ORLANDO, Fla. -- Investigators are searching for a woman on Thursday who was videotaped while spraying a girl with a pressured water hose at an Orlando car wash.

Surveillance cameras captured the woman holding the girl with one hand and holding the hose in the other hand at an arm's length distance.

Marlene Diaz, a manager at Magical Car Wash, said she has never seen this type of abuse before.

Investigators said they believe the child is 3 years old.

The driver of a white Hyundai Sonata shown in the video watched the woman spray the child for a moment before walking away.

The video showed the child trying to hide her face while the woman pinned her to a wall and sprayed her at close range.

Diaz said she also heard the mother say, "You're going to learn to respect me. You don't treat me bad. You don't mistreat me; I'm your mother."

Surveillance cameras showed the women stripped the girl, leaving her standing in the car wash bay naked, while they grabbed a towel and put her back in the car.

Just sad...Sounds like she had an accident in the car and she took her there as punishment...The article states it is like getting a rug burn. The poor baby.

And that's supposed to make her respect her mother? More like fear her (more).

I hope they identify and punish this woman.

For goodness sake, she's only 3 y/o, a baby. How is that going to teach that child respect?

Some people just don't need to be parents....

I do hope they track her down....

I hope they find these women and take that little girl away to a better home.

MTV had a show where a guy was getting married and his buddies were doing all sorts of stuff as a last hoorah. They put him in one of those self car washes in bra and panties and pounded the water on him.
This outdoories, grown male had red welts from the pressure and the cold water.
I can not imagine what this little girl had.

In the video, it looks like one woman is watching to make sure no one sees what the other one is doing to the child.

Someone will know who they are, if the video is played often enough.

The pressure in a car wash hose is so great, it could easily blind a small child like this little girl not to mention the possibility of broken bones or worse.

Some women shouldn't be able to reproduce!

ORLANDO, Fla. -- The mother who was videotaped while spraying her 2 1/2 year old daughter with a high-pressure water hose at an Orlando car wash told authorities she did it because the child was throwing a tantrum.

She told authorities she did not have the hose on full blast, and that it isn't as bad as it looks.

The mother said she had used this type of punishment before with a spray bottle.

The mother saw herself on TV late Thursday afternoon and called deputies. She called deputies and said they could come to her apartment to speak with her and see her daughter.

Marlene Diaz, a manager at Magical Car Wash, said she has never seen this type of abuse before.

"You don't do that to a kid," Diaz said. "No child deserves that."

The video showed the child trying to hide her face while the woman pinned her to a wall and sprayed her at close range.

"Disgusted," Diaz said. "I'm mad, infuriated as to how someone could do that to a little child."

Officials said the water shoots out of the hoses with a force of about 1,200 pounds per square inch, powerful enough to create the type of friction and sting from a rug burn.

"Your skin gets red and at times it could peel," Diaz said.

"That's a pressure washer, that's meant to be used on a car, not on a child," mother Carol Felicicano said.

Diaz didn't see what happened until she checked the surveillance tapes, but said she heard the girl crying after the mother stopped spraying her.

Diaz said she also heard the mother say, "You're going to learn to respect me. You don't treat me bad. You don't mistreat me; I'm your mother."

Surveillance cameras showed the mother stripped the girl, leaving her standing in the car wash bay naked, while they grabbed a towel and put her back in the car.

The Department of Children and Families said the child was taken to a medical facility for an evaluation. DCF said it will do a home study to figure out what to do with the case.

Investigators said the mother could face child abuse charges.

Possible child abuse? The child remains in her care? Ummmm..if a preschool set up a high pressure hose and used it to teach toddlers not to throw tempers, would it be allowed? If this woman is willing to do this in public to teach a lesson...I fear what she may be doing privately. Maybe pushing her head into a tub of water?

If the mother is reading this board..here is a lesson for ya. Toddlers throw tempers. They are usually thrown when the baby is hungry or over tired. If a toddler is throwing tempers at other times, it is time to start looking at what you expect of a toddler. More than likely too much and way out of their age range.

I hope we don't read about this poor child ...being found dead. How sad.

Great post, Suman. She really needs some parenting skills.

All of us have gotten aggravated with our kids from time to time, but she's the only one I've heard of punishing them with a pressure hose.

That was one of the hardest videos to watch I have ever seen. Absolutely disgusts me!

Public pressure must have made DCF to reconsider. The baby is no longer with her mother but with her grandmother. The mother may see her under supervision. I hope they stay on top of this.

ORLANDO, Fla. --

Ramirez was arrested and charged with child abuse on Friday.

"Just because we don't remove the child doesn't mean we're turning our backs on this family. I assure each person who saw the video and was alarmed that we will not turn our back on this child," Carrie Hoeppner of DCF said.

DCF said it can work with the family and offer other counseling services rather than permanently separating the child from the mother.

"Removing a child is an extremely tragic experience for the child. We do that only when there's no other option. We do all we can to help the child, and not all cases require removal," Hoeppner said.

DCF said it is likely the child's grandmother will have temporary custody of the toddler as the state monitors the situation.

Ramirez will be allowed supervised visits with her daughter.

Good. And while visiting, they should watch the child carefully, to see if she has any fear of her mother.
