A 6-year-old boy and a MARTA bus driver are both recovering from minor injuries after a bus accident and beating.
A MARTA spokesman tells 11Alive News the bus struck the boy on Westmont Road in southwest Atlanta around 7:30 Wednesday night. When the driver got out of the bus to check on the boy, witnesses say bystanders attacked the driver, hitting him on the head.
No charges have been filed in either the accident or the beating.
This driver was trying to do the right thing and check on the kid when he is attacked and they file no charges???!!!! Excuse me! The people who attacked the driver should've been hauled off to jail.
I have a young son. You have to hold on to little children while around busy streets. They will dash into traffic with no warning. It's just being a child.

ATLANTA -- A 6-year-old boy was hit by a MARTA bus in an incident that also saw the bus driver hospitalized after he was assaulted, officials said.
The accident happened around 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in southwest Atlanta, police spokesman James Polite said. Details of how John Edwards was hit by the bus were not immediately available, but witnesses told police he was dragged about 20 feet.
When police arrived they found Edwards under the rear of the bus.
Neighbors told WSB-TV Channel 2 reporter Ashley Hayes that buses speed through the neighborhood.
"They come down this street too fast," said Charles Jones, a friend of the victim's family.
"They drive way too fast," agreed neighbor Christina Bryan. "All the cars, all the buses; they drive way too fast on these roads."
The boy was taken to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston, but was expected to recover.
"The boy will be fine, mostly just cuts and bruises," Polite said. "He's scared to death more than anything."
The bus driver was also taken to Grady Memorial Hospital with head injuries after being assaulted by witnesses, said Joselyn Baker, spokeswoman for the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority.
I've got a wild idea here...do the legal thing and petition the city to reduce the speed limit AND mandate that LE enforce it. Then go a step further and have parents actually watch their children.

I suppose if I were the bus driver, I'd rather take the beating from a stranger than the one from myself... poor dude... I'm glad he and the kid are going to be ok!!
I'm confused at how he could be dragged for 20 feet by a bus though and walk off with cuts and bruises... can someone help me with that? And being under the back of the bus at the time indicates to me he was hit by all those wheels?! really?!
I did see some idiot put ehr little rat dog down in a parkinglot by Petsmart once. The little rat ran out under an suv and rolled along the undercarriage but wasn't hit by the wheels. It ran out from udner the truck after it stopped barking at it in true little ankle biter fashion (it was kinda cute, relaly and we were so relieved it wasn't dead!!) so I have seen a fluke where everyone was ok, but this is on a huge scale!! Bus v. 6 year old... what a wild story!

From the photos, it was dark outside. What the hell was this kid doing in the street after dark much less. Maybe the mob should have beat his parents instead.

This entire story sounds crazy to me. Why is a kid this age out trying to cross the street? Where were his parents? Why would a mob try to beat up the bus driver? What is going on?
Just glad the child will be ok and hope the bus driver will not have permanent damage from head injuries. What a mess! The mob should be arrested for battery and attack. JMO
