Want to look younger? Try eating more broccoli. New research shows that sulforaphane, a chemical found in the crunchy green veggie, helps prevent free radicals in the body from damaging tissues and organs. This damage is believed to be one of the major causes of aging.
The chemical in question appears to stop age-related decline, according to the UCLA study. Harmful free radicals are formed in the body - exposure to cigarette smoke, pollution and pesticides speeds up their formation. But antioxidants can actually stop these free radicals in their tracks. Sulforaphane appears to activate the antioxidants in the body’s cells that stop cell damage.
