot Thread envelope icon a different color 'cause I don't see the difference.

Re: Books~R~Us forum

There's only ONE thread called "What Are You Reading." In this ONE thread, everyone posts their favorite book(s). This ONE thread has now reached 21 pages. In order to find a good book to read, a person must scroll through and peruse that ONE long thread, and who really knows if book recommendations have been repeated...

On the CTV Books~R~Us forum, a thread was started for each book, allowing discussion/comments about that particular book. That certainly made more sense to me...

IMO

My suggestion would be to start a new thread in that forum if you have a new book to discuss, and hopefully others will take the hint.

That's why I made soap threads for all three networks.

Yesterday we were allowed to open a Chit Chat Thread over at the Open Discussion Board. When you get a chance could you please remove it or combine it with the already existing one on the Re-opened ANS Board. Thankyou for re-opening the board.

Boy, I hate sounding "stooopid", but....

I've never seen, nor can I find, that icon anywhere but here. Is there someplace that lists how many viewers are on a specific forum?

It's at the bottom of the parent forums page here: http://helpfindthemissing.org/forum/index.php in the 'What's going on' section. You can click the icon and it will take you to a sortable list of active users. Same goes for the other icons in that section.

Hope your doing well tonight Pat.

Since last night, the pages here are taking a looong time to load, and I haven't had any problems with other sites. I logged out, then back in, and it's still slow.

Just wondering if anyone else is having the same problem.

Thanks.

I am thinking it's the Amber Alert that was slowing things down... if they were having a problem with their site opening it took longer for ours to open because of the loading of the ticker.. I removed it to see if that was the problem.

From the techs... it's not just us that is slow.. there are many sites that are experiencing this.. This is in the email I received, hopefully they will find the problem soon.
Please send us a traceroute. There are currently no server issues
affecting page load times, but we have been receiving reports of
slowness to all servers. We're investigating network performance issues at
this time and the traceroute will help us troubleshoot this further.

ETA for those who don't know what a traceroute is... a traceroute is a run command where you do from your own computer and you put in the url of where you are having problems. This allows the techs to see if the problem is with your ISP or if it is on the server or somehwere in between.

This question is going to show just how tech dumb I am. LOL
We had been asked not to quote long posts. To just snip them. How do you snip a post? I know it is a dumb question, but I have no clue. LOL
The fact that I have learned to copy and paste is amazing.

quote a post.. leave in the
leave in part of the message.. then highlight the rest that you are going to snip out... and hit delete... make sure you leave in the
at the end.. and then just put your message.

What we are seeing is a lot of long posts quoted where the person quoting it only puts Great post or something short like that.

wheezer

Thanks for answering that(about the snipping). LOL
I feel pretty dumb for having to even ask.

I was wondering that if anything happens in the Megan Meier case, could we start a thread on it. Someone just posted that MySpace has been served with subpoena's. So just maybe there will finally be charges brought against these people.

Pauli

Hi to the best Mods on the Net!

Is it possible that a "page" (don't know the correct term) is missing from a thread?

Re "Dominism" found at American Issues/Politics. I think that some posts from yesterday are missing. Is that possible?

Pauli

It's possible some posts are missing, especially if they were rude/insulting to other posters.

it's happened to me in the past. I talked with Harlett on the day it happened to me, and it seems to be on my end.

Now I am getting this message,

More than likely it was on your end since no one else mentioned having that problem.

OK, well here it is...

I also tried the "browse" selection that you have for pics on my computer. I wasn't too crazy about that one, as it gives my real name on it (no offense). But, it couldn't be resized anyway.

LOL... I just answered in the thread.... it appears to be a network issue and not the server. This is the latest email I received from the technicians

Hi,

We have received several complaints about slow loading on our servers.
In every case, we have not been able to find any issues on the server
itself. This appears to be a network issue somewhere. Thank you for
your patience while we investigate the cause of this.

Regards,

Nick

This is not going to be a good day. I can't believe it. It has taken me 45 minutes to get back on the site. I tried on both of my computers and this site just won't loda. As I am typing this, it is still tring to load and bring up the smileys.

If someone could take my post and put it on the Admin.&Issues thread, I would appreciate it.

I tried to edit 2 of my posts from this morning and was unable to. Is there a time limit on how long one gets to edit a post?

(I misspelled the word "heard" in 2 political threads. Instead of the correct spelling, I spelled the word as "head." Is there anyway I can make the correction after the fact, and after an hour or two has passed?)

Thank you, Novice Poster

I need to tell you all who are responsible for this forum, my deepest gratitude.
You never know and hope one of your own family, friends or some unknown in your home town may be in a situation that is so stuck in the back pages of a newspaper, that this forum could indeed make a difference.

I try to check daily, amidst the general conversation, who are these small town people nobody would give a care about unless they were top newsmakers. I am more and more daily sickened by the lack of caring for human life.

One day it could be one of your/our own. Who cares, Thank You so much for making this happen with those who do care to make a difference for human life. Just too many......

Every time I have the Jensen trial thread open on my computer, my anti-virus software keeps blocking intrusion attempts. Today, I have had 8 attempts. It doesn't happen on any of the other threads. Does it have something to do with the imported smilies and photos?

I want to thank the Moderators who helped me yesterday, esp Pauli. My computer was running a little slower than usual, so I cleaned out cookies, history and temp internet files. Warm booted and cold booted. A number of times. Finally it got to where I couldn't access HFTM at all .. BUT I could access any other website I wanted and my computer was running normal again. Actually a little faster, lol. Luckily I had the email of a fellow poster who past on my problem to the Mods. Not sure who all helped, but I know Pauli worked on it quite a bit. I wasn't going to, but then did anyway, a Restore. I restored to the day before (it said that if the restore didn't resolve the problem I could undo it). Well it didn't work and it wouldn't let me undo. Then my virus protection popped up and said some of my settings were messed up and I could click on "fix". Fix didn't fix em so I downloaded the free "virtual technician" to help. I ran the program and it said there wasn't anything wrong. I went back to the virus protection window and it showed everything was fine. I rebooted again .. looked good, so I tried HFTM again to no avail. So I turned evrthing off and went to bed. This morning it was working. Not sure what happened .. never has before. Thanks youse guys! I owe ya.

All this just to say, it is good to have at least one person's email addy.
