A search is underway for a woman who went missing this week on the Eastside, 66-year-old Gayle Patrick. She has a physical disability and walks with a limp.

Pima County Sheriff's Deputies are calling her disappearance suspicious, after finding some of her belongings, and no trace of her.

Patrick was last seen Tuesday evening, at her church, near Irvington & Old Spanish Trail.

This evening, members of her church walked the Eastside neighborhood of Bear Canyon and Catalina Highway.

They're handing out dozens of flyers, asking people to be on the lookout for Gayle Patrick.

Her friend, Alta Hubbard, says she's trying to stay positive.

"Just have to have hope, that's all we can do. We pray for her, we're keeping a vigil for her -- just have to have hope that's all we can do right now."

Patrick's car is also missing, it's a 2001 Chrysler Concorde, silver in color, according to authorities. It has an Arizona Handicap License Plate DYD 69.

Anyone with information is asked call 911 or 88-CRIME.

Tucson Police Searching for Three Missing Women
Posted: March 17, 2008 08:50 PM CDT

Three missing women cases in Tucson are generating a lot of interest. 66 year old Gayle Patrick is the latest. She was last seen Tuesday night. 62 year old Kay Read hasn't been seen since Valentine's Day and 62 year old Nora Charles disappeared in mid-November.

The Pima County Sheriffs Department and Tucson police say the three cases are not connected. However, they also say the two agencies are in close communication regarding this and all cases.

Sgt. James Ogden with the Sheriff's Department says they're leaving no stone unturned. "We're not ruling anything out. We're looking at the big picture to see if there's any connect-up with this thing. We're working closely with TPD and have a fantastic relationship with them."

Sgt Fabien Pacheco echo's Ogden's response. "We want to reassure the community that we are working aggressively on all these cases.

By Delane Cleveland, Fox 11 News

The car of a missing Tucson woman has been found with a body inside. 66-year old Gayle Patrick was reported missing on Friday March 14, but newspapers had been stacking up at her eastside home since Tuesday March 11. Friends had been searching for her all weekend.

Patrick’s car was found at an apartment complex on Alvernon near Grant on the evening of Monday, March 17. A woman who lives at the complex called police to say she recognized the car make and license plate after seeing it on the news. Pima County Sheriff’s deputies say there is a body inside the car, but they have not been able to identify it.

Patrick is a retired school teacher who moved to Tucson about 2 years ago. She’s been an active member of the Temple of the Presence Church, described as a church which accepts all religions. Members of the church spent the weekend searching the area for her. The church is located near Harrison and Irvington roads on the east side. Patrick was described by deputies as disabled and she walks with a limp.

Monday night deputies were taking pictures of the body in the back seat and waiting until investigators obtain a search warrant before opening the car.

Kay Read has crutches, and Gayle had a limp, and Elnora has been on meds. I wonder if all three had any connection to a clinic, pharmacy, or medical supplie distributor.

My condolences.

Slain woman was good friend, sister
Brother, church members recall Gayle Patrick as giving, gifted teacher

Gayle Patrick was a great sister and friend and someone to count on for a prayer, friends and family said.
"She was just a very gracious lady," said her brother, Brian Patrick.
About 150 people attended a memorial service Thursday for Patrick, who police said was shot more than a week ago.

"It's such a senseless tragedy," Brian Patrick said. "They gave her a memorial unparalleled here and all the love those people have is very impressive."
The ceremony was at the Unity Church of Tucson, 3617 N. Camino Blanco. "Gayle was the best older sister anyone could have," Brian Patrick said after the service.
"She gave a lot to me and helped me succeed."
Before coming to Tucson two years ago, Gayle Patrick worked in Los Angeles as a teacher for the mentally ill. Through teaching in the inner city, friend Alta Hubbard said, Patrick could teach her students things others weren't able to.
"She always was such a positive and peaceful person," she said, which made Patrick's death the more surprising.
In Tucson, Patrick was active at her church, The Temple of the Presence, 11902 E. Irvington Road, and enjoyed preparing the altar for services and doing menial jobs such as cleaning.
"She's always been one of those people you can rely on for prayer," said Hubbard, 66, her friend of about 30 years. "She, as a woman, stood for truth, justice and honor."
Gayle Patrick maintained a positive outlook despite painful scoliosis that made walking and moving difficult.
"But her spirit was never disabled," Hubbard said. "Our hope for her is she is in heaven with the angels."
Patrick's body was found Wednesday in her car, a silver Chrysler Concorde, at an apartment complex in the 2600 block of North Alvernon Way. She had been missing since March 11.
An autopsy found she had been shot.
Kathryn Diana Dominica, 52, an acquaintance of Patrick, was booked Thursday into the Pima County Jail and, charged with first-degree murder.
"It's additional closure for a lot of folks," said Larry Selmer, a board member at The Temple of the Presence.
Reflecting on Patrick's life, he asked "How can a person have so many best friends?"

Kathryn Diana Dominica

Police are charging 57-year-old Kathryn Diana Dominica with First Degree Murder in connection with the death of Gayle Patrick.

The relationship between the two was that of business. Patrick purchased some health related products from Dominica in the past.

Police say that Dominica made statements to them that were inconsistent with what she had told other people.

Authorities found Patrick shot to death in her vehicle near the 2600 block of Alvernon Way just after 7:30 p.m Tuesday.

Patrick who was 66 years old was last seen alive at her church on Old Spanish Trail and Irvington.

She was a 13-year member of the Temple Of The Presence, helping with flowers and the welcoming committee. Church members held a round-the-clock prayer vigil until she was found.

Friend: Murder suspect asked for ride
CARLI BROSSEAU
Tucson Citizen

Kathryn D. Dominica, the woman accused of killing 66-year-old Gayle Patrick, asked a friend to pick her up at a midtown fast-food restaurant the day Patrick went missing, the friend told Pima County Sheriff's deputies.

Then Dominica told the friend not to talk about that ride to anyone, to pretend it never happened. But the friend told detectives.

The probable cause statement issued for Dominica's arrest shows that Dominica explained the secrecy to her friend by saying that Patrick's body was wrapped in Dominica's sheets.

It was. According to the statement, Patrick's body was found in her Chrysler Concorde wrapped in a blanket, sheets, towels and a garbage bag identical to others found in Dominica's house.

But the friend wondered how Dominica knew that, authorities said Thursday. Those details weren't released in earlier media reports.

Other details unsettled the friend. Dominica's initial request was to be picked up at East Cloud Road and North Sabino Canyon Road, the statement said. That's about a block from Patrick's home, 3260 N. Sabino Vista Circle.

Then she called back and changed the location and was instead picked up at a fast-food restaurant at the corner of North Alvernon Way and East Grant Road, the document said. That is three blocks from the apartment complex where Patrick's body was found in her car, 2660 N. Alvernon Way.

By the time the friend called police, Dominica had already been interviewed. Detectives spoke with her March 14, three days after Patrick was last seen, because her phone number was in Patrick's cell phone, according to court documents.

At that time, she told detectives she had spent an hour with Patrick on March 11, making her the last person that police believe saw the missing woman, court records show.

Patrick gave Dominica her credit card number and security code to purchase a foot bath, the documents state. Dominica sold health products, the records state.

Patrick's body was found Monday. Detectives interviewed Dominica's neighbors Wednesday, according to the statement. Neighbors said Dominica had been asking questions about DNA, the document states. She was taken in for questioning, and her house was searched.

In addition to the matching linens, deputies found "evidence of financial motive" at Dominica's house, 4226 N. Rillito Creek Place, near Campbell Avenue and River Road, the probable cause statement said. The search warrant return was not available Friday.

Dominica, 52, was being held in Pima County Jail on Friday on $500,000 bail, online records show.

Woman charged with Gayle Patrick's murder
08:15 PM MST on Sunday, March 23, 2008
By Delane Cleveland, Fox 11 News

An arrest has been made in the murder of Gayle Patrick, who was found shot to death in her car on St. Patrick’s Day. On Thursday, March 20, 52-year old Kathryn Dominica was taken into custody and charged with Patrick’s death.

Pima County Sheriff’s detective Michael O’Connor says, “We received information from her (Dominica’s) friends and business associates that she had made interesting comments about the condition that the body was found in.” Comments he says only someone with knowledge of the murder would know. O’Connor says Dominica sold Patrick a healthcare product the day before she was reported missing.

Now O’Connor wants to warn seniors about the dangers of trusting others. “They need to be very careful about who they deal with and bring into their home and ask for services,” he says. Fox 11 News spoke with seniors who say they know scammers are out to get them over the phone. “(They’re) just asking about have you got your affairs in order, things like that,” says Ann Allums. 77-year old John Janzow adds, “Invariably they ask me for my social security number and I refuse to give it to them.”

Nearly 20-percent of Pima County’s population is above the age of 60, and experts say they’re a constant target. “They grew up at a time of trust where they trusted people that they met,” says Stewart Grabel of the Pima Council on Aging. “With the growth of the boomer generation and their aging, we’re gonna see more of this in the near-future, unfortunately.”

Investigators wouldn’t say whether Patrick fell victim to a scam, but those who work closely with the elderly say people need to be careful. Sheriff’s Deputies warn that before you do business with anyone, do your homework. One possible source of help is the Better Business Bureau.
