FORT COLLINS - A judge has sentenced Michelle Moore to the maximum prison sentence for her guilty plea in connection to the Shawna Nelson love-triangle murder case.

Moore made a deal with prosecutors on Feb. 26, pleading guilty to being an accessory to attempted first-degree murder of Heather Garraus, in exchange for testimony that helped convict her best friend, Shawna Nelson, of first-degree murder in the case.

Moore was accused of helping Nelson plot the murder, including advising her to leave misleading evidence at the scene and how to avoid leaving DNA at the scene. The reason Moore pleaded guilty to being an accessory to attempted first-degree murder, rather than an accessory to first-degree murder, was because Moore was linked to a plot to kill Garraus on the day before Nelson actually carried out the murder.

A judge sentenced Moore to the maximum nine years in prison on Monday.

Two days before she was set to face sentencing for her guilty plea Moore was arrested Saturday on suspicion of drunken driving.

Eloise Campanella, sheriff's office spokeswoman says Moore, a Windsor resident and a former Weld County Sheriff's deputy, was arrested for driving under the influence early Saturday morning when she was driving southbound on Remington toward Laurel Street.

Nelson was convicted March 3 of first-degree murder and sentenced to life in prison without parole. She had a long affair with Garraus' husband that produced a child. He had ended the affair shortly before his wife was killed.
