I just watched a short video of Iggy's testimony and caught something he said. When asked about the email txt that Shawna sent to Heather, he said it was a photo of "the baby Christian' -- the baby. Not my son. That makes me mad. How cold toward his child!! And also the reporter said when she became pregnant in 04 she had an abortion. With his agreement.

Then he acted like he wanted to cry when talking about being told his wife was dead.

His father also knew he had fathered a son with Nelson.

Shawna has to be a dumb lady. I can't believe she was actually a cop's wife! She made jailhouse call to her sister, Debra Smith, on Feb. 4 and asked her to sign on to destroy internet evidence (pictures). Her sister told her she could get in trouble and apparently since no pictures from the site Pix Place had been deleted, she didn't do as Shawna asked.

Ken Nelson, Shawna's husband, had filed for divorce in 05 but they reconciled when she became pregnant (this must have been her pregnancy with Christian) ... he at that time was working for Weld Co., SO.

http://www.thedenverchannel.com/news/10965727/detail.html

According to the Tribune, Weld District Attorney Ken Buck requested to withdraw from the case, citing that he "has reasonable basis to believe that the District Attorney's Office for the 19th Judicial District cannot continue to prosecute this matter."

Citing several sources, the newspaper said the reason for the withdrawal was that because it could create a conflict of interest if a Weld County prosecutor had been involved with the suspect's husband.

The story of Michelle Dawn Moore is really interesting!!

She not only conspired with Shawna but was also a Weld Co. Deputy and living with a police officer from Greeley, Timothy Young.

Shawna's actions has changed the lives and destroyed so many.

In this article, there is info concerning Shawna's other threatening activities to rivals that she threatened to violently deal with.

Also in another instance that Nelson said she would kill the dogs of a Weld County prosecutor who was dating her husband.

This woman is nutso and needed help!! I am surpried the defense isn't using the mentally ill defense. She does have issues and apparently has for a long time. She can't deal with losing!!

What is it that's so "off" about Iggy? My first thought was Asperger's. He doesn't seem to be able to show proper emotional response. I've seen the term hinky to describe him but it seem like more than that to me.

And...what on earth did these women see in him? Even with some of the recent "bad guys" on trial lately....I could kind of see what the women might have found to be desirable. With Iggy I can see absolutely nothing.

:mornincoffee:
I don't know. But the gun wasn't. Her husband pulled her over after the shooting and it's believed he got rid of the gun. I've been reading the affidavits looking to see what all they confiscated. No mask mentioned yet that I can see. Of course, it doesn't mean it isn't listed on one of them. LOL

I don't know if it's the cop in him or just him period. They can become rather hardened to emotions.
When he testified and acted like he was about to cry when telling of being at the hospital with his daughter and told of Heather's death, it seemed off to me. Too controlled or something. But again, that could be the cop in him.

The way the affidavit reads, they do have the mask. The Pros probably brought it out when he questioned witnesses on the stand who witnessed the shooting. The fox video wasn't all that great. We missed hearing some evidence due to that. But, Fox said they are working to improve that too. :)

Albert Einstein said: Life is sacred, that is to say, it is the supreme value to which all other values are subordinate.

I think people like Shawna and Mark Jensen put themself above life, and forgot that personal pleasures, wants and needs are subordinate to the lives they took and to those still living who they victimized such as the children and families, friends and all others.

This case just gets more and more of a conundrum. Ken Nelson heard the call when he was at work. He and another officer, Hulsey, left the PD and headed toward Nelson's house. Enroute, they saw the truck with Shawna driving and pulled it over. Both officers exited their vehicle ( I assume a police unit) and went up to the truck. Ken began yelling at Shawna then left her with Hulsey and went to his home to check on his children.

In the meantime (while Ken was headed home) another officer arrived and found Hulsey with Shawna. He noticed the dark clothing she was wearing and that she wasn't wearing shoes.

Later, after a search warrant was granted to search Ken and Shawna's home, a pair of black shoes were found on the roadside close to the residence. These shoes are believed to belong to Shawna and are the shoes LE believes Shawna wore the night of the shooting.

However, the truck was towed after the third officer arrived where Hulsey was with Shawna. The gun wasn't found inside the vehicle. Nor was her shoes.

I'd read that it's suspected Ken got rid of the gun. But, that gun missing and Shawna's shoes being found near the residence means Shawna went back home before she was pulled over by Ken and Hulsey. So she could have gotten rid of the gun too.

Ken stated that Shawna told him she had sold it to someone. When and to whom is the question of the day. LOL

The affidavit part two lines all this out. When Ken resigned from the department, he turned his gun in along with his badge. But it wasn't the murder weapon.

Hi all!

How's your Saturday treating you--so far? Well, I hope.

And TP, I so agree with what I'm reading as your sense of exasperation with "people like this."
I'm exasperated with these people, too. They are self absorbed as adolescents and teenagers are self absorbed. They are completely careless and mindless to the consequences of their selfish actions. They are everything I taught my daughter not to be, not to aim for, not to value, not to aspire to...yet here they are, and in deep trouble for an act of murder upon one of their own.
These people recognize no boundaries when it comes to getting what they want. And they sure as heck lack the ability and moral capacity to create boundaries for themselves.
So what have we here? One murdered woman, at least 2 maybe 3 (?) small children as collateral victims--and a bunch of other pseudo adults like Luigi or whoever testified yesterday (Ignasio/Iggy), all typically claiming to be the victims in this mess they created.

I don't know if there is/are any "good guys" in this scenario. I have to read more, but as soon as I begin, I get angry at the "players" all over again.

This is sort of like watching a stage play unfold, but as you sit out in the audience, you begin to wonder which character you are supposed to applaud, because all of them are equally unlikeable.

Ugh.

Shawna had planned on killing Heather the day before she actually did. This is according to Michelle. Michelle was going to be at Shawna's home and Shawna was going to drug Ken with Ambien so he would be sleeping. And Michelle was going to be there with the kids while Ken slept as an alibi and say Shawna was taking a bath if anyone called. However, Heather had left work early that day and the plan fell through.

Since the murder didn't go down on 22nd., the two went out to dinner and Shawna told Michelle she was going to carry it out the next day. Shawna told her: when I call you tomorrow and tell you
I am taking a bath, you will know it is over. And Shawna did do that. Michelle knew she'd killed Heather.

IIRC Michelle was at work when Shawna killed Heather on the 23rd.

I surmise that Shawna went back home after the shooting, disposed of the shoes (and possibly the gun) left and headed to the liquor store she used as an alibi.

I listened to one broadcast from last year and the reporter said Shawna's oldest child actually had his karaoke sound up high to tell Mom while she was bathing (because she'd told the kids she was going take a bath and left to shoot Heather instead) that her favorite TV show was coming on in 30 minutes. I forget the TV show's name.

Conspiracy to commit first degree murder
and
Criminal intent to commit first degree murrder

these charges stem from the 22nd intent to kill Heather .. Heather had left work early that day.

I agree, she could have kept her plot secret from Ken, but her past dealings with external marital affair should have drawn a red flag for any LE employee.

I have watched Snapped quite a few times. Most of those deal with spousal or BF/GF murders.

Thanks for the article! I'll keep a look out for this one to see how well they document it. TV always adds a spin from different perspectives that makes you say, I don't remember that happening or being said that way in court.

IMO she did it just to be vindictive. The papers from her lawyer was asking him to relenquish all rights to the child. She'd already sent the text to Heather with Christian's pic with the message Iggy's flesh and blood.

How right you are! Who needs a dating service! :girl_haha: One is sitting in units supposedly protecting the public! It's what you call Internal. Keeping it in the family. Boys in blue family... I do have respect for cops but when a few go bad it looks bad for all. That isn't fair but it's a fact.

Iggy had told her he couldn't afford child support and wasn't paying any. Shawna wanted to keep him, to torment him, and IMO that's why she told Ken the baby was Iggy's and forced Iggy to tell Heather. When it didn't cause Heather to leave Iggy she took her revenge on Iggy a step further. Shawna knew his heart really belonged to Heather and his daughter. (That isn't to say I don't feel he has a degree of responsibility in Heather's death and that's something he has to live with the rest of his life).

Shawna and Ken were separated when she became pregnant with Christian in 05. They reconciled when Ken discovered she was pregnant. At that time I guess he assumed the child was his. Sad sad stuff. Two different LE agencies involved. Too many cops and even a prosecutor involved in this whole affair. (Ken had a relationship with the Pros)

It's better viewing than a daytime Soap Opera!! LOL

So far, I haven't seen where DNA test were performed but the pic of it looks like him. Of course, that could be because I assume it's a fact.
And too, before she could get legal papers for him to relinquish rights, she'd have to prove the child was his. Or so it seems. So DNA may have been performed.

Heck! he could belong to some other cop! She had a habit of affairs! :67302:

"The defense argued that Nelson did have an affair with Ignacio Garraus, but on the night of the killing, she was across town, driving to the liquor store."

The defense failed to mention that SN was shoeless with holster, amunnition, black mask and dressed in dark clothing, matching vehicle fleeing the scene.

Now I can discount the holster and ammunition.[cop stuff]
Not the mask, dark clothing, being shoe less and vehicle match.

Yeah, and that's a sad sad defense. Surely she can't seriously think it's believeable since her best friend has turned state's evidence against her. Michelle Moore is going to be a witness I want to see on the stand. She tried to lie in the beginning and later recanted and told the truth.

"Moore had previously told police that she had no knowledge of Shawna Nelson's alleged involvement in the killing. But on Nov. 14, Moore disclosed the new information to police. Nelson's trial was slated to begin next week, but her lawyers argued successfully to have it postponed while they studied Moore's statements."

Yeah, the blood alone would have shock value. I don't think CPR would help at that point anyway. I looked for a autopsy report for the bullet angle and trajectory in the body evidence. But haven't discovered it on any of the sites I have read on. I hope she died instantly. The idea of her suffering is horrific to imagine.

i just have to say.... i am still finding it rather difficult to "get into" another trial... MJ still too fresh on our minds, i suppose. well, for me, anyway.....

Usually a trial like this one doesn't interest me. Cut and dried we know she murdered her lover's wife. But like Friday I will have it on as background noise as I tend to mom and post when I get the chance. I'm not used to chat boards so the one they had up Friday was interesting to me for awhile.

But since there are no other live trials that I know of I guess this one will have to do. :0009:

i posted upthread that i'm sure it was because of all the blood, and the horror of it that no one could give mouth to mouth, and the fact that it would do no good. just seemed like the 911 operator really didn't know what to make of it, that's all. i'm sure i would've declined to do it myself--it was probably obvious that she was dead.

Summary of witness testimony at this page. It includes the testimony of the Heather and Iggy daughter.

http://www.greeleytribune.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=200829656968

"Victim's 10-year-old daughter testifies

The small frame of Victoria Garraus settled in behind the microphone.

The 10-year-old resembled the photo shown earlier of her late mother, Heather Garraus, who was killed on Jan. 23, 2007.

Friday morning in Shawna Nelson's murder trial, Victoria , wearing a brown dress and white sweater, quietly spoke into the microphone about the last conversation she had with her mother.

It was just a simple question about her homework, but her mother was able to help over the phone.

Later that evening, Victoria answered a different kind of phone call. A call for her father carrying the tragic news that her mother was dead.

Victoria recounted for jurors that day's events. She testified that she spent the entire afternoon with her father, Ignacio Garraus, eating ice cream and grocery shopping. Victoria said she went home and worked on her homework while her father cooked hamburgers. When the call came, she went with her father to the scene."

Yeah, and that's a sad sad defense. Surely she can't seriously think it's believeable since her best friend has turned state's evidence against her. And the fact that when her husband and Hulsey stopped her and the thrid officer arrived she had no shoes!! She was going in a liquor store with no shoes? Yeah, right!!

Not to mention, that Winter was one of the coldest we have had in Colorado in a while. I checked the weather for January 23, 2007. Around the time Heather was murdered, the temperature was 26 degrees. By the time Nelson was arrested, it had dropped to it had dropped to 19 degrees. I doubt seriously she went to the liquor store barefoot, or any place barefoot at that time of the year.

yeah, i was trying to figure out if she actually went to the LQ store... at least ONE time, to help establish her alibi.. like did she walk in the store, and then act like she forgot her purse?? and then leave to go do the deed? cos it seems that i read somewhere that she went to the LQ store at 6:05pm????? anyway, LQ stores such as that one usually have cameras, so it would be easy to check if she ever did go the first time. but i don't think she did. her story is such a crock!! i mean they've got witnesses that it was a female voice that said "get on your knees" and that it was her same build.... and she sped off in a truck that fits the description that ppl gave!! sheesh! plus she had already told her friend that she was gonna do it... with that code thing about "taking a bath".... geeeezzz , that doesn't even cover alot more stuff... like the clothes she was wearing, etc..... this is a total no-brainer!! the def must have NOTHING to work with!!

Baranis

BamBam, her original alibi was Michelle Moore. When prior plan failed, Shawna went into just do it and make up things for false alibi's. Busted big time.
I wondered about the Liquor store and it appears that this store would have a sign reading, no shirt, no shoes, no service. Package[hard liquor] stores are strict.

It seems that Shawna needed to show her time as innocent. Such as going to Liquor store and have to go back home only to return. Look at the map, odd that the liquor store is mid line between crime scene and home. Hence her statement that she had forgot her purse.

When Shawna left the crime scene she ran west then south, got into the truck and drove off south. When she was arrested, she was on 20th Street near a house. Whether that house was near her own, I don't know. The Liquor Store is 4681 W. 20th... at the corner of 47th Ave... Interesting.

I read a lot yesterday but couldn't find exactly where they found the shoes, just that they were near her house.

You know, the affidavit says Shawna was taken in the night of the shooting and the truck was towed. And article I read stated: Police found the suspected shooter in her car outside a home on 20th Street and booked her into the Weld County Jail overnight.

Something is off with all these stops. Where she was when Ken and Husley stopped her - And where she was when she was arrested. (And she never left that scene because Husley stayed with her)

You know what is sad about the child's testimony to me. She was testifying for her father more than against Shawna. She told them what she and her dad had done all day, and that he was home with her cooking hamburgers when the call came in. Alibi for him.

I am ready for this trial to commence because I want to know more about all the internal situations with Shawna. I feel it is a shame that her lawyer went with the she was at liquor store when the shooting went down and not a mental defense. But, I guess Shawna insisted she was innocent and then when Michelle came clean about the plot to kill Heather, he was stuck with it.

I hope she gets a good defense. Her lawyer was rather monotone Friday and didn't seem real impassioned about the defense to me. I don't think they ever looked at anyone but her as the suspect, and that may bite them in behind too. It'll be interesting to see if this case heats up.

I don't think Iggy thought during the time he was with her that she'd resort to murder of Heather but I do believe he, her husband and numerous others knew she had a propensity for violence.
