Thought I would start this thread since it is on tonight. Watched it some but hated last week when James got voted off. I haven't been able to get into it this year like previous years. I do like the challenges though.

After last week and James getting voted off, I don't know who to root for anymore! I think it's going to be Denise, but I am still mad at her for not warning James. I guess I'll have to get over it, cuz there are really no others I would even consider!

He knew that just a couple of tribal councils before, he had 3 votes against him. He should've never felt comfortable enough not to use the Idols after that happened, especially since he had two.

That would be Marcellas...Removed that blonde girl from the block and got put up as replacement then voted out. I gotta say, being that James is from about 20 miles away from here, I was rooting for the "hometown" guy. With him gone, I think I'd rather see Denise win. Not saying she played the best game, but at this point, I'd much rather her win than anyone else.

I found the mullet to be a turn off when I first tuned in this season but I like her as well. Especially that accent. I was happy to see her husband on the show with her, too. I have a feeling that the students at her school adore her as the lunch lady.

I totally agree with you there. I was PO'd when they booted James...I could never play on that show because I just don't have what it takes to stab someone in the back like that. I understand it's a game and it's about who plays the "best" but still.....I was really annoyed that Denise didn't warn James - he would have definately had her back if she had done that. But that said, I think she's the most decent one left and it was really nice to see her with her hubby and talking to her daughter on the phone. It was nice to see the softer side of her and I hope she wins. I don't care for any of the others that are left besides her....

Awww I loved Marcellas! It's always my favorite people that get booted and stabbed in the back on these shows. I always swear I'll never watch another season but somehow, I always come back for more punishment....er, entertainment.

Yes I caught the welfare comment too.

I fell didn't like that Amanda lied to Denise about having her back. The show is still on here and I'm hoping that Denise is going to win that popularity money.:yes2:

I agree. This was the most boring season ever. I really didn't care who won so long as it wasn't Courtney. She was hard to look at. But either way, I couldn't seem to bond with any of the players this season. Todd winning was better than nothing...lol

Ugh...I was bummed that Todd won. I really thought Amanda had it, but she fell apart at the end. She didn't plead her case very well in front of the jury. And although Courtney was painful to watch throughout the season, I though she did a pretty great job in front of the jury. I half expected her to win!

I was pondering that myself. If it's actual favorites and not the most successful, or whatever... will Rupert get a third chance to play?

Other true favorites would be Colby and Kathy Vavrick O'Brien. Both of them were also on All Stars.

On the “Survivor China” television program that aired on December 16, 2007, Mrs. Denise Martin, an employee of the Douglas Public Schools, stated that she was demoted from her position as a cafeteria worker upon her return from taping the show. This statement is false. In fact, Mrs. Martin held a full-time position as a custodian prior to her participation in the series, and she returned to this same position upon her return from China. Mrs. Martin was granted - at her request - an unpaid leave of absence so that she could participate in the “Survivor” program. We were pleased and excited to support Denise, and have enthusiastically cheered her on throughout the duration of the show.

Although Mrs. Martin was a cafeteria employee prior to her selection as a contestant, she asked to be considered for a promotion to full-time custodian, and was promoted to this position on March 30, 2007. This promotion came with additional benefits and a higher salary. Following her leave, she then returned to this same position.

Regretfully, the Douglas Public School District was inaccurately portrayed as failing to be accommodating to an employee during what the District viewed as a “once-in-a-lifetime” opportunity. This is far from the case. On the contrary, we granted all requests made by Mrs. Martin so that she could participate in the “Survivor” series. Since Mrs. Martin was on an approved leave, her position was held open for her, and she returned to this same position upon her return from China. As a District, we make every effort to support our employees, and will continue to do so.

The only one of the people that are listed that I don't want to not be on there is James from the last season. It would be really nice to give him a second chance on the show and see if he goes any better and if he gets the idol to actually use it this time. :67302:

I was reading elsewhere about the Denise thing and someone had a very good point that hadn't even occured to me. Did Denise actually use the word, demoted?

Is it possible that what she was really getting at was that she'd lost the ability to work the day shift because she was a distraction to the kids? So now she has to work nights and can't spend any time with her family.

Granted, that's not even what I'd consider a horrible position. Tons of people have to work like this, My daughter and SIL, for example. She works days and he works nights so that one of them is usually with their daughter.

It was a good premiere last night, one of the better ones in my opinion. I never expected the favorites to be beaten quite so quickly as happened last night. It will be interesting to see if the fans can keep winning.

Okay, we'll get to the Fans, we'll get to the Favorites, and we'll get to the earliest quit in the history of Survivor. But first, a quick programming note. A lot of people have been writing in asking whether CBS would be bringing back the Survivor Live Internet interview show. The answer is no. It's dead. Dead, I say! But for those of you looking for a little postmortem with the booted (or in this case, quitting) contestant, we've got the next best thing rocking at ew.com. Okay, I think we're all out of shameless plugs, so let's get to the season premiere of Survivor: Micronesia — Fans vs. Favorites. While I obviously want to get into some of the stuff that happened on screen, since I was lucky enough to be there for the first three days of filming, I thought I'd also clue you in to some things that didn't make the final cut.

Although maybe we should start with a person who shouldn't have made the final cut of contestants: Jonny Fairplay. Talk about going in with bang and out with a whimper. Wow, was that a huge letdown. Half the buildup to this season — created by Fairplay himself — was the big battle between him and Probst, and that's all he brought? Seriously, that's it? Probst, who didn't want Fairplay to come in the first place, had the last laugh after all. I honestly don't get this move. I spoke with Fairplay two days before the game began, and he was hyped beyond belief. This was his chance to reclaim the spotlight, to prove he was, as he told us less than 30 seconds into tonight's episode, ''the greatest player in the history of the game.'' Instead he came off as all style, no substance.

But let's back up to the very beginning of the episode. There's Jeff Probst in a helicopter. He's talking all about the big twist of pitting 10 superfans versus past favorites and...wait, what the hell is going on? He's now climbed outside of the heli. And it's still in the air! Don't jump, Jeff! I'm sorry for making fun of some of your hats. I apologize for insinuating you may have gone too far in pushing Janu to quit. I regret that time I wrote a whole paragraph about your wearing sunglasses in the rain! But it's not worth it, man! You fall to your death, and then what? We end up with Phil Keoghan and some native on a mat saying, ''Welcome to Micronesia.'' Phil's good at explaining what the heck a roadblock is, but c'mon....

Luckily for us, Jeff stayed put. And then the Fans were dropped on a beach and watched the Favorites be introduced one by one. And what did these morons do? They clapped! And not just clapped, but whooped, hollered, and screamed as well. I don't get this. Hello, this is your competition! Did the New York Giants give the Patriots a standing ovation before kicking their collective ass in the Super Bowl? This was the same starstruck attitude the newbies displayed in Guatemala when Stephenie and Bobby Jon showed up.

There was one awkward moment that did not make it on screen however. I was at the marooning, and while it was hard to hear a lot of what was going on, what with all the cats and dogs falling from the sky, a curious exchange between Kathy and Ami took place. Evidently, Kathy almost made the final cut for Vanuatu. When Jeff asked her about that at the marooning, she made some comment — and I didn't catch the exact wording — about being happy she wasn't there because of something having to do with Ami being a lesbian. Again, I didn't catch it entirely, but it was definitely a borderline-type comment, so I wasn't surprised at all to see her back at the Fans' beach later talking about not having any gay friends.

Of course, Ami and Kathy's confrontation was nothing compared to what we saw between Fairplay and Yau-Man. As I mentioned in my EW story, the producers couldn't have scripted it any better — the ultimate battle between good and evil. They both lunged for the immunity idol, and then Yau slammed Fairplay's head into the side of a boat. Watching tonight, I thought I heard thunder outside my window at that very moment, but it was merely the simultaneous slapping of high fives all across the East Coast.

What we saw back at the camps was not surprising. The Fans had no idea what they were doing, while the Favorites were constructing a shelter, making fire without flint, and swimming around in ''pee water.'' We also didn't see any strategizing among the Fans, while the Favorites were aligning into groups of four. There was the lovebird foursome, with two couples, Parvati (who was identified as a ''charity organizer'' — insert your own joke here) and James and Ozzy and Amanda, pooling their respective hotness, while on the other side you had Eliza, Ami, Penner, and Yau joining up. Cirie was seemingly too busy talking about being the girl on the couch to do much of anything.

Going into the challenge, it appeared that the high-spirited Faves were poised for a rout, but appearances can be deceiving. A few interesting things about this challenge. One, of course, was Eliza wiping out when her cart banged into a tree. I know it makes me a bad person to like to see people get obliterated in physical competitions, but I just don't care. Plus, I wiped out at the very same tree when I did a run-through of the challenge the day before. In fact, the stupid cart almost ran me over! Two other things you did not see on screen. First off, there was a whole other section of the challenge that got edited out. Before the tribes had to bash their cart through the wall of sticks, there was a section of tree stumps that had to be moved out of the way. (In the run-through, they were tied together with ropes, but they got rid of the ropes for the actual one.) Another nice tidbit: Jeff Probst had to stop the challenge at one point when some of the Favorites attempted to start sabotaging the Fans' cart. That's a no-no, and they got a stern talking-to from the host-with-the-most and suffered a brief time penalty because of it.

The Faves lost and headed back to camp, and then Bizarro Fairplay reared his head. (I knew something was amiss when he stopped referring to himself in the third person.) It was almost as if a switch had been pulled. Cocky trash-talking Fairplay out, weepy mature Fairplay in. The question isn't really whether he was being a crappy dad-to-be by leaving his pregnant fiancée behind to go play. The issue is figure out whether you want to be there or not before you actually go there! Don't waste a space in the game — a space that could have gone to Shane Powers or Yul Kwon — just so you can ask to be voted out on day freakin' 3. Fairplay promised fireworks and delivered a dud. He said he would humiliate his archnemesis Jeff Probst, but he quit before he even had the chance.

Perhaps most bizarrely of all, not one single member of his tribe would call him out for quitting. Was it a quit? Of course it was a quit! Here's the thing to remember: Fairplay didn't walk off that tribal-council set and go straight back home to his unborn baby. He went to the so-called Losers Lounge, where contestants go after being booted, and sat around there until about the merge, at which point he was sent on another trip somewhere else until the game was over. So quitting the game did not get him home one second faster. The message out of all this to CBS and the producers: You play with fire, sometimes you get burned.

Oh, seeing as I have a three-season winning streak of picking the winner from the very first episode, the pressure is really on for me to get Micronesia right. I'm going to cheat a little bit by following the theme of the program and picking both a Fan and a Fave. For the Faves, I'll actually pick Cirie, only because I can see the other groups of four trying to pick each other off and her flying under the radar. For the Fans, I'll go with Alexis. She strikes me as someone who will hug you with one arm and stab you in the back with the other. I'm not feeling nearly as good about these picks as I did about the last three, though. I'll be very curious to see what Fairplay has to say for himself when he stops by Survivor Talk. Tune in to find out. And thanks, as always, for stopping by!

Okay. Big Survivor fan here who bailed during the one before China. I didn't like any of the players and I hated the set up where one tribe had a couch and a bathroom and the other had zilch. The couch tribe kept winning competitions and I got bored and annoyed. Swore off Jeff and Co.

Then came this new season. Curious to see who they brought back, I tuned in and soon was hooked.

Johnny Fairplay is an even bigger idiot than we first thought.

Voting Mikey off and keeping Chet was a HUGE mistake. And last night it bit Joel in the butt. What an asshat!

And to keep Chet? This group is too stupid for words. But it figures that a bunch of experienced Survivors would be super political and very clever.

Best one out there is Ozzy, no doubt. Very smart to find the idol and create a faux one. A friend said to me, "Is that legal?" I don't know of any rule against it and I will bet the producers wanted to kiss him when he did.

And soon, it seems, someone finds the fake idol. Oh, man!!

So this is a good season and I am glad I tuned in. Especially now that Project Runway is done and I am not watching Idol since the Sanjaya string. Ugh.

We didn't get to see it but apparently Chet couldn't have gone along with the "Let's blindside Ozzy" plan even if he'd wanted to. the medics were going to pull him before the immunity challenge.

He also needed surgery, on his foot. He'd been taking anti biotics for a week and they had done nothing to stop his infection. (just like Jonathon's) He'd gotten a piece of coral in his foot after the football type challenge.

I'm predicting a Cirie win. It's just looking that way to me.

Ami was sure that Amanda would stay loyal to Ozzy (she's right) so she figured it might actually work IF she told Amanda and Cirie that she and Tracy would vote for Erik if they agreed to do the same. That way, there would have been one vote for Tracy from Ozzy. Two votes for Erik from Amanda and Cirie, and THREE votes for Ozzy from Ami, Tracy and Erik.

Tonight just proves my theory that us women are just plain mean....manipulative and mean. I know exactly why they did it...but still. I think they would have been smarter to get rid of Jason while they had the chance - he can beat all of their butts in immunity and he gave it up this week. They could have voted Jason out this week while they had the chance and blind-sided Ozzy next week.

OK...so my favorite moment of the night was during the immunity challenge when James was kinda chuckling that the two "fans" had dropped the ball and let their buckets slip...and whoop....right in the middle of that chuckle he was having, he realizes....oops...his bucket was slipping! Too funny! I guess it's pretty obvious at this point that James can do no wrong in my eyes and when he screws up, I find it cute and endearing. Yes...I'm totally biased when it comes to James. Anyone else had done that, I'd have been laughing at them...but James...yeah, he pretty much gets a pass from me.

Tam....you are so right about this being Cirie's game - she's the friggin puppet-master this season and is sittin' pretty. They don't even think she is a threat at anything as evidenced tonight in the reward challenge....wow.

Last night's episode was great. From the challenge when they dropped their buckets by accident, and looked so shocked & pissed that they didn't get the cookies & milk, to James saying during voting, "I thought I was the dumbest survivor." Not to mention the priceless shocked faces when Ozzy was voted out! I friggin loved it! :67302:
Cirie is playing the best game of Survivor I have seen. She has the whole tribe under her control, has for weeks, and they don't even know it!! Perfect! I don't care for her, I am not rooting for her, but she honestly deserves to win if she keeps this up. I am completely impressed.
I am rooting for James, just like I did before, but I have a bad feeling he's not long for this game. I think Cirie is going to set her sights on him & if she manipulates things like she has been, he's gone. Poor James. Maybe he will find the immunity idol, IF Ozzy left it hidden somewhere....

I got so excited when that last "Ozzy" vote came up, I think I peed a little. :grin: Ozzy apparently didn't realize how cocky he was being. That's why Cirie was sure it would work, as long as they didn't tell Amanda, James or Erik. (did you guys go watch the Ponderosa videos at CBS? Ozzy was so angry at first he flipped off the camera and they had to bleep his audio interpretation of his middle finger! He did calm down eventually)

Even if the girls alliance split the votes just in case Jason played the Idol (which they did) couldn't the other 4 have beat whatever the split was?

I thought for sure James was going to tell Jason. I was shocked that he didn't. Why is he just allowing the girls to take over the game? Yeah - I had to turn away too...and I hate turning away when James is on the screen....but I had nightmares last time the bat soup showed up so I had to cover my eyes.

From what I can tell, anyone that James was remotely aligned with (except for Parv & Amanda) have been booted. Of course, Parv has turned on him and who knows about Amanda. Last night, as I see it, would have been a great opportunity for Amanda, James, Erik and Jason to turn the tables and weaken the female alliance. Yeah - I had to turn away too...and I hate turning away when James is on the screen....but I had nightmares last time the bat soup showed up so I had to cover my eyes.

From what I can tell, anyone that James was remotely aligned with (except for Parv & Amanda) have been booted. Of course, Parv has turned on him and who knows about Amanda. James doesn't have a strategic bone in his body which makes him not good for this "game" but probably a very good friend to have. Yeah, I enjoyed it too. I think the thing is that when men play this way, we hear all about how this is a game and how they are a mastermind at it. When women play this way, we hear how they are bitches and that they're nasty. Women are supposed to be kind, loving, supportive and not strategic. It's crap! These women have run this game to win... why is that wrong?

I want Cirie to win because overall, she's played the best game. She may be shut out because physically she's not the best at challenges, but damn, she's the best at this game strategically. we'll see on Sunday. The best player doesn't always win.

I don't think Erik ever caught on. He is a sweet but naive person. He lost much like Jason did but for different reasons. Jason's hubris made him blind to reality. Erik's naivety made him blind to reality. Ozzy's arrogance made him blind to reality... I'm so looking forward to Ozzy's Lex like meltdown, I can't even express how much.

I would have liked Amanda to win not Parvati and after that possibly Cirie, it was so disappointing that Parvati did end up winning after all the scheming and plotting she did.

Yeah, I was disappointed. I still think Cirie was the best player and if it had been a F3, I think she would have taken it. Amanda expressed it well enough when she said that Cirie could talk you into things.

It was a really good season though!

Next time they go back to Africa. That's going to be a tough season I think. Though I'm not sure that where they are going is as hard a place as where they were before. I'll have to check it out.

Well Eliza pretty much confirmed it all at Survivor Sucks. If Cirie had been a contender at the final Tribal Council, she would have won hands down.
