BUFFALO, N.Y. - A man who spent 22 years in prison for two rapes committed by someone else is suing the state for $41 million, his lawyer said Friday.
The money would cover future living and medical expenses for Anthony Capozzi, who is schizophrenic, as well as account for lost wages and time, attorney Thomas D'Agostino said.
Capozzi, 51, was freed a year ago after DNA evidence proved the attacks were part of a decades-long crime spree by a rapist and killer named Altemio Sanchez, known before his capture last year as the "Bike Path Rapist."
