Anyone remember Jim Jones and his followers who were made or willingly swallowed cyanide laced kool-aid back in 1978?

no reason. I read so many good books by people who actually witnessed this horrible tragedy.
I recenly saw a documentary on the day of the murders, and one older woman just hid under her bed and was saved that day. I just wonder why more people didn't do this as well? Or ran out into the woods to hide.

One of our local Native American Tribes lost nearly 3/4 of their tribe in Jonestown.
I have often wondered if Jim Jones really died there, as there was not DNA then, and it was reported that Jim Jones had 'body guards' that looked a lot like him; IIRC his boat was missing as well.

this is exactly the reason I brought this old case up.....for people who have info like Tracian just posted.
I never heard of this, Trace. That he had bodyguards that looked like him. I think he died. I think he had some kind of illness that he was diagnosed with before he died. Does anyone remember this?

The documentary I viewed was excellent. I think it was a cameraman who survived being shot and spent the night in the jungle until help arrived the next day.

Yahoo answers had some discussion on this, a few there don't think Jim Jones died and made reference to his 'body doubles'.
A lot of years ago I remember hearing on KGO, I think (I am 40, but my mom loved talk radio, and we listened often), a discussion about Jonestown, and there was a major debate between those that think Jones died and those that think he took the money and is living high on the hog somewhere; I will try to do some more research on this subject.
Thanks for starting the thread...could lead to interesting discussion :)

That's what i was hoping for....for people who might have had friends/relatives who were part of this cult and praying that they escaped before the masacre.
I think that if Jones had escaped, he wouldn't have been able to keep that bloody know-it-all mouth of his shut. He'd have given himself up long ago. Just an opinion.

That depends on how smart he was...and how greedy, and of course what country if alive he now calls home...

wouldn't you see him trying to start another new cult? I don't him as a man being able to be quiet and live a simple life...

I see him as a con man...and a 'good' con man knows when to 'cut' his losses.
I mean, look at some of the Nazi war criminals...they laid low.

If I remember correctly, some of the members did try to run out in the woods but were shot down. There were some people who went over to visit and see the site (one was a politician) and some others and as they were getting on the plane or in the process they were shot and killed.
