It's been a long time, but IIRC, he was in a crib in THEIR bedroom.
My daughter was born in Colo Spgs, 3 days after Christopher went missing and those hospital nurses were watching all of the babies like hawks. Even gave me dirty looks, even though they knew one of the babies was mine.

Most of the evidence in his case was accidentally destroyed by the Colorado Springs Police Department some time after his disappearance, and Abeyta's family has accused the police of negligence and incompetence in their investigation.
How terrible!
I'd love to see this boy come home, and pray that whoever has him is taking good care of him. :1222423:

Have they worked up a picture of how he'd look now? Geez, missing since 86 - he'd be 22 now. I can't imagine how it'd feel to be told at that age you were kidnapped and your whole life had been built on a lie.

COLORADO SPRINGS - Balloons floated high and songs were sung Saturday at Quail Lake Park, to celebrate the 24th birthday of Christopher Abeyta. He made national headlines when he was seven months old, after he disappeared overnight from a crib in his parents' home near the park, in July of 1986. He has not been found, and the case remains unsolved.
Still, the Abeyta family believes Christopher is alive and will reunite with them someday. His mother says the family suspects someone kidnapped him for unknown reasons, and she hopes that eventually, he will become curious about how he grew up.
"Think of the circumstances of how he was raised, what he was told--and we'll certainly give him a DNA test any time he wants us to," says Bernice Abeyta. "It's not about me feeling really bad and hurt. It's about finding Christopher. There's a cold case that has been opened. For the first time, I'm really positive."
Sister Denise Alves says it's the first time the family has celebrated Christopher's birthday. About 50 relatives and friends gathered at the park. Alves says the family still copes with a perception that it was responsible for Christopher's disappearance.
"Yes, we didn't hear anything--and we have to live with that," Alves admits. "But the only person that theory hurt, was Christopher, because someone has gotten away with him."
Early in the investigation, the family blamed police detectives for being too inexperienced to properly handle the case. Bernice Abeyta failed a lie detector test, which she says was because of medication she took at the time.
Sgt. Chuck Potter, one of the few members of the police force still on duty from the disappearance, says he doesn't believe Christopher will be found. "I remember tracing footsteps where we thought the child may have been taken or led. Walking around that lake, through the neighborhoods. I did a lot of that myself, and it does bring back a lot of memories."
If you have any information about the case, call police at 444-7000. The Abeyta family also has created a website (http://findchristopher.com/index.html) about the case.

Details of Disappearance
In the early morning hours of July 15, 1986, Abeyta's parents couldn't locate their son. They had put him to bed at midnight and found his crib empty in the morning. Their garage door opener turned up missing and a basement window was open. Abeyta has never been heard from again. At 6:30 a.m., his parents alerted the police. Arriving officers couldn't find any signs of forced entry, but the front door stayed unlocked the night of his disappearance. Members of Abeyta's family initially seemed like potential suspects in his case. His parents were separated at the time of his disappearance, but later reconciled. His mother failed two polygraph exams. She blamed it on a withdrawal from tranquilizers. Authorities haven't cleared either of his parents of involvement in the case or charged them in connection with it. Three weeks after he vanished, they drained Quail Lake, three blocks from the Abeyta home, to search for his body. They recovered nothing.
Abeyta's family member refuse to consider him deceased. They believe he and his guardians don't know he's an abducted child. Abeyta's loved ones operate a site featuring information about his case. Texas and New Mexico top the list of his possible locations. According to the website, the family had been receiving hang-up phone calls for about six months before Abeyta disappeared. The calls stopped when he vanished, then resumed again several months later. His sister believes the abductor was a family acquaintance who has not been publicly identified.
Some time after his disappearance, the Colorado Springs Police Department destroyed most of the Abeyta case's evidence; his family accused them of negligence and incompetence in their investigation. His disappearance remains unsolved.
