Wow! You guys up so early or so late...Good morning!

Bringing this over from last night's----

How do y'all think the break in testimony in Jambois' cross of Dr R will play out? I thought Jambois was on a roll yesterday when he was going after the esteemed http://bestsmileys.com/signs11/17.gif Dr R.

Will this break give Dr R a chance to come up with a good story?

Will the break give Jambois time to check with other experts to challenge Dr R?

Despite the nattering yesterday on Tru which was overwhelmingly pro-defense, I do not think that the break favors the doctor. In fact, I think it helps Jambois who prolly did not have advanced notice of what carp Rumack was going to spout.

And now he has had a couple of days to go over it, get help from a toxicologist so he can cross him properly.

I think he has a wealth of ways to show what piffle he was trying to sell the jury, for example:
*AF tastes ACCRID (he already started in on this line)
*JJ "wasn't that sick" (contradicting MJ & DJ's words)
*no evid. of symptoms of stage 2 EG poisoning except for hyperventilation (when there would be no way to know of the other symptoms -- she wasn't in a hospital! MJ is NOT a doctor for cryin' out loud!)

Dr Rumack also conceded she had EG in her blood. So what the heck is he saying--- She wasn't that sick but she had EG in her blood and crystals in her kidneys and she could have gotten up and around that day she died and she could have dosed herself with more AF which is not sweet but accrid, so couldn't have been hidden in juice or JellO?

THIS IS P I F F L E and I think Jambois is going to devastate him on cross and reveal him to be a Central Casting Charlatan for Hire.

Hi Pallies

kellabeck
02-07-2008, 08:08 AM
I am trying to figure out what Dr Rumack was trying to tell the jury.

Yes, she had EG in her blood and yes, she died, BUT she only had one of the 4 symptoms of stage 2 EG poisoning (which is piffle), her blood urea nitrogen (BUN) was normal, there was no evid. of renal failure (and yet there were calcium oxalate crystals in her kidneys!)

He testified that her BUN (blood urea ntirogen test which measures how well kidneys are working) was normal, there was no evid. of renal failure, no oliguria (decreased urine output) b/c she had 150 ml. in her bladder, flank pain (SHE'S DEAD. HOW WOULD WE KNOW THAT?) and hematuria, calcium oxaluria and anuria-- no blood in urine, no crystals reported in urine (DID THEY LOOK?) and "she was not anuric" and hypocalcemia was not measured.

He is basing this on, one presumes, the amount of urine in her bladder at death. I looked it up. The adult bladder holds 250 to 300 m. So hers was 50 to 60% full at death.

When was the last time she urinated? Do we KNOW that? We KNOW that there was none found in the bed or on her clothing. We know that she was lying there since dawn, or wake up time anyway, at least 8 hours. Did he say anything about her getting up during the night? I don't think so. I think she would have needed help to get to the bathroom in her condition.

Counting backward, might she not have urinated for 18 hours? If that is the case, how could that be? If her kidneys were not functioning normally, not producing urine anymore, would that not account for her "anuria."

What is his evidence that she had not stopped urinating?? The presence of urine in her bladder?

I think his testimony was total piffle. I would love to hear from someone with medical knowledge. All I have is google and common sense.

gramvof14
02-07-2008, 08:15 AM
Well Kella I think that common sense is what the jury will use in my opinion.:happy0207:

To me, his cross was quite scathing. he made some great points bringing out MJ giving statements of Julie's being unable to get out of bed. The defense clients own words contradicts what the Dr said.

That's the basic gist of the cross I thought too; using Mark's own statements to impeach the doctor's "findings". Everything the witness testified to went against the defendant's own stories, the note to the teacher, the phone call from Mr. Mangi and the phone call with Julie's brother---

It's going to be Mark's own voice and words that nail his coffin shut

Your analysis was great!!! I think we will see more from Jambois today that will call into question this Toxicologist's analysis of the reports and the evidence in this case. Paid experts are just that. Paid to manipulate the data to favor the defense.

A trooper is on this morning, headless, just chest and hands showing. I do not know where the jury is sitting in that court but when they were on break yesterday, it showed the witness chair and it didn't appear the jury would be seen if they show the whole body view of witnesses.

So true about the MJ trial. As to Cutts, he makes me ill. The thought of that poor baby being alone for all those hours horrifies me. Bad enough what he did to Jessie, but to leave Blake like that is to me what puts this way over the top in terms of heinous.

The "good" doctor doesn't even have access to a lab, hasn't for 10 years. He doesn't test anything...he just looks at test results from those who actually do run the tests.

Sherbie, Jack isn't that big...he's only going to be about 30-35 pounds when he's fully grown...not a lap dog, but not big.

Back on topic $500/hr for reading test results. (about $4600 so far and he hasn't billed the defense for the last 6 months yet)

Being a hired gun sure pays well! hey Kara did you see my dog? SHE is bigger than your Jack...she's 80 pounds or so.

Jack is huge to me -- don't think I've ever had a dog that weighed over 12-15 lbs, tops! LOL

Yeah, $4600 "so far" -- I can only imagine what that bill will top out at. I'm sure it won't approach what we saw for the experts in the PS trial, but still, a very handsome living for what I imagine is not very intense work.

According to MJ statement, he allowed the kids into see his mom that morning, but she was so weak he had to propr her up for them to hug her. So, I don't think it was Julie who got them ready.

Exactly what I remember. I'd like to see MJ explain why he got the kids ready...that would be interesting - because together with the rest of what he told everyone of her condition he would have to admit that he believed she was really ill ... and that goes back to the question "why didn't he get help for her?"

I don't understand the benefit of Dr. R claiming she was possibly faking. How would that have helped her carry out the plan they claim she had? If she was able to get up and about it would have obviously been a much better plan to make out like everything was OK so MJ would go straight to work and would not be tempted to call 911 (although we all know he wouldn't have anyway). Plus, why would she want him to have the kids as witness that she was sick if she was truely trying to make it look like murder?

Their story is so lame and Dr. R has just made it that much more ridiculous.

Just my opinions.

I'm so happy Mr. Jambois is going over the absorption of EG. I was just thinking about this all~ the number of doses and timing of EG ingestion~

I was watching the testimony of Dr. Rumack last night and am not sure it is terribly inconsistent with the prosecution in terms of EG being ingested sometime between 2:30am-8am on the morning of Dec 2. This corroborates the neighbors testimony that she sounded drunk on the morning of Dec 2 at around 10am.

According to the prosecution, via Dillard's statement, there would have been another dose on the evening of Dec 2? And possibly on the morning of Dec 3, because of the 1/2 tsp (2.5mls) found in her stomach at time of death.

I don't know that any of this really matters, as there is no dispute that EG WAS found in her system. I'm not sure, based on the EG evidence alone, that it can be determined whether JJ took it herself or MJ gave it to her. I think all of the OTHER evidence, particularly the internet poison searches, his lying about going to work, and keeping the kids outside after school, suggest he gave it to her.

But, I'm left with lingering questions none the less. If there was only a single dose given between 2:30-8am on Dec 2, how do they explain away the 1/2 teaspoon still found in the stomach some 30 hours later? I just don't think they can simply dismiss it.

And, today Mr. Jambois is discussing the amount of time it takes to be absorbed by the stomach.... and it is 30minutes to a couple of hours. So, why is there still 1/2 tsp some thirty hours later?

And I guess this is where the vomiting potentially comes in. The defense said the ratio of EG to its metabolites (low EG, high metabolites) suggest that there was an earlier ingestion... back on Dec 2 early morning... but no recent ingestion. Well, what if JJ's vomiting on Dec 2 explains why it doesn't show up as a recent ingestion. The other question I have is amount. MJ could have given her a bigger dose earlier, and the later doses were smaller? Lots of questions... but still... in the end... I think the details of dosing won't matter much. I think they will determine that MJ gave it to her, based on the OTHER evidence in this case.

Hiya KD!

I tend to believe the doctors that actually did the tests and examined the body over these doctors that read test results. There is NO WAY they can give a good opinion by READING about it.

I'm hoping Jambois puts the doc in his place this morning. Wouldn't doc be sooooooooooo embarrassed by a lay person knowing more about this case than he.

Worst, this doc SIGNED a statement stating Julie committed suicide by ingesting EG!

I saw on the news last night that there was a semi truck accident in WI close to Ill line that took 8 hours to clean up due to the weather.

Corny, that is the cutest/funniest avatar.
You are a constant source of entertainment. And very responsible too.

About that accident: the roads were bad last night. They were plowed, but the wind was the big issue, it was strong west-east, right over the flat farmland, and drifting was a huge problem.

2 friends of mine came over to warm their hands before they venture into town. They said the roads aren't that good, bumpy with snow and slippery.
I'm going nowhere today. I don't do slippery and bumpy.

I intend to try to listen to the good doctor get crossed by Jambois. Just please don't let it get too number-y.

I'm sure he'll get to that. On TruTV some guest was saying how great it was to take JJ out of this, and focus on "the science". So, I think Jambois is just showing he can match the science, and then raise the stakes to cover Mark's statements about JJ inablity to function that morning.

I concur, SC.
I do not think the jury gets much out of the "analytical stuff" either.
Maybe that's because I don't, I don't know, but I think many people would find it mind numbing and wouldn't retain enough of it to use in deliberations.
