The Snohomish County sheriff's office says the woman found dead near I-5 at Marysville is apparently the victim of a hit-run accident.

Spokeswoman Rebecca Hover (HOH'-ver) says detectives want to hear from anyone who may have been a witness.

A couple driving by about 7 a.m. Wednesday spotted the woman's body in the ditch of a frontage road.

The woman was wearing jeans and a dark coat. The impact apparently knocked her out of her shoes.

Hi Roamer
The only type of person or people that would flee from a 'hit & run ' accident on the road;are people who do not want to get caught.
Past crimminal record,outstanding warrants,DUI's etc.
The car will show impact damages and the possibility of blood;but the real horror in this scenario is:
The woman might have been alive and could have been saved. Then of course there is the family, friends, and co-workers that may be looking for the person.
What it comes down to is: simple depraved indifference to human life.

Hi Nut44x4
My only guess as to why the ID of the victum has not been released is that the police are waiting for someone to call in 'a missing person's report';which is standard procedure;or a call from a 'tipster with information.
I enjoy watching excellant programs about the police and FBI;real cases none of the 'fluff & stupidity'.
One must take into consideration, people have a 'right' just to walk away from family, work, residence and lifestyle.
When both the police & FBI,investigate a missing person, they begin their investigation with that 'possibility'. Interestingly enough I watched an FBI case about such a missing person. The FBI did locate the person;but the person had no crimminal record and stated he wanted to be left alone.
The FBI would respect the man's request, and would tell the family,of their findings.THe man does not wish any contact Period.
Then there are those 'flukes' when the FBI is searching for a person and stumbles across the ID of an unknown person;resulting in closeing a cold case file.

Detectives Find Vehicle Involved In Marysville Fatal Hit-And-Run

POSTED: 2:10 pm PDT April 5, 2008
UPDATED: 9:15 am PDT April 6, 2008

MARYSVILLE, Wash. -- The Jeep Grand Cherokee involved in Wednesday morning’s fatal hit-and-run was found by Snohomish County sheriff's investigators.

A 41-year-old north Snohomish County man is believed to be the driver, but he has not been arrested, said investigators. The case remains under investigation.

Police said the vehicle’s registered owner is not believed to be the driver of the Jeep; however the Jeep was not stolen.

Detectives are not releasing any information about how they found the Jeep or the driver. The Jeep was taken into evidence.

Detectives are still asking anyone with information about the incident to call the tip line at 425-388-3845.

A 58-year-old Marysville woman, Nicole Francis Cheek, was walking in the 12400 of 34th Avenue Wednesday morning. Police said Cheek died after a vehicle hit her while she was walking. Her body was found shortly after 6:30 a.m. in an area of grass between 34th Avenue NE and I-5.

IMO they will solve this one quickly. They'e found the car, but the owner wasn't the driver, nor was the car stolen, so they know who the driver was. All they have to do is find him/her.

Snohomish County sheriff's detectives say they have found the driver and vehicle in a fatal hit-and-run crash near Marysville.

Sheriff's spokeswoman Rebecca Hover says the 41-year-old north Snohomish County man has not been arrested. She has not given the circumstances, nor did she say where or how investigators found the Jeep Grand Cherokee they believe was involved.

The case involves the death of 58-year-old Nicole Francis Cheek of Marysville early Wednesday morning. A southbound driver on Interstate 5 noticed her body in a grassy ditch between a frontage road and the freeway.

Public records indicate that Cheek may have lived a couple of miles from the crash scene.

Police ID driver in Marysville hit-and-run death

By Scott Pesznecker, Herald Writer
MARYSVILLE -- Snohomish County sheriff's detectives on Saturday found the driver who they believe struck and killed a Marysville woman.

The 41-year-old north Snohomish County man has not been arrested, sheriff's spokeswoman Rebecca Hover said. Investigators also found the Jeep Grand Cherokee believed to be involved in the fatal hit-and-run.

Nicole Francis Cheek, 58, was killed Wednesday morning in the 12400 block of 34th Avenue NE on the Tulalip Indian Reservation. A driver heading south on I-5 found her body about 6:40 a.m. in a grassy strip between the road and the freeway.

Cheek died after suffering multiple injuries to her torso and legs, the Snohomish County Medical Examiner's Office announced Friday. Her death is being classified as an accident, the medical examiner said.

Public records indicate that Cheek may have lived just a couple miles from where she was killed.

The Jeep's suspected driver is not the vehicle's registered owner, but the Jeep was not stolen, Hover said. Detectives have impounded the Jeep to be used as evidence.

Investigators have not released further details about the Jeep or how it was found. The sheriff's office also withheld details about the suspected driver, because he has not been arrested, Hover said.

The investigation could last a couple of months. After the investigation, the case will be referred to the Snohomish County Prosecutor's Office to decide whether charges should be filed.

Although the Jeep has been found, detectives are still asking anyone with information about the incident to call the sheriff's office tip line at 425-388-3845.

I am curious as to why the driver isn't being arrested. This person hit and killed someone and they are saying it was an "accident". Fine, then it should have been reported and help called for the victim. I'm sorry, you just don't hit someone and leave them there unless of course you didn't know what you hit but common sense would tell you if your not sure, stop and check. I just don't get it.
