LEE COUNTY— The Coast Guard has called off the search for a cruise ship passenger who may have fallen overboard. Fifty nine year old Jill Begora disappeared Saturday morning from Royal Caribbean's Jewel of the Seas. The news is heartbreaking to Begora's family.
Dennis Begora first reported his wife's disappearance Saturday afternoon, just a short time after the cruise ship pulled into Nassau.
The Coast Guard searched both from the air and from the water. Monday morning, after finding no leads, the Coast Guard ended the search.
The cruise line issued a statement Monday about their search efforts. It states they had "The ship retrace its path sailing into the port. Ship staff also called in two additional cruise ships sailing in the area to assist in the search, but Mrs. Begora remained unaccounted for."
"I hope they find her," said Tom Begora, cousin of Dennis Begora, of Fort Myers.
Begora learned about the search for his cousin's wife Sunday afternoon.
"It's just too much to comprehend. I hope everything is alright but you know how these things are sometimes. I don't know. I don't know," said Begora.
Begora says Jill is a mother of two.
Sadly she now joins a growing list of people who have disappeared at sea.
"I just got back from a cruise myself about three weeks ago. You kind of wonder you're on a ship with so many people and you kind of get lost. You wonder if something can happen," said Begora.
The FBI is now involved in the investigation of Begora's disappearance.
