Woman still missing
The Examiner
Independence police are still asking for the public's help in locating a northwest Independence woman who has been missing for a week.
Pamela Reynolds, 59, is on medication for physical problems and is legally blind, police spokesman Tom Gentry said.
Gentry said the woman's neighbor notified police that she was missing. Her daughter told police she last saw her mother at the Conoco station at U.S. 24 and Northern Boulevard in Sugar Creek at 4 p.m. Monday, when her mother began walking back to her home.
Reynolds is described as 5-foot-5 and 300 pounds, with shoulder-length, strawberry blonde hair and a light complexion.
Anyone who has seen her is asked to call Independence detectives at 816-325-7330.

INDEPENDENCE, Mo. - The mysterious disappearance of a blind woman in Independence has detectives organizing a neighborhood canvass scheduled for Thursday morning.
Neighbors went through 58-year-old Pam Reynolds' house Monday night when she didn't come home from a trip to get prescription drugs with her daughter.
Inside her home, they found her cell phone, her pills, and both her canes for the visually impared.
"It's just unusual," neighbor Peggy Ault said. "If she knows she's going to be out walking very long, she has her cane."
Neighbor Heather Lindsey said that concerns her and her being blind also does. "That's two catch-22s that are kind of hard to have."
"Basically, I'm going to try to look for her purse," Ault said as she led a group of neighbors on a search of the area near Reynolds' home Wednesday night.
"Pamela has some physical ailments," says Tom Gentry with the Independence Police Department. "She needs her medications. We're very concerned about that. She's considered legally blind."
"She can see a little bit, but not extensively," Ault said "And especially at night, she sees nothing."
Reynolds is strawberry blonde and stands only 5 feet 5 inches tall, but is very large at about 325 pounds.
Police printed flyers and plan a neighborhood canvass Thursday.
Neighbors believe she had a dispute with her daughter.
That daughter told police Reynolds got out of the daughter's car at the intersection of Route 24 and Northern in Independence Monday evening, never to be seen again.
"We just want to make sure that Pam is alright," says neighbor Peggy Bradshaw. "Not hurt in anyway. And that she's safe and ok."
The police canvass will cover the area between the intersection where the daughter told police Reynolds left from her car back to Reynolds' home six blocks away.
Independence detectives are asking anyone with information about Reynolds' whereabouts to call the TIPS Hotline at (816) 474-TIPS.

Vigil held for missing woman
INDEPENDENCE, Mo. – As friends and family of a missing Independence woman gathered at a candlelight vigil Friday, a scary similarity to another missing persons case that ended in tragedy was pointed out.
Pamela Reynolds was last seen March 10 after taking a ride with her daughter to pick up her medication.
She is legally blind, has strawberry blonde hair, stands 5 feet 5 inches tall and weighs about 325 pounds.
She has the same color hair and similar complexion to Summer Shipp, who went missing in December of 2004 and whose remains turned up in Little Blue River last October.
Both women were last seen near 24 Highway. The sites of their disappearances are about 12 blocks apart.
Reynolds' disappearance leaves her daughter in anguish. "Tonight I won't be going to the vigil because I'm too upset and extremely distraught," Dana Liddle said.
Liddle said another reason she wasn't attending Friday's vigil for her mother was tension with the neighbor who organized the vigil and a community search.
Liddle is also fighting off suspicions she says are aimed at her. She was the last person her mother was seen with. Liddle said her mother walked off during a manic episode while they stopped for gas.
"She does have some mental problems, but she's a great lady, and we're all staying positive."
Liddle hopes her mom may have went to get some help. "Maybe she went to a psychiatric center."
That is the hope of friends and family. They also wanted to convey to Reynolds that she is not in any trouble and everyone just wants her to come home.
"I'm praying and keeping the faith for my mother's safe return," Liddle said.

They're missing Pam
By Rhiannon Ross | rhiannon.ross@examiner.net
Family, friends, neighbors and public officials gathered early Friday evening for a candlelight vigil for missing woman Pamela Reynolds, who lives in the Maywood district of Independence.
And the message they are sending is the same: "Please come home."
"We just want Pam to know she can contact someone - the family, the police - to just let us know she's OK," said Donna Prentiss, her sister-in-law. "She doesn't have to tell us where she is. She's not in trouble, and no charges will be filed."
Pam's daughter Della Liddle, making an effort to hold back her tears, echoed this sentiment.
"Everybody is praying for her and we just need her home," she said.
And then a more personal plea.
"I love her. Please get in touch with someone as soon as possible," she said, her voice breaking.
Liddle also thanked the community for its support and prayers.
Mayor Don Reimal and City Council Member Marcie Gragg, 1st District, also attended the vigil.
"We're very concerned," Reimal said. "(Reynolds) is in need of medical attention and she's sight-impaired. People in this neighborhood are very concerned. They care very much for people in the neighborhood. They take time to know their neighbors and work together. We're all here to show support for the family and raise general awareness for the public. If someone has seen her, they can let us know. Hopefully, she's warm and safe, and we can have her back home."
Gragg, who represents the Maywood District, said Reynolds worked on both Reimal's and her election campaigns.
"She's a really wonderful lady," Gragg said. "She's legally blind, but she said she could sit and stuff envelopes for (campaign) mailings and she talked to her neighbors."
Both Reimal and Gragg said they were startled when they saw Reynolds' photo in the news, alerting the public that she was missing.
"When you hear that someone goes missing, it's not supposed to be someone you know. It hits you hard," Gragg said.
"It's supposed to happen somewhere else, not here," Reimal added.
Neighbor Kathy Atherton walked over to the vigil to show her support. And even though she only knows Reynolds by sight, she said it was important for the community to band together.
"We may be an older community but we're a community who cares," Atherton said. "We may not all know each other but we help each other in times of need."
Atherton admitted that having Reynolds whereabouts unaccounted for has made her more watchful.
"But I'm frightened everywhere," she said. "It's really not the neighborhood, it's a sign of the times. We have to be vigilant everywhere."

What the heck was this daughter thinking??? She tells her blind mother to get out of the car and knows that she doesn't have her canes with her???? :71541: She ought to be charged with being a sub-human.

Woman’s body found in northern Independence
By KEVIN HOFFMANN
The Kansas City Star
Police are investigating the death of a woman whose body was found this afternoon in northwestern Independence.
About 3:05 p.m., police were called to the 600 block of Northern Boulevard. Crime-scene technicians and several officers gathered near the southwest corner of a large metal building where the body was discovered between the building and a fence. Immediately south of the fence is a group of multifamily homes.
Police said that a woman with a connection to the building reported finding the body. It was unclear whether the building, which has two large garage doors, is still operating as a business. No name could be seen on it, and the only cars in its parking lot appeared to be from the police department.
An Independence police spokesman said that it was too early to make any identification of the body, but he described it as a middle-aged woman. He said he could not comment on the condition of the body or a possible cause of death.
The area is about a half-block from where Pamela Reynolds, a missing woman, last was spotted.
Reynolds, 58, has not been seen since March 11, when she was walking in the area of U.S. 24 and Northern. She is considered legally blind.

Missing woman's family says they have closure
INDEPENDENCE, Mo. – Family and friends of Pamela Reynolds said they were accepting that she has died after a woman's body was found in her neighborhood.
No positive identification had been made, but relatives said it is all but certain that it was the 58-year-old blind woman who was found near where she went missing March 11.
Police said there were no obvious signs of foul play where the body was found.
Family members said after a difficult month, it is a relief to know something.
"It's hard, but at least we're not waking up every morning wondering what we can do to help find her," Donna Prentiss, Reynolds' sister-in-law said.
When Reynolds went missing, friends and family searched the neighborhood time after time, but were never able to find her.
"We were so close," friend Peggy Ault said. "And she was out there alone."
Reynolds was known to have health problems. "If it was natural causes, which I think it was," Ault said, "I hope it was peaceful…because she'd been through quite a bit."
There will be a vigil Friday night at 6:30 at 24 Highway and Northern, near where Reynolds disappeared. There is also a funeral fund set up at American Sterling Bank in Independence.

Family confirms identity of body found in Independence
By KEVIN HOFFMANN
The Kansas City Star
The body found this week in Independence is that of Pamela Reynolds, who had been missing for more than a month, a relative confirmed this morning.
Reynolds, 58, was last seen March 11 walking near U.S. 24 and Northern Boulevard. Her body was found Wednesday afternoon about a half block from that intersection outside a large metal building. The Jackson County medical examiner’s office was to conduct an autopsy, but the office and police have not released a cause of death.
Police have told family members that they ruled out foul play, said Donna Prentiss, whose husband was Reynolds’ stepbrother.
Reynolds was legally blind, on medication and suffered physical conditions that made it difficult for her to walk.
Family and friends were planning to hold a vigil for Reynolds at 6:30 tonight at U.S. 24 and Northern Boulevard
