This is becoming an epidemic

Whether it be social networks, chat rooms, email or other forms of electronic communication there is no doubt that the epidemic of online predators is a nationwide problem that continues to escalate. The internet has become the play ground for pedophiles that will stop at nothing to satisfy their lust for children. Being inappropriately contacted online can happen to any child anywhere regardless of class or social status. The results of this contact can have devastating and deadly results.

To prove this point the following is a result of many hours of research. The list below is a brief description of one story from each state involving adult’s that have been arrested by law enforcement in online stings while seeking out children for sexual contact. Using these fifty examples will only pale in comparison to what is going on all day, every day across our nation. We would like to thank all the dedicated people in Law Enforcement for their ongoing efforts in combating this enormous problem and taking on this daunting task. We are extremely grateful to know that through their hard work an actual child has been spared.

Here are fifty reasons why to encourage children and adults to add Law Enforcement to their top friends list. Giving our children a voice, breaking the silence, and putting our priorities in place is the only way.

Alabama Man 63: Traveling to meet 14 year old girl.
Alaska Man 25: Offered house keeping chores to have sex with 4&5 year old
Arizona Man 44: Luring 14 year old
Arkansas Man 28: Traveling to meet 14 year old Girl (Child Pornography)
California Man 54: Sent child pornography to 14 year old (registered sex offender)
Colorado man 47: Traveling to meet 12 year old Girl (Child Pornography)
Connecticut Man 40: Traveled to Colorado to have sex with mother and 9 year old Daughter
Delaware Man 37: Invited 12 year old girl to his home. (Child pornography from infancy to 15 years)
Florida Man 33: Terrorized and threatened hundreds of young girls to send nude pictures online.
Georgia Man 63: Sent lewd pictures to 14 year old girl.
Hawaii Man 38: Lewd conduct online, made phone calls and sent airline ticket to 15 year old girl.
Idaho Man 30: Used Law library Computer to have sex chats with 16 year old girl.
Illinois Man 27: Traveling to meet 14 year old girl.
Indiana Man 28: Traveling to meet 15 year old girl.
Iowa Man 26: Traveling to meet 14 year old girl.
Kansas Man 34: Traveling to meet 14 year old girl.
Kentucky Man 63: Traveling to meet 10 year old girl.
Louisiana Man 43: offered to travel to meet 14 year old girl.
Maine Man 27: Traveling to meet 13 year old girl.
Maryland Man 28: Traveling to meet 14 year old girl.
Massachusetts Man 40: Traveling to have sex with a 3 and 12 year old girl and 10 year old boy.
Michigan Man 52: Traveling to meet 14 year old girl. (Convicted murder)
Minnesota Man 30: Had sex with 15 year old girl he met online. (Repeat convicted sex offender)
Mississippi Man 30: Had sex with 14 year old girl multiple times he met online.
Missouri Man 25: Traveling to meet 13 year old girl.
Montana Man 46: Sent Child Pornography to 16 year old girl.
Nebraska Man 33: Traveling to meet 13 year old girl.
Nevada Woman 33: Convinced 15 year old girl online to runaway to be husband’s sex slave.
New Hampshire Man 37: Traveling to meet 13 year old girl.
New Jersey Man 30: Traveling to meet 15 year old girl.
New Mexico Man 52: Arranging Sex with 15 year old girl.
New York Man 53: Offered to meet 15 year old girl.
North Carolina Man 35: Traveling to meet 13 year old girl.
North Dakota Man 21: Luring a 14 year old girl online.
Ohio Women 32: Offered free tattoos online to lure children for her and her boyfriend.
Oklahoma Man 45: Exposing himself online to 13 year old girl.
Oregon Couple 27/22: Offered drugs to have sex with 5 year old girl.
Pennsylvania Man 49: trying to arrange sexual tryst with mother her two girls, ages 7 and 9.
Rhode Island Man 61: Traveling to meet 15 year old girl.
South Carolina Man 52: Exposing himself on line to a 13 year old girl.
South Dakota Man 22: Convicted of rape of 14 year old girl he met online
Tennessee Man 47: Enticing 14 year old boy to commit sex acts online.
Texas Man 50: Exposing himself online to 15 year old girl.
Utah Man 44: Arranged meeting with 15 year old boy online.
Vermont Man 37: Arranged meeting with 14 year old girl online.
Virginia Man 60: Lewd conduct online with 13 year old boy.
Washington Man 54: Arranged meeting with 13 year old girl online.
West Virginia Man 35: Offered cell phone for sex to a 13 year old girl.
Wisconsin Man 38: Arranged meeting with 13 year old girl online.
Wyoming Man ?: Traveling to meet 15 year old girl.

Harlett: Its past being an epidimic. Folks need to (1) get involved with their legislators and stay on their back about changing laws (2) parents, stop being a best friend and be a parent and monitor your child's use of the Internet and know where they are going and keep up with who they are seeing (3) add parental control software to your computer. So what if you're kid gets upset and hates you? Its better to an angry child that is alive instead of one that is dead (4) educate yourself and your kids about Internet Predators (5) sometimes schools are allowed to have speakers as special guests who can talk about the Internet and what to look for (6) regardless of how much time you think you do or do not have, get involved in your child's life or one day they may be only a memory.

Kids w/cell phones (1) block Internet Access and for that matter, consider blocking texting. (2) availability of Internet and Texting makes it super easy for Internet Predators. (not to mention kids that are of age to drive not only talk on the phone but text while driving.(3) Have your kids program on their cell phones ICE and an emergency # to reach you. The kids should already know about 911.

These are a few suggestions for everyone.

Amend laws

Laws must be amended to provide mandatory and longer sentences for offenders.
Many are given probation under current laws. This makes the problem worse; encouraging offenders and endangering more children.

Contact your state legislators.

I was talking to a Psychiatrist the other day in line at the store, who treats these perverts and he told me there is no cure. That given the chance, they will re-offend again and again. We need stronger laws and sentencing. Plus, parents you must get involved in your childrens lives. Kids do not need cell phones with access to the Internet. That prime way for these perverts to access the kids. Internet and texting should be blocked. IMO
