ROWN CITY, Ohio -- The FBI has joined the search for a missing Ohio couple.

Willard Frye, 76, and Patty Frye, 72, went missing Thursday. They were last seen driving away from a gas station in East Lynn, W.Va., and heading toward Wayne, W.Va.

They both have Alzheimer's disease and Patty is a diabetic. Family members said they do not have their medication.

They were driving a dark blue Ford Focus with Ohio plate DEZ-5765.

Willard walks hunched over, is bald with some white hair and has blue eyes. He frequently wears ball caps. Patty is 5 feet 4 inches with straight brown hair and brown eyes.

Family members said Patty would be driving if they are in the car.The couple has been living in Crown City, near Huntington, W.Va., but has strong ties to northeast Ohio.

Willard and Patty lived in the Cleveland area for about 50 years. Until about three years ago they lived in Grafton. Willard is retired from the Ford plant.

They attended Christian Unity Church in Grafton for over 30 years. They still have family and friends in the area and they considered it home.

The family feels they may have gone back to the area or are trying to do so.To find out more about the search for the missing couple, go to www.missingfryes.blogspot.com. (http://www.missingfryes.blogspot.com/)

WAYNE COUNTY, W.Va, (WSAZ) - West Virginia and Ohio State Police are still searching for Patty and Willard "Bill" Frye. The husband and wife have been missing since Thursday. Patty has dementia and Willard has Alzheimer's.

The couple's grandchildren say Patty also has diabetes and she does not have her medication with her.

They are from Crown City, Ohio but were last seen in East Lynn, West Virginia. Patty was driving. The family believes she may have been headed to Grafton, Ohio, where they lived for several years. However the family says they don't have any clues as to where they could be headed. And say their grandma gets confused easily and does not know her way around.
They are in a dark blue Ford Focus with Ohio registration DEZ-5765.

If you've seen Patty or Willard, call the Wayne detachment of the West Virginia State Police or your local police department.

UPDATE:
WAYNE COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) - Family and friends are really starting to panic. Patty has dementia and is a diabetic. Willard is suffering from third stages of Alzheimer’s. Without medication, very little money and open roads, there's a concern to bring them home safely. It’s been a long five days for Kathy Bernard and her brother Kenny. Their parents, Patty and Willard Frye went missing Thursday afternoon.

“Because she's a diabetic with no meds, she'll get worse,” Kathy Bernard said.

State police have searched high and low.

“We called out aviation this morning, flew around four houses, didn't find anything,” West Virginia State Police Trooper Lee Pennington said.

The Fryes drove from their home in Crown City to East Lynn. That's where they were last seen and family members believe they might have driven to their old home in Cleveland.

The couple's caretaker drove with them to East Lynn after an argument, and then Patty and Willard left.

“Caregiver got her to pull over to a store. Then they fought. Mom got the keys and sped away,” Bernard said.

Bernard says she knows her parents drove toward Wayne, but still no phone calls or leads to their whereabouts.

“We’re just trusting God will get them back and there's a lot people praying. We just hope they find that little blue car,” Bernard said.

Media outlets in northern Ohio and North Carolina are reporting the Frye’s disappearance. There are friends and family in both those areas who Patty and Willard might have gone to visit.

Anybody with information on their whereabouts should call 911. Again, the Fryes are in a dark blue Ford Focus.

Plain Dealer Reporter
A frantic son is asking for the public's help in finding an older Ohio couple - each suffering from severe memory disorders.

They were last seen Thursday.

Law-enforcement authorities said 76-year-old Willard Frye, who has Alzheimer's disease, and his wife, Patty, 72, a diabetic diagnosed with dementia, were last seen on Thursday driving a dark-blue Ford Focus with Ohio license plate DEZ 5765, on Ohio 37 toward Wayne County, W.Va.

Relatives fear that the couple is without medication, lost and driving around confused.

The Fryes live in Crown City, which is about 100 miles south of Columbus near the West Vir ginia border, but they used to live in Cleveland and have rela- tives in Medina.

He said his mother apparently became confused and kept driving through West Virginia, arriving at a small country store in East Lynn, where she forced the caretaker from the car and took off.

"The lady (caretaker) said she (his mother) was getting worse and worse and kept driving out through West Virginia, and said she was going home," Kenneth Frye said.

The son has power of attorney over has parents and has been checking their bank account for any activity. He's found nothing so far.

He moved to Crown City to live with his parents three years ago when his mother's dementia worsened. They could never be left alone, he said.

A frantic son is asking for the public's help to find an older Ohio couple - each suffering from severe memory disorders - after they disappeared March on Thursday. Willard Frye, 76, who has Alzheimer's disease, and his wife, Patty, 72, a diabetic diagnosed with dementia, were last seen Thursday driving a dark-blue Ford Focus (license plate: DEZ 5765) on State Route 37 near the Ohio-West Virginia border toward Wayne County, West Va.

Relatives fear that the couple is without medication, lost and driving around in a state of confusion.

A bulletin has been posted with the National Crime Information Center, a computerized index of criminal justice information that tracks fugitives, stolen property and missing persons, etc.

As of Sunday morning, neither state troopers in Ohio nor West Virginia had information on the couple's whereabouts.

West Virginia senior state trooper J.D. Lucas said authorities do not suspect foul play in the disappearance of the Fryes, who took off on a clear, sunny day.

They reside in Crown City (http://maps.google.com/maps?q=Crown+City,+OH,+United+States+of+America&sa=X&oi=map&ct=title), Ohio, a town of about 300 people, which is about 100 miles south of Columbus and 14 miles northeast of Huntington, West Virginia. "We are just worried about their wellbeing," Lucas said. "Patty was driving and that's the last we've seen or heard from them. We have a pretty wide search for them."

The couple reportedly stopped in a small country store in East Lynn, Wayne County, Lucas said.

Relatives of the missing couple are asking people in the Cleveland area to be on the lookout, because the Fryes once lived here and have relatives in Medina.

Their son, Kenneth Frye, said his mother and father were accompanied by a daytime caretaker Thursday when his mother drove her husband and the caretaker to get something to eat.

The son moved to Crown City to live with his parents three years ago when his mother's dementia worsened. They could never be left alone, he said.

"She gets very confused in any situation that's not normal," he said. "They may have gotten on one of the main roads, so who knows where they can end up."

My parents, Willard and Patty Frye were with a daytime caretaker on Thursday when my mom drove dad and the caretaker to get something to eat.

Mom became confused, forced the caretaker out of the car in East Lynn, W.V. and then said she was going 'home'. She kept driving through W. Virginia.

My father (76) has alzheimer's and my mother (72) has dementia AND diabetes. They were never supposed to be alone and I am very worried for their safety.

They are driving a dark blue Ford Focus with Ohio plates DEZ 5765.

They live in Crown City, OH which is about 100 miles south of Columbus, OH.

Son of missing couple has faith
Couple was last seen in dark blue Ford Focus
by Zack Pettit
Daily Mail staff

More than two weeks after his parents were last seen, Kenny Frye, their eldest son, is still clinging to hope as daily search-and-rescue efforts continue to come up empty.

Willard and Patty Frye, 76 and 72 respectively, have lived for the past three years in Crown City, Ohio, a small town on the Ohio River about 18 miles from Huntington.

Kenny, 50, moved in with them as their health steadily declined, he said. Willard is in advanced stages of Alzheimer's and Patty has dementia and diabetes.

The couple needed constant supervision. Kenny felt he needed to live with them and also hired a caretaker.

The day the Fryes went missing, Patty was driving Willard and the caretaker to get something to eat, but as her behavior became increasingly more erratic and paranoid, she forced out the caretaker and drove away, he said.

"It was Thursday, March 13, and they were in East Lynn heading toward Wayne," Kenny said.

Media in four states have been alerted to their disappearance, because they were longtime residents of Ohio, and have friends and family in both North Carolina and Florida, he said.

In West Virginia, State Police have used helicopters at least twice to scour the vicinity in which they were last seen, said Senior Trooper L. Pennington of the Wayne detachment.

"We flew in the State Police helicopter this morning (Monday) in the East Lynn area, south on (W.Va.) 52 near the Mingo County line and in southern Wayne County," Pennington said. "The last they were seen was heading back to (W.Va.) 37 toward Wayne."

"We still don't have any good tips," Pennington said. "We are monitoring everything."

The search parties are mostly comprised of family members, because there is a large concentration of relatives in the Crown City area, he said.

"They are walking, have four wheelers and have boats, but they are really concentrating toward the road," Kenny said. "This weekend the grandkids were looking in the area where they were last seen. It was the opposite direction they were heading, but at least that would eliminate the area."

Kenny, who has his mother's power of attorney, can monitor his mother's bank account to see if there have been any transactions. So far there has not been any activity in her account.

He doesn't have the same power for his father, because his father's health and mental capacity had deteriorated too much by the time it was indicated, and Kenny didn't want to trouble him with perplexing matters, he said.

Neither of his parents has credit cards, he said.

Kenny and his younger brother have been forced to alternate shifts at the Crown City residence in case their parents do try to contact the home, he said.

He has been unable to go to work since they left because someone has to man the phones at all times, he said. His brother comes over in the evenings to provide him some relief.

Kenny is not giving up hope, but the circumstances are beginning to wear on him.

"They've been gone for so long, I'm going through every emotion I have," he said. "People are calling and saying they have been spotted. They even called last and said they saw them over (Wayne area). Someone just started a rumor over there, but here we were, just thinking they found them."

"It's been a tough couple of weeks," he added. "We just can't understand why they haven't been spotted anywhere. We've still got hope. We don't know any different, so we're going to keep hope."

The elderly couple has not had access to their medication since they left, he said.

Willard's doctor has said he didn't have to take his if he didn't wish to because of the advanced stage of his disease, Kenny said.

Patty can go without her medication for up to a month, he said.

Kenny is confident his parents, even with their memory ailments, do remember where their home is in Crown City.

"They would know where to come back to," he said. "We're not losing hope."

The Fryes were in a dark blue Ford Focus with Ohio license plate DEZ 5765. Anyone with information is encouraged to call State Police at 304-272-5131.

I happen to know this family. They did have a family member with them and she was forced out of the car when they stopped to go to the restroom. They also have other family that tries to take care of them, but she managed to get away when they stopped. She is very confused and is not sure where home is. She could be heading to the northern part of Ohio or even Florida.

Do not always assume that just because elderly people with health problems are out on their own that there is no one to take care of them. Sometimes they are able to get away without anyone knowing it. Most of the time they only have one caretaker and unfortunately they cannot be everywhere at once and they do get tired. We are hoping and praying that they will be found safe.

As of this date there is not any news. The family thought that the FBI was going to be getting involved, but they are only going to be there as a secondary source of help so to speak.

I just spoke to their grandaughter and she told me that there was a woman who said that she saw a man that looks a lot like her grandfather at a Goodwill Store in New Philadelphia OH. This could possibly make sense since they could have possibly been heading to Cleveland. He was by himself, but hopefully it was him. The family would like for me to thank those of you who have been praying and ask you to continue to do so. Hopefully they will be found soon.

Hey everyone. Sorry for not updating lately. I thought I should stay away from some of the rude comments. Thats not fair to the ones that truly care. The family is doing the best we can. We have each other and prayers from all of you. This has been such a hard thing to deal with but, we all know they are in heaven rejoicing! Some of the family really held on to the fact they were still alive and they are having a harder time. The rest of us has been really grieving this for over 55 days. It has not been easy for no one. There will be a funeral service here in WVa when they are released from the medical examiners office but they will be buried in northern Ohio with their son Chris. I will post on here also when that will be plus it will be in the paper. Any question you can contact me by Trish06@zoominternet.net. Thank you to everyone. I also wanted to say hello to Kim. We miss you!

I still find no Obituaries for the couple, but it seems safe to say that this can be moved to the 'located' thread.
Here is the last news report I could find> Sad video at the site.

May 7, 2008
West Virginia State Police says they believe they found the missing elderly couple that had been missing two months. The Fryes vehicle was found Tuesday morning in the woods near Dunlow in Wayne County. Police began a search Wednesday morning and shortly after say they believe they found Willard and Patty Frye.

Patty's sister, Linda Paisley, says all she can do now is wait to learn the cause of death for the couple. Paisley says her family had almost given up hope, and had been expecting the worst for some time. They say all they can do now is remember the caring and giving people Willard and Patty were.

West Virginia State Police are saying the bodies were found near the Fryes vehicle, and were about a hundred yard apart from each other. They say there was no obvious signs of foul play.

Nut, I have looked for an obit in the past and can't find one, strange. I agree it's safe to move it but we have to get permission before doing so because we do not have a definite PR stating there was no foul play.

I am bothered by them being found a 100 yards apart.

Condolences and prayers for their family. :1222423:

to those of you who continue to check this site for information... My sister and her husband have been positively identified. the preliminary autopsy has shown probably the elements, however for forensic purposes they are doing testing on the bones to determine time of death and to rule out a myriad of other possible causes. the forensic team to my understanding does not suspect anything its just that they cover all the bases.that all takes time. sometimes a lot of time. We are ok with that because we know our loved ones went to be with the Lord some time back. no burial can be planned until they are released. We will keep you informed.

I hope they do post the findings because the distance apart from each other has me concerned. Of course, one could've had a heart attack and the other tried to go back to vehicle to get help and also had one. The report did say the bodies were found near the vehicle.
