They are treating it as a crime scene because they are unsure, but it could have been some kind of accident too.

OLYMPIA — The remains of two men have been found in a burned tent in a wooded area of Olympia.

Police Cmdr. Tor Bjornstad says the burned remains were found today by campers in the west part of town. Investigators believe a tent or tarpaulin sleeping structure caught fire and collapsed onto the pair.

OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) - Three transients have been arrested in the deaths of two homeless men whose burned bodies were found in a wooded area in Olympia.

Bryan D. Eke and Tommy L. Crow, both 33, and 23-year-old Christopher J. Durga are being held at the Thurston County Jail on suspicion of second-degree murder and second-degree arson.

Olympia Police Cmdr. Tor Bjornstad says the suspects lived in a tent close to the victims and had an "ongoing conflict" with them. He says at least 10 to 15 transients live in the area.

Bjornstad says two of the suspects acknowledge assaulting the victims about 2 a.m. on Friday and say as the suspects were leaving, the victims' tent appeared to have caught fire. He says the men did not intervene.

ONE VICTIM HAS BEEN IDENTIFIED
THREE HELD IN BEATING, STRANGLING OF TWO TRANSIENTS IN OLYMPIA
Three transients have been accused of beating and choked two other homeless men and burning their makeshift campsite. Bail was set Monday at $500,000 each for 33-year-old Tommy Lee Crow, 22-year-old Christopher J. Durga and 33-year-old Bryan Dana Eke. They remain in custody for investigation of second-degree murder and second-degree arson. Meanwhile, Thurston County Coroner Gary Warnock identified one of the dead men as 46-year-old Norman L. Peterson. The other has not been positively identified. Warnock says it's unclear whether they died from being beaten and choked or from the fire. Autopsies have been conducted and further tests are pending. Friends of the pair found their badly burned bodies Friday in a wooded area of west Olympia.(Updated 6:50am 4/1)
