Belly fat cited for more strokes in women 35-54

Our country is so over-weight. If we don't become more active and watch our weight, I really believe strokes might become common with kids. Kids are already having heart problems and diabetes 2. JMHO

Texas, it is due to lack of physical activity and what we allow our children to eat. Just walking in a grocery story..all the dang sugar...the cereals, the sweetbreads, the snack packs, shelves and shelves of cookies and crackers, ice creams...Those things used to be occasional treats but today kids are getting four or more from that junk. Then when offered fresh fruits or vegetables they turn their noses...It is our fault!

You know..when I married ..37 years ago...my husband and I decided never to have a television in our home. We raised five sons. They would ask at times if we could get one..It would be discussed and dropped. You know what? Because it was never here, they never really missed it. It wasn't like a punishment. It just what "was"...I have never regretted it. (We did by the way...have two computers..but under supervision)

I was going to post this today on it's own but I will do so here. This work-out system has really worked for me and I think it will help others too. The instructor is Debbie Siebers and she is great and her dvds are amazing. I have lost 5 lbs in over a week and trimmed my waist and feel great. Doing these dvds along with a healthy diet will change your life, guaranteed! I particularly loved 'Shape It Up', 'Tone It Up', 'Firm It Up' and the rest, Cardio Sculpt, etc. All you need is 3 and 5 pound weights and a work out band with handles.

I don't like those loud crowded classes at the health club and these can be done in your living room in an hour.

I use the Leslie Sansone Walking DVD's. I have to have my left knee replaced soon, and by using these DVD's, I can modify the steps involving my left leg/knee. I also so Pilates. I have lost tons of inches and its helped me lose weight. Once I get my knee replaced, then I'll graduate to Debbie's DVD's which involve high cardio. In fact I have the set but can't do them yet. I do use the Scuplting though.

This is just off the top of my head - no links - but I read recently that belly fat in women MAY be associated with stress....SO stress = belly fat = stroke.

I have belly fat (yes, I've been stressed now for about four years) and I am not fat any other places.:0009:

It also known that belly fat (and obesity) contributes to the onsets of diseases such as breast cancer, heart disease, diabetes and other diseases.

I watched a Gastric Bypass on the Health Channel, and the fat around our bellies looks like thick mounds of chicken fat! Really!

I've watched lipo procedures and fat is not pretty!

I'm old enough that I shouldn't be TOO concerned about how I look, but in order to get rid of my "belly fat" I'll have to diet. Of course, the first places I'll lose weight will be in my face, boobs, and legs......I'll have lines on the side of my lips (_), rolls under my chin, no boobs, spindly legs and in general, look like a mudslide has taken place.

SO.........I have really thought about asking my doctor about liposuction.
Seriously!

Liposuction can help....for now. But if old habits are still present (not eating sensibly fried fatty foods, not exercising, etc.), the fat can/will come back. Worse, you may find you may have heart disease down the road.

I've been doing 2 miles walks for the last 2 weeks 5x per week with my walking DVD's, and my belly fat is already going down and I can really tell a difference. I admit that I was lazy when I started out and made excuses to grab something to eat on the way home. But now its a matter of my life. I can't do it anymore and actually, I'm starting to fill better (except the knee I have to replace soon)IMO

You are to be commended for your efforts! Good luck with the replacement surgery.

Thanks! I hope to be really walking soon! :) (not hobbling). If someone told me to run for my life right now, I would be SOL. :serious:

Good luck on your surgery, Texas! this artical has scared me to death! I don't want to die from belly fat. I don't have much, but what I have needs to be taken care of. I don't need to lose weight. but I could use some toneing up. I have dumb bells, a health rider, an incline bench, a really nice treadmill. I have no excuse except that I get bored doing it by myself. You'll probably laugh when I tell you this. But back in 1984 I won 1st place in the light weight division of body building. It was the great northwest tour. I took 3rd over all. I know my way around a gym. I've worked out with some massive people. all striving for the same thing. I only competed that one year. It is so hard. and what you put your body through to be on stage is rediculous. I was buff. but soon work took over and the gym became a part of my past. But, I still have my pictures. I took it to the extreme. as I do in everything. I ate healthy when I was training. I could make breakfast, lunch and dinner for under 800 calories. and it was nourishing. I really don't see that many obese people. how big do you have to be to be considered obese? I see women with meat on their bones. but not obese. I had a friend that was 5'10 and weighed almost 200 lbs. and she looked great. she was a foot taller than me. I haven't seen her in years so I don't know what she looks like now. But the stroke thing scares me since I'm on a anti seisure medication.
