Five years ago, I had my last chemo for Breast Cancer. Five years ago, I started taking Arimidex (chemo in a pill) and today was my last pill. These type of drugs are not supposed to be taken past the 5 yrs mark. Six years ago on August 29, 2002, I had my lumpectomy. I will be donating the remainder of my unopened Arimidex for Breast Cancer Patients in need.
For women who do not have drug care and insurance, the cost of this drug is $267 for a 30 day supply. There is no generic drug in place of Arimidex or in place of many other cancer drugs.
Many women cannot afford mammograms, and most often when they do have a mastectomy or lumpectomy, they cannot afford meds needed or follow up visits. Breast cancer is not limited to women, but can also be found in men and young women as young as 15. Yes, you read correctly!
So please, if you can, make a monetary donation for continued research to the American Cancer Society or the Komen Foundation in your local areas. Scarves, hats and wigs make great donations. The American Cancer Foundation usually has a "make-up and dress day" once a month for women who are undergoing treatment. They are shown how to apply make-up, provided wigs, scarves and hats and it helps them realize, they are still attractive and viable people.
Today is a new and scarey day for me without the "security blanket" of my Arimidex, but another new chapter in my life. :happy0207:

You'll be just fine. And thank you for donating your meds to those that really need it and can not afford it. My aunt had breast cancer that has now spread. Another aunt also has cancer.
You all are so strong!

I am so happy for you!! I finished my chemo in August of 2005. I have never been sure how to count the survivor time. I have been saying it has been three years since they took that nasty stuff out of my body! Feb.17,05. Mine was not hormone whatever so I could not take the other meds like you took. Don't know if that is good or bad. I had six chemo treatments and 33 radiations treatments. I thank God it is over. I thank God yours is, too. You are so sweet to think of others with your meds. I remember complaining about my porta-cath and a young breast cancer survivor said she could not afford the cath and the chemo burned her veins. I didn't complain anymore. Well, only to myself. Without insurance I would not have been able to get the Emend for nauseau either. We have lots to be thankful for. Hope you are still celebrating!:basic44::basic44: Late but celebrating with you today!

Thanks! I consider my anniversary date the day of my lumpectomy, August
29, 2002. I had the porta-cath and my radiations were 33. I only got real sick on Chemo #3 and #6. The last chemo I had mouth ulcers so bad, I couldn't eat and barely drink. Now if I get really stressed out, I get mouth ulcers. On my radiations, my right side where I had the lumpectomy felt like bad sunburn near the end of those sessions. Back during that whole time it seemed like I was poked and probed in places I didn't even know I had! :)
I lost about 1/4 of my right breast. So now I have "Big & Little". After I went through all of that, I wouldn't have plastic surgery if everything I have left was to fall to the floor! I'll just pick it up and keep going. :D
Something else I didn't know but found out through my Podiatrist is that people who have had chemo, sometimes have fungus of their nails and toenails. I have to see him because I'm Diabetic 2 and we got into a discussion about that. This latter is just an FYI. :)
Thanks to everyone. I wanted to share with anyone who has had or might be diagnosed. Also to remind anyone, please give what you can for Cancer Research or BC Patients. Again, hats, wigs, scarves, etc. are appreciated and help.

A belated CONGRATULATIONS to you. My mother is also a survivor. Next month it will be ten years since the mammogram that opened the door to her journey.
It's obvious that you're very strong and have made it through a nightmare with a loving heart.
