When does this end??

I'm not sure it does. I'm 57, and I still get them now and then. Sometimes my skin is so oily, I have to wash my face about three times a day. Fortunately, the doesn't happen so often anymore.

anyone tried proactive?
I have had more issues with pimples since I moved in with my bf and sleep on his chest sometimes... I really like to cuddle, but I wanna look good during the daytime, dangit!

I was thinking of trying this too...
My mom used to tell me that as you get older, your homones do not produce the oiliness in your skin and pimples don't happen. By this age, I don't remember her having pimples!
And I'm not on ANY kind of hormone pills...so what gives?
Oh, and by the way? I look like the wicked witch of the west today! A HUGE RED honking zit on the tip of my nose. I'm not kidding!
I just want to do this, :71526: today!

ah man rockford... you know you're the only one that was fixated on the damn thing all day! I hate them on my nose too though... almost as bad as I hate them around my mouth... anywhere near my mouth that people could speculate might be herpes LOL.
Do you sleep with your head on hubby's chest? Is there a more breatheable pillow case you could be using?
My mom still gets stuff here and there and she's not on any hormones either... I though birth control was supposed to help that, but I still flair up when it's period time and when I'm stressed.

The reason is that god hates you, and it ends when you die.
(JUST KIDDING!!!! It won't end when you die.....)

1) you can choose to put stuff on it after it starts, to clear it up.
2) you can choose to prevent it.
I don't think a pimple now and then is acne. Anyone can get a blocked pore and get one anytime. But a "breakout" of several, going on more or less all the time is more like acne. Acne in higher age groups can really be rosacea, and that is treated a bit differently.
Since you have had a hysterectomy, I'd get a hormone level run for androgens. These are male hormones made in the adrenal glands. Androgens are the main cause of adolescent acne. Both men and women have them.
Prevention includes
zinc = very important--a good version is OptiZinc and easy to tolerate
folic acid-- 800mcg/day
essential fatty acids (good fats=flax oil, fish oil, canola)
avoidance of bad fats (trans and saturated)
Vit A in moderation
Vit E (a good natural version)
Selenium
(A, E and selenium can be found in a good multivit)
If you have a really oily face, you can try using a little isopropyl alcohol once a week on those areas. Too much will defat the skin and make it more likely to have a zit. But a little once a week will remove stubborn oils that may be deeper in the pores.
Do you have those little dry bumps on your legs and arms (they may be pinkish)? They are typical on the backs of the upper arms and backs of the thighs. If you have these bumps that is a sign you are not getting enough good fats in the diet. And that would be a good place to start prevention. The skin is made up of fatty acids and if you don't eat them, the skin cannot repair itself.

Everyone is right, I don't think it ever ends.lol However Origins makes a spot treatment and beside the saliclic acid,it has Oregano and Clove Buds, smells nice when using, works great for me. It is really odd I didn't have any problems as a teen only as I got older did I get this problem..Lucky me! Good luck and I am sure no one can see them but you! :girl_haha:

My little cousin got some proactive in December, it has really cleared up his face a lot. It'd probably work faster and better if he used it all the time but he's 15.
I rarely get any blimishes. I've had more in my late 20's (30) than I ever did in my teens. I get maybe a small one when the hormones come out.

I was told that a benefit of oily skin is that you don't get as many wrinkles and you look younger. Yeah, right...you look younger 'cause no one can believe someone my age would have a zit.

I have rosacea, but it used to be only redness. Now it's pimples.

I know it sounds crazy but I swear this works. Take 4800 mg of fish oil per day. I take 2/1200mg in the morning and 2 at night. I have discoid lupus which affects my skin terribly, and my son had a bad case of acne during his last year of high school. His doctor suggested that we both give the fish oil a try.
Within a month, I wasn't having the red irritated lesions and my son's acne had cleared up. Plus, the fish oil is great for your heart and kidneys and it's also helped my RA. The type you get now doesn't give you that fishy aftertaste and my skin is not any more oily than before I took it either.
