View Full Version : WARNING!! Amber Alert HOAX About Ashley Flores Being Sent Out Again!!!

This is an old Internet hoax that started out as a kids' prank but has taken on a life of it's own. No matter how hard law enforcement personnel work at killing off this hoax, it continues to circulate through e-mail. When I received the message today, it just didn't look and feel right.
The flyer talks about the missing 13 yo girl and includes a photo of a young woman who, frankly, looks older than 13. The impassioned plea just didn't sound right.
So I called the number on the flyer, which connects to the Rolla Police Department. The automated answering device has a specific route to a recorded message where Officer Rick Williams tells us that the missing person story is a hoax.
According to Officer Williams, the hoax began in Philadelphia. How it morphed to Rolla is beyond me, but it did and the whole thing is not real.
If you get this email, please delete it and reply to the sender to tell them it is a hoax. You may refer to this post or to the Rolla Police Department website.

You're right - I had forgotten that I already read this on snopes (http://www.snopes.com/inboxer/missing/ashleyflores.asp).
The best we can do is try to head off anyone from passing the flyer, so that's why I started this thread.

I did not see this post until after I wrote HarlettOhara. I got an email about Ashley today and sent to everyone. Then I received an email about Evan Trembley, that sounded a lot like Ashley. I googled their names, and found out both were a hoax. I can't understand people doing this. Yes, I was a kid once, but would Never have don't anything so hurtful! Beware

My goodness but that is an old hoax. I noticed last year the email was making its rounds again. This one friend of mine has sent the thing to me two times. I called her on the phone to say, HOAX.
How can someone get a kick out of doing something like this? Makes no sense.

Hi Dreamfinder, welcome. :0012: It amazes me why people make up such a horrible thing as someone missing.

Reminds me of a few months ago I got an email of a sick child and the childrens parents were passing the email around for tracking purposes and receiving x amount of cents per email. The father was a LE down south somewhere and I called. They did have an office of that name and he had a child by that name but the child was perfectly fine. The things people will do just to get some giggles.

I received it as well and came to this board right away, didn't see it posted, so I thought the Amber Alert was an old one.
Unfortunately, my friend passed the alert to probably 12 other people, besides myself.

It's horrible that people do this and thinking it's real it's gets passed on by various recipients who, when they find out it's a hoax, are less likely to forward and actual Amber Alert when they get it.

I always check the news outlets to check on them. Some people have too little brain power, and too much time on their hands.

:groan:
Got another one.
It never ends. This email has a prayer chain at the end with ppl hitting forward, adding their prayer, home town and sending on.
I hit "reply all" and gave them the low-down and the link to snoops.
Gee whiz some things just never stop.
Wish we could keep one going that long on a "real child" that is missing! Think about it!
