Darryl Walters.

WEST UNION, Ohio -- Like a page out of a television script, Federal Bureau of Investigation agents have been called in to assist local law enforcement in investigating the murder claims of Darryl Walters.
"We asked them to assist in the case. With the claims he has made about the women in Scioto County, we thought it was necessary to bring the FBI into it, to make sure every base was covered," said Adams County Detective Shawn Cooley. "According to (Walters), he knew the girls and dated them, He claims they were prostitutes, but he has yet to give us a reason fro killing them."
Cooley met with an FBI agent Thursday.
"They are trying to determine if there are more victims," said Cooley.
Scioto County Sheriff, Portsmouth Police Department and ACSO are sharing information on the cases, Cooley said.
Walters is being held in the Adams County jail, charged with murder in the strangulation death of Melinda Powell in 2004. Walters also allegedly confessed to murdering Aleshia Frazee in 2001 and Tamara Smith in Scioto County in 2004.
Frazee and Powell were strangled, Cooley said.
According to Scioto County officials, Smith's death certificate does not list a cause of death due to the deteriorated condition of the body when it was found.
Drugs and associations with prostitution activities were also suggested as reasons the victims were associated with Walters, Scioto officials said.
According to court records, Powell was arrested for drug possession in Columbus, Ohio in January, 2004, but the charges were later dismissed. Her body was found on Coffee Hollow Road, near Peebles, Ohio, on July 17, 2004.
"The victims were known to work the streets," said SCSO Capt. David Hall.
A murder indictment in the death of Powell was handed down from an Adams County grand jury Thursday and is expected to be signed by the judge within the next few days. Scioto County officials also anticipate charging Walters in the Frazee and Smith murders, officials said.
An analysis by the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation matched the DNA on two of the victims to Walters. A discussion with police over DNA results led Walters to confess to the murders after he arrived in Ohio, police said.
According to Scioto County court records, in 1994 Walters pleaded no contest to negligent homicide for shooting a 13-year-old boy in the head with a 9 mm pistol in August, 1993. He was sentenced to 180 days in jail in October, 1994, and released in February,1995.
Walters whereabouts between jail sentences is the focus of more investigation as police try to make sure there are no other victims to be found.
"He was apparently in Cherry Fork, Ohio, in the 2004-2006 time period; he had family up there," said Adams County Assistant Prosecutor Kenny Dick. "The information is still trickling in."
Walters may have also served in the military, by his own admission, a fact investigators are researching, Dick said.
A link to Walters possibly working in the steel industry, a job which may have had him traveling, was also being investigated, police said.
Walters is currently being held in Adams County Jail on $500,000 bond.

POS that he seems to be, I hope he gives LE the names of his victims (if he knew them), or at least where he dumped their bodies, to give their families some kind of closure. Two sisters murdered. How sad.

PORTSMOUTH, Ohio (WSAZ)--There's new information this morning about the skeletal remains recently found in the Shawnee State Forest.
The Scioto County Sheriff's Department says a state anthropologist has determined the remains are of a Caucasian or Hispanic woman; likely in her late teens or early 20s.
The skeletal remains were found by folks hunting mushrooms.
Investigators have sent DNA samples from Amber Howard, a woman who went missing from the Portsmouth area back in August to a state lab for comparison.
We're told those tests could take several weeks.
PORTSMOUTH, Ohio (WSAZ) -- The Scioto County Sheriff says skeletal remains have been found in a wooded area in the county.
The sheriff says the remains, which appear to be human, were found late Monday morning in the Shawnee State Forest by several people hunting mushrooms.
Right now, investigators are attempting to identify the remains along with a cause of death.
Investigators from several local and state police agencies spent several hours processing the scene.
The remains have been turned over to Ohio Bureau of Investigation.
Anyone with information should call the sheriff’s offices at 740-355-8245.

PORTSMOUTH, Ohio (WSAZ) -- A family in Portsmouth now knows their loved one who's been missing will not be coming home.
Detectives have confirmed that skeletal remains found in Shawnee State forest back in April are those of Amber Howard. It took several weeks to make a DNA match.
Howard disappeared last August. She was 7 months pregnant when she was first reported missing. Detectives say they are now treating this case as a homicide.

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!
The Columbus Dispatch (Ohio)
December 17, 2009 Thursday
Man linked to deaths of woman and fetus
A man has been charged with the murder of a pregnant Portsmouth woman whose skeletal remains were found in the Shawnee State Forest last year.
Mark Crisp, 48, of West Portsmouth, has been indicted in the deaths of Amber Howard, 21, who vanished on Aug. 20, 2007, and her unborn child.
Her disappearance prompted a major police campaign in which missing-person posters were hung from overpasses and posted in store windows in Scioto County.
On April 7, 2008 -- Howard's birthday -- mushroom hunters found a skull and other bones in the state forest near Friendship in southwestern Scioto County.
DNA testing identified the remains as Howard's, and county and state investigators received a tip in February identifying Crisp as a suspect, according to a police news release.
Investigators then searched the home in which Crisp lived at the time of Howard's disappearance and seized and searched his car while he was in jail on unrelated charges.
Additional DNA evidence recovered during the searches led authorities to take the case against Crisp to a grand jury, Sheriff Marty Donini and Portsmouth Police Chief Charles Horner said.
Crisp was indicted Tuesday on two counts of murder and felonious assault involving Howard and her fetus, two counts of tampering with evidence and single counts of abduction and abuse of a corpse.
Crisp is serving a nearly three-year sentence in state prison for failure to comply with a police officer's order and failure to appear in court. He is in the Ross Correctional Institution near Chillicothe.
