No identification yet but they say they appear to be one woman and two men. Also that they were probably not killed where they were found.

Identifications On 3 Bodies Could Take Awhile

POSTED: 11:07 am CDT April 7, 2008
KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Kansas City police said it could take awhile to identify three bodies found dumped during the weekend.

Autopsies revealed the bodies to be those of one woman and two men. But police said getting more details had been difficult because the bodies were so badly decomposed.

Sgt. Tony Sanders said the bodies could have been lying where they were dumped for as long as a month. He said detectives believed the victims were killed elsewhere and taken to the wooded dumping site near the Blue River.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Police on Monday identified three people found dead in an illegal dump during the weekend.

They were Mark A. Smith, 34; Jonnie M. Williams, 43; and Steven F. Turner, 48, according to a news release from Capt. Rich Lockhart, spokesman for the Kansas City, Mo., Police Department.

Williams and Turner were reported missing on March 14. They were last seen by relatives in February. A fire destroyed Turner's house at 5628 College Ave. on Feb. 13. Investigators blamed arson for the blaze.

Smith had not been reported as missing to police.

The bodies were badly decomposed and could have been lying where they were dumped for as long as a month, said Sgt. Tony Sanders, a Kansas City, Mo., police spokesman.

Detectives believed the victims were killed elsewhere and taken to the wooded dumping site near the Blue River, Sanders said.

A city services worker found the first body Saturday morning while helping with an annual river cleanup. Police later recovered the other two bodies.

Investigators urged anyone with any information about the deaths to call the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS.
